For the most part I determined that if I was within 10 cards of completion that I was close enough for consideration. Of course a number of sets like this have been on my list for a number of years (`54 Topps with Aaron & Williams and `86 Topps FB w/Rice come to mind) and still have not been completed but I am always optimistic that I will either find someone willing to trade or can find the needed cards at an affordable price. With all this being said I am setting a goal of completing at least 10 vintage sets this year. Some may find that insane but I have a ton of sets that are close enough and in reality I only need to focus on the list that I have worked on today. My New Years Resolution this year is to send out "return fire" to all who send me items within a week and try to keep my desk free of received envelopes that remind me that I should send out cardboard to individuals who send me stuff. I am going to continue my personal Birthday project that allows me to send a message to everyone in the group at least once a year simply because I like doing so. Another thing I would like to do this year is meet a few more members of our group in person. So here is the list I will be focused on this coming year. The following list IS LONG!!! It comprises all sets that I believe are close enough to completion to focus some serious attention on. I have not posted a list like this for quite some time and will pledge not to "clog up" the email server with it again until I report to you my progress at the same time next year. I would entertain any trades that would allow me to make a dent in any of these sets - just drop my an email or better yet just send me some cardboard as you know I will find something to return to you. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to look over this monstrosity!!! MARK S. Back when the craze to collect 49 Bowman white/gray backs started a few years ago, I figured I'd take my complete 1949 Bowman Red Sox team set to a show so I could see exactly which ones I had/needed. Somehow, that was the last time I ever saw my team set. I've scoured the house several times without luck. I thought it was in a small folder, like a kid would use for a book report, but can't find it. I'm about ready to give up and start over. Ugh. 15 cards. One HOFer. One guy who's very popular. 6 high numbers. I remember it took a lot of effort to track down the last high number. And now I don't have Sims to rely upon. I keep hoping the cards will show up some day. Things usually work out. But I'm nearly ready to give up on these... Any help is appreciated. In case anyone wants to play with it, just go to www.geocities.com - the id is obcdatabase and the password is baseball. I went to the Create/update part of the control panel and used Yahoo!Pagewizards to set it up. Who knows - maybe someone knows of a much better way. Looks like this was successful. So far I've seen ELEVEN 1980 wantlists, from Bill Ashton, Brian Betza, Larry Gersbach, Joel Gyselinck, Rick Lyons, Tom Massimo, Mike Mroz, Don Rice, Mike Rich, Mark Talbot, and of course myself. If there's anyone I left out, I did not get your list. I've checked them all and have a few to send out to Ashton, Gersh, Mroz, Talbot. I'm going to wait until the next round to put a few more cards with them though. The flurry of activity has got me thinking about several things, and I think it might help to get a little input from the players (you)! 1. This one's simple. I just don't know the answer. How does hockey card dating work, alongside the other sports? I mean, if we're working on 1980, which year of hockey belongs, 1979-80 or 1980-81? I just assumed that the 1979-80 were the ones that came out in 1980, so they would be the ones that would go in. But honestly, when I started this, I didn't even think about hockey (sorry hockey fans, don't throw a puck at me). 2. There have been a couple guys (Steve Rittenberg and Mike Mroz who have done work on webpages that could host a compilation of wantlists, to simplify what we're doing. I really like this idea, but I don't want one person to have to do a lot of compiling. Do either of these webpages have the capability to give all the guys in OBC the chance to input and update their own material? If so, and it's user-friendly, I say we should definitely pursue that!!! 3. Would it be simpler to have everyone JUST write their wants, or JUST to post their availables? I know that there have been people who posted a wantlist, and a few minutes later someone posted that they had several hundred dupes from that same set. Perhaps going to a thematically-aligned (or year-by-year) webpage (like the one Steve is suggesting) would solve this problem. Everyone puts their wantlist on the new page, then everyone puts their availables on the wantlist server, so that everyone can read what's up for grabs. 4. Hey, I know there's still activity on 1980 stuff, but if you're like me, you're already thinking about 1979. A couple of people have suggested we do more years at once, but as I said earlier, there have been 11 wantlists to read over, and I think 14-15 lists of availables to consider. And packages to prepare. Envelopes to lick. Etc. And my two small children to play with!!! So do you guys think it would be OK to wait a couple days for the flurry of 1980-activity to die down before we do 1979? 5. Did I just confuse everyone even more? 6. Is everyone enjoying this?!!? 7. I'd like to see it move along slowly -for instance,to dig out the two 600 count (Land O Lakes cheese) boxes of 1980 dupes, I had to move 30-40 other that were piled on top of a huge stack in my closet. The other problem I have with my dupes is that they're currently sorted by TEAM, not number, since that's how I collected the set when I was 13... and each team was in a rubber band with the checklist marked. That's eventually how they went into the binder years later too. I'm going to need some time to sort these out by number before I start hitting lists... if anyone still needs any of them by the time I'm done sorting. The 1981 projects would be just that, as there are even more boxes of each (about 5 cheese boxes of each company). Some ofthem just thrown together compilations from busting wax boxes in the mid to late80's - and then adding cards to them as I 'found' them over the years - not sorted by team number. I'm going to get started now on sorting out the two 1980 ones and see how that goes. I've added the diamond stars to the pre-war section, so the list gets longer. I have also set a number of goals...nothing too elaborate. In 2008 I hope to finish the 48 Bowman Set (need 4), the 50 Bowman set (need 2), the 55 Bowman set (two, but both are on the way), t201's (need three commons), t205 (need Wilhelm), 35 Goudeys (Ruth +1), 38 Goudeys (3 cards until I have one of each player), and 69 football (need 4). I also hope to see some progress on my top 5 list which has seen about 3 hits in 5 years. My oldest complete set so far is the 1960T set. So I am posting a 1959T wantlist and onlyhave 15 cards to start. Fortunately one is the Maris RC and another one is a Banks AS high number. The rest are wrinkled commons. But they all look good in sheets. Visualize them to the far left of the top shelf (oldest set in the bookcase). Looking for other wrinkled commons to join these select few. Will help youwhere I can. Have a good day. Mark Holland Vintage Wantlist: http://www.att.net/p/s/community.dll?ep16&groupid169083&ck/
