I just got a call from my dad; he went to an auction this morning, and for some reason the person had an unopened CASE of 1994 Topps series 1 cards. The auctioneer opened the case and auctioned them off by the box. Each person, when they won, decided how many boxes they wanted at that amount. Someone won 6, then someone else won 5, and my dad bought the last 9 (yes, NINE) boxes. He's an odd one sometimes. But he loves me. What can I say. I checked my wantlist, and I'm a whopping three cards from finishing the series. But the box says there's a Topps Gold card in each pack, and Black Gold cards randomly inserted. I'd be interested in those. So I guess my question is, is there anyone who is working on this set? Of course if collation is PERFECT, there would be exactly 9 base sets, and 324 Gold or Black Gold cards. We all know it won't be perfect, but if the collation is good, there should still be several sets. If I decide to open them, I would probably put together one "best-centered" set to replace my "hand-collated through the years" set, then decide what to do with the rest. I'm also thinking about the options if I DON'T open them. First thing that comes to mind is using them for the kids' collecting group I'm starting at the church. Of course that would mean I wouldn't get the golds, but I think I can live with that. Haha. But it would be 324 packs for them to open, perhaps as prizes for something special. Or perhaps we could open them ALL and have a collating party. Have to buy a monster box just for them! Sounds like hours and hours of fun for a buncha preteen boys, haha. I probably won't be getting these cards any time soon, but I told him I would want them, so don't go putting them on eBay or something. Next time I go visit him up in Illinois or he comes down to Georgia, We'll see what we can do with them. Three thousand, eight hundred, eighty-eight cards. Woo-hoo. If only they had been a few years later... or twenty years earlier... My WL is down to just the biggies, and Erik hits me with Yount, Brett, and the Wizard of OZ from 81 Donruss (still seems odd to see Ozzie as a Padre), and from 85 Fleer Erik sends Gwynn, Mattingly, John, Eric Davis, Yount, and the Ripken father/son card. Huge thanks, Erik - those cards fill some big holes. (Playing until you're really old must come with the name Franco). Also included were three 2006 Topps cards and four of my nostalgic favorite 1982 K-Mart set. Thanks, KEN! And then there's BOB REED. You might know about the 1983 Topps Foldouts set. It has 5 foldouts, each with 17 pictures of the leaders in a particular statistic. I had ONE of these, from someone in OBC actually. BOB REED sent the other FOUR! And two of them were still in the original clear wrapper! But that's not even close to all that he sent. Details on the main server=85 trust me, you want to read that one. Thanks everyone.
