We have the uv serv= er as well as the new Year project. Members of OBC are not obligated to re= ceive emails from those groups. I would imagine (and hope) that if membe= rs wanted no part of uv, they would not receive emails from the uv or Year = project groups. Are members of OBC disgusted with seeing a UV listing on wa= ntlists? I believe most of the uv wantlists are accessed via a separate li= nk. I just don't see the need to go through all the work to set up a new = group. Now, if we go this route, I will gladly join, as I am having a grea= t time with the Year project. Let's not lie here, none of us joined OBC to= work on an 82 Topps set. We were drawn to OBC because we all have a love = of the old cardboard. We like trading, but most importantly, we enjoy givin= g and helping out other collectors. When I joined OBC, I never thought abo= ut starting up an 81 Donruss set. But I will say that it has been a lot of= fun putting it together and receiving some cardboard. That is what makes= OBC such a great group. The giving nature of our memebers. So, with that being said, here are some thoughts on the 8 points that Rob h= as listed. Like Rob has stated, and Walker has added, I also believe that this sho= uld be a group of OBC members, sending cards for FUN. No participation req= uirements. I would be in favor of the rule that you must be an OBC member. = That would tell me that the persons collecting priority is with old cards,= not the newer uv stuff. This, I believe is the mentality of everyone invo= vled right now. Just a few thoughts. Rob, thanks for putting in the time to get all this t= ogether. All of my concerns really focus with the fact that it will take a= lot of time to get something like this going, and I feel that we already h= ave a successful model in place. I joined OBC because I LOVE vintage cards.....its funny how i became a collector of vintage cards...... when I was 9 It started with 86 topps with me and my dad, then one day we went to a card store called "Amazing Larrys" he had a lot of 80s commons which we needed to finish a few sets, then i saw a couple books he had...he had a $0.25 book, a $0.50 book and a $1 book Inside the books I was introduced to 50s and 60s cards......I didn't have any money so i dint buy them when I got home i asked my father about them and he went upstairs and pulled out the only 2 cards he was able to salvage form his mothers wrath...a 1960 topps Andy Carey and Johhny Antonelli. He then took me back to Amazing Larrys and he gave me my allowance of $5.....I bought $3 worth of $0.25 cards $1 worth of $0.50 and 1 $1 card..... and from that point on we would go every 2 weeks and buy some cards and that's how i started collecting Vintage cards Well after all of the input and also LACK there of I am putting this Idea to rest Thank you to the guys who offered their INPUT and that's all i could ask for....I want to give a Special thanks to Gary Mandell for everything he offered, Tom Massimo, and Mark Holland Just to let you all know I was just trying to do what I thought was the Best for OBC and Its members Thank You Rob Gioia **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music. In addition he included a complete Hank Donruss Diamond Kings Puzzle, all 63 pieces still on the cards. He and I discussed the possible merits of actually assembling the puzzle, which I assume will fit nicely into a full page Ultra Pro Sheet (anyone got one?) Which I have convinced myself to do. He also gave me a Hank card that was a Dedication to the Milwaukee Brewers "Walk of Fame" on July 12, 2001. A card I was not aware existed previously. So thanks Aaron for some great stuff and the lunch and the chat. Hope to do it again someday. Upon arriving home, a large puffy was waiting from Mark Talbot with a grunch of hits to the Topps 2007 set as well. Major damage again. Mark also included a couple of newer Hank cards as well for the ever burdgeoning collection. Mark also sent a badge of Hank that "Thanks Milwaukee" for his playing day there. I just love adding new things to my Hank stuff. Very much appreciated Mark. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! The guy at the local shop said he thought he would give them a try again. The last cards he bought were 2006 Topps series 1, partly because I told him I would like some. But he bought too many, and no one else bought any from him, so they gathered dust and he eventually opened them all hoping to get the Alex Gordon card or some other big ticket item, and that kind of turned him off cards for a while. At least from a dealer's standpoint. He's a longtime collector of the Topps sets of the 50's, particularly the 1959 set. He's been working for years on constantly upgrading one card here and one card there... Anyway, I got five packs of Topps, and one 20-card pack of Upper Deck. Is anyone going to do the Upper Deck set? I am not collecting it, I just wanted to see them and maybe get something cool. So those are available to whoever wants them. Who else is going to work on the Topps set? I intend to buy packs from the shop for now, rather than posting my wantlist online. I feel like I'm basically the card market in Milledgeville right now, so even though it will undoubtedly cost more, I'd like to do that... But as for the inserts, I guess I will post a have-list of those, since there's no chance of getting them all anyway. I picked up some '08 Topps and both Cabrera and Renteria are sporting the "D", albeit airbrush style. It's ironic, though, Jacques Jones is still depicted as a Cub, even though that trade went down before the others. Thanks Bill for helping to reduce my needs in that set before our year project gets to 1984! ================= Date: Thu, 28 Feb 2008 04:22:07 EST To: uvlist@yahoogroups.com From: cardclctor@aol.com Subject: Late thanks yous - the UV version Hi gang, Hopefully this will end up a bit shorter than the note I sent out to the main server: Aaron Shirley, Marshall West, Dan Angland, Rick Lyons, Mike Mroz and Earl Kilbourn all delivered hits to the 1981 set I most recently added. According to the database, I'm just a Ron Cey card away from crossing off the list completely, but I think there may be a card or two in transit still. Now to the specifics in a somewhat random order: Mike Mroz starts off a theme by sending a Yankee for the 1981 Topps set (Bucky Dent) and adds a trio of other hits to that set. THANKS MIKE!! From the House of Maxwell comes a 1981 Topps Gary Carter and Fred Lynn among possibly others. THANKS EARL!! Marshall West finds a SCP 1981 Topps Pedro Guerrero and adds that to my set. THANKS MARSHALL!! Rick Lyons continues the theme of the month by splitting up the Yankees I needed for the 1981 Topps set among everyone and sends a SCP Bobby Murcer. THANKS RICK!! Dan Angland also found a SCP in the form of Yankee Willie Randolph. I guess being a Red Sox fan, it's better if I don't get more than one Yankee in an envelope anyway. THANKS DAN!! Aaron Shirley didn't send any Yanks (although there probably weren't any more on the list by that time), but he did include A willie Stagell and a fresh checklist among the four hits to my 1981 Tops set. He also added in a couple 1983's for good measure. His note wondering about the whereabouts of his package also prompted me to get off my keister and send out a couple thank you notes, even if it was really late in sending and I had to do it in the wee hours of the morning.
