Thanks T.J. for hitting some lists that have seen little or no action in quite some time. John Stamper handed me a SCP from the `87 Kraft set with a panel featuring Robin Yount and Von Hayes. these are hard to find for some reason. Thanks John. Marshall West connects with (3) `94 King B disc's (Bonds, Daulton & Griffey Jr.) and (3) 2001 Post Cereal cards (Radke, Maddox & Larkin). Again some lists that see very little action and Marshall plays set killer on the King B's. Thanks again Marshall. It was great to meet each one of you for the first time in Chicago - I can only hope we can all do it again in Cleveland, thanks for the additions to my collection. IN THE MAILBOX: Lynn Miller sent me a stack of stuff that I think I might have missed thanking him for, so if I did this is overkill but if not I'm finally getting to it. Lynn sent a dozen `84 Donruss with Concepcion, Schmidt, Boggs, Darling, Henderson, Murray, Molitor, Seaver, Trammell, Gott, Sutton and Eckersley. Lynn also includes the (3) `83 Donruss TIGERS that I needed along with (4) `82 Donruss (Trammell, Dawson, Morris & Hayes) and (5) `81 Fleer TIGERS for my list. Thanks so much Lynn. In today's mail Lynn Miller sends a SCP from the `84 Fleer set - some guy named Ryne Sandberg. I have been thinking about adding a 1989 or a 1990 set. Well, I only have about 50 cards from 1990, compared to over 1/2 the set for 1989. A few hours later, and I have a list posted. Here it is - my 1989 Topps wantlist. All cards are welcomed, EX preferred. Spike, you piqued my interest on the 2008 Topps Allen and Ginter set. I've bought about 5 packs. I must say, they're the first new UV set I've been interested in pursuing since...2001 Donruss Classics? Yep. Now I've got a handful of the state cards and a few of the minis; today I got Kerry Strug (a first for me), and I think 3 different checkists. And yeah, checklists in packs are still a little disappointing. So my question is, how do you all build a set when there are subsets beyond subsets? Do you just aim for the base set and anything else is a bonus? Do you pick out a couple subsets to focus on? My hesitation on UVs is always, "Any I spend on these cuts into my vintage budget." The hobby boxes look fun, but too rich for my blood. Anyone else in addition to me and Spike liking these? By Topps, actually. They started out with HRs 1-330, which I think were issued with 2005 Topps series 2. Then the next series of cards they did HRs 331-660, which if my remembrance is correct, was in 2005 Topps Traded. Then they did HRs 661-734, in 2006 Series 1. I would guess that 2006 series 2, 2006 Updates and Highlights, 2007 series 1, and so on, would have included the cards for additional home runs as he hit them... So if you see a lot offered within a short span like that, it's because the seller bought a lot of one particular series of Topps cards. Topps has done the same thing for Mickey Mantle (2006-2008) and Alex Rodriguez (starting in 2007), and possibly others. Mantle inserts were in Topps base packs, at least the ones I got. And It seems the A-Rod cards were issued throughout all the different Topps brands, in bursts of 25HR. So you had to buy basically a TON of everything Topps made in order to build that one. Which means I don't have many; my pockets aren't that deep. I have some of all three of these sets; if you're wanting to put a set together, I'd send some to fill a gap or two. On the flip side, if you get some dupes, I could use them... :) Like you haven't already sent me 3 packages since mid-August. Hope this info helps.
