Now Available You may have heard of Guru's Sewer Collection Find of 2012 at the National. I believe I have topped the Guru today in terms on acquiring an even worse looking collection of about 75 commons from the 1958 Topps set with numbers from about 290 to 480. These cards were caught in a fire but for some reason didn't burn. They are just singed a tad (or more)on the front or the back of the card. As they say on eBay - You will find the condition of these unslabbed cards typical of what you'd expect for cards of that age - that were caught in a severe fire. Corners are a bit soft, but most of the cards are intact with absolutely guaranteed no writing on them, punch holes, trimming, tears, staples, or severe creasing. For about one-third of the cards, the fronts are mostly free of major fire damage. However, if the fronts are OK, you can be pretty confident that the backs will be terrible. One side or the other of the card got charred. I wouldn't call these cards "rare", more like "well-done" would be a better description. Even if you have completed your collection of 58s, you might want to pick up a few of these babies while they last. I don't know that you'll be able to find any cards in any worse condition in your collecting career, although it might be possible with some water and cleansing powder to slightly improve the appearance of these things. They couldn't look any worse after the I "rescued" these cards by paying about 12 cents each for them today at a local show, and later realized that 12 cents was at least 10 times the possible value. They needed a new home though, and I thought OBC would be the place. If you want these, let me know. I'd give you the card numbers, but I can't read them all. Kubek, Skowron, and Newcombe are among those of any note. If more than one person in the world wants these, I'll divide up the lot randomly among the takers. Does anyone have an extra Boog they'd be willing to part with? I'd be glad to try to hit your list back if I can. BTW, this show is always fairly small & NEVER has signers, but this time they brought in former Reds shortstop Leo "Chico" Cardenas. While I didn't spring for an auto, I did manage to talk to him for a few minutes. It was good to see he's still around.
