As a result, my office furniture is once again out of the basement and I am slowly but surely unpacking all theboxes that once made up all the stuff in my office (aka =E2=93 my collection information, among other things). When this project began I started anew box of things that had arrived and as much as I wanted to send out thanks for all this great stuff the mess of the project and the constant =E2=9Csomething else I got to do=E2=99s=E2=9D just got in the way. Over this time I have received plenty of items from the generosity of this group and I would like to thank the following for items sent on: Nov 3 =E2=93 Steve Rittenberg connects with a `62 Bazooka Stomin=E2=99 Norman Cash for my HOM=E2=99er collection and a pair of `64-65 Kaumagraph Company Toy Division Iron-On Transfers of the LA Angels and the San Francisco Giants to start me on a new set. I assume that there are 20 transfers for the existing teams at the time and found some info at http://www.hakes.com/item.asp?Auction207&ItemNo115385 if anyone is interested. I think Steve sends these things out to drive us crazy with new sets to go after =E2=93 if so =E2=93 mission accomplished =E2=93 Thanks Steve!!!! Nov 8 =E2=93 Rich Niessen sends cards to elaborated on elsewhere but still greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot Rich for thinking of me!!! Nov 27 =E2=93 James Moleta slips me a `40 Playball card of =E2=9CBill=E2=9D Hershberger in beautiful OBC condition =E2=93 what a way to spend Black Friday, sending your friends vintage cardboard. Thanks so much James!!! Dec 3 =E2=93 Ken Morganti sends some dealer scum and a surprise. The T-205 items I picked up from Ken included Robert Groom, Floyd Kroh, John Lobert, Nicholas Maddox and J. Owen Wilson =E2=93 nice stuff. Ken then includes a `62 Topps stamp panel with Tony Kubek and Willie May =E2=93 WOW!!! Thanks a lot Ken!!! Dec 4 =E2=93 Richard Labs sends a nice Christmas card with a trio of `72Milton Bradley cards with Dave Marshall, Ramon Webster and Jimmy Wynn. Great stuff Richard =E2=93 I love getting Christmas cards. Dec 7 =E2=93 New Applicant to OBC Jim Craig also sends a Christmas card and encloses a `53 Bowman Large Football card of Jerry Groom in much nicer shape than most of the cards I have from that set. Thanks Jim!!! Dec 9 =E2=93 Aaron Shirley sends a baker=E2=99s dozen Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back cards just in time for the debut of the new movie. I have yet to see it but will no doubt do so before I finish collecting these sets. Thanks Aaron for send me the FORCE!!! Dec 16 =E2=93 Anthony Arbeeny takes aim at the `61 Topps Rub-off set with a trio of rub-offs (Banks, Lown & Romano) that found their way rubbed offon to clean white stock and then pasted to manila card stock. Nice addition to the collection Ant-Man =E2=93 Thanks!!! Dec 24 =E2=93 John Scott Gray finds a SCP to send my way and allows me to cross off a `34-36 Batter-up of Red Rolfe in the process. Dec 30 =E2=93 The Joe Lewis Arena is the setting for the Great Lakes Invitational Hockey Tournament and I had the pleasure of attending with Ron Perry and Mike Rich . The Tournament was won by the University of Michigan and I came out a winner with the following: from Ron I received a pair of `36National Chicle Fine Pens (Kuhel & Hartnett/Warneke), a pair of `52 Red Man variations (Porterfield & Torgeson), and a pair of `64 Bazooka Stamps (Charles & Malzone). Mike handed over a pair of `71 OPC Football cards (Strong& Schapansky) completing the set (just leaving and upgraded unmarked checklist #132 remaining) and a `65 OPC Baseball card of Wally Moon =E2=93 this leaves just (9) to complete the set. I had a great time spending the daywith my FOOT friends and look forward to the next time it will happen. The place is getting back to normal and I should be able to get some stuff together to get out into the mail. I still have plenty of filing away to doand I just finally got the want list up-to-date as I had not recorded any of these fine additions and a few eBay purchases I made over this time. Thebasement where most of the collection resides and now all my dupes is still a disaster area having served as the catch all during the renovation. Is there still time to get Christmas cards out? I may try to do this =E2=93I just found the greeting cards. I must say that I appreciate the kindnessand most importantly the patience of all those who took the time to send holiday greetings and collecting material my way. If I missed someone =E2=93 please let me know and be on the lookout for some return fire. REGARDS --------------------------- MARK ================= Date: Mon, 4 Jan 2016 12:32:16 -0500 To: Obc Tx thanks Subject: New Years Thanks, from Arbeeny to Zentkovich + Santa From: Jake Elwell Happy New Year, OBC Brethren -- I have been largely offline for two weeks having spent the Yuletide with family in Vermont and New Hampshire and then entertaining my kid brother down in Connecticut. As a result, I got woefully behind on Thanks for OBC receipts, which have been considerable, so let'sget down to business, working alphabetically - ANT ARBEENY completed a trade which netted me a 50B Pee Wee and a 65 OPC Mantle Newbie ALVIN EDWARDS surprised me with a pair of 59s, a 62, and he KILLED my Deckle set with Willie Mays! JOHN SCOTT GRAY sent a RAOK trio of 62s and a pair of 64s. JIMI THAYER sent a nice note bemoaning my now-difficult WL but managed to find a work-around via my Non Sport Type Card list -- so, Planet of the Apesare now hereby crossed off that list! MIKE MROZ went the variety-pac route, sending two 53 trim jobs, a 59, three62s, a 67 Willie Stargell and a 69 Football. BRIAN LINDHOLME contributed a bunch of 71 Footballs in answer to my Gremlinsob story. (That set has now been restored to being just two shy of completion thanks to quick work by OBC!) NICK PELLETIER waived a handful of 71 OPC Hockey (including Phil Espo), a new set I will be pursuing in 2016. (List will follow shortly and I will need many, so please holler if anyone has some to spare.) ED SCHOTT shot me a 59, two 62s and six key Burlaps for my 1968 set, which is down to the wire and targeted for completion soon in '16. Another newbie SEAN SCHUETTPELZ sent a sweet smattering of 59s. MARK ZENTKOVICH sent Mickey Lolich from 1969, another set I hope to extinguish shortly. He included a '62 to keep Mickey company. And finally, I was the lucky recipient of a Secret Santa parcel from BOB DONALDSON. When I saw the Arlington, Mass return address I knew it would be adoozie and Santa did not disappoint. The basis was a copy of my all-time favorite baseball book, the acclaimed GREAT AMERICAN BASEBALL CARD BOOK by Boyd and Harris, which I have read at least 10 times and dipped into hundreds of times. What I didn't have was a HARDCOVER and that's what Santa sent; not only that, it's a SIGNED HARDCOVER. Amazing! Typically awesome Donaldson fare rounded things out -- a YAZ assortment consisting of a DVD, a '64 coin and a Scratch-off, a '39 Play Ball of Bosox backstop John Peacock and a trio of '51 Bowmans. Thank you, Santa, and thanks to all the rest of you guys, who make every few days feel like Christmas all year 'round. Return fire will be forthcoming and if you've sent me something and I did not thank you, please let me know -- it's quite possible I've overlooked someone's generous offerings and that would be a crying shame! I have several groups of cards to try and get out this weekend, but first I need to finish sending out my thanks for some amazing cardboard! Thanks to: Joe Adriance, who may or may not have been my secret Santa! Confusion aside, he sends some great cardboard my way, including a Carlton Fisk HOF Plaque card, a Fleer Ted Williams, one of the last Goudey game cards I need (Brubaker) and a fantastic Mecca Double-Folder featuring Chief Bender! Bob Bannon sends holiday greetings, a Shane Bannon football card (name sounds familiar=85) and a 52 Bowman Mickey Vernon upgrade! Brian Betza sends a 1939 Play Ball SCP and a 51 Bowman of Eddie Waitkus =96 one of the last four I need to complete that set! Bob D=92Angelo sends a card of my wife=92s favorite player! He adds a second package later in the month that is extra Santa special, with 17 more ice hockey hits to the late 60s and early 70s (highlighted by a great Henri Richard from 73). To the great hockey cards, Bob adds greater baseball cards, with three 1949 Leaf hits (with Andy Pafko), three 1933 Goudeys (with Bing Miller), two Exhibits, a Billy Williams Rub-Off, and a 77 Twinkie=92s Larry Bowa! Jaw dropping! Randy Griffin sends along six Topps hits! Nate Mack sent two flats my way over the last few weeks =96 one contained two nice 1974 Football cards, including Lyle Alzado, the second bringing a 1956 upgrade of Joe Collins! Mike Mackie sends two Fleer Pioneers my way =96 Cy Young and Homerun Baker! Gary Mandell sends four big hits to my 1970 Topps football set, getting that list down to under a dozen! Mike Mroz sends a Fleer World Series card (the classic from 56), two 77 OPC hits, and a threesome from the 68 Topps hockey set, including Any Bathgate! Richard Robinson sends a nice mix of old pigskin cards, with two from 51 and a 59 Leo Nomellini! Jim Silva=92s flat to me was torn to shreds, but some cards still made it through! Inside were nine 70s football cards, highlighted by a 72 Gene Upshaw and a 75 Lynn Swann highlight! Also inside was a wrestling card of a guy named Super Crazy, as well as a sticker of Moe=92s Broadway Bagel from Denver, CO=85.. TJ starts with 48 cards from 1975 Topps, including Billy North, Dusty Baker, Mel Stottlemyre, Nate Colbert, and Boog Powell. Then he moves on to the 1976 Topps set with 32 cards, including Tom Seaver, Al Downing, and Mike Norris (one of the most exciting A=E2=99s rookies from my youth). On to 1978 with 102 cards including Dave Cash, The Spaceman, Frank White, and the Mad Hungarian. Next up - 99 more cards from 1979Topps, including one of my all-time favorites, Joe Rudi, Dave Parker, Ron Guidry, and Jerry Koosman. Last up in the vintage pile - a single 1980 Topps knocking the list down to one single card. Holy chopsticks, guys! This is an unbelievable haul and I am getting so much joy from looking at the cards, updating my lists, and putting them in binders! Thank you both so much! And Larry hits my mailbox for the 2nd time in a week (must have an abundance of those forever stamps and wants to use them before they expire!) This time it was one of those few remaining 1967 high numbers--a Red Sox rookie with Russ Gibson. A wonderful addition, and much needed joy on a day where things haven't gone right. We have someone putting in new garage doors (after 32 years, ours are falling apart. Somehow they manage to sever the power cord for our chest freezer, right at the plug that goes into the lid, so no real home of salvaging. I immediately called the local appliance part shop for a new one, and found there are none in Raleigh--they called everywhere. Best they could do was overnight shipping from Louisville (the garage door contractors will get the bill--way too much food in that freezer to not act immediately). But, to make matters worse, I looked at it today after work (even before opening the OBC mail), and I do not see how to get behind the compressor to where the wiring harness attaches. And, there isn't a single video on youtube about it!Anyone have any experience? I even turned the freezer over (okay lifted it up) and don't see any access from the bottom. Anyway, enough lamenting--just hoping there is a freezer repair guy in the group! Many thanks to Chris and Larry for brightening my day! ================= Date: Fri, 15 Jan 2016 00:29:33 +0000 (UTC) To: yahoogroups Subject: Thanks Recent Inbounds From: Ron Perry Thanks are in order to the following OBC guys: Mark Talbot: Two 67 OPC baseball, two 61 Topps Magic Ruboffs, and a 62 Salada coin Mike Rich: Two 56 OPC baseball including HOF'er and MSU alum Robin Roberts Larry Tipton: Two more 65 Topps tall boys football Bob Neill: Two 62 Post Canadian baseball including local favorite Bob Buhl Greg Miller: : A cool seven Detroit Tigers including two cards of Frank Larry Over the last few weeks I've verified quite a few sets, added a few new sets including 68/69 Topps Hockey and 1976 Funky Facts baseball. From: chris tripler Figured it would be a slow day after federal holiday, but boy was I wrong. And might I add, I really, REALLY appreciate the packages. Being trapped ina house with a newborn and a wife who is looking for things for me to fillup the time, being able to escape to look at cardboard has been a great outlet, so gentlemen...thank you to all of OBC nation! (I go back to work next week, so I think things will settle into routine again...) Where to begin: The first package came across the USA from LA. Mr. SEAN "the newer new guy" SCHUETTPELZ sent along some nice '63Ts, slowly moving thatset along. We had #48 Birdie Tibbetts MG, who was traded to the local boysof Boston in 1947, where he compiled a nice .270 batting average, and #216Gene Conley a Red Sox pitcher (I'm sensing a theme). Mr. SCHUETTPELZ, thank you - a welcomed addition! Next, PETER MEAD hits the '64T set liked he owns it with 13 Including #12 Stuart-Kaline-Killebrew AL RBI LDRS, 112 Bob Tillman, 113 Grover Powell, 201 Orioles RC stars Bowens/Bunker, 203 John Kennedy, 291 Phil Ortega (from Mesa, AZ), 337 Dodgers RC stars Ferrera/Torborg, 340 Joe Cunningham, 366 Nelson Mathews, and a couple of nice semi-hi's #s 475 Ed Charles, Ed Rakow, 497 Joeff Long, and 503 Earl Wilson. Very nice, Mr. MEAD, thank you very Mr. MIKE GALBREATH sends a '60T nickel pack of cards (that's right, six cards)...#106 Billy Gardner, who's hometown of New London, CT is where I was born (cool), 276 Ken McBride, 288 Bob Mabe, a Baltimore Orioles pitcher fromDanville, VA, where I learned professional tree climbing back in 2008 -great little town, awesome music!, #290 Jerry Lumpe, 297 Reno Bertoia, which is the first time I have ever read or heard someone named "Reno", 328 Earl Battey...Cards are not acceptable OBC/Tipton condition...way too nice for that designation, he must have confused me with someone else...none-the-less,thank you Mr. GALBREATH, very much appreciated! Picked up a WAIVER WIRE Claim from Andy Cook, '51T Red Back #48 Eddie Stanky. These are so nice to get just to admire where cards have come and where they are today...certainly, kids were interactive with the items of their hobby...I'm sure tons have been written about it... Last, but definitely not last, GREG HENTHORN, with whom I've been having a tremendous back and forth punching mack-truck size holes in each others want lists, was at it again...and this time what a dousy...GREG hits the '54T list with #242 Benjamin Roberts, '55B #117 Johnny Groth (from the other Sox), '59T Bob Purkey, a pretty serious journeyman..., '60T #s 17 Johnny Callison, 77 Hank Foiles, 188 Dick Williams, 212 Walt Alston MG, 335Red Schoendienst!!!, (never realized that they recorded heights with a colon on these cards, Red is 6:00?), 419 George Crowe, 456 Red Sox Coaching Staff, 468 St. Louis Cards Coaching Staff, and 490 Frank Robinson!!!, who up to thattime was holding a life-time batting avg. of .299, nice); and to round things off three '67Ts #162, and a couple of semi-hi/DPs in #502 Derrell Griffith & #582 Jim Owens. Getting harder and harder to match play, but we'll see what I can do...Thank you so much GREG! Good times here at the OBC. The T212 OBAK set is so cool, although I think I will avoid the rare and costly 1909 for now.
I have typed up my WL for the 1910 (and posted online) and have gathered all of my 1911 holdings into a binder with the 15 pocket pages by team. I love the way these cards look even in lower grades like mine.
Andy apparently got wind of this quest and decided to mail me one from the unpublished 1911 wantlist!
Seattle players are premium out here in Washington , and now I have another...with the ironic name of Weed! Listed as one of the best all around players in the Northwest League, I will read some more about him as soon as I can, and post my wantlist too!
Thank you Andy  this is a major hit!

Brian

(Bessette, Smart, Shepard, Schuettpelz, Dingman, and Henthorn hits) From: James Silva I have been in San Diego for the last week and a half helping out a buddy who lost his dad. His dad was a WWII radio operator in Europe so I attended my second funeral in a military cemetery. The one in San Diego looks remarkably like the one near Sacramento - I guess that should be a surprise. I was also impressed with the way that the staff and soldiers handled their duties and the way they treated my friend=E2=99s mom. I get back to a stack of envelopes and packages that my wife set out on thecounter. What a welcome home! Greg Henthorn hits 6 different want lists! Singles from =E2=9961 and =E2=9966 Topps, 56 cards from =E2=9975 Topps, including Frank Robinson and Fergie Jenkins, 43 cards from =E2=9976 Topps, including Michael Jack Schmidt, 4 =E2=9978 Topps, and a single from =E2=9979 Topps. Amazing package, Greg! Thanks! Rob Bessette 6 different sets also! A single from =E2=9970 with super sharp corners and a high number, another single - this from =E2=9971 Toppsof Walt Alston. 3 cards in from the =E2=9975 Topps set, including Fergie Jenkins. Another single from =E2=9976 of All-Time great Pie Traynor. The =E2=9978 Topps card of Dave Winfield - got to see him play a little bit with the Padres. Finally, a pair of =E279s - Bob Welch and Gary Carter. Great cards, Rob - thank you! Sean Schuettpelz sends a pair of =E2=9975 Topps, including Mickey Riverswho the season before had racked up 11 Triples - pretty impressive speed number - Mickey didn=E2=99t have a lot of pop. Thanks so much, Sean! Richard Dingman knocks 5 sets! A =E2=9961 Topps, a =E2=9970 Topps, a high number from =E2=9971 Topps, a pair of =E2=9976 Topps, including Steve Rogers and Ted Simmons - that would make a pretty good battery! Also a =E2=9978 Topps of Gene barber who had quite the rubber arm pitching in194 in the three seasons from =E2=9975 through =E2=9977. Thanks, Richard! Wes Shepard hits two lists, including a =E2=9951 RedBack of Henry Thompson (that set rarely gets hit even by me!) and a pair of high number =E2=9971 Topps cards - both pretty high numbers, including Rick Wise. Thanks for sending them my way, Wes! Shawn Smart will receive two email thanks because of his split package - vintage and unmentionable cards - from 4 sets. 8 =E2=9978 Topps including Sparky Lyle, and 5 =E2=9979 Topps also including Sparky Lyle, make up the vintage offerings. According to Goudey's card back, Conquering Bear sided with the Confederates during the Civil War and tried to betray the North as a sort of double agent, feeding bad info on potential attacks. According to available modern sources, the name "Conquering Bear" is only known as an assigned leader of a part of the Sioux nation, with no special connection to betrayals, Civil War or otherwise. I can guess Goudey either swapped names with someone else or relied on a 1930s history that gave malicious intent to a lot of former opponents of US expansion.
