Today the package in the plain brown wrapper was from Ant-man and it was actually a Macy's bag turned upside down to cover a flat rate box so it could be shipped at 1/2 the rate of a priority package. Inside the box was a group of "dealer scum" that I was waiting to get as Ant-man brokered me a deal that netted me a near set of Davy Crockett GREEN BACKS, a SCP Orange back I needed and (5) Zorro cards that I needed (as well as a "tipton-mint" #1 Zorro card the Ant threw in cause i needed it). In all Ant got me a deal for (70) of the (80) card set - WOW!!! These are in nice shape as well for little money, it's nice to look at most of the set in a single sitting. Had they won, Mr. Peoples might not have been as welcome! . Jake, thanks so much for the great old cardboard! Today's mail brought another nice surprise from one of our new members, Mike Jackson. Along with another nice note, Mike went QB crazy on me: '73s of Manning, Stabler and Bradshaw, and a '76 of Theismann. 1976 football was the first wax I ever opened as a yute, so they are always a joy to receive. As an aside, does anyone remember seeing the Joe Theismann Pencil Sharpener on the Dave Letterman Show not long after he suffered that horrific injury? The sharpener featured a cutout of Theismann, and the crank simulated his broken leg. I couldn't help but laugh - it was pretty funny. Many thanks to Marshall! TJ Valacak sent a great envelope as well...3 hits to my 1951 Bowman set and a 52 T Sam Mele. These are awesome additions! Gersh is next up, and the 52 topps card included is Paul Richards, longtime baseball man as player, coach, manager, executive and scout. Thanks Gersh! Very nice! John Stamper fills holes in binders that don't have many open slots...1969 and 1971. Including D.Johnson who is shown as Dave on his black beauty card. At 70 years old, he's now known better by Davey! Thank you John! Geno continues the 52t haul with Sheldon Jones. Beware another pun...I'm glad that Sheldon was "Available"!!!!! Thanks Geno, very nice card! Mark Talbot sends 1971 Topps Football. Long time OBCers know these cards as Toad Treasures! I will be adding these to one of many sets. While I have binders set up for 14 sets, I have plenty more that can keep this going indefinitely! Thank you for the treasure, Mark!! The last envelope I opened yesterday was from OBC Veteran Spike. All I can say here is wow, as the sticky note claimed that I have been "Spiked". A 1956 Harvey Kuenn in typical OBC condition was accompanied by 1954 Whitey Ford!!! This HOFer deserves a place in the Guru grading HOF. I absolutely love it. When seen through OBC glasses, there are no flaws. When see through ordinary glasses, every flaw imaginable is evident. Being Spiked is great! I am overwhelmed and excited to add these cards. Crossing off my WL always allows for a review of all the other cards in my pretty large collection. I can't say it enough... I rarely claim items off the waiver wire but when another First Year OBC Rookie offered up someBecketts I just couldn't be comfortable thinking about Tiger pics destined for the dreaded recycle bin so I requested any books featuring Tiger. So a grateful Thanks goes out to Taylor Schock for a book cover featuring The Georgia Peach and a cover and 2 complete books featuring Prince's old man Cecil! A thirdbook was from June of 1988 featuring Matt Nokes that sent me on a trip down memory lane. I remember this particular book because it was a favorite of my then 7 year old son who was a huge MattNokes fan.As he grew older his loveofall things Tigerstook a back seat toall things Red Wings and Matt was history. Turns out I could only have half of it. Thanks a ton to these folks for sending winnings and making them great winnings: Larry Tipton's envelope was the first I got and I received some old Baseball cards. From 1954 Jim Lemon and from 1955 Camilo Pasqual Dale Long and Fred Marsh. Thanks Guru. A great way to start my envelope extravaganza. Peter Mead's cards were next and he also sent some great stuff. A 1963 Salada coin of Felipe Alou and a 1965 Old London coin of Orlando Cepeda. Two things for 2 of my favorite players collection. He also gave me a 1962 Postof Bill Mazeroski which was cool. If I picked one more favorite player to collect it would probably be Mazeroski Thanks Peter. John Stamper sent Giants cards. Always great to get Giants cards. John gave me cards from 1970 of Russ Gibson Juan Marichal, Juan Marichal All Star and Juan Marichal on a pitching leader card. Thanks a lot John for more Giants. I really appreciate them. First day, real old cards, favorite cool odd stuff and Giants. Thanks Next day I received these From Geno Wagner a good looking newer card of Mel Ott who I once named a dog after.(got hit by a car ironically). Geno also gave me a 1959 of Dick Donovan. Thanks Geno for the new and the old. Mark Talbot sent a Hometown Heroes Ballot which I never have seen before. That was neat. Mark also gave me a bunch of football cards. 5 from 1970 and 1 from 1971. Very nice to get football cards for a football pool. Thanks Chuck Salek sent 7 cards older than me. 1957 Jim Bolger Preston Ward and aTigers Tm card. From 1958 a Indians team card and Virgil Trucks. Virgil is the uncle of Butch Trucks, a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band.(it did not say that on the back of his card, I just knew it.)And Chuck also gave me a 1959 Ed Bailey and Willie Jones. Thank you Chuck. Marshall West gave me all Giants newer stuff. It was very fun to go through. 14 cards in all. It completed 4 Giants sets as many were from insert sets that have only 1 or 2 giants in them. That was great Marshall, Thank you. Spike Glidden spiked me with a couple of 1972 OPC of Giants Don Carithers and Jerry Johnson. Also included were 1961 Posts of Billy Klaus and Pete Burnside. Thank you Spike. I do not have many from these sets. Next day Larry Gersbach's envelope arrived with another set I have very fewof, 1963 Post. Then there were 12 1961's, including Jim Lemon, a wonderful Dodgers Team card, and Ed Bouchee. When I was about 8 years old, the scuttlebutt in the neighborhood (from an older boy) was that Bouchee could get a hit whenever hewanted, and would surpass Stan Musial as a hitter.
