================= To: obc-thanks@yahoogroups.com Date: Sat, 01 May 2004 18:33:39 +0000 From: talbot1@comcast.net Subject: And the cards are piling up!!! Hello All The cards are all over the office as I plow through plenty of eBay packages and a number of offerings from the following fine traders: Bob Bard sends a Topps Hobby Master Jeter card from 1997. He said I asked for it, so I guess 'm collecting the subset. Thanks Bob!!! Friar Bob Corvello hits two yet unpublished lists with (9) `81 Dunross cards, (7) `81 Fleer cards, (5) cards from a Baseball Immortals set that I have a few of around here somewhere. Bob also includes a `56 Topps back variation of Tom Carroll and a Scratch off of Luis Aparicio. Bob is the first to send me `81 Dunross and Fleer cards, later today these still unpublished want lists will make it to my want list. I guess it's time to start "reclaiming" those lost years in the early `80's. Who knows - it just might generate some trading. Thanks Bob for the introductory hits. John Leroux from out of the blue sends out (2) hits to the 2002 Topps Heritage set. This set has not seen action in months and to get Marlon Byrd (Hi #) and Albert Pujols (CR5) in the same mailing was twice as nice. Thanks John!!! Kevin Martens uncovers (6) UD Legends from 2001 to hit another of those sets that don't see much action. Williams, Edmonds, Kent, Wilson, Giles and Helton all are safely tucked away so I appreciate your effort Kevin. Thanks to these fine traders and all who make these trading groups so much fun. Never did I intend on making a dollar from the copies either. My intentions were simple. I just rented it and thought this would be something other folks in OBC would probably enjoy also; I wasn't making a cover for it to selling it for profit. That's what the law states (yes, I did ask if you could trade me cards in return, but that's not cash! I paid for the disc I copied it to so I'm already behind in 'profit' if your gonna look at it as that) If you remember, I too worked in the software business for many years with HP. I know the law of piracy also. This isn't meant to break any law. I am a very law abiding citizen and church going family man. This was never meant to 'touch a nerve' with anyone. I'm sorry if I have upset any of you others who haven't spoke up, if I have please let me know and you will get a personal apology from me. I also know this isn't a 'rare' DVD. It was just a thing that I thought would be nice to give to someone. The thing I don't understand was when you said that you yourself have made copiers for friends. Are we not all friends here? Again, I'm sorry I "crossed the line" David, and whom ever I have offended also. I will stick to just trading one for one, I guess being generous isn't o.k. even if it had no grounds of maliciousness which could be plainly seen. Scott - my apologies to you for having to write this message, but to understand where I'm coming from I'm a writer by trade and I work for a software company. Thus, I have a very personal stake in copyright Scott informed me that these DVDs are indeed copies from an original commercial DVD. I see this whole thing as video piracy and that's just not right. Its one thing to tape a movie off of cable or make a copy of something on the sly for a friend. I've done it, I'll be the first to admit that. But to make multiple of copies and send them out to people who send you somthing of value, that crosses the line of friendly use. Even if the currency involved is baseball cards and not greenbacks. I'm sure Scott was just trying to get this fine film seen by members of the group who would be interested in seeing it. I can undertand that. It is a fine film, winner of several awards, nominated for an Oscar. That being said, this movie isn't even that rare or out of print. You can find copies of it in the $5 - $10 range very easily. Just check Amazon for starters. --- In OBC-Ramblings@yahoogroups.com, "Scott 'Squirrel' Earle" wrote: > I have 'copies' of the DVD 'The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg' > if you'd like a copy let me know, all I ask in return is a hit to > my w/l. It may not seem like a big deal, but I thought it was great. The seller's eBay ID is lilslip, aka Scott Fisher from Rochester, MN (home of the Mayo clinic). He had some 1990 items I needed for my little project, including a complete high school prospects set. I won 2 of the items I bid on, but lost out on the HS set. I paid for the 2 items with PayPal, and immediately received positive feedback. He didn't wait to see what I would say. How often does that happen these Today, 3 days after the auction ends, the items arrived, meticulously wrapped. Not only the items that I won, but he also included a high school set, the same set I lost out on. Included was an SASE with a note saying, if I was interested in the set, just send him a check for what I thought was fair. Now, this guy doesn't know me from Adam (although I have a great eBay rating), and certainly didn't need to do this.
