Ironically, I just attended one of my submarine's reunion this weekend in Las Vegas. I was the host for the 3 day reunion held in a local hotel/casino. I served on the USS Grayback (SS574) from 1978 to 1981 and it was by far the best tour I had in the Navy. We had 159 shipmates (who spanned the life of the Grayback from 1958 to 1984) and family members attend. Wasreally terrific to see old friends I haven't seen in 30+ years, some of whom I have kept in touch with over the years and others with whom it was funreminiscing with. Kind of like OBC. Even more impressive, Vic only stole 3 bases total that season. Here's the story, courtesy http://www.theclevelandfan.com/cleveland-indians/5-indians-archive/8496-blast-from-the-past-vic-power-all-time-tribe-first-baseman "A quintessential Vic Power moment came on August 14, 1958. He stole home in the eighth inning against a deliberate Detroit Tigers pitcher, who had a slow windup. Then in the tenth inning, Power was on third base again. The bases were loaded with the score tied. Rocky Colavito had homered twice in the game, and was at the plate with two out. On each of the first three pitches, Power faked a break for the plate. On the fourth pitch, he kept running and beat the tag by catcher Charley Lau for the Tribe win. Two steals of home to win the game- and Power ended up with only three steals on the season!" The "slow windup" pitcher in the 8th was Bill Fischer and Power victimized Frank "Taters" Lary in the 10th. Power went on to run more often in later years with mixed success, even "leading" the AL in caught stealing (13) in http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/powervi01.shtml Thanks, Brad! ================= Date: Mon, 29 Oct 2012 11:05:37 -0700 (PDT) To: obc thanks From: Dan Angland Subject: Griff strikes Hurricane thanks to Randy Griffin for a 4 pack including a 52, two 54's anda Thanks Randy, much appreciated.
