Brian showed up Friday evening and honored the Fallen household by staying with us for two nights. Upon arrival, we headed to our traditional Friday night Thai Dinner. Saturday morning, we scooted down to Ihop to meet up with Rich, have a pre-show breakfast, and exchange "handshakes". Both Brian and Rick pretty much went overboard. Brian (actually on Friday) gave me a 1961 Union Oil Lou Clinton card - PSA 8! This makes a terrific display piece for my Rainiers collection. Brian also provided 2 1953 Mother's Cookies Bob Dillinger and Joe Ostrowski, a 1950 Remar Bread Oakland Oaks Charlie Gassaway, and six 1995 John Deere Tractor Cards (I love transportaion related cards, tractors are close enough). Rick obviously spent a lot of time putting together cards for my 1944 collection: 21 cards with a 1944 serial number (e.g. 1944 of 2015) and an Ichiro card number 1944. Rick also hit my new World on Wheels set three times! WOW, AND THANKS BRIAN AND RICK! I scored a lot of really cool stuff a the show, including a 1939 Seattle Rainiers Christmas Card (with player photos), a 1950-s Rainiers drinking glass, a scarce 1941 Rainiers scorecard,, a 1952 Sunbeam Bread schedule, 30 Tip Top Bread cards, and various other items. Saturday night Rick, Brian, Jan (my wife), and I headed to the Mariners game vs the Rays. GREAT game, GREAT, company, and we had a GREAT time! Sunday I had to kick Brian out of the house early because it was my daughter's birthday and we had a family breakfast celebration to attend. Rick Lyons has taken aim on my Red Heart set. His offering yesterday brought HOF Nellie Fox which makes it so close to complete! Thank you Rick! We will both find a reasonable Mickey Mantle someday...if I find two, you know you are getting the other one!

Dave Fallen found me a pair of OBAK cards, easily my favorite current set(s) which have really invigorated my passion for collecting lately. One was Vean Gregg, a star pitcher in both the PCL and MLB and born just an hour up the road from my house. Super cool!
Included as well, a 1913 Nap Lajoie game card. One of my favorite HOFERS, this really helps my goal of having every HOF card ever. LOL?
Thank you Dave (for everything!)

I also got some great cards at the show. 2 dozen OBAKS and 6 Johnny Unitas cards (1971 Topps of course) were my favorite acquisitions from the show!! I got a bunch more but will spare the details...suffice to say I am going to have fun putting these all away. Several of the OBAKS were from OBC good guy Mark Macrae who always has great cards and fair prices. If any of you haven't met Mark or seen his inventory, it's like an OBC foul.

So another great weekend with cards and great friends.  So blessed I am !
OBC Forever,
Brian

They include JR Richard, Ellis Valentine, Ken Forsch, Bobby Grich, Garry Maddox, Jon Matlack, Jose Cruz, John Candelaria, Rico Carty, and Andy Messersmith. Those are all superstars in their own right and, in some instances, for only limited amounts of time - but superstars RON HOEHNE sent several hits - a trio from 1968 Topps including a high number and Willie Horton; a high number AL Rookies card from 1970 Topps (leaving only a handful left for me to complete the set); and a dozen upgrades from 1976 and 1979 including Bob Boone and Mark Belanger. DONNIE BARNETT keeps helping me with the impossible - completion of the 1972 Topps high numbers. This time he sends three hits - Stan Bahnsen, Ken Aspromonte, and Bobby Knoop. JOEL FREEDMAN sends close to a dozen basketball cards, including a handful from 1972-73 Topps (with Gail Goodrich, Abdul Rahman, and Lucius Allen), a near mint version of 1977-78 Tom McMillen, and a pair of 1979-80 (Johnny Davis and Ricky Sobers), leaving me only three to complete that set. KENT GOTO makes his rounds, dropping me a 1954 Ray Blades, in better condition than any of my mid 1950s cards. Blades hit .300 or better in four straight seasons in the 1920s (this card was when he was a coach for the Cubs). His lifetime batting average was .301. Two OBC envelopes were greeting me when we returned, and my wife knew that opening them superceded unpacking. First up was an OBC 9-pack. That's one row of a 9 card sheet, each containing 3 cards. This particular bundle had 7 1973 OPCs, a 1966 Wes Parker OPC and a 1965 Rookies OPC for the ChiSox, containing Bruce Howard and the irrepressible Marv Staehle. A great envelope. Not to be undone, Rick sends 3 much needed Friend or Foe cards. I never planned on collecting that set--just wanted to put together a set as a retirement gift for a friend. The conditions are superb! By that I mean gently/carefully/lovingly rounded corners, creases, gum stains, these are just great. Bob Bannon sends a pair of Topps 1963's, Steve Barber and American League ERA Leaders, as part of his Extra Innings delivery to every OBC member. Last summer, Bob made the fatal mistake of giving me a 1953-57 Spic 'n Span Premiums Johnny Logan, compelling me to pursue the rest of that set - so far, I've got 10 of the 15 premiums, but the Mathews and the stadium card are really tough. Much appreciated, and a dozen roses - er, a dozen Red Man's - on their way to Bob's lakeside paradise in Danbury, CT. Longtime buddy Kent Goto sends a Topps 1954 Jerry Lynch, it's one of the remaining 20 or so cards I need to finish off that set. Beautiful shape, tough card, and a welcome addition to my set. It's been a while since I've sent anything to Kent so that becomes a priority this week. Today's mail brings a Topps 1959 Carl Willey from Shawn Smart, in perfectly beautiful condition as described above. Getting close on the 1959 set as well! Thanks very much. The last one needs a bit of background and sincere appreciation to Randy Welk, to whom I am now even more deeply indebted. A couple of schedules - needed all of them - and three Topps 1963's, Bob Oldis, Jerry Lumpe, and Dick McAuliffe. And what's this extra couple of cards in the package? OK, look, they're UV, but bear with me on this one, it's another classic OBC story of mine. Around about 2001, I think I was collecting the 1st series Topps cards out of the packs, putting a complete 1st series set together, and then 9/11 happened, and I kind of put it on hold at that point. A few years later, I resumed plugging the holes in my collection and bought a complete 2nd series of the 2001 Topps set from a dealer at a card show, and that set included four unnumbered 2nd series checklist cards. Did the first series have those cards? Damned if I know, because I've literally never laid eyes on them. Go to ebay.com and see if you can find any on there. No, you can't. Now go to Google, and search for the same thing - still, these cards are ghosts. No information, nothing. Can't find them on the major card checklist sites, not even my own. I had those four possible 1st series checklists on my want list for more than a dozen years, and was just about to give up hope of ever finding them. Randy's package shows up, and there they are! All four 1st series checklist cards! This was thrilling. You can't find them at card shows, or anywhere on eBay, or any card dealer's web sites. Thanks so much! Each time I figure I've heard or seen it all with this group, somebody extends and takes this experience even farther. Also included are a pair of leader cards that have names like Maravich, Hudson, Alcindor, Havlicek, and Hayes. Absolutely unreal! I have found Jimi to be extremely generous, and this package has some of my best basketball cards. The Dr. J card is interesting - it's in his second year, and he is a second team all star, despite leading the ABA in scoring the year before, averaging over 30 points per game. The back of the card says that he signed with the Hawks under a "future" contract - I never knew that, and he never played with them. I was a Hawks fan in the 1980s and wonder what kind of tricks an aging Dr. J could have shown a young Dominique Wilkins, had they actually played together! Everyone please have a good evening. -Greg H ================= Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2017 23:26:02 -0400 (EDT) To: obc-thanks@yahoogroups.com Subject: Cardboard Thanks From: MARK TALBOT MIME-Version: 1.0 Hello All, More cardboard and handshakes to be thankful for - so let's hear it for: Ed Hutchinson who joined us yesterday in Toledo for the Mudhens game - the real OBC handshake and comradeship was greatly appreciated. Thanks for meeting us half way for a great day. John McLaughlin and wife Renee met us for the Mudhens game yesterday for a meet-up we began planning at the Strongsville show. John who lives just a few miles from the stadium picked up the tickets for the game earlier in the week and then graciously handed them over after the real OBC handshake. Thanks so much for the tickets and the wonderful company John!!! Rich Neissen who sends a deck of cards (52 in all) of shiny things that can get no more description but they can be found on my list.and then he adds (67) additional items (sans description) and dares me to add another set to the list. Well who in OBC can walk away from `dem fightin' words!!! Dare accepted and additional info will be provided on another server - Thank Rich!!! Mike Rich and I made the trip "south of the border" to 5/3 Field in Toledo to take in a Mudhen game. Of course the actual real handshake was accompanied with some cardboard that included (2) `62 Shirriff Baseball coins (Breeding & Mahaffey), a `62-63 Shirriff Hockey coin (Sullivan), a `66 Fleer Drysdale puzzle card, a `71 Kellogg's Football card (Nunley), a `77 Wiffle disc (Schmidt), and a Fleer Basketball card (Vincent). Always a great day when we go on our various outings and this was no exception. Thanks Mike!!! Matt Yudt completely surprises me with not one but two T-206 TIGER cards (O'Leary & Summers). I am speechless, I don't see pre-war cards in the mail all that much and to send TWO TIGERS is very special. Thanks Matt!!! I now have a little bit of time off and will be hopeful to organize some of my collection and get out some packages. Thanks to all the above mentioned traders and to all in our midst - BE WELL!!! Thanks to Kent Goto for a single card pleasure Dizzy Trout 53 Topps. He (Dizzy)was before my time but I recognize him from other old cardboard, and of course that nick-name is easy to remember. And keeping with the oversized cardboard, Doug Smith sends a nice 52 Topps. Thank you. Ed Pike ================= Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2017 04:45:40 +0000 (UTC) To: "" Subject: Ridgefield Thanks! I have been traveling so much forwork lately I sometimes wake up and it takes a few minutes to recall whereI am!
It's strange that I would want to take two work days off (Tuesday-Wednesday) and travel to a hotel room in another different city...but I gladly did. Read on if you may...

First thanks are big big...as I was the happy recipient of 4 tix to the Phillies - Mariners game at Safeco Field from Brother Rick Lyons! Every girl wants to go to a baseball game to celebrate her 25th year wedding anniversary, so I obliged my wife!
The great Tuesday seats were followed by a great win. The second game on Wednesday was another win completing the SWEEP!
Thank you Rick!!

DS Mail isnext to thank. Ed Hutchinson mails a high 67 and James Moleta mails a pileof 53 Bowman Colors. Cheap prices from cool OBCers and these helped me getmoving forward.
Thanks so much for the opportunity guys!

Mac Wubben saw the 53 "BC" list on my site and helped with some of these really Beautiful Cards. Thank you Mac!

Mike Mackie did that too...I'm glad I posted these "colorful" cards from Bowman because they are quite cool! And Mike tried to sneak two hits into the envelope that were on my Topps Quest.
1961 Don Larsen's perfect game (sp) and Hi Number George Altman. I found them, Mike!

The cards described above all made my return home "mo betta "  I'm looking forward to the weekend to put them away, and build some more outbound stuff.

Thank you so much guys!
