My friend Carl has applied for membership in OBC. It was mentioned that he doesn't have an online wantlist set up yet. No, he doesn't; but Ihave the following lists I made with him after he made a few purchases from some OBC guys. So I'm copying those lists below, so you can get a quick look. Not lobbying for his membership, so please don't see this wrong. I just wanted you to see we're kinda working together until he gets his 'collecting feet' under him. And yes, so far he really has only been working on four sets... I'm hoping to expand that soon. He started a few months back by JUST working on 1958, his birth year. I'm intending to give him a starter set of another year as a 'welcome to OBC' gift, if he gets in I'll let him tell you his back story, but he is actually a long-time collector. I found this book on a sales rack in a bookstore when I was 11 or 12, and read it cover-to-cover religiously. For those of you that haven't read it, see if you can dig up a copy, 'cause this book is what OBC isall about. It is written by 2 guys who grew up in the 50's & 60's that collected cards, and reminisces on some of the distinctive & less than stellarballplayers of that time. It's very well written, and my eternal thanks goout to Chuck Paris, who actually tracked down another copy for me, since my original is in Tipton VG at this point! So why am I telling you all this? There are cards of every player they speak about (except Eddie Gaedel) featured in this book, & ever since I bought the book I dreamed of a day when I might get 'em all. Well, it took about 20 years, but I've recently managed to finally knock out the whole book! Last card was a hi# '52 Topps Crosetti I found on ebay on 2/2/04! > THE GLORY OF THEIR TIMES > Red Barber called this book, "The Single Best Baseball Book of All Time."Told to & compiled by Lawrence S. Ritter (any relation to ex-OBCer Larry Ritter?) the book contains "the story of the early days of baseball told by the men who played it." I picked it up in a Harvard used book store severalyears ago, and it is a fantastic read. The challenges & experiences these players had compared to the game they saw played through the 50's & 60's isperspective enough on how much the game has evolved, much less compared tothe millionaires of today. At any rate, after a discussion with John Collins, I have decided to collect at least one card of each featured player in this book - here's who's left (& what years they played): > Stan Coveleski (1916-28) > Joe Wood (1908-22) > "> Click here for recent issues > Thanks for checking out my wantlist! > James > PS: I am placing my T206 list in an inactive status, but here's my most recent > 1909-1911 T206 that I ALREADY HAVE: Abbatichio (brown), Abbott, Ames (hands above head, hands @ chest), Anderson, Arellanes, Baker, Ball (Cle), Ball(NY), Barbeau, Bastian, Bay, Beaumont, Beck, Becker, Beckley, Bell (pitching), Bender (w/trees), Berger, Birmingham, Blackburne, Bliss, Bradley (port& w/ bat), Bransfield, Bridwell (no cap), Burns, Camnitz, Campbell, Carr, Casey, Chance (red port), Chase (throw dark cap, throw white cap, trophy, pink, blue bkg), Chesbro, Cicotte, Coles, E.Collins (Phi), Conroy (w/ bat), Covaleski, Cravath, Crawford (batting), Cree, Criger, Criss, Delehanty (L'ville), Demmitt, Devore, Donlin (fielding & w/ bat), Doolan (bat), Doyle, Duffy, Dunn (Balt) Dygert, Elberfeld (NY & fielding), Engle, Evers (bat), Ferris, Ford, Frill, Fritz, Gibson, Hemphill, Herzog (Bos), Hinchman (Cle & Tol), Hoblitzell, Hofman, Howard (Savannah), Huggins (port & hands), Hulswitt, Hummel, Isbell, Jennings (both hands & port), Johnson (port), Jones (Det), Jordan (Brk port), Keeler (port & bat), Kelley, Kiernan, Killian (throw & port), Kleinow (bat & catch), Knight (bat & port), LaFitte, Lajoie (throw), Lake (ball in hand, NY AL), LaPorte, Lattimore, Lavender, Leach (bending), Leifeld (bat), Lentz, Lobert, Magee (port), Manning (bat, pitch), Marquard (port, hands at thighs, pitching), McGinnity, McGraw (finger & port w/ cap), McQuillan (bat), Milan, Milligan, Mullin (throw), Murphy (horizontal),Myers (fielding), Needham, O'Brien, Oldring (bat), Orth, Overall (portrait), Owen, Pattee, Pelty (horiz), Perdue, Persons, Pfeister (seated), Phelps,Pickering, Poland, Powell, Powers, Quillen, Quinn, Reagan, Reulbach (glove& no glove), Revelle, Rockenfeld, Schirm, Schlei (batting), Schmidt (port & throw), Schreck, Seymour (throw), Shannon, Shaughnessy, Shipke, Smith (Sh'port), F.Smith (F on frt), H. I found this book on a sales rack in a bookstore when I was11 or 12, and read it cover-to-cover religiously. For those of you that haven't read it, see if you can dig up a copy, 'cause this book is what OBC is all about. It is written by 2 guys who grew up in the 50's & 60's that collected cards, and reminisces on some of the distinctive & less than stellar ballplayers of that time. It's very well written, and my eternal thanks go out to Chuck Paris, who actually tracked down another copy for me, since my original is in Tipton VG at this point! So why am I telling you all this? There are cards of every player they speak about (except Eddie Gaedel) featured in this book, & ever since I bought the book I dreamed of a day whenI might get 'em all. Well, it took about 20 years, but I've recently managed to finally knock out the whole book! Last card was a hi# '52 Topps Crosetti I found on ebay on 2/2/04! >> THE GLORY OF THEIR TIMES >> Red Barber called this book, "The Single Best Baseball Book of All Time." Told to & compiled by Lawrence S. Ritter (any relation to ex-OBCer Larry Ritter?) the book contains "the story of the early days of baseball told bythe men who played it." I picked it up in a Harvard used book store several years ago, and it is a fantastic read. The challenges & experiences theseplayers had compared to the game they saw played through the 50's & 60's is perspective enough on how much the game has evolved, much less compared to the millionaires of today. At any rate, after a discussion with John Collins, I have decided to collect at least one card of each featured player inthis book - here's who's left (& what years they played): >> Stan Coveleski (1916-28) >> Joe Wood (1908-22) >> Click here for recent issues >> Thanks for checking out my wantlist! >> James >> PS: I am placing my T206 list in an inactive status, but here's my most recent >> 1909-1911 T206 that I ALREADY HAVE: Abbatichio (brown), Abbott, Ames (hands above head, hands @ chest), Anderson, Arellanes, Baker, Ball (Cle), Ball (NY), Barbeau, Bastian, Bay, Beaumont, Beck, Becker, Beckley, Bell (pitching), Bender (w/trees), Berger, Birmingham, Blackburne, Bliss, Bradley (port & w/ bat), Bransfield, Bridwell (no cap), Burns, Camnitz, Campbell, Carr,Casey, Chance (red port), Chase (throw dark cap, throw white cap, trophy, pink, blue bkg), Chesbro, Cicotte, Coles, E.Collins (Phi), Conroy (w/ bat),Covaleski, Cravath, Crawford (batting), Cree, Criger, Criss, Delehanty (L'ville), Demmitt, Devore, Donlin (fielding & w/ bat), Doolan (bat), Doyle, Duffy, Dunn (Balt) Dygert, Elberfeld (NY & fielding), Engle, Evers (bat), Ferris, Ford, Frill, Fritz, Gibson, Hemphill, Herzog (Bos), Hinchman (Cle & Tol), Hoblitzell, Hofman, Howard (Savannah), Huggins (port & hands), Hulswitt, Hummel, Isbell, Jennings (both hands & port), Johnson (port), Jones (Det), Jordan (Brk port), Keeler (port & bat), Kelley, Kiernan, Killian (throw& port), Kleinow (bat & catch), Knight (bat & port), LaFitte, Lajoie (throw), Lake (ball in hand, NY AL), LaPorte, Lattimore, Lavender, Leach (bending), Leifeld (bat), Lentz, Lobert, Magee (port), Manning (bat, pitch), Marquard (port, hands at thighs, pitching), McGinnity, McGraw (finger & port w/ cap), McQuillan (bat), Milan, Milligan, Mullin (throw), Murphy (horizontal), Myers (fielding), Needham, O'Brien, Oldring (bat), Orth, Overall (portrait), Owen, Pattee, Pelty (horiz), Perdue, Persons, Pfeister (seated), Phelps, Pickering, Poland, Powell, Powers, Quillen, Quinn, Reagan, Reulbach (glove & no glove), Revelle, Rockenfeld, Schirm, Schlei (batting), Schmidt (port& throw), Schreck, Seymour (throw), Shannon, Shaughnessy, Shipke, Smith (Sh'port), F.Smith (F on frt), H. Marshall West On Nov 12, 2017, at 12:30 PM, james_moleta@hotmail.com [OBC-Wantlist] Hi guys, I'm not sure why I'm having this problem, but I cannot see my updated want list. I've cleared the cookies and tried two different browsers (Chrome andIE) with no luck. The oddest part is, when I log in to update the list, the new update is there...but when I submit and attempt to view or refresh it, I only see the old one. I'll email Wayne directly pretty soon unless he or someone else replies with or posts the (likely obvious to everyone but me) solution to my issue. My Ultimate Quest: The Great American Baseball Card Flipping Trading & Bubble Gum Book. I found this book on a sales rack in a bookstore when I was 11or 12, and read it cover-to-cover religiously. There are cards of every player they speak about (except Eddie Gaedel) featured in this book, & ever since I bought the book I dreamed of a day when I might get 'em all. Well, it took about 20 years, but I've recently managed to finally knock out the whole book! Last card was a hi# '52 Topps CrosettiI found on ebay on 2/2/04! THE GLORY OF THEIR TIMES Red Barber called this book, "The Single Best Baseball Book of All Time." Told to & compiled by Lawrence S. Ritter (any relation to ex-OBCer Larry Ritter?) the book contains "the story of the early days of baseball told by the men who played it." I picked it up in a Harvard used book store several years ago, and it is a fantastic read. The challenges & experiences these players had compared to the game they saw played through the 50's & 60's is perspective enough on how much the game has evolved, much less compared to the millionaires of today. At any rate, after a discussion with John Collins, I have decided to collect at least one card of each featured player in this book - here's who's left (& what years they played): Stan Coveleski (1916-28) Joe Wood (1908-22) http://www.oldbaseball.com/wantlists/j1moleuv.htm"> Click here for recent issues Thanks for checking out my wantlist! Gurus =E2=9CWauction=E2=9D ends next Sunday November 26th at 6PM EST, with =E2=9CWauctionWinners=E2=9D The =E2=9CWauction=E2=9D catalog will eventually be published on the OBC Facebook page Lot 1--1941 PlayBall--card #42 and eight-cornered Wallace Moses, Jr. Card has a number of creases in addition to the clipped corners. Moses had six consecutive seasons of batting .300 or better. Lot 2--1950 Royal Dessert #22 Eddie Robinson--actually a half decent card for having been cut from the back of a jello pudding box. Some minor creasing and one clipped corner add some character to the minor ink work on boththe front and back of this gem. Eddie is the last living person who was on a Cleveland Indians World Series winning team. Lot 3--1951 Topps Blue Back #31 Leland Lou Brissie--Brissie pitched with a bulky brace on his left leg after his tibia had been shattered by shrapnel during WW II. This card reflects a bit of shrapnel damage as well with a chunk of the bottom border having separated from the rest of the card. (Take a look at his Exhibit card for a view of the brace). Lot 4--1957 Sohio Indians Al Smith--5x7 image of ex-Negro leaguer and two-time all star. Sohio produced sets for both the Cincinnati Reds and the Indians--with booklets and three card perforated panels as gas station give aways. Frank Robinson and Roger Maris "cards" are the keys to both sets. This card presents nicely with some light toning and some chicken scratch on the Lot 5--1961 Topps All star nose bleeder--#573 Ken Boyer--I think this card went from being carted around in a kid's back pocket to being nailed to hisgarage wall. Major creasing the length of the card and Ken appears to only have one eye from a puncture wound in the cardboard. Lot 6--1962 Salada football--#67 Tom Tracy of the Pittsburgh Steelers a 5'9" 205 lb. halfback. The Salada football set is a little weird including coins of only 11 of the 14 NFL teams and only 3 of the 8 AFL teams. Five of the NFL teams were short-printed including this coin of Tracy. The yellow border has a few chips and the back reflects some minor rust common with this Lot 7--1965 Old London Coin--Bill Mazeroski--Pirate HOFer know for his gameseven winning 9th inning HR against the Yankees in the 1960 World Series. This is a surprisingly difficult 40 coin set. A relatively decent condition coin with the exception of some scratching on the biographical information on the back. Lot 8--1969 Tresler Comets football of Charles King--admit it, how many of you have one of these in your type card set? These second year Cincinnati Bengals cards were available at your local Tresler Comet dealerships--another gas station give away. Believe it or not, this card is ex or better condition. Lot 9--1973 Sugar Daddy Kareem Abdul-Jabber card #25 in the 25 card set. An oddball type card of this Power Memorial High School and UCLA product early in his career with the Milwaukee Bucks. One fair sized crease through the middle of this T206 sized card is the only blemish (well maybe a couple of bumped corners). Lot 10--for you non-sport November enthusiasts--a 1910 T118 Famous Explorercard of Lieut. E.H. Shackleton who in 1907 headed to Antarctic trying to make it to the South Pole. This beauty reflects its 107 year old age with afew rough corners and a few creases, but not a train wreck by any means. Lot 11: 1953 Red Man Tobacco Murry Dickson #22N. Very nice condition although there is no tab.1953 was the second of three consecutive seasons that Murry led the National League in losses. (consigned by David Luftig) Lot 12: 1909 E79 "27 Scrappers." Rawlins delivering right hand swing." Slight paper loss and staining. A great looking card from a fantastic boxing set. Although this is a star-studded set, with all the great boxers of the day, this card remains a mystery to me. I do not know who "Rawlins" was. Maybe you can solve this mystery. (consigned by David Luftig) Lot 13: 1901 Ogden's Tabs "Series A" boxer. No. 87. Charlie Mitchell. Creasing in all the right places. The Ogden's Tabs were a multi-subject UK tobacco series. Mitchell was a 5'8" 175lb English heavyweight bruiser who is best know for fighting John L. Sullivan to a 2+ hour draw in the rain. Becauseboxing was illegal, he was immediately arrested after the fight, held for several days, and fined. A nice looking card. I am pushing it one day because of our server issues from this past week. So there is still time to place bids--so far we have 99 total bids from 29 bidders. I will circulate an email with the winners tomorrow-- peter mead -----Original Message----- From: hoot_owl1 To: obc-wantlist Sent: Fri, Nov 24, 2017 7:17 am Subject: WAuction #13 closes this Sunday Still plenty of time to place a bid--some lots have very few bids.....here are all 13 lots: Gurus =E2=9CWauction=E2=9D #13 (A combination =E2=9CWaiver-Wire=E2=9D and =E2=9CAuction=E2=9D) rules: send me a private email message telling me what lot number/numbers you would like to have. No limit of how many lots you request, but you can only win one lot. I=E2=99ll keep track of who is interested in each lot, and pull one namefrom my beat up and well loved Buffalo Bills hat.
