================= Date: Sat, 1 Sep 2012 14:53:47 -0700 To: "OBC-Ramblings@yahoogroups.com" , From: "Erik & Leticia Greenwood" Subject: Wantlist Rambling I have really enjoyed the various ramblings over the last couple of months. From the rookie rambles to the great times that were had at the National highlighting OBC generosity the reads have been interesting, humorous, and yes, sometimes sobering. I have been making a couple of transitions with respects to collecting myself that has had me looking at my collection. The first is the mobilization of technology. With the advent of the tablet, smart phones, etc., I have found myself challenged trying to operate with my old resources (i.e., Excel,Access, and Word) in this new paradigm. We have desktop computer and a couple of mobile devices. The desktop computer is always at a premium. Betweenmy wife's photography business, my daughter's video editing and my other daughter's general interest in the web, my time at a desktop at home is rare. I ended up transitioning my web site to Google sites (https://sites.google.com/site/oldbaseballobc/), and can access my wantlist site with reasonable visibility. I have had to consolidate my desktop applications down to a simple Excel document. It appears to be working out pretty well. Case in point, I started this message on my desktop, and finished up on my phone. Now on to the second challenge. As my daughters are getting older, the competition for resources increases - time, space and money. I have been trying to figure out the best way to right size my collection. I have donated a large portion of my collection (mainly UV). I have swappedsome with my OBC brethren. I have resolved myself to a 1,000 card checklist. It poses a challenge due to my HOF and type collections. My sets now mainly consist of non-sport tobacco so I have added Diamond Stars (for the third time) and 55 Red Man. I will assess additional sets as I go. I really want to focus on vintage sets that won't break the bank. I may addmore in the future, but not more than 2-3 sets. I have it in my mind for my 1,000 card want list to take me through my next35 years of collecting. Well, thanks for listening. I think this is the most verbose I been in my nearly 13 years in OBC. Alright gang, the 1972 Topps Birth Year Quest is down to the final 4. Quality shows are a real rarity in my neck of the woods, so before I start scouring eBay or sending inquiries to our favorite dealers, I figured I'd send out a message to the group. If anyone has extras of these last few, I'm willing to part with cards from earlier incomplete sets as possible trade bait. At the rate of three cards per week (every Monday, Wednesday andFriday), I get to comment on each player's career, poke fun at the airbrushing job and wonder exactly why the people at Topps ever decided to use "that" If you're not reading the blog regularly, here's a link: http://1973toppsphotography.blogspot.com/ I'm now halfway through the set. At the rate I'm going, I still have until September 2014 before the cards run out. When it's finished, I've decided that the best way to send the blog off would be to run a contest where the winner gets a complete set from that year. It's the ultimate OBC-style RAOK for one lucky reader (although everybody's welcome to enter). I haven't decided whether to make it a quiz (of 5-10 questions) or a straight drawing, but that will be figured in time. Hopefully, two years will be long enough to get another set together. Well, that's where I'm asking my fellow OBC brethren to help out. If you'd like to contribute to the project, I'll be happy to help lighten your dupesboxes. As of now, these are the cards I need...if this holds, I'll keep a list updated and send along a new one to this group about once a month. 1973 Topps: Cards needed: 196 50 (Clemente) 130 (Rose) 174 (Gossage) 175 (F.Robinson) 245 (Yaz) 272 276 281 282 289 298 300 (Carlton) 305 (Mays) 314 317 320 (Brock) 325 327 338 339340 345 350 (Seaver) 351 354 356 361 363 365 366 370 (Stargell) 371 372 376 377 379 380 (Bench) 384 386 387 388 390 397 399 400 (Perry) 407 412 417 424 430 431 435 437 440 447 449 453 456 462 463 464 470 472 (Gehrig) 473 (Aaron) 474 (Ruth) 476 (Johnson) 482 483 484 486 490 492 497 504 505 512 514 515 517 518 519 520 521 524 525 527 528 529 530 532 534 535 536 537 538 540 541 542 543 544 545 (Cepeda) 546 547 548 549 (Herzog) 550 552 553 554 555 556 559 560 561 563 565 567 569 (Alston) 570 571 573 574 575 576 578 579 580582 583 584 585 586 587 588 589 590 591 592 595 596 597 598 599 600 601 602 603 604 605 606 607 608 609 610 611 612 613 614 615 (Schmidt) 617 618 619620 621 622 623 624 (Durocher) 626 627 628 630 632 635 636 637 639 640 641642 643 644 645 647 648 651 652 653 655 656 658 659 660 Contributors: Mike Dillon, Ed Watts, Bob Donaldson, Spike Glidden, John Dahms, George Moore, Lynn Miller, Pat Wattigny, Anthony Arbeeny, Matt Yudt, Steve Hitzeman, Tom Elliott, Don Rice, Bill Malson, Ed Schott, Richard Dingman, Rick Lyons, John Stamper, Ken Morganti, Mark Talbot, Ken Pillion Updated: August 5, 2012 Take Care, Check out my Blogs: 1970s Music Mayhem - http://70smusicmayhem.blogspot.com/ Vintage Sportscards - http://thevintagesportscards.blogspot.com/ 1973 Topps Set - http://1973toppsphotography.blogspot.com/ ================= Date: Thu, 06 Sep 2012 02:18:13 -0000 To: OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com From: "thenamenotused" Subject: Is there a set killer out there?
