Back in the beginning of OBC, late 1991 1992 I was living in Oklahoma, and every now and then Bob would send me a 600 count box stuffed with old baseball cards! I would call them the good old days, but this puffy is pretty sweet! Bob sends six 1967 Topps insert posters Yaz, Mays, Frank Robinson, Boog Powell, Santo, Joe Morgan! They are really neat and the best thing about these, some have tape where they were secured to some kids bedroom wall:) They really look nice. Bob sends his regrets that he couldn't finish my set (need Clemente) and to compensate he includes a 1964 Topps coin Warren Spahn! A lot has changed since 1991, but not everything. It's still a thrill when you get un-announced mail. And it's still great to have friends and tradingbuddies like Bob and all my other OBC pals. Sorry for the delay gentlemen. It has been a rough month for my family health wise. Nothing serious. Just one thing after another. By the way ... I learned some valuable lessons about shoveling snow last month: 1) Snow in March is much wetter/heavier than Nov-Feb. 2) If you are left-handed (like me) and you think you are having a heart attack from shoveling ... it may not be your heart but you may have strained the muscles in your left breast-plate ... which mimics a heart attack to some degree .... particularly if you are over 50 years old like me :-) Anyway ... after spending a day in the ER and then two nights in the hospital having two days of extensive heart tests ... all of the specialists saidmy heart is fine ... but didn't seem to have a clue what was causing the discomfort. After seeing my primary care physician a few days later ... she diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes (strained muscles in my left breast plate). What a relief. At least now I know what was causing the pain! On the down side ... I was diagnosed with diabetes while in the hospital ... so I'm learning to be diabetic. Oops ... didn't mean to ramble. Back to my thank you's Guru who sent me two SCP's ... each a 65T FB tall boy Jim Otto of the Raiders and Sam Deluca of the Jets! And yes Guru ... my Dad took me to see a Raiders game against the Dolphins at the Oakland Coliseum around 1967/68 (I have the game program somewhere) and my Dad told me at the game that Jim Ottowas the best center in football. It was news to me. Up to that point I thought off linemen as mostly big fat guys blocking for the flashier quarterbacks and running backs. Anyway ... that day I learned that football games were really won on the offensive and defensive line. So Guru ... thanks so much for the Otto card (and Deluca). Brings back a lot of great memories! John Leroux sends me a 6 pack of 62T's (including Giant Matty Alou ... and some more semi high #'s) and 65T's (including a great hitting coach CharlieLau).Thank you John for the great cards ... much appreciated! And again ... sorry for the late thanks! I am way behind in sending return fire, but will do my best the next few weeks. Thanks OBC!!! If you take away second sets and variations, my list is only seven or eight cards. So when Larry Tipton had a waiver wire with a football starter lot for a set that wasn't in my collection, I had to jump on it. I'm now the proud owner of fourteen new (to me) 1954 Bowman football cards: 2 15 27 31 33 36 51 59 63 101 109 110 115 and 121. I need the rest if anyone else has a few they'd like to get rid of. The Blanda RC is in this set I believe. I had a tipton mint one at one time (Kevin Savage had it for $5, so I couldn't pass it up), but I sent it away to a Raider fan I knew. It looked like it had been in someone's back pocket for 40 years. When he got it, he told me he wanted to be buried with it, so I'm not going to ask him if he still wants it. I'll add the set to my list as soon as I get around to switching my soon to be defunct 'MyEbay' page... whenever that is. Hopefully sometime soon. Anyway, I got off on a tangent there... that's so unlike me. THANKS GURU!! Always nice to get OBC mail. Jake Elwell sends Eddie Robinson in a 1953 Red Man card, a Fleer football immortal of Dutch Clark, and a 1971 Topps football game card marker - all great additions. TJ Valacak kills off my T218 (front) fighter needs with Mike Twin Sullivan and Tommy O'Keefe. Also in the envelope are three checklist variations for 1974 football team checklists and 6 of the Globetrotter cards I need. Great Day. And thanks much guys.
