There are three '75 Yankees -- Graig Nettles, Fred "Chicken" Stanley and the team/manager Bill Virden card, all in very nice condition. Next comes a '79 hit, Willie Norwood. He's a former Twin who was awarded the starting center field job when Lyman Bostock became a free agent and left. Willie was supposed to be a defensive whiz, but he couldn't catch. It got so bad he actually burned his glove and got a new one in a strange locker room ceremony. Hence, a former fantasy baseball league I was involved with became the Willie Norwood Burnt Glove League. Then, there are 55 '69 hits. Highlights include: Jim Bunning, Rusty Staub, Mel Stottlemyre and Walt Alston. Thank you, Lynn. And Happy New Year everyone. For me, 2010 will be partially remembered as the year I joined this wonderful club called OBC. Hi all... We just returned from a wonderful Christmas trip out to my wife's family inFrederick, Maryland and to my brother's new house just outside of Akron, Ohio. It was a long drive, but very worthwhile and we somehow managed to miss all of the bad weather during our trip! I retrieved our mail from the post office today and had two terrific packages from my OBC friends. Mike Rumsley-Wells sent a '67 Curt Simmons and one of the 15 cards needed to finish my '73 Topps set -- Dave Concepcion! He also added a nice note, written on the back of a pull-off daily calendar sporting one of the funniestZits cartoons I've seen in a long, long while. Thanks a ton, Mike for the cards, note and laughs! Linda Fitak continues her relentless attack on my wantlists, sending an awesome assortment of new and vintage cards. Pre-'80 baseball cards included astunning 1949 Eureka stamp of my HOMer, Puddin' Head Jones! The stamp is in *perfect* condition... absolutely perfect!! I think I might have to scan this one and use it to spice up my webpage. Linda also included a 1960 Topps double-updated card of Moe Drabowsky. I've had lots of cards that have old team names crossed out with the new team nicely annotated in ballpoint pen, but I think this is the first I've had where the original update, notinghis transition from the Cubs to the Milwaukee Braves, was also crossed outand "Balt." was penned below. Somehow, his years with the Reds and the A'swere not documented. Other vintage highlights included a pair of '67 Phillies (Lock and Buhl) and a '71 black beauty of Ted Sizemore. Always mindful of my other baseball favorites, Linda tossed in neat newer cards of ChristyMathewson and Harmon Killebrew. I just read that Harmon has been diagnosedwith esophageal cancer and is just starting treatments... scares the dickens out of me. Linda rounds out the package with a Target Dodgers card of Joe Pignatano and some fantastic nonsport cards from the US & Germany. Even the stamps on the outside of the envelope were special... a terrific 44 centNegro League baseball stamp and a very old 2 cent stamp of John Phillip Sousa! The first package was from John Gray. John found some amazing cards. He started with 13 49 Bowmans and followed this with 5 1950 Bowmans a single 49 Bowman, a couple of 53 Bowman black and whites and a few 51's and 52's. These weren't just any hits buts included the likes of Erskine and Berra. The next package was Anthony Arbeeny. Ant decided to go after some of the major holes that I have on my OPC lists. He knocked off 29 66 OPC's (including Rose), 2 67s and a single 1970 card which just happened to be a guy named Reggie Jackson. The final package was from Mike Rich. Mike decided to go after my 49 Bowman high numbers and then top it off with an array of other Bowmans. He hit me with no less than 5 49 Bowmans, four of which were high numbers. He also loaded the envelope with a 1950 Bowman and 2 1951 Bowman high numbers. Wow. Mike and I have traded 52 Topps hjigh numbers before and next on the agenda will be a swap involving some 53 Glendale Meats cards. Only in OBC are these kind of trades possible!!! My friends,
Because my wife and I left on the 23rd for a sixteen day, nine state, two country
trip, I was unable to open my secret Santa package until this morning.
Since the package was rather large, its presence under the tree hauntedme
for most of my vacation, but it was worth the wait, as inside was a very
nice Christmas card from Geno Wagner, along with three books from the oldbookstore,
including the Natural, Babe: The Legend Comes to Life, and the Catcher
was a Spy: The Mysterious Life of Moe Berg (the last of which I wasthinking
about buying myself).  Along with the books were a bunch of bookmarks
-- eight 1972 Milton Bradley cards, five 1973 Topps cards, and a 63 Jello
Ron Santo!  Great stuff, my friend!  Happy holidays and a happy New Year

I freaking LOVE this group!!!

This week has been amazing at the mailbox.  In other areas, a bit more challenging
as both my computer and my car are down for repairs. But one of themany
great parts of OBC is the gangs' impeccable, almost uncanny timimg.

PETER MEAD sends a TCP with mini- bios for the 64Topps De Busschere (betterhoopster
than hardballer) and 66Topps Richie Allen (all the skills but badtiming)...but
no comment on the biggest pleasure of the three: Cards Clubbers
from 67T with Curt Flood and that speedster, Lou Brock! Nice!

GERSH made an open call for early 70's lists and here's what he did to mine:
1972 Topps Thurman Munson In Action! Munson is a big hero of mine and I'mclosing
in on having all his regular issue Topps cards (I think--let you know
when my comp is fixed).  Munson came in good company, with a 71 med hi (Jarvis)
and 6 other 72's, 4 med hi's, fellow HOFer Don Sutton(!), and highest
of all high numbers at 6'6" and 787,Ron Reed!!! Wow, Gersh!

I am truly grateful for these cards, Peter and Larry! You guys definitely brightened
my week. And what with hits earlier this week, I would call myself

guys who always bring a smile.   So I open Ant's first. 1975
Topps #228 George Howard Brett rookie card!!! That's HUGE!!! The
biggest card in the set, obviously the toughest hit left for me, and now
I really will be able to finish this one! Oh, and Ant's note says,
"Lynn M. sends his regards!" Huh? Ant lives in NYC and Lynn
lives in LV, right? But okay. Cool.   Then I open
Lynn's. Hank's smile on the #1 card in the set, 74 Highlights

Hello All,

I arrived at about 10 am to the VFW hall in Redford MI where there is a regular card show AND a regular gathering of FOOT OBC'ers. This morning I ran into Ron Perry, Mike Mroz and of course Mike Rich. OBC friendly dealer Mike Sandles was on hand and there were enough other dealers with vintage to make it interesting. Mike Rich and I checked out some Glendale Meats and Wilson Franks TIGERS at one guys table but the price was off the mark, I spent most of my time at Sandles table with a `62 Kaline green tint, a `40 Playball and a `52 Bowman Large Football card being the most notable find. Got some additional TIGERS, some YAZ cards and a few Norm Cash cards for the HOM'er binder and plenty of stuff for the dupe box.
As is the case at any FOOT gathering cardboard goes a flying about so thanks to M ike Mroz for some Norm Cash fodder for the Norm binder, Mike Rich for a New London coin of Boog Powell and Ron Perry for (3) Series 1 `73 TCMA All Time Greats post cards with Appling, Lyons and Maranville. After the show, well after we were done with the show I accompanied Mike Rich for lunch at a pub in the Royal Oak area where we continued our conversation and watched a little football. Had a nice day with the fellas - BE WELL!!!!

Boyd, Miller, Shaw, Thomson, Grim, Buhl, Oldis, Veale, Allison, Grich,
Wine, Watson, two that were traded for each other (Bonds and Murcer), a 1974
Gibson, and a 1967 RBI Leader that not only featured Clemente but somenon-Bob

could even get one on my own, Mac Wubben hits me with my first T206! In comes
Otto Knabe, the Phillies 2nd baseman who in a few years would find himself
managing the Baltimore Terrapins in the Federal League. Between 1911-13,he
in the top 20 in NL MVP balloting, so he must have been a tough dead-ball
infielder since his stats aren't all that great. Probably one of those guys

I attended the Redford Show yesterday, and had the chance to meet up with afew
fellow Feet =96 Mike Rich, Ron Perry and Mark Talbot.  Both Ron and Mark
greeted me with the traditional OBC handshake (cardboard, of course) =9632
1976 Topps FB hits from Ron and 6 great 1979 FB hits from Mark.  These lists
have really taken a beating in recent months.  The show had some nicevintage,
but I spent most of my time, and $$$$, at Mike Sandles table.  Highlights
were a handful of 1950-53 Bowmans for $1-2 each, hits to 11 of my Topps
baseball lists, a 1974 Topps 599 San Diego Large Date from the dime box
(bringing that set down to 1) and a bunch other goodies.  On top of that,
Mike gave Mike Rich a box of OBC beaters at no charge, which he passed along
to me to pass out to the group.  I did snag a couple of 1973 Topps to bring
my list down to 2!  Thanks, Mark, Ron & Mike.

If your wantlist includes 1968-1975, and you don't mind beaters, please send
me a note =96 it will save me from having to search through everyone's list.

LINDA FITAK emailed me last week after I rambled about my own dislike of the
HOF voting process after Carlton Fisk was first up for induction.  Linda said
that she was sending over a special Carlton Fisk card for me.  Well, you
know a package from Linda will contain multiple cards.  Sure enough, shehits
a few OPC sets.  The 71, 70 and 2-76's.  She also adds to my train card
collection with 5 hits, one of which will have to be translated by one of
our high schools German students.  An Origins of Baseball card, a Target Dodger,
and a few other non sports.  But the highlight is a uv Carlton Fiskcard
that has some of his jersey in the card.  What a great addition to myFisk
collection.  Thank you Linda!

Two packages arrived in the mailbox today, which has about 3-4 inches of fresh
snow on it in what is becoming a legendary winter even for Central Minnesota.

One was from Jason Christopherson, a fellow Upper Midwesterner from Cheesehead
Land. His package contained 21 hits to my '75 Topps set. It's full of bright,
primary colors and cards that include Jose Cardenal's perfect afro; Ken Griffey
(Junior's dad); Pete LaCock (son of former Hollywood Squares host Peter
Marshall; I guess we all know why dad changed his name); a Texas Rangers team
card with a littleb picture of Billy Martin on it; and Rudy Meoli, whoseaction
photo looks like he was feebly popping up. It's a nice haul and the cards are
very good condition. Thanks.

Then, newby Ed Watts (I get to call him a newby because I think he's the only
person in OBC for a shorter time than me) sends four '79s my way, includingthe
one and only Ozzie Smith. It's a key card on the want list (No. 116), whichis
getting shorter and shorter. Thank you, Ed.

I finally returned to work today after 2 weeks of vacation time followed by4
days of a nasty flu-like virus. Yeuchhh.....

My return was somewhat lightened by the fact that there were a few OBC envelopes
sittingon my desk.

Thanks first to Brian Lindholme for kick starting my1957 set with 15 hits
including OBC favorites Frank Thomas and Gus Triandos. That's a 50% rise in
umbers on that set!!

Next, a special thanks to Linda Fitak. I'm not sure why, but I seem to have
merited not one, but TWO packages from Linda.... not that I'm complaining!!
Linda sends along her usualeclectic mix of baseball and cigarette cards.The
baseball side includes some fantastci additions to the collection -a 1958T
3 1959Ts, 4 Al Kaline cards, 3 Bobby Thomson cards (including an AUTOGRAPHED
variety!!), a pair of Tigers from the Dearborn Sports Show set of 1978/79, and
couple Detroit related Origins Of Baseball cards. On the cig card and non-sport
side there are wildlife, flowers, Star Trek, and Americana. My favorites though
are 4 cards from the "Beautiful Scotland" series. Two of these cards feature
places that I'm very familiar with - theFalls of Dochart inthe village
Killin, and the Peaks Of Glencoe, an area where I'vehiked. climbed, camped
and had many a good time!!

Finally, yet another thank you to my Wisconsin agent Bill Ashton who forwards
yet another box of ebay/online purchases to me. I haven't yet torn into this
(hope to get to it at lunchtime), but I know its full of all kinds of wonderous
delights......probably a set-killing 1965T #207Pete Rose!!

The snow has finally stopped in Bloomington but the cards keep coming.  Thanks
to Spike Glidden for a batch of 4 65 T's (including a Camilo Carreon high number
and a Larry Bearnarth obviously once owned by a Mets hater), 3 62T, 6 61 Ts, and
a 2005 Spike Glidden (#5, of course).  Beautiful cards all (even including the
anti-Mets 65)--they are much appreciated.

Randy Welk hit me with some 88s, making a dent in the 88T set with 10 cards
(including the unforgettable Keith Miller) and my 88 D set with 6 hits
(including some of the oddly rare high numbers).

Jason Christopherson sent a group of 3 1960T including a breath-taking Claude
Osteen, 3 61 Ts (Camilo Carreon makes an appearance here too in a semi-high
rookie star card), and he blasted away at my 72 T set with 11 hits (!) in the
semi-hi range.

Thanks out to LARRY GERSBACH this week.  I have almost no cards from 1970, 1971,
1973 and 1974 (However, I recently completed a '72 set for my oldest son).
So the 1970 to 1974 years were the years that I attended the University
of Utah during the morning hours, then worked at the Hotel Utah parkingcars
full-time in the afternoon, and then tended hod with my bricklayer father
on weekends.  My free time (if any) was spent studying.  So looking back,
it makes sense that I have a big HOLE in the early 70's.
So 40 years later.....GERSH to the rescue!  He sends me a starter box of cards
from the "missing years"!  I'm going to sort them out this weekend, andhonestly,
there are some I have never seen before.  Young Marsh was too busy.
 But for "old Marsh", this will be a whole lot of fun.

By the way, Trish and I will be in Kissimmee from March 19th through
March 26th, (Wade doesn't want to go with us old fogies anymore), so any
suggestions on card shows or shops in the Orlando area would be
appreciated. We have a timeshare there and had planned to take our
7-year old grandson, Rylan, son of my other boy Ryan, to Disney World
and Universal but that fell through, so Trish and I are going alone this
year. That means minimal park time and maximum pool time for me, I guess
since Trish isn't big on going to the parks. I will try to get in a game
somewhere but a little card shopping would definitely be cool too.

Seahawks as they brave chilly Chicago for a HUGE game tomorrow.  Just

I stole a minute to tell you about the past two envelopes to arrive in SW WA.

Mike Mroz took 454 Ed Rakow off the 65T List, leaving that set with just a handful
to go. Great card, sharp corners and all... Mike!!

Same strategy, different year as Mac Wubben "greenified" me with a pair of 62
GreenTint Variants, also known as Grant's Revenge. I still have some trade
bait in sickly green if anyone is so inclined to drink that putrid koolaid!

(BTW- I wanted to plug Tom Housley's website listing all back to back pose variations,
which confirmed that I have two Pumpsie Green Greenies, but still
lack the regular version. That's a great resource!)

And in closing, please LMK who can still use low grade, low numbered 62's. I
have about 100 cards next to this keyboard and they need to travel the US!!!

Big day at the mail box today I have five ebay wins but one was interestingI
bought 2-1963 topps Clemente's they were stapled together wasn't sure what
I was getting until they arrived. The staples were easy to get off and weren't
glued together not sure why the owner didn't do it and sell them seperately
but I'm glad he didn't. Then Ed sent 2-79 topps, George sent a 40 playball,2-64
philly fb,2-74 topps fb,1-76 topps,75 topps mini,2-69 topps and
a 79 topps. Jim was offering up some 73 topps team checklists and I have never
started that set so I asked him if he could send some for a starter set
after he hit people and 7 different and 3 of them he sent both variations.

A great package arrived today from Mark Talbot--highlighted by a 52 Topps Richie Ashburn.  The subject line is in reference to a trimmed card I sent Mark and the trimmed 52 Bowman Suitcase Simpson he sent my way.   


Mark also included six cards from one of those classic sets--the T218 athletes and boxers.  So two track stars, a few swimmers and a solo boxer find there way into my binder.

Thanks to James Moleta for knocking down 2 from my 1966 Topps set and especially

Andy Cook helped me with my OBC resolution to start seriously working on my56
Topps set.  He sent two cards including a severe looking Del Crandall. With
these two, he turned the Have list into a Need list.

T. J.  Valacak took two more off of my 1973 Topps list--shrinking it to 4 cards.
 He also sent 7 1969 T, including Roy White.

Earl  Kilbourn sent a puffy envelope with 2 more 69s including the Aurelio Rodriguez
(which I believe is really the batboy), a 65 leaders card, a 64 McCovey/Wagner,
one each from 63, 62, and 61 Topps.  Two 1960s (including the
Giants team card), 4 1959s, and 8 1958s including Carl Furillo and Stu Miller.

Kings. Last night was Rogie Vachon night at the Staples Center. He lives
in my hometown. Although I never met him, I went to his house once in high
school. I was on a ride along with a deputy sheriff in the mid-80s andwe
got called to Rogie's house because kids were egging it. We rolled up and
his wife was in the driveway. She looked at me and said "Is that the kidwho's
egging my house?" The deputy vouched for me and took her statement. Nice

Subject: Big Big Day

Today was a great day to be my mailbox.  In addition to some stuff I ordered
from three different places, I received four (!!!) envelopes in the box today
from OBCers.  In no particular order:

JAMES MOLETA sent me "Straight A's":  a 1972 high number (Curt Blefary) anda
1970 card of some guy named Reggie Jackson.  Wow!!!  Those amazing hits brought
my 72 list down to 33 needed and the 70 list down to 10!!!

DAN ANGLAND sends a pair of hits to my 1960 (Jim Davenport) and 1961 (Ron Moeller)
sets--the Moeller a semi-high number, I believe.  I wrote Mr. Davenport
a letter several years ago and got his autograph.  Thought about displaying
it next to my Tim Couch and Sammy Sofa autographed cards!  :)

TJ VALACAK loads up a jaw-dropper of an envelope with nine hits to the 69 Topps
set, including card #1 and the rest semi-highs and high numbers.  Thiswas
a set I never dreamed of starting, but thanks to OBC I'm already more than
half done with it!!

LINDA FITAK continues her onslaught of my lists, particularly my Eau Clairelist,
with hits to the 59, 60, 61, and 62 Topps sets, a 62 Post card, the uber-cool
oddball cards that have become her trademark, and a 1977 Philly Baseball
Card Show card of Stan Spence, former Eau Claire Bear.  This is a card
I have never seen and a set I've never heard of--this is becoming the norm
with the envelopes from Linda.  Talk about expanding my collecting horizons!

The words "Thank you" seem so insufficient, but thank you to each and everyone
of you.  Another great day to be in the OBC family!!!

my favorite. Tom is a graduate of St. Cloud Cathedral High School. St. Cloud's
home for me and Burgmeier is one of Cathedral's most famous graduates. Thanks

* T.J. Valacak -- T.J. comes through with an amazing 35 hits to my '76 set,
including Johnny Bench (No. 300) and Phil Niekro (No. 435). There also cards
like Steve Garvey, Luis Tiant and Tito Fuentes. That puffy puts some major

Linda sends a puffy with a pair of great 58 Topps, a 55 Bowman, a fantastic
Bert Blyleven Donruss game used card with an autographed bat cutout and a

It's 15 below here in God's Country (Central Minnesota). But I got an envelope
from George Vrechek that at least warmed me up for a while. He supplied 12 hits
to my '70s sets.

The highlights: a '75 Leroy Stanton, a '76 Bobby Bonds Record Breaker (#2), Don
Baylor (#125) and Johnny Grubb (#422), a '77 Ed Kranepool (#201) and a '79 Dale
Murphy (#39), who was the Braves' best player for a decade.

My '77 and '79 wantlist is now down to the low 20s each. They would never have
gotten that low without the help of this great collecting club.

Vachons and 2 Marcel Dionne. I met Marcel Dionne once. He lived in my town
as well and in the summer of 1986 I was working in the local pet store and
I got a $10 bonus for every dog or cat I sold. Since I made $4 an hour, that
was a meaningful incentive. One day I had a dog out and a little girl came
up to pet it. She loved that dog and turned to look up at her father to
get him to buy it --- Marcel Dionne. I can still picture his face when hesaid
(read with a French Canadian accent) "Oh honey, we don't really a dogright

supposed to discuss here. But I just barely can't talk about them
(early 80s Topps) and it was a really puffy, puffy, so he deserves

=95 Mike Mroz, who sends a really nice envelope of cards via OBC dealer
Mike Sandles. Mike included semi-HI# hits to the '71 and '72 Topps
sets, 4 hits to the '73 Topps set (highlighted by Dock Ellis) and a
'75 Topps 1967 MVPs featuring Yaz and Baby Bull Orlando Cepeda. I
recall that Mike's email said that these were supposed to be beaters,
but most of them look better than the cards that were already in my
sets. Thanks a ton Mike!

I had a great OBC week here in Italy!

First came a huge box form TOM ELLIOTT with (154) 1973 and (23) 1976 Football
cards. I was blown away when I got this package. The stack included manyof
my favorite Cowboys such as Lee Roy Jordan and Mel Renfro. Tom=E2=99s
cards put a gigantic dent in my Football wantlist. Thanks Tom!

Second was another famous package from LINDA FITAK with a conglomeration ofcards
including a 1959 Gary Bell, (2) 1960s, a 1965 Bill Virdon, and several
football including a Preston Pearson and a Robert Newhouse. Also in the package
were my beloved Star Wars and Elvis cards. This was the second package
from Linda in a month. Thanks Linda!

Next came a package from RICH NIESSEN containing a stack of UV wants that have
sat on my wantlist for years. Thanks Rich!

And finally came a set killing 1985 Dwight Gooden from ED WATTS. Thanks Ed!

Lynn Miller is an incredibly generous person. I'm guessing most OBC members
already know that. He has sent me several envelopes in the past and I've been
unable to send hardly any return fire, if at all.

Well today I got another Lynn Miller envelope stuffed with cards and I just
wanted to say thank you ... again. It's a wonderful mix of stuff.

There are 28 '68 hits, including a Series 4 checklist with Orlando Cepeda's mug
in the upper right corner and guys like Dan Frisella, Mike Cuellar and Ted
Uhlaender who I have an affection for, all for one reason or another.

Then there's a '69 Bob Humphreys (#84). Next comes 21 '75s, a '76 Oakland A's
team card (#421), 10 '77s and six '78 Topps football.

Three envelopes full of cards arrived today.  Mike Mroz sent 8 hits from 69T and
one 72T.  The 69 set has now been hit almost 50 times since I joined OBC and the
72 more than 20.  There is no way I could have made this kind of progress on
them without you guys.

Rick Lyons hit the 69 set again and also passed along one each from 61, 62, and
64 T.  The envelope was completed by 5 cards from 65 T.

Finally, fellow Hoosier Randy Griffin send along one each from 62T, 59T, and
55T.  The 55 Gus Zernial was a definite highlight--I love the blue KC A's hats
with red and white lettering.

Jason Christopherson puts a TIGER fan in TIGER Heaven with a box of nearly 400
TIGER cards, they are mostly shiny items BUT the box has many TIGER cards
that I have never seen before =E2=93 so it=E2=99s a real thrill toget

is the 1968 Dave Wickersham, which was at one time torn in half.  Iwonder

of a young Tiger fan.  Looks great to me, though.

I am calling a truce to those who might be thinking of hitting my newly posted
early 70's wantlist.  I need some time to update it.  And it's all Larry's

Last week, LARRY GERSBACH sent me some 1970 thru 1974 starter cards.  I received
them and I'm happy because I own no cards in those years.  I post thenew
wantlists on my website.
My wife retired last week.  30 years service with the state.  She is happy.
I take vacation, and we go see our grandkids in southern Utah for 5 days.  Of
course, I tell the mailman to stop delivery until I return.
I return home and it dawns on me....Hey, tomorrow my wife can go wait in the
long line at the post office and pick up the mail.  I don't have to do that
anymore!  WAY COOL!
Mrs. West, a 5-footer, needs a freakin' wheelbarrow to get all the mail to the
ED WATTS- a BOX of cards.  DAN ANGLAND- a big puffy of cards.  RICHARD DINGMAN-
a normal letter with a much needed '63 of Jim Coker!  LYNN MILLER- of course,
he doesn't send a box of cards.  No.  He sends 2 BOXES of cards!  And
on top of all that OBC stuff hammering my new 70's wantlists, there are tons
of regular mail and tax statements.

Thanks so much to all those who sent cards!  Mucho appreciated.  The bad news-
from now until forever, I will be the one in the post office line.  Mrs.

To summarize:

Dan Angland -- Sends three '62s, Tony Cloninger, Bob Will and the third series
Checklist, as well as a '75 Billy Grabarkewitz that looks like it was cut
the factory with a dull blade. It's hilarious and will be proudly displayedin
my '75 binder.

Bob Donaldson -- Comes through with three '59s, all Kansas City A's: Ralph
Terry, Mike Baxes and Bob Grim.

Linda Fitak -- How does one succinctly describe a Fitak puffy envelope? Exotic?
Eclectic? Strange? Wonderful? All of the above? Highlights include: seven Topps
football cards from the 1970s, including a '79 Toni Fritsch card, the former
Oilers kicker who went to the same college as the Raiders' Otis Sistrunk (that
would be "none"). Then, there are two 1960 Topps: Mike Fornieles and Billy
Jurges, a '63 Ryne Duren and two '69 cards: Gary Wagner and Tigers Rookie Stars
(#324) Les Cain and Dave Campbell. And then comes the fun stuff: a Kojak TV
Series card, some UV baseball cards and other stuff, an American Bandstand Card

Wow.  My O Pee Chee lists just got a bunch shorter and that is so appreciated.

The first was from Jason Christopherson and included five OPC cards from 1972,
1973, and 1974.  The lot included the nasty spitballer Gaylord Perry.

The second package was actually a series of three envelopes from Anthony Arbeeny.
These hits included 20 1965 OPC's (McCovey and leader cards), and 17
other OPC's from 1969 to 1971 and included Banks.

Ant also found some 1951 and 1952 Bowmans and t Posties with one being a Canadian

This is really some awesome stuff and I greatly appreciate the cards.

I opened the mailbox today to find three OBC envelopes.  Dan Angland sent a
beautiful 1972T Reggie Smith In Action that now joins its non-action

Bob Donaldson sent three more 1972 Topps hits, all of them precious hi #s,
including the John Milner rookie.  Milner was a great mid-70s Met, much
respected until the Pittsburgh trials (and his Willie Mays on amphetamines
story).  A great card nonetheless.

Linda Fitak hit four active sets and took out one of my ten most wanted, the
1973 T George Stone (my last outstanding Met from that set).  In addition she
has got me started on a Mays binder (okay, a Mays sheet in a binder) with two
more UV Mays cards.  She also contributed a pretty compelling pro-Star Trek
argument by sending a Phaser card alongside a batch of Star Wars cards.  They
were joined by the general himself, Abner Doubleday, from the Origins of
Baseball. This was without a doubt an all-around great batch.

Unbelievably, another four OBC envelopes were in the mail today.  Once again
in no particular order:

DAN ANGLAND encourages me to have an OBC day by sending a couple of beauties
from 1962.  He must know I'm a Brewer fan--one of the cards was Jim Brewer!

BOB DONALDSON crushes my 75 Topps mini set with a dozen hits including a Bob
Gibson Highlights card and a card of future Brewer Mike "Mr. Warmth" Caldwell.

ED WATTS with a superb envelope featuring hits from 66, 67, 68, and 69.  The
68s include a couple of World Series cards and a Yaz All-Star.  WOW!

MARK TALBOT sent a big puffy hitting each Topps base set from the 60s ten times.
That's a hundred beautiful hits, if my math teacher did her job!  Some
highlights include Dick Williams, Red Schoendienst, Luis Aparicio, Al Kaline,
several checklists and leader cards depicting a bunch of HOFers.  Favorite
is Bob Buhl from 67--just something about the guy that I like.

Monday was a great day at the mailbox as four envelopes arrived.  I was notable
to get to them until tonight, but the wait was worth it.  RICK LYONS sends

my 72 Globetrotters gray series, while the other ten are all opc cards.  One

Melido Perez card from the uv era.  I know this isn't a vintage hit, but

Finally, PETER MEAD sends over a single item - a 1964 Topps Coin of Dick Groat.
He adds a note that states "Every set chase starts with a single card/coin."
Peter, very cool.  I have been thinking of adding both coin sets for

Everybody's Favorite Family Toad, BRIAN LINDHOLME, offered a big waiver
wire of 1962 Topps, and sent thirty of 'em my way! That's more like a
starter set, which my 62's really still needed.  INcluded were the AL
victories leader with all-time great Whitey Ford, the Cardinals team
card, and Pete Runnels.  Much obliged, Mr. Toad, and thanks for the
compliment; I love this group and I especially appreciate the
affirmation from a vet like you.  ;-)

Finally, Rick Lyons sent an upgrade of 1978 Topps Stan Bahnsen, the card
with which he became my first OBC hero by killing my first childhood set
(had thousands of them, literally, and somehow never got one of
each--something to do with Topps collating, I believe).  I guess Rick
thought the first one he sent was sub-par.  But Stan was surrounded by
older cards:  three from 1966 Topps, two from 67 Topps, including the
Phillies team card and Giants rookies, three from '68--looking just as
sharp as the cards Randy Welk sent (did kids not play with their cards
in '68?).  A great nine pack from Rick, with a good laugh about Bahnsen.
So...if anyone needs that card, I now, 33 years later, have TWO!

Thanks to Rich Niessen and his wife Debbie for joining us for dinner duringour
visit to Las Vegas.  To top it off Rich brought me a  1960 Nu Card formy
type card collection.  Then Deb took us to the casino and showed us some
tips of the trade with the slot  machines. She got us hooked on a particular
game. Fortunately it was only a penny slot and we only lost $10 gambling.

Thanks for the good time Deb & Rich. I am looking forward to our next visit.

Linda does it again, only this time she upped the ante.   She had to use a
puffy this time to hold all the goodies.  Among those  goodies I found two
1960, a '71 and a '73 Topps.  Then the newer stuff, a  1990 Target Dodgers, a
'94 American Archives Origins of Baseball, a couple more  for the Kaline
binder, a autographed Topps Archives Mark Fidrych, a Topps  Heritage and a
Topps Harry Truman card.  Also a couple non-sports cards and  a ten card group
of castle/cartoon/Kilimanjaro/cigarette cards/flowers(garden  and
wild)/POLICE FILE and "SEEFAHRT".  Another clasic Fitak Pack, thanks  Linda.

Two envelopes were in the mailbox today.  KEVIN MARTENS sends over two hitsto
the newly posted 1964 Topps coins set.  Boston's Dick Stuart and Detroit's
Jerry Lumpe are now added to the collection.  Thanks Kevin!

The other envelope was from TOM HOUSLEY.  Tom sends over a heavy hitting TCP.
He starts it off with a hit to my 1971 Fleer set with the battle of St.Louis
- the 1944 contest between the Cards and Browns.  The next card is a54
Bowman of Don Mueller.  The Mueller hit brings that set down to just 8 cards,
not counting the Williams.  Finally, Tom hits me with a 1962 all-star
card of Warren Spahn.  The Spahn card has been updated to indicate that Warren
was managing in the minors.  I love the variation.  The hit brings my62
Topps set down to just 6 cards.  Great three pack Tom!  Thanks!
