A variation is caused by something being changed in the pre-press set up. If something gets goofed up in the actual printing, then it is a printing difference. The print process can be screwed up for a moment or for days, but they are still printing differences regardless of how many cards show up with or without a glob, speck, circle, or color change. That said, Herrer(a) 1958 Topps is likely a printing difference yet people want them. One or two asterisks on a 1974 Topps checklist is a variation, but not many people care. I'd collect it no matter what you call it, but if I were a seller, I'd be embarrassed to call it a George Vrechek From: OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com [mailto:OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of BBC Trading cobbspikedmetrades@gmail.com [OBC-Wantlist] Sent: Monday, December 14, 2015 11:19 AM To: Subject: [OBC-Wantlist] 1974 Topps Traded Jim Wynn Variation Hey OBC, There's a seller on eBay stating he has discovered a new variation. It's the 1974 Topps Traded Jim Wynn and the variation has what he calls a "Target" in the upper left background on the card. There is definitely a circular black mark there. He shows two examples in his listing which apparently means it's not just a random print dot type issue but rather a repeated printing therefore a variation. I found another example of this same "Target" variation for my Jim Wynn HOMer collection. Do you guys feel this is a true variation? And, whether it is or not, I'd like to get more of them for my Jim Wynn collection. So if any of you happen to have any of them and would part with them, please let me know. You can see the eBay listing if you search "1974 Topps Traded Wynn Variation". Are the colorsthe same for entire teams (orange for Orioles, blue for Tigers, etc.)? I believe I have some coins in wrong color holders and should check and mayberequest a few of the plastic holders to put the paper insert into the correct color. Are any of the holders the 180 backs? I have not listed but have been building a 180 back set. I should list it as I am getting close to1/2 way (have 84 of 180). Would anyone ever think of cheating??? I need #2 Pierce shortprint in Salada, but have him in Shirriff. Swap the insert??? Actually all 6 I need in Salada for the base set I have in Shirriff. Damn ethics will not allow me to do such a sneaky thing - yet! Now if I bought a group of Shirriff, and a couple did not have the plastic discs, and were paper inserts only and they were of the ones I need in Salada, I likelyWOULD put them into a Salada holder.
