I wrote him tellling him I had received them but cant for the life of me find that I properly thanked him. Life got in the way--Last week my wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. Well my granddaughter hit me with something this weekend and I couldn't help but think I want to do this also. She turned 7 on Saturday and like all little kids she had a birthday party for her little friends and family. What was different was what she asked for. On her invitation she asked that if they brought presents that she was going to donate them to their church so the kids that dont have presents would be able able to get something on their birthdays. So I am going to to do that also while These cards would look nice in my binders, I dont need them as some one else might need them and I going to donate them to Terry's auction and what i get out of it ---is getting back into the spirit of giving which has been missing if you read my ramble this morring. Life got in the way. Since I got back from my trip Thursday I have work 16, 8, 8, and 16 hours. While this is no excuse for my bad manners of not thanking people it took a 7 year old to get my priority back in order. i am in the process of paying off my NCAA debts. And Madlock did the unimaginable - put a Cub on an NL Leaders card!I was too young to watch Banks and Williams, so Madlock was the first great "star" I ever watched for the Cubbies. To top off the package, TJ includes an autographed Jody Davis card - sweet!! I used to love hearing a drunk Harry Caray sing the various iterationsof Jody Davis songs. It seemed like every time Davis came up with basesloaded or two men on, he hit one onto Waveland - loved him! Leon Durhamon the other hand, always seemed to have 25 home runs and 27 RBIs. One of my favorite Harry Caray memories was when Davis, Durham, and Cey were onbase, with Gary Mathews at the dish. Yesterday I received a package from Steve that included 2 of the last 4 Batter-Up low #s I needed, including Hack Wilson and 45 1940 Playballs, highlighted by Walter Johnson, Moe Berg and a high number. That gets me down to 55 to complete the 40 Playball base set and 80 for all the Playball base sets. Since all 3years have variations of virtually every card, I will be working on finishing the base sets and then the master sets for years. I had a great time talking to these gents and getting some beat up cardboard, oddball rarities and even finished my 1953 Bowman B&W set (second birth year set bites the dust!) I get home to find that LYNN MILLER has not only sent along the several cards I won from him (47, 51, 52, 55) - but also sends along a Gray Back 56 from my list and a 72 High Number! First KENT GOTO sends along my old and newer winnings - a couple of Kelloggs cards - Soon to be Dodger Rick Monday and Dodger Davy Lopes - then another 1953 birth year card - Johnson's Cookies of Ebba St Clair. Lovely Next I get an envelope from Canada that was blessed by Pico the horse but put together by Mr. RAINSLEY - a dozen 1972 Topps for my All OBC Set! Righton the money and so great to get such rapid delivery from my brother's postal service up north. Then I see JOSHUA LEVINE at a card show in Glendale and he hands over a 1961 Matty card I bid for - and also a bonus of a traded 1971 OPC Dodger - I love the color and look of the backs of those cards! I also met Mark McCraeand Roger Neufield at this show (I hope spelling was close...) I had a great time talking to these gents and getting some beat up cardboard, oddball rarities and even finished my 1953 Bowman B&W set (second birth year set bites the dust!) On top of that Josh springs for lunch! I get home to find that LYNN MILLER has not only sent along the several cards I won from him (47, 51, 52, 55) - but also sends along a Gray Back 56 from my list and a 72 High Number! I love that - you bid and get what you bid for and then get extras!!! The next day my 1972 Ryan card comes from ANDY COOK and it is just like he said - it looks much better than his description. I love it! And it is a much needed key to the All OBC set...! I am so THANKFUL for those of you who donated cards. It was a lot of fun for me to bid and especially meaningful because of Terry and the blessing wewill give some child in his honor! This is the most card activity I have had in years! You guys are great! OK - I will leave it for now and sort through my new cards one more time!!! What I learned from the back of these cards is that Carl Erskine hurled a no-hitter in 1952 against the Cardinals and that his W-L pct of .700 was near the tops in the league! Also, Harvey Haddix, of near perfect game claim, was just 5'9". 56T Laurin Pepper rounded out the trio.
