Oddly enough I remember looking thru the 70T binder at Uncle Dick=E2=99s table and looking at the very cards JD sent. Taylor Schock and I met at the Raleigh show again and he shared a hand fullof 55T & 58T. As always we had a lot of fun going thru Uncle Dick DeCourcy=E2=99s discount boxes and binders. I learned something helping Taylor find a 68T Joe Sparma (which we left without). I did not know the 68 Sparma carried a premium price because he was a member of the 68 Tigers. We are talking >$10 for a Sparma card. does that sound right? Thanks JD. Great seeing you Taylor. Looking forward to the May show. My friends, In June of 2001, I made my first foray into online card tradingby joining Dan Austin and the good people at Vintage Card Traders. A few months later, I joined Len Medeiros and Old Card Traders, and quickly became obsessed with the trading point system that Len uses to try and spur on trading. I have earned over 2,000 trader points through OCT alone over the last ten years. Then I was informed of OBC, and quickly found the friendship and cardboard fellowship in Old Baseball Cards to be a highlight of the trading experience -- I look forward to catching up with old friends at theannual swap meet at the National in Chicago in a couple of months. Lastly, I joined the young upstart Dugout Traders, and there I found a great mix of people collecting nearly everything cardboard under the sun! I give thisbrief history as introduction to a major cardboard milestone that I achieved last week. I am working on a run of vintage Bowman and Topps runs (a goal that I know many of us share). When I first started keeping track of the Topps run, in May of 2002, I needed 3,830 cards to complete it. I only had three 1952 Topps cards, and had nearly no cards in the 1967 set. I was missing over 20% of the run to 1980! Bowman was so far off my radar that Idid not start keeping track of that run until 2004, when my first tally showed me needing 793 cards. Last week saw seven hits to my Bowman run come in the mail from trading partners in all four groups, bringing that total to113 cards (mostly in 1949). I only need 85 Topps cards to complete that base set run (mostly 1952 high numbers, of course!) That means that I am now under 200 cards to complete the mission! Thanks are due to all the wonderful traders that have helped to get my wantlists from thousands to dozens. I appreciate your support, your knowledge, and your friendship. If there were cookies and donuts along the way I may have been a bit more motivated;)
I hurried my way to 3rd place in my age bracket. A snowman christmas tree ornament is my permanent memento of the event)
I think there were only two of us aged 50-54, The guy who won our bracket was so far ahead of me I think they gave him second place too ;)

Probably both! At any rate, recently I while perusing Jake Elwell's want list I noted that among his favorite players wantlists was Eldon Auker. Well, this caught my eye because not onlywas Eldon a Tiger at one time he alsoowned a lot of property here in Grand Blanc, MI. In, fact he developed a number of housing complexes here in the area one of which we lived in prior to purchasing our house. Itis not unusual to see an Auker& Associatesvehiclein and around the Grand and Flint area. When I contacted Jake to let him know of this connection he responded by telling me that Eldon was a family friend. Jake attached a photo of a baseball signed Eldon when he was 8 months old (Jake not Eldon).Jakealso wrote:"Since a Tiger fan I'm going to take the liberty of sending you a book that I helped germinate in my day job as a literary agent. Bob D'Angelo gave it a nice review on his blog, so you can see what it's all about. George Vrecheck also read and liked it and I hope you will too." Yet Lynn has repeatedly supplied cards to drive down my want lists. This last envelope had a note in it asking if I was collecting anything otherthan Cardinals. Rest assured, it is greatly appreciated. The healing power of cardboard strikes again. In order of tardiness: Jason Christopherson - a pair of hits to the '68 baseball list, including the White Sox team card and World Series Game 2 highlights featuring Yaz. Bill Malson - '73 football SCP of Herb Adderley and an Isaly's Disc of the Mad Hungarian. Jason and Bill, please excuse my extreme lateness in acknowledging your envelopes. Family crises or not, there isn't much excuse for not letting you know I received your mailings. As I said earlier, I got an envelope from Jake yesterday, which contained three hits to the '73 football list, plus a hit to the Team Card subset project - 1976 Twins. Thank you, gentlemen - it's always a great pleasure to open mail with old cardboard in it. ================= Date: Sat, 20 Apr 2013 19:08:50 -0700 (PDT) To: Thanks OBC From: John Stamper Subject: Thanks go out to Andy Huntoon Andy sends a nice 51 Bowman Bob Feller. I know that Dave and I go waaaay back and even though we rarely see each other anymore that's going to change in June if I can get a pass from the warden...err wife! The Seattle Card show is calling!! Thank you Dave!!!! Next up is Andy Huntoon, who notices how close I am to finishing the 65T set and mails an awesome Phillie (Ray Culp). The Giants (Davis, Ward, Brinkman, Gonzalez and Pappas) will be passed along to fellow UK based collector Andy Bates, but the Stand Upgoes straight into my own binder. It's the second one I've added in the past couple weeks after a long drought. Thanks John!! My second thank you goes out to Bill Ashton, who sends along my latest box of goodies for ebay. Jerry Coker ================= Date: Tue, 30 Apr 2013 16:08:07 -0400 To: Obc Tx thanks From: Jake Elwell Subject: Thanks x 4 Great start of the week yesterday thanks to four great OBCers. JERRY COKER sends a SCP 71 FB Marty Schottenheimer, MARK TALBOT hits four 72-73 Hockey and four 69 Topps including a very young Bob Bailey (the photo was already three years old when the card came out -- Bob's shown in a Pirates uni but his last season in Pittsburgh was '66. It's a sharp contrast to the larger and slower Beetle Bailey that we got in Boston a decade later). GARY BEARD sends more waiver offerings -- two 68 burlaps, a 69 Lonborg and a 70 Aparicio. Finally BOB DONALDSON returns fire and completes an amazing trade (amazing for me, anyway), sending a pair of 1970s for my new OPC Bruins set (Johnny McKenzie and Bobby Orr AS), a 72-73 puck, nine 61 Fleer Greats, and a rare hit to my 71 Arco set in the form of Billy Conigliaro. Bob tops it off with bonus offerings of a 71 Yaz Arco and a 1970 Hank Aaron! High fives allaround, guys, for an awesome day. OBC is the best! --Jake
