I'd like to do this set. I browsed ebay and saw a bunch of slabbed ones for $10 each. Ouch. I'm looking for nice obc style ones for my football album. Any help appreciated. I picked up a couple of 67 topps hi #'s that best can be described as "space fillers" - not trimmed but not all that great of condition either. In true OBC tradition would you believe these hi #'s i am offering are actually in better condition than some of the low numbers i have in the set i am working on! As a famous OBCer once said "i would rather have cards with holes in them than holes in the binder"- These 2 67's i am offering don't have holes but one has ink on the players face making him look like a monster from a zombie movie and the other has a tear in the middle of the card i put some scotch tape on so it wouldn't separate into 2 cards-These are available: 67 topps # 566 67 topps # 582 and now since i feel bad about offering such junk condition cards to the group here's another Hi # available to make up for it: 63 topps # 548-Angel Tom Satriano-great centering-looks close to 50- 50 all around,EX-Mint with only tiny white touches in the bottom right and left corners.-Name and address with requests would be greatly appreciated- Linda ================= To: Date: Sun, 11 Feb 2007 21:17:52 -0500 From: "Ed Schott" Subject: some for the pickin 59 488 60 58 69 537 70 181 466 491 blue team checklists Royals Beermakers Injuns 74 Mogan 85 Brock 60 Frank 55 Jones(Wash. version) 173 56F Bears team 119 ================= To: obc-wantlist@yahoogroups.com Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2007 13:26:58 -0500 From: Carlos Alcazar Subject: February Wantlist I hadn't planned on releasing another wantlist until the end of the month, but some recent generosity has put some serious dents in my 1974 and 1975 Topps lists and rendered them obsolete already compared to the older version. on the Wantlist server since August. I suppose it's because they haven't changed! Anyway, here they are (all T202s): 1) A Close Play at the Home Plate (Laporte, Wallace) (Black Factory 30 Bobby Wallace is one of those guys that made the HOF just by being around a long time I suppose. Otherwise, how does a .267 hitter with 35 HR get into Cooperstown? He played, managed, and umpired, so he was a pretty versatile guy. He broke his hand in 1912, which started his slide and led to his umpiring/managerial career. He was associated with baseball for over 60 2) A Desperate Slide For Third (Cobb, O'Leary) (Black Factory 649 back). Popular and witty Charley O'Leary was the regular shortstop for the Tigers from 1904 through 1907 and played on the 1907-09 Detroit pennant winners. In the off-season, he and Tiger prankster Germany Schaefer worked a comic vaudeville act. O'Leary coached for the Yankees from 1920 to 1930, then worked for the Cubs and Browns. He was 51 in 1934 when he asked the Browns for one last chance to improve on his lifetime .226 average. Appearing as a pinch hitter, he singled, raising his average by .00024. 3) A Desperate Slide For Third (Cobb, O'Leary) (Red Factory 30 back). My favorite Cobb story had something to do with a reporter asking him much later in life what he'd hit against today's pitchers. He said he'd only hit about .300, then after a pause he added, "After all, I'm 73 years old..." 4) A Desperate Slide For Third (Cobb, O'Leary) (Black Factory 30 back). Again, I have to chase the elusive Black Factory 30 backs. They are by far the hardest to find of the three, and I'm not sure that every card was printed with the Black 30 back, but I would find it hard to believe they would only print some of them. I have never seen a premium attached to them, simply becasue nobody really cares other than me! 5) A Great Batsman (Barger, Bergen) -- (Black Factory 649 back). This is a pretty cool card because, although the end panels feature a couple of Brooklyn Superbas, the center panel is Nap Lajoie, who doesn't appear in the T205 set. It makes you wonder why he didn't appear in the T205 set or warrant an end panel in the T202 set. He was still hitting at better than a .360 clip in those days, so you would have thought he would get a card. Anyway, it makes this card a pretty good value for a "common." My OBC goal is tocomplete a Topps run from 1960 to 1980. So far I have either completed orat least started all except the 61, 63 and 76 sets (all in binders and proudly displayed). I am going to start the 76T set this weekend. Don't know when we'll tackle the other 2 sets. I don't have the 76 set on my list yet because I only have a few. As always, OBC grade cards are appreciated. I'll get another binder ready. Patrick Wattigny" Subject: back up and running, and two additions Hi all, After making a mess of my want list by trying to rid all the
and other computer lingos, I started from scratch redoing the whole want list. It's back up now, and I added two small sets to the list that could be easily hit: the 1965 Topps Embossed set (a one card type set, Richie Allen, courtesy of Fireman Rob Gioia currently), and the 1976 Topps traded set that needs 11 hits to finish it off. Big thanks to Wayne Delia and all the technical team who got us back up and running again! Happy Mardi Gras to you all, Father Pat PS--it is fairly crowded, and relatively safe, in New Orleans right now for the tourists who are here for Carnival. Just to let you all know. The average US Credit Score is 675. The cost to see yours: $0 by Experian. http://www.freecreditreport.com/pm/default.aspx?sc=660600&bcd=EMAILFOOTERAVERAGE ================= Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2007 11:13:16 -0800 (PST) To: obc-wantlist@yahoogroups.com From: Dan Angland Subject: monthly wish Hi Guys, Was able to update my wish list, thanks for looking. If you would like to send some cards to me that would be really special to me i would like any early 60's topps or 63 fleer cards of 3 players who certainly (to me anyway) belong in the Hall of Fame a lot more than 2 current inductees- Ripkin and Gwynn. I certainly respect all members who indicated they wouldn't trade Gwynn for my early 60's Yankees heroes but these players are special to me because they bring back memories of my father taking me to Yankee Stadium when i was a kid and besides my father mentioning Mantle was the greatest player ever and Maris was tops too he told me stories of his other favorites who he considered the best ever to play the game at their respective positions-Clete Boyer, Tony Kubek and Bobby Richardson. I think Roger Maris certainly belongs in the Hall besides the 3 above but i am not requesting any of his early 60's cards as they tend to be expensive but i know the cards of Boyer,Kubek and Richardson don't command star prices even though they are big stars to me. I remember Tony Kubek was an announcer for some years on TV and i often heard him praising other shortstops. As i heard him i would like to have told him, "Tony, you were better than all of those players you are praising put together to me." And if could meet Bobby Richardson i would tell him there is no better hitting and fielding 2nd baseman to play the game than you.-Linda ================= Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2007 05:32:24 -0800 (PST) To: obc wantlist From: Matthew Subject: Spike's 1953 Topps "upgrades" Hi guys, With yesterday's arrival of Jim Gilliam, my 1953 Topps is effectively done (i.e., down to the Mantle). In looking through it, there are two cards withsignificant damage that could be upgraded to merely Tipton mint. If you can help out with one of them, please let me know. 1953T: 41 Slaughter, 71 Bartirome Do you Yahoo!? Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! Hi guys and gal, Thanks again to all who responded to my 49B hi# swap post - I was able to knock 9 pesky hi#s off my list thanks to OBC! I'd like to try a similar swap concept once again, using 51 Topps Blue Backs and 33 Goudey this time. NOTE - unlike the 49B I had, many of these are not for the faint of heart...in other words, they are terribly Tiptonesque! :-) I'll start with the Topps dupes I have: 51T Blue - 21 34 and follow with the list of Blue Backs I still need: 3 6 7 9 10 16 27 28 30 35 37 39 50 33 Goudey is a little more involved; here are my dupes: 3 4 6 9 14 17 18 26 36 46 61 65 67 84 93 100 109 121 139 140 146 166 169 172 Here is my 33G Wantlist: 2Vance 22Traynor 25PWaner 27 29Foxx 31Lazzeri 49Frisch 53Ruth 56Ruffing 57 73Haines 74Rixey 79Faber 85 89Speaker 92Gehrig 99 103Combs 106Lajoie 110Goslin 125Terry 127Ott 134Rice 143 144Ruth 147Durocher 149Ruth 160Gehrig 162 163 164LWaner 167 168Goslin 173 181Ruth 187Manush 188Hornsby 189Cronin 191 194Averill 197RFerrell 202Hartnett 204 205 207Ott 209Luque 211HackWilson 215 216Gomez 220Grove 222Gehringer 223Dean 224 225 227Herman 228 229Vaughn 231 If there's a # w/ no name, that is probably a common and a card you are more likely to have if your set looks anything like mine . If you'd rather just know what commons I need w/o wading thru the list above, here are the #s: 27 57 85 99 143 162 163 167 173 191 204 205 215 224 225 228 231 PLMK if you are interested in helping me out. I will do my best to send other hits as well as the Goudey or Topps Blue return fire that will keep you from losing ground on your own respective set quests. Finally, if you have a card from either of these sets that is a star, AND you are willing to part with it (I know...a very BIG "if"), I have star power across other sets that may make such a parting with possible. Thanks as always!
