Kev ================= Date: Sun, 2 Jun 2002 23:05:43 EDT Subject: Availables: Everything but the kitchen sink... (and a few wanteds) To: uvlist@yahoogroups.com From: XTrJmx@aol.com Hi all... It seems that no matter how much I send and put away, I *still* have huge stacks of cards on my desk. Do these things reproduce overnight? Is there some secret cloning gremlin that attacks in the few hours I sleep? Sheesh! Anyway, PLEASE help me get these out of here and into good homes where they can be properly contained! There is a little bit of just about every sport, from pro bowling to baseball, so if you have a typecard collection going, this should be a good batch for you! Also, if I only need a couple of a particular set to finish it, I've listed what I need in red... may actually polish off a couple of these! Gotta send to those I owe first, but that's almost all of you so it's likely that it's more like first come-first served. Take one, take 'em all... please? ...Jim (P.S., again, please send your address with your request... I'll get it out much faster!) =================================================================== AVAILABLES -- BASEBALL ("*" indicates many more available, but in different box... just ask) *1985 Topps #429(Rick Cerone, Yankees) 1986 Sportflics #s 16 19(x3) 37(Reggie Jackson) 47(x2) 51(Sandberg/Garvey/Rose) 79(x2) 115 175 176(Guillen/Saberhagen/Mattingly/Coleman/Gooden/McGee) *1987 Donruss #410(Kevin Bass) 1987 Sportflics -- #'s 6(E. To: uvlist@yahoogroups.com From: XTrJmx@aol.com Hi all... have three starter sets looking for new homes. Eligible cardboard incarnation #1 is a 12 year old set of Football cards from Topps, right before they gave in and started infecting their cards with UV coating. Set #2 is a pretty cool retro 1994 Upper Deck All-Time Heroes, honoring all the old-time greats that we know and love (or love to hate)! Set #3 is an almost-complete reprint of the awesome 1954 Red Heart Dog Food baseball set. Only missing one card... Billy Pierce (and I'll bet you thought it would be the Mantle!) Set #4 is a brand new starter set of 2001-02 Upper Deck Basketball. No stars, but plenty of great role players, just in time for the NBA finals. Warning: Sunglasses recommended. I look forward to finding new homes for these guys. Thanks for your help. Take care, ...Jim ================= Date: Thu, 6 Jun 2002 04:27:09 -0400 (EDT) To: 1988-2003_baseball_cards@YahooGroups.com, nerdmaker@naspa.net, Subject: 2002 Nestle Ice Cream Topps 6 card set Review From: keithsummers@webtv.net --WebTV-Mail-31883-683 Drumsticks by Nestle Ice Cream has 1 baseball card in eack 4 pk box. There are a total of 6 cards in a set (Bonds, Chipper, Piazza, Alex, Sosa, Ichiro) plus 25 autographed insert cards each of Alex & Chipper (odds are 1:348,000!). That means statistically, you'd have to buy 696,000 boxes to get the 2 card autographed set! Cards are the standard size & are color on front & back plus have 3 photos of the player on each card. I have just found out about them thanks to a coupon in last Sunday's paper. Kroger has them on sale for $2.50 (box of 4) till 6-23-02. The reg price is box of 4 for $3.39 (or was it $3.19?). Under the card inside is a $1.00 off coupon on 2 boxes. The team logos are air brushed out & the cards lean toward the thin side (easy to damage when removing from box). There are 3 flavors: Vanilla, Smores & Fudge Sundae. You can also find them in specially marked boxes of Nestle Crunch & ButterFinger Ice Cream Bars. Coalation seems to be decent. I bought 5 boxes of Smores & 1 Fudge Sundae (the Smores is 7 grams less sugar per cone) and in the 6 boxes I got 2 Chippers, 2 Sosas, Ichiro & Arod. It shows the last 3 years of stats along with carrer total (BTW, Chipper was 29 at end of 2001 & had 227 HRs/Arod 26/241). Cards also have the common stuff like date of birth, bats, throws, HGT, weight, city, bio & position. The NESTLE logo is on front & back. Attached is a photo of the back of the box (email me if you don't see it). They are also in the 8 pack boxes but they are not on sale (at Kroger) plus you may still get just 1 card (not 2) per box. If you get carried away like me & buy 6 boxes, you may have to take the items out of the box to fit them in your freezer :-) Anyone know of any other current items with cards in them besides Post cereal? Granola Bars? Jimmy Dean? Mr. Turkey? I did get a few Nascar type cards of off Quaker Grits 2 months ago but they had to be cut off. --WebTV-Mail-31883-683 Content-Description: Video snapshot Content-Description: Video snapshot Content-Disposition: Inline; filename=snapshot.jpg --WebTV-Mail-31883-683-- ================= Date: Thu, 06 Jun 2002 23:01:17 +0800 To: OBC UV List Subject: Thanks From: Lynn Miller Bob D'Angelo sends 25 great hits to my quest to complete the Topps 2002 base set. Main reason was to collect the card of Joe Jiannetti, a Mets prospect. I work with his mother and thought it would be cool to have the card. Wouldn't you know, I win a box of the stuff, get Ichiro, Pedro, Barry, Sammy, Nomar -- no Joe. It figures. But anyway, if my vintage sets seem tough, perhaps this one can suffice. Bunch of team cards, LL's, and just about every player currently on the rosters from Asia, my neck of the woods. I don't know if you planned it that way or it just happened but it really jumped out at me in going through the cards. But best of all, Kevin was thinking about that "little boy" that's in all of us and included an unopened Series 2 Pack. Just so I would have some real fun in putting this set together. Amazingly of the 10 cards, 6 were hits. Didn't get any inserts though :>( But that's OK, I enjoyed the momentary excitement most thoroughly. Thanks a lot Kevin for the cards and for the special thought. Mark Talbot sends another two hefty envelopes stuffed with more Topps 2002. Looks to be about the same as Kevin's and that's close to 50% from just 2 mails. Time to start changing this from a have list to a wantlist. Included were a couple of guys I've heard play or played pretty well; Pedro, Ichiro, Sheffield, Larkin, Juan "Gone"zales, and probably one of my next favorite all-time players, Tony Gwynn. I'm a die-hard Braves fan, but sort of a closet Padres fan too because of all those years in the Navy being stationed in San Diego and going to watch them play a lot. Read my bio about my biggest thrill in my whole life with regard to my second favorite player of all-time, Dave Winfield. Also more LL, United We Stand, TC, and Prospect cards. Mark also include some great Tiger stuff, a brochure on Comerica Park, pocket schedule, All-Star ballot, and the USPS brochure sponsored in conjunction with the Tigers honoring the "Legends of Baseball" Commemorative stamps. Great stuff Mark, most appreciated. And from my mentor Jim Beauchemin a very thoughtful and much appreciated postcard from his recent visit to Cooperstown. There was a nice note from both him and Carolyn. But the reason it's so special is it also is a HOF postcard of "The Hammer's" Plaque. This definitely goes into the Shrine and will forever hold a special place because of the sender. And Carolyn, don't tell Jim but you might be writing me another note just like the last one :>) Thanks very much you two.
