The flag was up when I got home and Mark's package was inside. I tore it open to find three hits to the 1975 mini set and over two dozen cards that could easily be mistaken for 1961 Topps. One of the minis was the 1951 MVP card featuring a 1951 Red Back Yogi Berra and a 'card' of Roy Campanella that was never issued. There were a couple 'cards' in that subset that Topps neglected to produce the year the player won the MVP award. I've been putting my mini set in a box as I get them and cross them off the list. The box is getting full, so I'm going to have to sit down, sort and put them in pages very soon now. THANKS MARK!! From: familytoad@comcast.net that cannot express the "wow factor " that I feel, even if I add a few exclamation marks after each sentence.

I've been away from home morethan in my own bed the past couple weeks and today after a long drive through Portland traffic, I immediately went upstairs for a nap.
I left the mail in my car...which is pretty unusual for me since there were 4 baseballcard looking envelopes. We all know that "look"!!!!

4 hours later, I wander to look for a snack and grab those envelopes.

Mike Glasser.
Yup this guy.
Always in the OBC news.
1971 Topps FB.
You guys know what that does for me. HOFERS all sprinkled about a stack of 8 of my favorite cards!!! (There's more of those exclamation marks, even more tofollow)

Don Rice.
Super guy.
Apologizes for only a DCP.
Only in OBC would a sender , giving free cards , apologize!!!
But thisDCP is rather huge.
1968 Lou Brock and the Tigers team. Two massive hits to my main Topps quest.!!! (Today I started at  just 32 remaining)

The 3rd of the pile I was expecting. I bought a T212-3 1911 OBAK oneBay. I love these cards.
I liked them years ago, never strongly pursued them. Now I LOVE them!!!

Ok, number 4, back to OBC.
Sal Domino.
That guy.
Grizzled Vet.
OBC Pioneer.
Card fanatic.
25 years ago, young Sal joined OBC.
There are cool baseball cards to commemorate the anniversary and I have some!!!
Well, I have them because Salsent them.
This handsome rascal also sent a million card in T206 HonusWagner. (the Domino cards are priceless)
More wow factor cards set killers 1976 George Brett and Willie Randolph and elusive 1963 Jim Owens. Topps quest drops to 27.
Sal joins the long list of OBCers for whom my debt grows.

In a month, my own OBC anniversary hits. (You too, brother Glenn !!!)
20 years.
I might not make as big of a splash as Sal, but my THANKS are just as sincere, not just for the great senders above and my recent haul, but for the overall experience.

What a group!!!
Wow!!!

Six weeks into retirement, and I'm just getting a handle on the scope of the schedule tracking and inventory utility on a web page, but it'll be taking shape very soon. If you're in the OBC Facebook group, please see the picture I posted of the dealer's bargain-bin sign from the 2016 National, "Schedule Clearance, 10 for $1, take the whole box for $15" which Joel pre-negotiated a price of $5 for me. I'll always remember that. The whole box had 1,035 schedules, and it was pretty damn heavy. Guru also sends a beautiful condition Topps 1967 #239 AL Batting Leaders, featuring one-third of Frank Robinson's triple crown the previous year. It's in beautiful condition because it's all there, it's moderately to heavily creased, the corners are very slightly rounded, I wish every one of my cards were like this. For some reason, I have trouble accepting or tolerating cards that are "diamond cut", i.e. the card design doesn't line up parallel with the card edges. Any other flaw is fine. Finally, Mike Rich sends three needed and appreciated Hostess cards, 1976 Jeff Burroughs and Frank Duffy, and a 1977 Hostess Jerry Morales. Thanks so much, fellas! ================= Date: Wed, 17 May 2017 02:00:35 -0400 To: obc-thanks@yahoogroups.com Subject: Wes and a Wower From: cardclctor@aol.com Hi gang, Two envelopes landed in the old mailbox today. After the nearly two hour commute home from work today, they were certainly welcome. (I did stop five minutes to get gas and had to pick up the kids, but the traffic was brutal). WES SHEPARD sends me a waiver wire claim I scored by three minutes - a 1975 mini featuring 1953 MVP's Rosen and Campy. That part of the binder is practically bare, so this one is really appreciated. THANKS WES!! The other day, I sent out a message on the wantlist server about a 1977 Renata Galasso set I had, which was missing one card (and had a dupe of another instead). JAY TYSVER answered my plea by providing the missing card (Gil Hodges). Finishing off a set would've been nice enough, but Jay added a 1977 Twinkie Reggie Jackson and FOURTEEN OF THE LAST EIGHTEEN 1975 Twinkies on my list! WOW! THANKS JAY!! Car accidents snarled traffic making me 1/2 hour late for work and almost an hour late arriving home. In between at work was no picnic either. I probably should've called out while sitting on the Tobin bridge not moving for 20 min. Called PSA when I got home because they mislabeled all the 1952 gray backs as the regular versions. Waiting to see how much of a pain it will be to reholder them.  Three envelopes eased the day's tension though. First is an SCP hockey card from ANDY COOK. Borrowed from the Internet and my friend John Memorial Day Meaning =E2=93 The History Each May, the United States celebrates a day called Memorial Day. Does Memorial Day have meaning? What is the history of Memorial Day? Memorial Day was first widely observed in May 1868. The celebration commemorated the sacrifices of the Civil War and the proclamation was made by General John A Logan. Following the proclamation, participants decorated gravesof more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers. In years since World War 1, the day has become a celebration of honor for those who died in all America=E2=99s wars, as well as those who are Veterans and current members of the US military. In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a national holiday. The United States celebrates this holiday the last Monday of May. Memorial Day Meaning =E2=93 Reagan=E2=99s Speech President Ronald Reagan is credited with reviving the practice of honoring Memorial Day and its meaning. One of his famous speeches was given at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day in 1986. =E2=9CToday is the day we put aside to remember fallen heroes and to pray that no heroes will ever have to die for us again. It's a day of thanks for the valor of others, a day to remember the splendor of America and thoseof her children who rest in this cemetery and others. It's a day to be with the family and remember. =E2=9CI was thinking this morning that across the country children and their parents will be going to the town parade and the young ones will sit on the sidewalks and wave their flags as the band goes by. Later, maybe, they'll have a cookout or a day at the beach. And that's good, because today is a day to be with the family and to remember. =E2=9CArlington, this place of so many memories, is a fitting place for some remembering. So many wonderful men and women rest here, men and women who led colorful, vivid, and passionate lives. There are the greats of the military: Bull Halsey and the Admirals Leahy, father and son; Black Jack Pershing; and the GI's general, Omar Bradley. Great men all, military men. But there are others here known for other things. =E2=9CHere in Arlington rests a sharecropper's son who became a hero to a lonely people. Joe Louis came from nowhere, but he knew how to fight. Andhe galvanized a nation in the days after Pearl Harbor when he put on the uniform of his country and said, 'I know we'll win because we're on God's side.' Audie Murphy is here, Audie Murphy of the wild, wild courage. For whatelse would you call it when a man bounds to the top of a disabled tank, stops an enemy advance, saves lives, and rallies his men, and all of it single-handedly. When he radioed for artillery support and was asked how close the enemy was to his position, he said, 'Wait a minute and I'll let you speak to them.' [Laughter] =E2=9CMichael Smith is here, and Dick Scobee, both of the space shuttle Challenger. Their courage wasn't wild, but thoughtful, the mature and measured courage of career professionals who took prudent risks for great reward=E2=94in their case, to advance the sum total of knowledge in the world. They're only the latest to rest here; they join other great explorers withnames like Grissom and Chaffee. =E2=9COliver Wendell Holmes is here, the great jurist and fighter for the right. A poet searching for an image of true majesty could not rest untilhe seized on 'Holmes dissenting in a sordid age.' Young Holmes served in the Civil War. He might have been thinking of the crosses and stars of Arlington when he wrote: 'At the grave of a hero we end, not with sorrow at the inevitable loss, but with the contagion of his courage; and with a kind of desperate joy we go back to the fight.' =E2=9CAll of these men were different, but they shared this in common: They loved America very much. There was nothing they wouldn't do for her. And they loved with the sureness of the young. It's hard not to think of the young in a place like this, for it's the young who do the fighting and dying when a peace fails and a war begins. Not far from here is the statue of the three servicemen=E2=94the three fighting boys of Vietnam. It, too, has majesty and more. Perhaps you've seen it=E2=94three rough boys walkingtogether, looking ahead with a steady gaze. There's something wounded about them, a kind of resigned toughness. But there's an unexpected tenderness, too. At first you don't really notice, but then you see it. The three are touching each other, as if they're supporting each other, helping each other =E2=9CI know that many veterans of Vietnam will gather today, some of them perhaps by the wall. And they're still helping each other on. They were quite a group, the boys of Vietnam=E2=94boys who fought a terrible and vicious war without enough support from home, boys who were dodging bullets while we debated the efficacy of the battle. It was often our poor who fought in that war; it was the unpampered boys of the working class who picked up the rifles and went on the march. They learned not to rely on us; they learned to rely on each other. And they were special in another way: They chose to be faithful. They chose to reject the fashionable skepticism of their time. They chose to believe and answer the call of duty. They had the wild, wild courage of youth. They seized certainty from the heart of an ambivalent age; they stood for something. =E2=9CAnd we owe them something, those boys. We owe them first a promise: That just as they did not forget their missing comrades, neither, ever, will we. And there are other promises. We must always remember that peace isa fragile thing that needs constant vigilance. We owe them a promise to look at the world with a steady gaze and, perhaps, a resigned toughness, knowing that we have adversaries in the world and challenges and the only way to meet them and maintain the peace is by staying strong. =E2=9CThat, of course, is the lesson of this century, a lesson learned in the Sudetenland, in Poland, in Hungary, in Czechoslovakia, in Cambodia. If we really care about peace, we must stay strong. If we really care about peace, we must, through our strength, demonstrate our unwillingness to accept an ending of the peace. We must be strong enough to create peace where it does not exist and strong enough to protect it where it does. That's the lesson of this century and, I think, of this day. And that's all I wanted to say. The rest of my contribution is to leave this great place to its peace, a peace it has earned. ================= Date: Mon, 29 May 2017 13:59:29 -0700 To: OBC-Thanks , davidluftig@gmail.com Subject: Thanks to Luftig From: Gary Beard David Luftig sends a few '60 and '61 Fleer my way.
