With a few of you going for the 9 card quest, I will be attempting a similar spin off. My first set of topps baseball I collected was the 1970 set. I was a catcher in little league that year, so naturally would like 9 of all the catchers from that year. I would only want the "catchers" depicted with the big mitt in their card, like Fosse's (& Bench's) . I still have my original catchers mitt, my father got me back then and it looks just like the pro's used. An Unofficial WL has been added to my site, link below. Any condition would be very much appreciated. let me know what you may have & Thanks in advance. I had maybe a couple hundred, certainly less than 500, before 2017. On Saturday I went to Randy=E2=99s cardshop in Q-town PA for his labor day sale and walked out with my first =E2=99big=E2=99 purchase offootball =E2=93 about 370 70=E2=99s topps for $40! (Side note, my wife was a bit surprised when I said =E2football cards=E2=99. Her reaction was =E2 wait, I thought you collected old BASEBALL cards..=E2=99. My response that I could no longer get 370 cards for $40 by collecting baseball only, was not convincing =8A ). Nevertheless, with no new Game of Thrones last night I added up my football collection after putting all the cards away. My total is just over 2900 unique vintage football cards. This means OBC generosity is responsible for over 2000 cardsin about 8 months!! Wowza =E2=93 you guys are amazing. I=E2=99d like to get that to over 4000 by end of the year =E2=93 as Ibelieve it will take my total collection to over 30K cards =E2=93 another year or two to get to the Bray level of 35K. I=E2=99m getting close to completing my first major football set with a few of the 70=E2=99s years. Here are a few shortlists (years not shown are longer =E2=93 and thus probably easier to hit) that I will also postto the Seventies September page: Thanks for reading and looking if you have any 70=E2=99s football dupes.Happy to trade or purchase DS of some of the stars (Philly Show in a fewweeks Matt Yudt 1970 topps fb: 009, 070, 075, 137, 139, 144, 147, 156, 159, 160, 162, 164, 171, 172, 175, 189, 190, 195, 218, 219, 220, 226, 228, 233, 235, 240, 250, 262 1971 topps fb: 001, 002, 025, 029, 030, 033, 041, 050, 052, 054, 055, 077, 106, 113, 114, 125, 129, 133, 134, 135, 137, 138, 141, 144, 148, 149, 150, 151, 153, 155, 156, 157, 158, 159, 160, 164, 165, 171, 175, 177, 178, 179, 180, 184, 185, 186, 187, 188, 191, 193, 198, 199, 200, 203, 204, 205, 206, 208, 209, 210, 211, 212, 213, 215, 216, 217, 218, 222, 224, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229, 230, 231, 234, 236, 242, 243, 244, 245, 246, 248, 250, 257, 258, 260 1978 topps fb: 003, 004, 024, 025, 052, 055, 060, 065, 100, 110, 141, 145, 155, 165, 166, 182, 200, 213, 214, 233, 252, 282, 287, 290, 295, 314, 315, 320, 331, 333, 334, 357, 385, 400, 404, 415, 429, 434, 445, 450, 460, 470, 488, 494, 499, 500, 503, 504, 509, 510, 516, 521 1979 topps fb: 001, 003, 010, 011, 016, 018, 019, 024, 026, 029, 038, 043, 048, 065, 077, 085, 086, 090, 097, 101, 104, 108, 112, 114, 115, 118, 119, 120, 123, 128, 151, 155, 159, 161, 165, 170, 171, 176, 182, 190, 193, 194, 196, 198, 210, 215, 217, 218, 234, 239, 247, 251, 255, 258, 259, 260, 261, 273, 275, 281, 291, 300, 304, 305, 308, 310, 315, 319, 320, 335, 360, 368, 377, 379, 380, 383, 387, 390, 394, 397, 400, 403, 410, 429, 440, 445, 446, 450, 458, 469, 475, 480, 483, 485, 489, 490, 496, 497, 500, 510, 513, 514, 515, 518, 520 ================= Date: Tue, 5 Sep 2017 15:56:17 -0400 To: OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com, OBC-Ramblings@yahoogroups.com Subject: new set started - T 206s From: smartalecx@aol.com i spent part of this past national strolling around and looking at pre-war sets that i thought i might be interested in starting. i have always liked the T-206s and they seemed plentiful (although impossible to complete, especially with the entire set of back variations). so, i have pulled the trigger, and have picked up several dozen here and there. a few VG, more P, but mainly F/G. i have no dupes to trade and very few other pre-war aside from 33 goudeys available, but plenty of others including early 50s stuff available. will consider DS as well. here is the have list, and any help would be appreciated. I expect at one point my collection will go between two or three of my nephews. I would hate for one nephew to get all of my cards and the other not getting any. I always offload my modern card extras to my nephews. Before that I gave them to my brothers and sisters. I don't expect people to go out of their way to help me complete a second set, but if they do its merely a gift and its a nice gesture. I am grateful about the gesture more than just the card. I would always much rather see acard go to someone else's first set rather than to a second set. But in the case of 1975s or something that most people have completed, If there are enough to go around, then collectively I see nothing wrong with helping complete that additional set. In some cases, someone may have to get rid of one of the sets. In the case of Ed Schott's impossible nine card 1965 quest, that is really hard. Its a hell of a quest and I would give my left arm if I had dupes to help him. It's a good place to offload some extras. But, its something thatEd really likes and he just about pulled it off so I applaud his tenacity. The way I look at it, it takes a bit of OCD to collect cards. I think multiple sets help feed that OCD need. I have to think that once you finish a set, if you enjoyed collecting that year, go for a second set. Don't expect everyone to have the same philosophy as you, accept that, and everyone will be fine. To each his own. Almost agitation. Then I said to myself, "no Andy, it's just folks opinions on folks collecting focuses." I say, collect what you want. How you want. There's no obligation to send anything to anyone... unless you actually set up a trade. So what's wrong with someone going for a second set. I'm not there yet in my collection, I've still got way too many other sets to complete to worry about a second set. But some guys are much further along than I am. And that's fine with me. I just try to hit other guys first sets before I'll send out a hit to a second set. 9Xquests? Sounds fun and would look pretty cool in a set of binders. But again, not for me. I've got no problem with someone else collecting that way though. I'm under no obligation to help, but might if I have like 5 dupes of one card and I might send them a couple of them. Personally, I am hoarding a single card. I have a total of 7 of them so far. You can find out which one on my wantlist if you're so inclined. And I have to say, every time I get a new one I am totally excited about it. It feels great to see a new one. So I understand why some of us do it. Lets all just remember that collecting is not right or wrong. Do it however the heck you want and however makes you happy. OBC means a lot to me. Of course, our buddy Mike is in Nicaragua for most of the year, and we don't really have a way to safely ship cards to him, so that means these cards reside with me until heand I meet again. It also means we come up with clever ways to keep him enjoying this amazing hobby. Over the last few days we've chatted a bit about how to tackle (pun intended) his new football collection, so I started sorting through them to give him an idea of what he's working with. He settled on attempting to work on the 1972 and 1973 Topps sets, but also to see if he could build several years of team sets for the Dallas Cowboys, starting of course with the decade of the 1970s. Tonight I added his brand new lists to the Seventies September spreadsheet, which is linked below. Now, of course you can send any cards to him at anytime by using the address on the website (his sister's home). She REALLY enjoys getting all the fun packages we send her way. But there's another alternative: if you send them to me, I have agreed to be a loyal and honest steward and do my best to keep his lists up-to-date. All his cards are (and will be) kept in boxes clearly marked with "M.R-W" so there's no mixing themup with my own stuff. Thank you all for your generosity and especially for your participation in Seventies September. The month is already half over; add your lists today, as I STILL have stuff to send out! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mhl2WVmIoNjkP8p69k81fp8dnjrl26FSQSrd1ni4VFU/edit?uspsharing ================= Date: Fri, 15 Sep 2017 08:57:18 -0500 To: "OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com" Subject: Re: [OBC-Wantlist] Who collects T118s? That gave me seven of the ten-card baseball subset so I figured I'd try to complete it. In addition to those, there are 50 in the complete set and 50 in the '2nd series',the W513 set. The non-baseball cards include other types of athletes as well as some actors/actresses. These are relatively inexpensive when sold at auction but sellers ask significantly more via BINs. Aside from the baseball ones, I got most of mine for under $5 but asking prices are often double or triple that via a BIN. If anyone has any W512s or W513s, please let me know. Would love to make some trades and I've got all kinds of pre-war stuff to offer. I only have about 1/3 of the set so need most. Is there anybody out there crazy enough to trade away a Babe Ruth? > This is not going to be a trade to put together anything near broadway. Its a trade to get closer to completing a 1933 Goudey set. close, but not quite across the line. If you=E2=99re interested in working a trade let me know. Anyone with hockey dupes or hockey wantlists, this one's for you! Click thelink to get started: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AEVu9eRjF_zWRFTdhfrbeIIxP-YIhZ114hRzTmR4Y90/edit?uspsharing Some guidelines to make it more awesome: 1) The idea is to share wantlists from your HOCKEY SETS and to coordinate the dupes we all send, to minimize crossover. 2) Please delete any cards you're sending from that person's list. This spreadsheet is "live" so that means everyone else will have the current list to work with, and it minimizes the dupes people receive. This is certainly not a requirement, but it is one of the main benefits of this coordinated effort. 3) Please indicate ON YOUR SET TITLE if this is a second or third set, likeso: '1973-74 TOPPS second set.' 4) Please add the date for your list in the 'LAST UPDATED' column. And if you change someone's list, put today's date on it. It's inessential, but if you're paying attention to that, it's a flag that you might see cards soon! 5) Seventies September is still going and has continued to stay very active. Several hundred wantlists from many OBCers, all in one place; that's pretty useful, right? Check it out if you haven't already: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1mhl2WVmIoNjkP8p69k81fp8dnjrl26FSQSrd1ni4VFU/edit?uspsharing If this stuff doesn't make sense, email me and maybe I can walk you throughit. One last thing: Please enjoy to the fullest! OBC is amazing. Aaron Shirley
