They didn't have any more boxes in stock. I bought a sealed box on Monday. As much as I hate to fall victim to the "I gotta run out and buy this because it's hot and limited" mentality, I really like this set. I don't know if anyone's mentioned this yet but there are team cards and checklist cards with head shots on them ala 60s Topps checklists. Well, I know what my weekend card project will be. Opening lots of packs and developing a wantlist. :) If my experience with collation is the same as Gary's, I'm sure I'll have plenty of dupes to share. Maybe now I have a real chance to get it done before the 52 set :>) Appreciate them bigtime Mike Lynn OBC - YES!!! ================= Date: Wed, 1 Mar 2000 13:22:34 -0600 (CST) From: David G Skoglund Subject: Fleer 2000 - more Well, there sure seems to be a lot of boxes available on eBay. One description contained the following: "Fleer/Skybox has cut production to meet collectible demands." Is that code for they're shipping less at first to create the perception that this is more limited than it really is? Which doesn't make sense anyway. Isn't the Tradition product the Fleer base brand? I was thinking about the lawsuit idea that has been mentioned. I'm sure after all those years of Fleer suing Topps that Topps would just love to sue Fleer. Although, didn't they sue both Fleer and Donruss in 1981 over the inclusion of gum? It seems to me that's why Fleer went with stickers in 1982 and Donruss went with the puzzles. If I didn't like the set so much, I'd do what I did with last year's Fleer Tradition set. Wait until next fall when the boxes hit the clearance ================= Date: Wed, 1 Mar 2000 18:36:22 EST From: HMorgan707@aol.com Subject: Re: re: Fleer 2000 ...and I will do the same at THe Ft. this weekend. ================= Date: Wed, 01 Mar 2000 18:32:19 -0600 From: Gary Pearce Subject: Re: Fleer 2000 - more At 01:22 PM 3/1/00 -0600, David G Skoglund wrote: >From: David G Skoglund >Well, there sure seems to be a lot of boxes available on eBay. No, Tradition isn't the "base" Fleer set..... but as far as I know, it's the first set issued under the Tradition name that has such a vintage look to it. >I was thinking about the lawsuit idea that has been mentioned. Fleer sued Topps to break their monopoly on cards of major league players. The case was decided in Fleer's favor in 1980, although the court ruled Topps had an exclusive license to distribute cards with "confectionary items." I don't think Donruss was a party to the Fleer lawsuit, but they were the first company to get a license other than Topps. I guess they must have beaten Fleer by a few months. I don't know.
