It was forwarded from our Overland Park address, which is now someone else's Overland Park address, to a PO Box we got here and it was a great two-fer from Wes Shepard. Two great 55 Topps cards, both Cardinals, both of which are Tiptonesque in their beauty including a perfect Alex Grammas card with much of the back paper gone. You know it is pushing Tipton Mint status when you have to include the card number on a separate sticker or it must be written in on the side because the original number is no longer Thanks Wes! My wife and dog are now here (yes!) and we are staying in a furnished 2 bedroom apartment. All our belongings that didn't fit in our two vehicles are in storage. We have a contract on a great house and are hoping to move in by June 1. We won't be able to close that quickly but it is empty and we are trying to work with the seller to take early occupancy. Unfortunately we don't have this current place past June 1 so it is a bit nerve wracking. All our paperwork got boxed and stored so the bank is struggling with us not being able to produce some of the details they want for the loan. It will all get sorted out but it has been a long process so far. We were fortunate to sell our old house real quickly for a good price but there were several last minute snags to closing that extended that significantly and cause much stomach acid, especially for my poor wife back in KC trying to sort through it all. Nonetheless, things are going to be settled pretty soon. For now the address we have is PO BOx 15492, Asheville, NC 28813. I am pretty sure there isn't a card shop any closer than Charlotte, about 2 hours away. I did find some cards in boxes at some of the local flea market type establishments but you couldn't get to them without asking for help and they all looked marked close to book (do they ever sell cards at those places?). Once I get everything in our new place I have a bunch of NCAA pay outs to make and a lot of other paybacks to make, and I look forward to it! ================= Date: Sun, 5 May 2013 10:37:43 -0400 To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com From: Andy Huntoon Subject: Many Thanks... I received a couple nice envelopes in the mail a few days ago. ANDY COOK sends out a waiver wire of 2 1966 Topps Rub-Offs. These are great because a kid long ago actually applied them to some notebook paper and cut them out so they are little cards now. Thank you so much Andy for JD comes through on his end of a great trade by hitting me with 14 1954 Topps, 20 1954 Bowmans, 3 1970 Topps, 4 1965 Topps, 46 1967 Topps, and 3 1966 Topps. Many great dealers were there (Marc Macrae, Paul Marko, Andy Madec, Marty, etc) with a heavy emphasis on vintage (including off-grade!)...I spent most of my money in the first 30 minutes. I had the pleasure of meeting Gary Beard as well. Gary handed me an envelope that I did not manage to open until I got home. Inside was a needed '53 Topps high number in rather nice condition. Thanks so much Gary. I also think Gary got a deal at the table I was sitting at when he scored 5 rather nice '54 Red Hearts. Same table netted me 8 '48 Swells I needed. I think I am down to the tougher ones now. Great prices! I also picked up two tough York Caramel cards, 50 cards at the "6 for a $1 table" including some '60s and '70s and oddballs. John Stamper was there aswell and I think he found a 3200 count box of vintage at that table too! Found a couple of t205s, w572, e121, 4 obaks, and a diamond star. Largest stack from a show since the national 10 years ago. Mr. Fitts sends me a waiver wire 1961 team card of my Yankees. All great cards and much appreciated. I remember back in my childhood days the thrill of waiting until the next card series was released by topps and made it out to the boonies in Iowa where I grew up. The OBC experience brings many memories back. Back then bothleagues had 8 teams and we fans could name all the starters and the pitchers for each team. The Phillies were pretty bad but they had Robin Roberts who was one of the best pitchers in the majors. Don't see a whole lot of players named "Smoky" these days.
