I have been trading (okay, mainly receiving) with a person a few have you have also had dealings with--Dave May. Yesterday he sent me a box with the final 5 superballs I needed to complete, yes complete, the ChemToy superballset. Not only did he knock the remaining balls off my list, but he added one I didn't have on my list, because I considered it nigh on to unattainable--the red Clemente (for those not collecting the bouncing bundles of joy, no, it is not the communist version of Roberto Clemente). For some reason Chemtoy used blue backs for all the NL players and red backs for the AL players. But, some of the Clemente's also have a red back. I started this set in 1970 when my mom brought home a half dozen of them she picked up in a department store on a shopping trip to center city Philly. 10 cents each! I've picked up some over the years, and a few of you guys started collecting them also and we've made some trades. Mike Rich has been a big help, but I still never expected to finish the set. But, now for the first time since I had a want list, there is no Chemtoy section. Now, I need a way to display 285 A word about Dave May. He contacted me from my wantlist and truly has the OBC spirit, in spades. I've tried, and am still trying, to find things for him, but his attitude has always been "don't worry about it". Included was the Dodgers' Sweet Lou Johnson, who filled in for the injured T Davis in 1965 and went on to star in the 1965 World Series, including connecting for what would prove to be a game winning home run in Game 7. George V recently found a bunch of 58's that were a little crisp. The 2013 Vrechek Fire Find.I had the pleasure of receiving some from George and once they were in my hands, I thought of Guru's sewer find. I had to get a couple graded. Always interesting to read the backs of those "pre-stat grid" sets. Heving's says this: "Boston's Red Sox made a good buy when they brought Joe Heving back to the majors two years ago. Heving, who had been in and out of the majors since 1930, won 11 and dropped but three for the Red Sox last year, appearing in 46 games. His record shows a better than .500 average against every club in the League except the Yankees, against whom he shows neither losses nor Thanks to WWII, Heving pitched effectively until the age of 44. He led the AL in appearances (63) for Cleveland in 1944, posted an amazing 1.96 ERA, and then tossed only 3 more games in his career, as the players started to return from war. Supplies! Supplies! Met up with Mark Holland at the Raleigh show today for some card-raderie and bargain hunting. Mark told me he was bringing me a few binders and some pages, but I wasn't expecting a HUGE stack of pages and TWO garbage bags full of binders! I guess I need to find more cards to fill them. Not the best local show as most of the vintage purchases were confined to Uncle Dick's table (not necessarily a bad thing), but at least I was able toget some hits there as well as pick up some hits to send out for my NCAA losses. Taylor Schock and I met at the Raleigh show again and he shared a hand fullof 55T & 58T. As always we had a lot of fun going thru Uncle Dick DeCourcy=E2=99s discount boxes and binders. I learned something helping Taylor find a 68T Joe Sparma (which we left without). I did not know the 68 Sparma carried a premium price because he was a member of the 68 Tigers.
