Thanks to Gary Mandell for a great envelope containing a couple of Philly FB cards to my short lists and a slew of post-1980 Red Sox for my team sets. ================= To: "UV \(OBC\)" Date: Fri, 7 Oct 2005 16:22:21 -0700 From: "Geordie Calvert" Subject: appreciations Big thanks out to Jim Beauchemin! After my short rambling regarding my Brett Butler collection, Jim contacted me regarding whether or not I had any Strat-o-Matic cards. I did not, but now I do - Jim sends me cards bearing the season stats for 1986, 1987 and 1988. Thanks Jim, both for the cards and the info on S-o-M! Since my rambling, I've made arrangements to pick up a dozen or so hits to my list, including Jim's S-o-Ms, plus another of the 1/1 printing plates, and a couple other cards I've been looking for for a long time. I even cameacross a couple of proof cards that were being offering by the Topps Vaultfrom 1984, so that was neat. I missed out by a matter of moments on two other proofs of the same card, which I was pretty bummed out about. Thanks again Jim! ================= To: "UV \(OBC\)" Date: Sat, 8 Oct 2005 15:53:35 -0700 From: "Geordie Calvert" Subject: appreciations Once in a while I have a good belly laugh, and today was one of those instances. First, a little history. Last September, I announced to the group that Don Rice had finished off my 1974 Topps set. A little while later, theScottish wing of OBC wants to know whether or not I have all the Washington N.L. variations. Well, no I don't, I replied. Then your '74 set isn't complete, says he. @#$%, says I, guess I'll have to throw those up on the list, thanks very much Glenn. Fast forward to last week - you may remember my Brett Butler ramble. Glennnow wants to know whether I have the Washington N.L. Butler variation. Um, no Glenn, I don't. Thanks for the laugh, though. Which brings us to today. Direct via air mail from Scotland arrives the ultra-rare '97 Fleer Ultra Washington N.L. Brett Butler variation, pictured below. Thanks for a great laugh, Glenn! ================= To: "Uvlist" Date: Sat, 8 Oct 2005 21:04:27 -0400 From: "Steve Rittenberg \(Earthlink\)" Subject: Thanks Bob D'Angelo Thanks to Bob D'Angelo for two Red Sox from his online UV dupes box. Steve Rittenberg sends out from his waiver wire a two package lot of 1994 World Cup cards (German Version) and unopened packs at perfect timing. Due to the Ohio high school soccer playoffs in full swing over here. I have not spent much time at home as I referee these games every night. Thus today I took the day off (as did soccer for that oblong ball sport) hehe.. So Alex and I spent the morning putting this new set and he giggled as he opened packs of the cards. Of course he has some doubles but has a trading partner in Germany as my wife is from there and we have been there a couple of times. So thanks Steve for that great gift to us.
