Steve, though he is on the AC, recused himselffrom the vote. He DID however give his consent for us to do this auction, after a bit of encouraging (grin). This will be much like previous OBC auctions: - Donors email lot information to a coordinator (me): uthminsta AT hotmail DOT - Donors are encouraged to include a common sense minimum starting bid. - Coordinator puts lot info into a spreadsheet and sends out to the group at large via Yahoo server(s). - The first spreadsheet will not be sent until there are at least 20 lots. - Late lot entries are okay, but please donate early and often. - Bidders email their bids to the coordinator: uthminsta AT hotmail DOT com - Bid generously and often. - Coordinator updates spreadsheet and re-sends, approximately daily. - There will be a hard ending date, which is yet to be determined. - After bidding ends, winners send funds to a central source (OBC Treasurer?) - Once funds are received, donors send cards to winners. - One check is sent to Rittenbergs and everyone is happy. Am I forgetting anything? Donors, start your engines! Please email lot info to me at uthminsta AT hotmail DOT com Thanks in advance for a great auction! With over 60 items submitted already, we are nearlyready to begin bidding. What you see below is just to whet your appetite and get you all thinking about what you're gonna bid on! Bidding opens MONDAY AUGUST 15TH at 8:00am Eastern. Lots may be added through WEDNESDAY AUGUST 17TH. The auction will end SATURDAY AUGUST 27TH at 10:00pm Eastern. I have had significant input on this, and for the helpful suggestions, I say thank you. A few additional bits: - Regular updates will be sent out through the main servers, but I will also have a "live" edition viewable at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-tUjiQasoEwXNyjMdS3PIRsnA-DG_qfNeW8xptPT9aM/edit?uspsharing - Lots are not numbered. This is on purpose, so additional lots can be placed in "chronological" order without disrupting the system. - One exception: If you place a bid for "LOT 99" this is simply a donation to the cause. Any and everyone will win this lot. Bid accordingly. - The donor is listed in the final column. If you'd like a picture of an item, please contact them directly, as I do not have pictures of the items. Ask early, as not everyone checks their email a hundred times a day like I do. - There was one submitted item from the UV era. My thanks to the donor. I will offer that item on the UV server, but I would like to steer away from dividing things up more, so please keep any further items 1980 and older (orappropriate books pertaining to the vintage era, etc) - It is my hope you all can believe I will handle this with honesty and integrity. So that there are no questions about a conflict of interest, I will make it known now that I myself *DO* intend to bid on items, but will not bid within the last 24 hours. And I will give at least two update posts after the last time I bid so everyone should have a chance to get in a bid after me. I hope that is sufficient. Thanks so much for the extensive interest! A lot of folks are asking thesame few questions, so here's a FAQ to hopefully help you. If you still have questions after reading, please don't hesitate to email me at uthminsta AT hotmail DOT com for anything at all. It's my pleasure to help ya. WHAT'S THIS FOR? Steve Rittenberg's wife Gina has been in the hospital for over 2 months now, with some SERIOUS health issues. They have had many thousands of dollars in expenses associated with this hospital stay. I asked Steve if he would be alright if we did an auction to share a little of our concern, camaraderie and brotherhood... and give a bit of monetary help whilewe're at it. CAN I DONATE A LOT? Yes. But submissions end after tonight. At the earliestpossible time Thursday morning, I will add all bids in my email inbox, then add all new lot submissions in my email inbox, then add lot numbers. WHEN DOES IT END? The auction is currently scheduled to end at 10pm Easternon Saturday August 27th. There has been a request to extend it through Labor Day weekend though. Seems OK to me. The decision will be made and published with several days' notice. HOW DO I BID? Email me your bids at uthminsta AT hotmail DOT com - all it needs to be is a bid amount and brief lot description. It isn't necessary toput each item on a new line, but it sure helps, what with the loads of bidsheets I'm getting. Bid on one lot or a hundred lots, no problem. And if you want to send multiple emails, that's fine too. All bids are processed inthe order they are received. HOW DO BID AMOUNTS WORK? Basically like eBay. Bid as high as you want. OnlyI will know that max amount. The amount you pay - the amount shown on the spreadsheet and in server emails - will only be a dollar higher than the other bidders' max. In the event there are two bids of the same amount, the earlier bid takes precedence. Full dollar amounts only, please. DO I SEND YOU MY CARDS? No. At the end of the auction, after bidders have paid for their lots, donors send their cards directly to the bidders. WILL YOU PLEASE ADD LOT NUMBERS? Yes. As soon as we close off new submissions. So starting Thursday, August 18th, through the end of the auction, all lots will have a lot number for your convenience. :) Bid sheet is updated multiple times a day, but only emailed once. At the earliest possible time Thursday morning, I will add all bids in my email inbox, then add all new lot submissions in my email inbox, then add lot numbers. > WHEN DOES IT END? The auction is currently scheduled to end at 10pm Eastern on Saturday August 27th. There has been a request to extend it through Labor Day weekend though. Seems OK to me. The decision will be made and published with several days' notice. > HOW DO I BID? Email me your bids at uthminsta AT hotmail DOT com - all itneeds to be is a bid amount and brief lot description. It isn't necessary to put each item on a new line, but it sure helps, what with the loads of bid sheets I'm getting. Bid on one lot or a hundred lots, no problem. And ifyou want to send multiple emails, that's fine too. All bids are processed in the order they are received. > HOW DO BID AMOUNTS WORK? Basically like eBay. Bid as high as you want. Only I will know that max amount. The amount you pay - the amount shown on the spreadsheet and in server emails - will only be a dollar higher than the other bidders' max. In the event there are two bids of the same amount, theearlier bid takes precedence. Full dollar amounts only, please. > DO I SEND YOU MY CARDS? No. At the end of the auction, after bidders havepaid for their lots, donors send their cards directly to the bidders. > WILL YOU PLEASE ADD LOT NUMBERS? Yes. As soon as we close off new submissions. So starting Thursday, August 18th, through the end of the auction, all lots will have a lot number for your convenience. :) > Bid sheet is updated multiple times a day, but only emailed once. Aaron Shirley ================= Date: Wed, 24 Aug 2016 21:37:00 -0400 To: OBC Ramblings , Subject: Late Addition to Rittenberg Auction From: LAWRENCE TIPTON I checked with Aaron, and he said it was OK to add one late auction item. We have had a good amount of talk about the =E2=9969 and =E2=9970 Topps Man on the Moon sets. Then the 1963 Topps =E2=9CAstronaut Pictures=E2=9D set with the 3-D backs was brought to light. Now I introduce the fourth set 1963 Popsicle =E2=9CSpace Cards". 55 cards in the set and was issued just after the 1963 Topps =E2=9CAstronauts Pictures=E2=9D set. The '63 Popsicle =E2=9CSpace Cards=E2=9D and the =E2=9963 Topps =E2=9CAstronaut Pictures=E2=9D share the same artwork and the same card numbers. But the backs feature an add for Popsicle frozen confections (no 3-D backs) and all references to Topps are removed. The Popsicle =E2=9CSpace Cards=E2=9D (F253) 55 card set was issued shortly after the 1963 Topps =E2=9C Astronaut Pictures =E2=9D (R709-6) set. The two sets share the same artwork and card numbers. The front of the#55 checklist card has the word =E2=9CTopps=E2=9D removed. Other than that, the fronts of the two sets are identical. The card Backs are a different story. The 3-D sketches had been removed and have been replaced by a generic advertising card. Backs feature an advertisement for =E2=9C frozen confections" and a "Joe Lowe Corporation" manufacturer identification. The Sport Americana Price Guide values the Popsicle =E2=9CSpace Cards" atdouble the price of the 1963 "Astronaut Pictures=E2=9D I won a 23 card lot on eBay for $100 and seven of them were duplicates. I will also include a duplicate #55 a TOUGH checklist card! The checklist is basically complete but has a deep1/2 inch rubber band cut and numbers creases and round corners. Starter set of eight 1963 Popsicle =E2=9CSpace Cards=E2=9D cards are in G-VG except #55 checklist in Poor condition #6 #12 (#39 John Glenn) (#42 John Glenn) (#44 John Glenn) (#45 John Glenn) (#47 John Glenn and family with President Kennedy) (#55 checklist card) open at $25 ================= Date: Thu, 25 Aug 2016 02:39:57 +0000 (UTC) To: "obc-wantlist@yahoogroups.com" Subject: Need a few Topps cards to finish my sets from 1971 to 1979 From: Jim Thayer Hey guys, The light is getting stronger at the end of the tunnel for these sets, and I'd love to get closer!
