Does anyone have a spare FB or hockey Beckett?or a non sports Beckett from 1988 or later? If anyone can pick up one cheap or has a spare FB or hockey Beckett (doesn't have to be recent because i need it to identify years of 50's, 60's and 70's FB and hockey cards)i could really use one. I know members have bought older Becketts for $1 or less. Where i live these older Becketts are hyped as collectables, even though they are worthless as far as price values go,and sell for more than their original price.I know there are OBCer's who can find these Becketts for $1 or less.If you see one that cheap could you please pick it up for me. There have been a lot of older FB and hockey cards showing up on the card shop bid board recently and unfortunately the sellers don't bother to identify the year of the card.Since i want to offer some of these cards if i win them to OBCer's i could use a FB and hockey Beckett to help me in identifying the make and year of the cards. And then there are the guys who park near card shops and sell cards out of the trunks of their car. This is getting to be a common occurrence at least in my area. The card shop owners call these guys "gravy chasers" - whatever that means. Today i was leaving a card shop and a guy approached me and said, "Hey lady, want to buy some old FB cards really cheap?"He lead me to his car parked near the card shop and opened the trunk of his car which had hundreds of loose cards strewn all over. When i asked him how much the cards were he said they were all 10 cents each. I think the game or "scam" this guy was doing was to find some dumb woman who he didn't think could tell a nearly worthless 90's card from a 50's or 60's card.I noticed a very few older cards mixed in with a ton of junk newer cards. When i started selecting the older cards the guy changed his tune and said he would only sell me a "few" cards. He noticed i was not picking out the junk even though he told me initially-"Wanna buy some old FB cards cheap" most of the "old" cards were newer 90's. I bought 6 1966 Philadelphia's and 5 older topps from a year i don't #184-Jim Simon #206 Ray Odgen #162 Bob Talamini #151 Eric Crabtree and #145 Johnny Robinson I bought a Fran Tarkenton # 120 which i think is a Topps 1971. He also said he had "better" cards for $2 each and produced a small box.I bought 3 of the cards because i thought they were worth it @ $2- a 1972 Topps hi # 295,1950 Bowman #53-L.A. I had a great dad's day, got a Mitchell & Ness 1975 Yaz Jersey from Sara. After hosting a cookout, my wife is playing with Sara, giving me time to clean my desk and reflect. Here are some 1970 Ray Culp #144 - This is a card I pulled from the pack in 70, and put in my back pocket, played a game of baseball, rode my bike and who knows what else. It's in perfect OBC condition and available. 1971 #65 Home Run Leaders AL - includes Yaz. This was the closest I got to a 1971 Yaz for about 15 years as the 5th series never made it to Arlington MA. On closer inspection I just noticed the picture is the same on from the 68 (and 69) Yaz card! 1969 Atlantic Oil - Jim Lonborg; my favorite pitcher as a youngster. 1972 IA Yaz and IA Mays. After searching in vain for cards of both of these guys in 71, Topps answered my prayers and put both of them in the first series. I was swimming in Yaz's and Mays'! 1974 Fleer Pioners of BB - 24, 25 ?? Hello All, It is that time of the month to post the "Wish-List", and this month thanks to a "dealer scum" package from Corky Steiger my Topps Quest has reached the 400 card milestone. That's right, now there are less than 400 cards I need to complete the regularly issued run of Topps Baseball cards (`51 -`80). I now need only 390 Topps cards for the run thanks to all of your help especially Yaz Conway, Guy Mitchell, Ken Morganti, Linda Fitak (x2), Mark Rhodes, Corky Steiger, Ted Clayton, Nick Covello, Dave Keller (x2), Kevin Martens, Jim Craig, Bob Reed, Mac Wubben, Dave Hudock, Jeff Delott and Bob Roth who have hit the list recently (only 628 including the variations with `53 Topps bio's just added). I'm so close on `59, `60, `62, `63 and `64 it would be great to get a few more hits to these short lists. The 1954 set is down to 2 BIG NAME cards left - Aaron and Williams. Here is my updated posting of the Topps Baseball want list for those of you that would care to assist me - I will do my best to reciprocate. Talbot * * 34030 Chatsworth Drive * * Sterling Heights, MI. * * 48312-4604 * * talbot1@comcast.net * ================= To: Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2006 21:43:01 +0100 From: "geno.wagner" Subject: Geno's Top Five OBCers -- Since I last posted my Top Five, I've knocked three of them off, leaving me with only one Bobby Wallace card to get all three back variations of his two T202s! I still need the Black, Factory 30 back, although I'm not even sure it exists - although my hunch is that it does. Here's what my Top Five looks like right now: 1) A Close Play at the Home Plate (Laporte, Wallace) (Black Factory 30 back). Bobby Wallace is one of those guys that made the HOF just by being around a long time I suppose. Otherwise, how does a .267 hitter with 35 HR get into Cooperstown? He played, managed, and umpired, so he was a pretty versatile guy. He broke his hand in 1912, which started his slide and led to his umpiring/managerial career. He was associated with baseball for over 60 years. 2) A Desperate Slide For Third (Cobb, O'Leary) (Black Factory 649 back). Popular and witty Charley O'Leary was the regular shortstop for the Tigers from 1904 through 1907 and played on the 1907-09 Detroit pennant winners. In the off-season, he and Tiger prankster Germany Schaefer worked a comic vaudeville act. O'Leary coached for the Yankees from 1920 to 1930, then worked for the Cubs and Browns. He was 51 in 1934 when he asked the Browns for one last chance to improve on his lifetime .226 average. Appearing as a pinch hitter, he singled, raising his average by .00024. 3) A Desperate Slide For Third (Cobb, O'Leary) (Red Factory 30 back). The "problem" with any tobacco set is that you eventually have to pony up for a Cobb. The Triple Folders compound that by having multiple Cobb cards. Couple that with my quest for all three backs of each card, and you end up just shy of 20 Cobb cards. I haven't figured out how to tell my wife yet, but I think I'll wait until the next time she gets her hair done and presents me the receipt. 4) A Desperate Slide For Third (Cobb, O'Leary) (Black Factory 30 back). Again, I have to chase the elusive Black Factory 30 backs. They are by far the hardest to find of the three, and I'm not sure that every card was printed with the Black 30 back, but I would find it hard to believe they would only print some of them. I have never seen a premium attached to them, simply becasue nobody really cares other than me! 5) A Great Batsman (Barger, Bergen) -- (Black Factory 649 back). This is a pretty cool card because, although the end panels feature a couple of Brooklyn Superbas, the center panel is Nap Lajoie, who doesn't appear in the T205 set. It makes you wonder why he didn't appear in the T205 set or warrant an end panel in the T202 set. He was still hitting at better than a .360 clip in those days, so you would have thought he would get a card. Anyway, it makes this card a pretty good value for a "common." Valacak" Subject: 1959-68 availables I have a few more to add to my 59-68 availables group. I came across a box today that had the word UPGRADES written on it. Then it dawned on me. I had purchased a number of cards, mostly 59 and 60, to upgrade. Here are the remainders. Feel free to post another claim. I havn't even started to sort through the last claim. (Only a handful of emails in response to the first availables listing) No need to feel pressure to hit my lists. Just include your address please.
