Today I was at a coin shop and a guy walked in with some trade dollars he said were made at the San Francisco mint in 1798! Ok, the coin collectors here know the San Francisco mint was not even in existance in 1798 and Trade Dollars were minted from the years 1873 to 1885. But this guy walks in with a dozen trade dollars with a San Francisco "S" mint mark dated 1798. Naturally the owner of the store has no desire to buy these obviously fake coins. So I follow the guy outside and ask how much he wants for them and when he says $1 each I buy a couple. I thought I would make one available to the coin collectors here. It sure is a conversation piece at least. A 1798 trade dollar from the non existant San Francisco mint! ================= To: Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2008 17:06:11 -0400 From: "Ed Schott" Subject: a few more from the fleamark 57 # 241 60 #s 110 191 257 263 500 503 69 #s 501 505 523 555 638 645 655 70 #s 505 506 507 512 513 515 525 526 529 543 624 681 692 70 OPC #52 please claim away ED from steamy "Bawlmer" ================= Date: 10 Jun 2008 03:50:23 -0000 From: OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com To: OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com Subject: OBC member address list reminder, 6/10/2008, 12:00 am Reminder from: OBC-Wantlist Yahoo! Here is a little about my dad...He is the man who got me into baseball and baseball cards...My favorite memories of dad are PLaying catch in the yard with him, Playing ball with him, him driving me to little league games, and Going to Mets and Yankees games with my dad. I remember at one of my little league games dad was in the stand and i was so nervous, I struck out the first 2 times i got up, then popped up, I was a better hitter then that and was bummed, then my coach said to me..."kid you father left i guess he was embarrassed to watch you" wow i was alittle upset, and relieved at the same time my next at abat cam with 2 down and 2 on we were down by 2 and i remember the first pitch was a low inside fastball and i just swung with no pressure just trying to get a hit...well as i was charging down the line I saw the ball never came down, and my coach said "trot...you got it" we took the lead, as i rounded 3rd I saw my father standing right there giving me a big wink....after the game (we won) he said "Son that was some shot, I am proud of you" that meant the world to me...... Another Fond Memory was Dad and I putting baseball set together the first set we worked on was the 86 topps which we finally finished thanks to ken Morganti last year, but we put wax packs sets together from 87-90 topps and 87 Donruss. He always mentioned his favorite set was the Topps set with the players in the circle as he called it the 1959 Topps. My Dad still buys me cards when ever he sees them weather i need them or not and those cards go into my sets because they are special...any card dad bought me of I bought with my father has stayed with me from the day i got it and will go to my sons. My Question to my OBC buddies is can I ask for some help starting a 59 Topps set for my dad? Right new i have a few cards for him, but id like to get a nice starter for him so Dad and I and Dad and my sons can all work on the set.....If I am out of line asking for OBC help for a non obcer I am sorry and hope not to offend any of my OBC buddies.....any Help would GREATLY be appreciated.....and just to let you guys know...If dad gets a card I need It will go to him, and I will just have to deal with it...LOL Thank you for taking the time to read this and Thank you for any help Rob "The FIREMAN" **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife.
