"Local card shop bid board winnings" Linda.Yes, i am still going to that local card shop Saturday bid board-the one where the card prices in the outside world and Beckett price guides don't exist it seems. The people who buy and sell on that board seem to be frozen in a time oblivious to the the current value of cards. So i sometimes buy cards i am not interested in if they aren't over 50 cents just so i can offer them to my OBC comrades of the 1917 Revolution- sorry, wrong revolution-I should have said fellow victims of the Beckett price guide revolution of Inflated prices. So here are the spoils from my bid board winnings i am offering as availables. These cards are give aways but i would ask that if you ever see any cards from the 1979 Jack Wallin Grand Slam Set ( yes, i am still willing to trade good vintage cards for poor quality-have you ever seen the photos on these cards?- reprint junk cards from this set)please pick them up for me.I only have 1 card from this set- #119-Ted Kluszewski and the set is listed in my big SCD book-at least in the 2000 edition-Now for the waiver list-some football cards-since i don't have a FB Beckett i have no idea of the years- Ben Wade-Rams-Topps #38-card has "Football Fun" ruboff on back Gern Nagler-Cardinals-Bowman #127 Jerry Shipley-small Bowman #139 Bill Howton-Packers-a horizontal card with 2 pic of the player on the card-left side a closeup and tight side the player catching a football-Topps #33 Bake Turner-Large tall boy( isn't that what the basketball cards are called?) Vertical card-Topps #129 Don Perkins-Cowboys-Philly Gum #53 Jack Pardee-Rams-Philly Gum- #92 The following are all from the same year- Dick Shiner-Steelers-Topps #64 Walt Suggs-Oilers-Topps #118 Fred Hill-Eagles-Topps #130 Johnny Robertson-Lions- Topps #145 Eric Crabtree-Broncos-Topps # 151 Bob Talamini-Jets-Topps # 162 Ray Ogden-Falcons-Topps # 206 Jim Simon-Falcons-Topps # 184 Also won a 55 Bowman hi # BB card on the board for 25 cents i would like to find a good home- Clyde McCullough- Bowman # 280 Also i won some strange looking small hockey card( a bit smaller than those early 50's small Bowman FB cards)for 50 cents.I figured it might be good because it already had a bid of 25 cents on it and i had to make a bid of 50 cents to win it.This hockey card isn't in bad shape-no creases-only corner wear-Does anyone know who made this card and when it is from? James "Bud" MacPherson-Defense-Montreal Canadians-no maker listed on card front or back but it is # 11.Also it says on back-"Send 25 cents to "B",96 Paton,Toronto, for Special Album to hold 105 N.L.H. Players" I picked this card up off the bid board because i knew someone here might want it and can tell me what it is and when it is from.-Linda-( if you request cards please give your name and address in e-mail- ================= Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2006 01:42:48 -0000 To: OBC-Wantlist@yahoogroups.com From: "b_betza" Subject: Some FB sets and 71 BB needed Thought I'd post some short FB sets and my 71 BB set this month: 1956 Topps (Football) 95/120 (78% complete) 1, 7, 11, 12, 13, 22, 28, 34, 47, 49, 50, 58, 61, 63, 69, 70, 74, 78, 83, 94, 106, 109, 115, 118, 120 1970 Topps (Football) 210/263 (80% complete) 9, 70, 139, 140, 144, 145, 149, 150, 154, 157, 159, 160, 162, 163, 164, 168, 178, 179, 180, 182, 184, 188, 189, 190, 192, 195, 197, 199, 200, 202, 204, 206, 212, 215, 216, 221, 224, 227, 228, 231, 233, 237, 239*, 244, 246, 247, 250, 251, 252, 254, 258, 260, 262 1971 Topps (Football) 223/263 (81% complete) 1, 133, 140, 144, 145, 149, 150, 156, 157, 158, 160, 162, 170, 171, 178, 179, 180, 183, 184, 186, 200, 203, 205, 209, 210, 212, 216, 220, 231, 235, 238, 245, 248, 251, 253, 254, 255, 257, 258, 261 1972 Topps (Football) 235/263 (89% complete not including high 29, 55, 65, 93, 100, 110, 120, 134, 140, 142, 150, 160, 165, 169, 170, 195, 200, 224, 225, 230, 235, 240, 248, 251, 252, 255, 257, 262, 1971 Topps 561/752 (74%) 005 014 020 072 100 180 250 316 324 330 331 340 341 353 361 380 385 386 400 402 433 439 450 464 477 494 501 513 518 524 525 527 528 529 530 531 532 535 536 537 538 539 543 544 545 546 549 550 551 552 554 555 557 559 560 561 563 564 565 566 567 569 570 571 572 573 574 575 576 577 580 581 582 584 585 588 589 590 591 592 593 594 595 596 597 598 599 600 604 606 607 608 609 611 612 613 614 615 617 618 619 620 623 624 625 626 627 630 631 633 634 635 637 638 639 640 643 644 645 646 647 648 649 650 651 652 653 654 655 656 657 658 659 660 661 664 665 666 667 671 672 673 677 678 680 683 685 686 687 688 689 691 692 693 695 697 698 700 704 705 706 708 709 713 714 715 717 718 719 720 722 723 724 725 726 727 731 733 734 735 736 737 738 739 740 742 743 744 745 747 748 750 751 Any condition appreciated.... This month I will post my Topps Baseball Quest, now there are less than 425 cards I need to complete the regularly issued run of Topps Baseball cards (`51 -`80). I now need only 424 Topps card thanks to all of your help especially Corky Steiger, Neal Thomas, Peter Mead, James Cooper, Sean McGowan, Randy Wilberg (x2), Shawn Adkins, Mike Sandals, Brian Betza, Dave Mayo, Ed Schott, who have hit the list recently (only 591 including the variations). It also has a blurb at the top saying any pre-wars (pre-WWII, that is) also welcome. The idea is that I'mgoing for a master set of T202s, but have a collection of pre-wars without necessarily going after a complete set. Anyway, with that being said, here's my Top Five for 1) A Close Play at the Home Plate (Laporte, Wallace) (Red Factory 30 back). LaPorte was a quiet player who split most of his seasons among several positions. In 1911 he batted a career-high .314 with 37 doubles and 82 as the Browns' second baseman, leading AL second basemen in assists, double plays, and errors. He was pushed out by Del Pratt in 1912 and sold to the Senators. He could hit line drives as hard as any AL player when he jumped to the Federal League, which he led with 107 RBI in 1914 while batting .311 for the first-place Indianapolis Hoosiers in 1914. He bowed out after a 1915 season in which his average dropped to .253, although he did lead league second basemen in putouts, assists, and double plays. 2) A Close Play at the Home Plate (Laporte, Wallace) (Black Factory 30 back). Bobby Wallace is one of those guys that made the HOF just by being around a long time I suppose. Otherwise, how does a .267 hitter with 35 HR get into Cooperstown? He played, managed, and umpired, so he was a pretty versatile guy. He broke his hand in 1912, which started his slide and led to his umpiring/managerial career. He was associated with baseball for over 60 years. 3) A Close Play at the Home Plate (Pelty, Wallace) (Black Factory 30 back). Barney Pelty was known as the Yiddish Curver as one of the first Jewish players in the AL. He won 16 games for the Browns in 1906, but lost 21 the following year. He was on his way out by the time this card appeared in 4) A Desperate Slide For Third (Cobb, O'Leary) (Black Factory 649 back). Popular and witty Charley O'Leary was the regular shortstop for the Tigers from 1904 through 1907 and played on the 1907-09 Detroit pennant winners. In the off-season, he and Tiger prankster Germany Schaefer worked a comic vaudeville act. O'Leary coached for the Yankees from 1920 to 1930, then worked for the Cubs and Browns. He was 51 in 1934 when he asked the Browns for one last chance to improve on his lifetime .226 average. Appearing as a pinch hitter, he singled, raising his average by .00024. 5) A Desperate Slide For Third (Cobb, O'Leary) (Red Factory 30 back). The "problem" with any tobacco set is that you eventually have to pony up for a Cobb. The Triple Folders compound that by having multiple Cobb cards. Couple that with my quest for all three backs of each card, and you end up just shy of 20 Cobb cards. I haven't figured out how to tell my wife yet, but I think I'll wait until the next time she gets her hair done and presents me the receipt.
