At the rate of three cards per week (every Monday, Wednesday andFriday), I get to comment on each player's career, poke fun at the airbrushing job and wonder exactly why the people at Topps ever decided to use "that" If you're not reading the blog regularly, here's a link: http://1973toppsphotography.blogspot.com/ I'm now halfway through the set. At the rate I'm going, I still have until September 2014 before the cards run out. When it's finished, I've decided that the best way to send the blog off would be to run a contest where the winner gets a complete set from that year. It's the ultimate OBC-style RAOK for one lucky reader (although everybody's welcome to enter). I haven't decided whether to make it a quiz (of 5-10 questions) or a straight drawing, but that will be figured in time. Hopefully, two years will be long enough to get another set together. Well, that's where I'm asking my fellow OBC brethren to help out. If you'd like to contribute to the project, I'll be happy to help lighten your dupesboxes. As of now, these are the cards I need...if this holds, I'll keep a list updated and send along a new one to this group about once a month. 1973 Topps: Cards needed: 251 11 12 31 50 (Clemente) 130 (Rose) 137 146 161 167 174 (Gossage) 175 (F.Robinson) 177 178 189 190 (Gibson) 196 199 (Blyleven) 205 208 209 220 (Ryan) 222 225 230 (Morgan) 231 232 240 245 (Yaz) 247 250 252 263 265 266 267 269 272 276 281 282 289 295 297 298 299 300 (Carlton) 305 (Mays) 307 312 313 314 315 316 317 320 (Brock) 322 325 327 330 (Carew) 338 339 340 345 350 (Seaver) 351 354 356 357 359 361 363 365 366 370 (Stargell) 371 372 376 377 379 380 (Bench) 384 385 386 387 388 390 397 399 400 (Perry) 401 407 410 (McCovey)412 413 414 417 420 424 430 431 435 436 437 439 440 447 449 452 453 456 462 463 464 470 472 (Gehrig) 473 (Aaron) 474 (Ruth) 476 (Johnson) 482 483 484485 486 487 490 492 493 494 497 504 505 512 513 514 515 517 518 519 520 521 522 524 525 527 528 529 530 532 534 535 536 537 538 540 541 542 543 544 545 (Cepeda) 546 547 548 549 (Herzog) 550 552 553 554 555 556 559 560 561 563 565 567 569 (Alston) 570 571 573 574 575 576 578 579 580 582 583 584 585 586 587 588 589 590 591 592 595 596 597 598 599 600 601 602 603 604 605 606607 608 609 610 611 612 613 614 615 (Schmidt) 617 618 619 620 621 622 623 624 (Durocher) 626 627 628 630 632 635 636 637 639 640 641 642 643 644 645 647 648 651 652 653 655 656 658 659 660 Contributors: Mike Dillon, Ed Watts, Bob Donaldson, Spike Glidden, John Dahms, George Moore, Lynn Miller, Pat Wattigny, Anthony Arbeeny, Matt Yudt, Steve Hitzeman, Tom Elliott, Don Rice, Bill Malson, Ed Schott Updated: July 1, 2012 Take Care, Check out my Blogs: 1970s Music Mayhem - http://70smusicmayhem.blogspot.com/ Vintage Sportscards - http://thevintagesportscards.blogspot.com/ 1973 Topps Set - http://1973toppsphotography.blogspot.com/ ================= Date: Sun, 1 Jul 2012 15:18:24 -0700 (PDT) To: OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com, Chris From: John Stamper Subject: Re: [OBC-Wantlist] 1973 Topps -- A Giveaway Set Cross these off the list... 12, 137, 146, 161, 167, 177, 178, 189, 208, 209, 225, 231, 232, 247, 250, 252, 263, 265, 266, 267, 269, 295, 297, 299, 312, 313, 401, 420, 436, 452, 485, John Stamperhttp://holidayandhobbies.yolasite.com/ --- On Sun, 7/1/12, Chris wrote: From: Chris Subject: [OBC-Wantlist] 1973 Topps -- A Giveaway Set To: OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com Date: Sunday, July 1, 2012, 10:53 AM As many of you know, I am writing a blog that features cards from the1973 Topps set. I started working on Hostess cards a few years ago with the hope I could make some easy progress. I found though that not too many dealers bring along Hostess cards at shows and they are apparently not plentiful among OBCers. I've listed them by # on my trade bait section of my website. I'm in need of a few more cards for my 1954 Topps run (mainly the Aaron and LasordaRC) These cards up for trade are not the best condition, but not really Tiptons. I'd say they are mostly G or VG. (Mantle, Clemente, Berra, Maris, B.Robinson, etc. and a 50 Bowman Ralph Kiner too.) If anyone has any of thepesky 54 Topps I still need, I should be able to cover the BV. The cards, featuring only offensive players were produced by Topps and use the identical design as the 1974 Topp set. However, some differences can be noted on certain cards. Some of the game cards have 1972 statistics on the card backs, and others have different player poses on the front (#'s 23,49, 116, 124, 126 & 127). Players with an * have 1972 statistics (note - this is wrong. Cards with "1972 Season" have 2 asterisks. Offensive line players who don't have stats either have * (Topps) or ** (PB) Therefore all numbers below - the PB cards - have two asterisks except for the possible additional variations listed at the top of the e-mail). Card numbers in this set are identical to the card numbers the players have in the regular 1974 Topps 23 Norm Snead (vertical pose) 49 Bob Windsor (vertical pose with **) 1974-75 Topps Some of you may be familiar with them already. Once in a great while they have lots of poor-fair starter sets at greatly discounted prices. This is an example of a current offering for early Bowman sets in case someone was looking to start/fill holes or even go in as a group and split the lot, etc. Some big stars for the price. For future reference, if you look on the left column under "Sets" and then "Starter Sets" and click it, you will find all the years they offer. If interested in a particular year, just click that and see the different lots offered. Generally they are VG or better. Just thought I'd let everyone know in case there is any interest. Too busy moving out of one home and into another. Some of these will be very tough, but some may be had at reasonable prices. This might be fun to see what everyone brings to the swap!
