The highlight was meeting another OBCer, Tom Housley who gave me an OBC handshake of three hits to the recently begun 1953 Topps set and a NuCard Baseball Scoops card of Rizzuto. Much appreciated! I picked up around 75 hits to the want list, and about the same number of cards form a ten cent box that I couldn't pass up for the dupes box (mostly cards from 53-59). I thought I had pulled all the cards from the 50s but Tom came by later and found more, along with a bunch of 1960 Topps. I was able to chip away at the three sets I am closing in on -- 1955, 1957 and 1971 Topps are all under 20 cards or so. I also picked up four of the five 1971 Football Game cards I need - couldn't find a Unitas to finish it off. I guess I have officially moved into football as I got around 30 of the 1960 Topps Football cards (may as well start with my birth year) which I will add to the wantlist soon. Two I grabbed I didn't need but couldn't pass up a 1955 Mays for $15 and a 1966 Mays for $4. Tom introduced me to a number of OBC dealers. Even the non certified OBC dealers seem to have a real appreciation for 'the hat' and the group it represents. I did have a couple of fun interactions though that are worth sharing. When I got to the show a husband -wife dealer combo were set up in the front. The lady saw may hat and said "Oh you will be interested in this box" and immediately pulled out the 90% off book box. Love it! Then she asked me if I was really an OBCer because I was the youngest looking OBCer she has ever seen and that most of us are 'pretty old men'! Now, I am not exactly the youngest guy in the group at 55 and this just hit me as funny. I know she was just trying to butter me up, but I told her some others were hopefully coming soon and I would be sure to tell them she said that --- she backpedaled quickly and added how nice OBCers were while her husband roared in laughter. Later I was at a table -- think the guys name was Chappell -- and I was thumbing through some discount box and he asked if I was looking for something specifically. I asked if he had a 72 Ryan. He response was succinct "Not for OBC". We both new exactly what he meant and we both got a smile at that one. All in all it was a nice show that fit perfectly into a trip to visit our daughter. Hope to do it again someday! First off, though, I want to point to the completion of my 1976 Topps baseball set - both Mike Rich and Ron Hoehne sent me my last card, Ollie Brown, so I have completed all the Topps sets from 1973 through 1979 thanks to OBC! Here is a recap of what I opened up today: MIKE RICH becomes a hero for my 1976 Topps baseball set by sending last card Ollie Brown. Also along for the ride are 8 checklists from 1973 Topps football, which takes a huge chunk out of my wantlist for those. RON HOEHNE wastes no time becoming a hero for my 1976 Topps baseball set. I now have an extra Ollie Brown if anyone needs it. Ron sends me a generous package that includes three high numbers from the 1971 Topps baseball set, including the Jon Matlack RC and Sparky Lyle. He also pitches in a plethora of hits to the football wantlists, with 6 hits to 1968 football, 13 hits to 1969 football, 6 hits to 1977 football, and one of my last needs for my 1979 football set. MIKE GLASSER sends a nine-pack flat of early 1970s football with hits to the 1971, 1972, 1974, and 1975 sets, including an unmarked, pack fresh checklist from the 1975 set. Somehow, I have never even seen one of these checklists JOEL FREEDMAN sent me a couple of flats containing 4 hits from 1964 and 15 hits from 1965. Among the cards were a 1964 Juan Pizarro, coming off a 16-8 campaign. Also in the 1964s were slugger Deron Johnson and former Pirates hitting coach Bob Skinner. A 1965 Orlando Cepeda was also included - fortunately it is the "update" variety, showing his various teams marked out (Giants, Cards, Pirates, and finally settling on the Braves). I don't remember him ever being with the Pirates so this might also be an error variation. Pretty cool how Topps made the font look like a child's MARK HOLLAND throws in a puffy with 15 hits to 1971 football, including Joe Kapp; for hits to 1972 football, including Bob Trumpy; 2 hits to 1974 football, 24 hits to 1975 football, including Fred Dryer and Conrad Dobler; and one hit each to the 1977 and 1978 football sets. JIMI THAYER sent me an envelope with details disclosed elsewhere but with a vintage looking stamp from the original Star Wars trilogy, showing Yoda on Luke's back during his training. A fantastic bunch of cards from some generous guys. Much appreciated! -Greg Henthorn ================= Date: 05 May 2016 13:15:38 -0700 To: Subject: 2 Thanks today From: jehutch75@gmail.com ================= Date: 05 May 2016 13:04:09 -0700 To: Subject: Thank you Mike Glasser ! I even missed Mother's Day but I am back for 48 hours until I hit theTundra of Montana for another week.

But that's a Ramble and I am here to do a Thanks!!

I hope I got the envelopes correct in my glee torip them open!

Without further delay...how about a lead off hitter named Mike Glasser who slugged a main WL hit with 68 Jim Lonborg and a second 72 psycho set with Don Baylor RC !!, Outstanding effort for which you will need to be compensated Mike!

Sal Domino delivers (see what I did there?)  another great pair. The 64 set is down to just one after seeing the Dick Green RC in the envelope and then he finishes the low numbers in 1966 with an elusive Cannizaro card! Wow Sal...that's a great delivery!

Andy Cook DS'd a very cool (and cheap) SGC slabbed HOF card with Earl"Colonel" Combs from 40 PB!  I have a lot of prewar cards.... And I mean a LOT of prewar , but this one set is under-represented ,and so is thisex-Yankee outfielder ! NIce nice, very nice, Andy!

The slam came from Jimi Thayer who found a a pair of cards I needed. Now, let me tell you that it's rare enough to kill a set. But what do you call a hit that kills aDECADE? (Kinda)
Oh man, I am done with my 1953-1959  run!
(I didn't initially do the 1952 set, and I refuse the high numbers from 1952)
Jimi did the kill by taking down 1956 Topps set with stragglers Stu Millerand Elston Howard from one of the coolest sets ever! WOwser Jimi!

Add to that a few eBay and N54 packages, that brought some oldies (47 Tip Top anyone?) and I had the best baseball card day in a long time. You guys must have known it was a rough patch at work, cuz it really helped!!!

OBC Forever,
Brian

(I graded over 600 exams, papers, presentations, homeworks, and misc...too much back end assignments). Anyways, I have been remiss in my duties to give thanks since May 4th...andmight I say, some interesting posts in my absence...I'm going to give these thanks in chunks because there is a TON of thanks to give, and I want to make sure I give everyone that has been so generous their proper thanks. Way back on May 5th, KEVIN MARTENS sent over three nosebleed '64Ts taking Dad and I's set down to 128 cards...thanks, KEVIN! you rock! On the same day JIMI THAYER provided a very fine package of1965T #s 473 Orioles RC, 488, 491, 495, 512, 515, 531, 535, 551 Mets TC, 556 Schoendienst MG, 563, 565 Yankees RC, 583, 590, 597 Twins RC bringing that set downto 30 cards to go. TJ VALACAK hits in two different decades with1959T #s 148, 405; '64T #s 358, 499 (Indians RS); '79 OPC #s 93, 100, 107 (McCovey), 110, 113...adding much to the sets and the OPCs are helping move the needle on the 50,000vintage card goal (I have to stop acting like it can be done this year...). I'm doing a massive separation by sport, then maker, then year.
