Awesome stuff CHRIS! Thanks so much! Also, I want OBC to be the first to know. My son was born in 1979, and I bought everything I could for a 1979 collection for him. Coins, cards, magazines, everything! Well, he had an expensive divorce 2 years ago (quick thought: is there such a thing as a cheap divorce?). So he asked me to sell his collection if possible... which is OK with me. This is why I built a collection for him. Hopefully the Gretzky rookie card has increased in value. I spent $5 on the entire Topps hockey set. And dang, I knew nothing about OPeeChee back then. Anyway, I want to make it clear to OBC- everything I=E2=99m listing on my web site was purchased in 1979 and early 80=E2=99s, and I never started running with the big dogs of OBC until around 1998. So I=E2=99m selling nothing I received from my OBC heroes. Actually, I built the first rough draft of my new web page tonight. Take a peek if you get time. Would appreciate any suggestions too. A lot of us refer to this as "The Run".

Mine is without a lot of the variations, back colors or the 51 Red/Blue. (I did collect my birth year green tints...dammit Grant!)

Still, it's a LOT of cards, over 14,000 for my version of the run.

The latest deal with Jimi dropped my list to a mere 150 remaining!
I picked up a stack of 1963 Topps including Stargell, Maz and B Robby and other elusive guys like Tom Butters LOL!

BIG THANKS JIMI !!

That is a big milestone for me!
Only 1952 (lows) and 1967 (highs) need more than20 cards to finish.
A few of the sets are well under 10 to go (1956, 1964, 1968)
Lots of the sets are complete (minus a serious gremlin audit that I hesitate to undertake!)

I'm feeling pretty good about my chances to join the others who have completed The Run.

I don't need a bunch of big names in there beyond Seaver RC, Rose RC, 56 Clemente.

I do need those aforementioned 67 High numbers that I dread chasing, but I even have 66 Grant Jackson and Choo Choo  Coleman secured already <grinning widely>
I still need quite a few commons overall.
My hope isthat I will get my list to under 50 this year.

How's about you other "Runners"?

OBC Forever,
Brian

I have 1,707 to go from 1951-1980 including 52 hi numbers which I have none. Although that set is coming along nice I still need Mays. I'm at 1,000 to go in the 50-59range. Missing many Mantles and the Aaron, Clemente , Koufax and Gibson Rookies. Missing 640 in the 60-67. 66 is done and 65 is close. Still have highs to go in both 61 and 67. I have Seaver rookie but not Carlton or Rose. Still working on the 72's which are mostly hi numbers and the Ryan to go. Itdoes get tougher as you plow thru though and my attention turns toward oddball and other sets. I do still get excited when I get a hit to the run, though it has slowed to a couple a week. My Bowman sets are at 1/3 of the way. Not many 49's. Im getting excited about the Fleer run, although not the same since only one year was active players and the sets are small. I'm under 100 to go. 66 are from 59 Williams. 24 from 61, 1 from 73 and 2 from 74.I finished the 60, 63, 70, 71, 72 and 75 sets. The 74 set baffles me, as I remember chasing down the ice cream truck as an 11 year old to buy cards. And did a lot of chasing in the summer. I usually got Fleer Baseball from the ice cream man and Topps from the liquor store. It's only a 42 card set and I've been working on it for 42 years. That's a card a year if I finish it this year. After the stern warning that went on my permanent record I narrowed my choice down to one card and lost out on that bid. Why didn't I pick one of the other 3 that I listed?????? Guru made me a winner anyway by surprised me with 3 "Non-Auction" cards from the 61 & 63 Post sets. These never get hits and I really appreciate the help. My focus has been on the 62 Post set when I go to the shows so the 61 & 63s have been lagging behind. Being the hawk eye that he is, the Guru went after those sets so that I could shake the dust off the box when putting them in. Just as a tidbit I keep each Post set in a 400 count box with each individual card in a penny sleeve. Sometimes that is needed to hold the card together. :-) Very much appreciated Guru. I will have to start looking for deals on the 63 Posts to knock that set down from still needing 175 more cards. After waking up early because I forgot to close my curtains, I was soon treated to the arrival of Jake Elwell for a visit! Jake stopped by to grab me for a visit to a book shop I've wanted to go to a couple towns away. If your a Colorado boy, a couple towns away is like 60 miles. In MA, you can Uber two towns, so it wasn't too bad. Turns out Jake is in the book business, and I'm a book nerd...perfect match! And we both had cards... even better! Jake surprised me with a T206 Sovereign of one of the more tragic figures in pre-war baseball, Bugs Raymond. Bugs was one of John McGraw's favorites, but he was more often than not, too drunk to pitch. This was in the days of PDDs...Performance Decreasing Drugs. Bugs was a master of them, often being found in the local saloon when he should have been in the bullpen. Sadly, although he looks good in his 1909 T206 card, he was not long for this world. He looks ancient in his T205 card, and actually died as those came out... basically from a drunken brawl where he got his head caved in with a baseball bat by another guy. Anyway, to happy moments. After lunch, Jake and I found a local craftbeer shop and picked out a few fine specimens. Unfortunately, I had to operate heavy machinery tonight, so I couldn't partake wih him this afternoon. However, I am no settled in my hotel room in Myrtle Beach, with my German Rauchbier chilling on ice. An awesome day... can't wait to see Jake again! AARON SHIRLEY took notice of some new baseball listings! Like Jay Tysver, I too really love the backs of these OPC cards, and so grateful that Aaron has sent me some today! Included was 4 hits to my new 1972 OPC set, HOWEVER, all 4 are Indians players, so I will need to decide which collection they will go in. Regardless....THANK YOU! Also in the package was hits to mya few new sets....1975 and 1976 Topps Cut Out Team Checklists, and the 1980 Cramer set! Seriously!!! Awesome! I came away with newfound beer knowledge and a tip about an app with which Geno and I can keep tabs on our intake and mutual discoveries in zymurgy. Great to meet such an esteemed OBC veteran and his handshake for me was a six-pack of very crisp 59s. JEFF DELOTT surprised me with a 3-pack of 51 Bowmans. TJ VALACAK also joined the Bowman brigade with a 51 and a 52, the latter being a poignantly well-timed Joe Garagiola. JAMES MOLETA finished the Bowman mini-assault with five 52s, along with a pair of 59s and some Post Red Sox. NICK PELLETIER and I are keeping the USPS solvent with our never-ending swap -- I ended up with another fat Topps Hockey pack including a 58 Johnny Bucyk. ANT ARBEENY fired back with a 59 and a 72 high. The enclosure card has now made the trip from Rockville to Stamford four times -- and will no doubt make many more trips. Finally, PETER MEAD sent a pair of flats a few days apart -- the first was a ROAK (or return fire -- I've lost track) containing three 64s and a 71 Kellogg chip; the second was my lone NCAA win. When Xavier is your only hope you rely on a Weber State for consolation, and that's what Weber and Peter provided -- I got another 64 and a sweet 72 high # Steve Carlton TRADED, with a hole punch that looks like a train conductor's hole punch. Spent a lot of time with Taylor and OBC dealer Kurt Toudot. We had a good time rummaging thru Kurt's bargain bins. Kurt & Taylor were pulling some really obvious OBC cards (rejects from quarter box) and kept throwing them in a stack. These aren't for the faint of heart but should fit nicely into OBC. Kurt told us to share them with the group, we can't give Kurt enough credit for his generosity. So Taylor took them to run another OBC style auction. He was pondering the rules and duration and we laughed about how I got disqualified from Guru's last auction for offering to take any card from the list vs. the one card only rule. It should be interesting to see the feedback from the "winners" on Taylor's auction. If he posted scans there may be no bidders :-). I also learned that Kurt & Taylor know my list better than I do. Taylor found a 68T McAuliffe in the junk box and threws it in my stack and says "hey you need this". Then Kurt found a 62 Post Gordy Coleman SP and told me I needed it. Sure enough I And as always Taylor provides a hit to my list as he gave me a 55B umpire card of Art Gore. It is hard to believe that I am down to needing only 35 cards for my birth year set. Another awesome time guys, let watch the auction results. Can't wait for my next show in 3 weeks in Fayetteville. Thanks guys! He sent me 16 nice football cards from 1973 and 1974, many of which are =E2=9Cpack fresh=E2=9D, and which included the elusive (for me, at least) Ron Saul rookie card. KEN PILLION sends me three black beauties from 1971 Topps, all high numbers. One of the all time most appealing sets. BOB DONALDSON sends a 1972 high number along with a half dozen hits to my 1963 Topps collection. Included were the Twins team card and Don Larsen withthe Giants; on the back, it says that Larsen had a =E2=9Cno hitter=E2=9D in the 1956 Series =E2=93 I guess that is factually true. JOEL FREEDMAN tosses a 1963 Minnie Minoso in with an 8-pack of 1965 Topps, which included Ryne Duren, an almost pack fresh #565 Ernie Broglio, and what appears to be a Chris Cannizzaro autographed card. In that post, I thanked the Guru for sending over an Alworth, leaving me with "...some guy named Joe" to finish off the set. Well, Joe is here. I'm still borderline speechless, other than saying Oh My Gosh! > What started with a starter set from Stan Hack back in December of 2013, comes to a close today once I tore inside a small priority box from the GURU! Seeing a small box like that, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. My only thoughts were that there was the start to another set, or that there were a number of hits to a number of sets. Wow, was I wrong. Inside the USPSpriority box, wrapped in some bubble wrap, was the common man himself - Broadway > Guru, on top of achieving Hero status and being noted on THE list of completed sets, I want to thank you for the numerous hit s along the way. There was a time period after my transplant, which they simply call 100 days. It's a time when GVHD is most commonly surfacing in transplant patients. Guru sent me numerous hits to this 65 set during that 100 days. And when I say numerous, he probably came close to four envelopes a week. Just unreal. And every time the cardboard came, there was usually a very thoughtful and kind prayer that came with it. Thank you my friend, I really don't know what to say. > And to all other who helped along the way, thank you thank you thank you. > OBC - the unbelievable healing power of cardboard. > TJ ================= To: Date: Wed, 30 Mar 2016 23:16:15 -0400 Subject: Thanks to fellow NC boy ....
