Yes, as TJ VALACAK wrote last week, I did indeed surprise him with a phone call last Thursday, and a visit to Schaumburg last Friday, as I was in Chicago to officiate at an old friend's wedding. TJ was OBC hospitality at its finest! Not content with just a visit and lunch, he said, "you cant' come to Chicago without some cardboard!", then proceeded to hit me with an envelope. Some envelope! The cards were impressive. A variety pack beginning with a 1934 Goudey General Crowder and a 1940 Play Ball of Charley Gelbert. Then a 1950 Bowman Ned Garver, with his name on it just so I can't forget! (LOL). 1952 Topps Johnny Hopp, then a really nice 1964 Topps #9 card of NL Home Run Leaders (and all HOFers), Aaron, McCovey, Mays, and Cepeda! Two high numbers of Ed Charles and Bobby Tiefenauer, then a '66 Topps Roberto Clemente, a super tough #582 Garry Roggenburk from that year, then a black beauty Sparky Lyle from the stratosphere, and a 1979 Hostess Bobby Grich (which I don't even have on my want list, but I did collect as a 12 year old). After a great lunch, we went back to TJ's house, where he showed off his pride and joy, his cards! Amazing T205s, 206s, 207s, and fun sets of both Red Sox and White Sox players from a century ago. The basement man cave is aneat place for both TJ and his kids! Lots of Baseball signs on the wall too to give the room charm and a real baseball flavor! TJ insists I look in his 5,000 count boxes of UV interesting stuff, which I do, then insists I'mnot taking enough out of them! So lots of nice hits to sets on UV that I may end up listing! My favorite part of the visit , though, was getting to do my other job, myreal job, with TJ, and I gave him the Sacrament of the sick as he continues to battle his illness. That was an honor, my friend, so I thank you for that especially! We'll get some Strat-o-Matic baseball games in soon, I promise! You can help he finish my 1967 AL season! A long, long overdue thanks to these gentlemen...let me explain.. In April, I laid claim to about 100+ skinned & trimmed 70's Hockey Topps cards from waiver wire via JAY TYSVER, who had originally claimed them from NICK PELLITIER. Having learned about the transfer of said cards, NICK proceeded to reach out to me to see if I was interested in "some" more to help with the 50,000 vintage card goal. The catch was I was to help NICK with a similar goal that he has...seems easy enough... Then, about a month ago I received a 600 card count box of about 600+ maybecloser to 800 because they are skinned & trimmed hockey cards (Topps & OPC) from 1960 including some stars and rookies including a copy complete cards from 1966 Topps. I have this thought to put a stiffer paper on the back of each one, then I'll finally be able to catalog them...a big project! A truly amazing story within a story, thank you gentlemen! Quite a box of cards! MIKE GLASSER also sends some hockey cards. The vintage cards included two from the 1970-71 Topps hockey set in near mint condition, including Penguin Bryan Hextall. Mike chips away at my 1974-75 Topps set with a much needed Orr trophy card. This group always comes through !

The packages in the mail box were one Net54 BST buy, One eBay buy, an author signed PCL book about the first African -American pro ball player Jimmy Claxton....and then the really good stuff!

Taylor really hit me, causing a nosebleed quad of second setters to be crossed off from my favorite modern era set...1972 Psychos! These had some elevated digits like 775 Jerry Reuss and 734Bob Burda plus two others from that last part of the big big set!
Wow,thank you Taylor!!

Ken Morganti has been doing this a long time...sending out cards in mass attacks!
I was on the receiving end of his mailings too....1971 Topps FB , wait I already have these Ken LOL ( inside jokefor those who don't know I have a never ending quest for sets of this vintage FB year ! ) Ken also adds a few of the 1970 Kellogg's 3D FB set. I haveenough now to generate a list after all these years! Awesome job Ken !!

Dave Fallen sent some designated shopper material via the WSSCA Sport Card show that I was forced to miss due to work. He bargained for me and itnetted me a nice big stack of 1910 OBAK cards! These are very cool, and I am glad that I restarted that set. After all, I am in my 18th year of living in The Great Northwest, so I am applying for citizenship!
Seems logical to delve deeper into the baseball history of my left coast homeland!

Dave wasn't going to simply pass along the shopping goodies without adding some of his own...slipping a trio of those aforementioned OBAKS that he must have bought for me!!
Whattaguy!
I really wanted to be there in person to see Dave, Rick and their wives for our traditional weekend. This helps to ease the pain!
Thank you Dave!

I made this THANK YOU note nearly into the length of a Morganti ramble, which is fitting since he's included above!

Brian

One of my personal favorite days, since I love being a Dad....and I usually get baseball cards from my family LOL!

Today we drove about 35 miles to a wonderful breakfast restaurant we enjoy. It's close to where my son works so we could gather before he had to get selling Fords.
My daughter and I will be hanging out together too...hopefully heading up to Mt St Helens for a hike after she wakes back up from her morning nap. The early breakfast  must have worn her out hahaha.

At the breakfast table, my wife handed me a box with a recognizable return address. She co-horted with Mark Macrae to acquire those aforementioned Father's Day cards!
Inside were the nicest stack of 1952 Topps that I now have. My1952's are usually pretty pounded, but these are really nice condition !
These were also 18 that I needed to lower my Topps WL quest.

That's a big chunk of my list at once ! WOW thanks Julie and Mark!
Less gremlins, dupes and other miscalculations, I am within122 cards of finishing the 1952-1980 run, familytoad version.

It's a great day!
OBC Forever,
Brian

Mike Rich who got together with me for dinner a few days prior to his Summer of `16 bucket list trip. He had a busy weekend planned but he still has to eat so we spent a few hours hangin=E2=99 out and of course he did somedamage to my `77 Dairy Isle MSA Disc set with just over =BD the set (36) to add to my collection. Mike brings me to just a couple left for the set(Fydrych & Tiant) with this offering and as much as I enjoyed the discs I really enjoyed being the hometown OBC=E2=99er to send him off on his trip. Bon voyage Mike!!! Sam Taylor gets into the action via a personal delivery from Mike Rich . Sam connects with a very nice `22 E-121 card of Elmer Miller. Greg Henthorn ================= To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com Date: Thu, 30 Jun 2016 15:07:24 -0500 Subject: Income! From: Yaz A special package came in yesterday from TJ Valacak. The two cards included were a 1962 Topps high #, Frank Funk and a 1950 Bowman Roy Smalley. Pretty great in themselves but what accompanied them was a great bit of memorabilia and really thoughtful to boot. It was a scorebook from the 1960 Indianapolis Indians who played in the American Association. Inside were pictures of the Indians front office staff and a couple ballplayer photos and local people photos, plenty of ads like the one with Rocky Marciano plugging cigars and the middle was the stapled-in scorecard. Looking down the names of the Indians, I only saw a couple of names I remembered from baseball cards, Arnold Early and C. Boyer, (not sure if it was Clete or Cloyd, I'll look that up later). The opposing team was the Minneapolis Millers which at the time was a farm club of the Boston Red Sox and here I saw plenty of names familiar to me; Eddie Popowski, the manager, Lu Clinton, Bob Tillman, Galen Cisco, Al Worthington, Chuck Schilling, Don Schwall and the "Monster", Dick Radatz. One other name on the roster is likely the reason TJ sent this to me, Carl Yastrzemski. This was a really neat find, TJ. Thanks so much for gifting me with it.
