Guys, you're response to my surgery has been overwhelming. It's difficult to pity myself while being drowned in cardboard. I feel like I'm a newbie again, the outpouring of cards has been so generous. The healing process has been a challenge. I am about two weeks into the six weeks I'm not supposed to put any weight on my left foot. These first two weeks were to be on house rest. Four kids, living in the country on the top of a hill with a gravel driveway that we rarely drive up, a small house with two stories, country chores, etc., makes this an interesting time of life. These next two days are especially daunting, because Kim has taken Annalise to Children's Hospital in Seattle for her regular check-ups and procedures--nothing to be concerned about, we just have to be cautious and keep an eye on her conditions. Meanwhile, I'm holding the fort with the other three while on crutches. My three-year-old doesn't really understand why dad has a stormtrooper boot on or why I can't carry him up and down the driveway like I usually do. I'm trying to pull off swim lessons, soccer practice (I'm Aria's assistant coach) and everything else we do in life while, technically, this is supposed to be my first day leaving the house. Uh-huh. Plus, pastoring continues, since people's crises don't take time off while I'm recovering. Wearing a boot beats the heck out of wearing a cast, since I can shower, my leg doesn't reek, and I can take it off when I need a break. But I have to be more careful not to forget and put my foot So I still have the challenges of life without any of the recreation or physical activity to keep me in balance. I'm starting to hike on my crutches, which probably isn't recommended. And yeah, the foot still hurts. The doctor couldn't find the tendon at first, so I got a bonus I tell you all this to emphasize just how WONDERFUL the therapy from my Brothers in Cardboard has been! I always look forward to mail time in hope that there will be something, but during this stretch that hour has been a Godsend. I want to thank you guys properly, so instead of making one long list, I'm going to write thanks in pairs. That way you can read which ones you want and find your names easily! Seriously, you folks amaze me! Mac, much appreciated on both counts! Richard Dingman hits 1954 Bowman #74, Jim Gilliam, who was one heck of a ballplayer. Obviously, the Dodgers teams of the 50s aren't my passion, but they had some greats. Thanks a lot, Richard! With these, my favorite set stands at 28! Blessings on you both and on all my OBC family! Mark, that's a terrific hit, knocking off one of the bigger names. Gil was no slouch, himself. Mark also sent two 1952 Topps, #82 Pilette and #90 Grasso. Grasso was a P.O.W. I was trying to wrap my mind around that. Mark said that every collection needed hits like these=97Tiptons! And I gotta say, these are the real deal. They even smell Tipton! Compared to these, my 54 B Mantle is pack-fresh. ;-) Plus, Mark includes a Tigers sked, which I interpret as an open invitation to join FOOT? Then a puffy came in from Kruk's Sportscards. I've won ebay items from them before, but couldn't remember a recent win. Still, sometimes shipping takes a long time and I forget by the time cards arrive. (Okay, not really, I'm pretty into these cards, but it could happen.) I opened it to find a BVG graded (2.5)...Gil Hodges! I actually puzzled a long time how I had won a graded Gil Hodges without remembering doing so...when finally, I got it: OBC! So some Mystery Man (or Woman) out there snagged this for me and had it sent direct! That's just downright sneaky=97and awesome!! These are perfect examples of what I mean when I say, "I love you guys!" And, for good measure, these came the same Now ironically, Gil Hodges is one of the variation cards, so I now have...two #138 b's. Yeah, it would have been nice, but they're the same variation. On the way home, I stopped to grab the mail and there was a big puffy that felt like it didn't have enough in it for the size, as in, why did someone send this big envelope with something small in it? Just in case you aren't as into this 1954 Bowman set as I am, I'll translate: #177 is Whitey Ford #89 is Willie Mays Mac wrote a note on the outer plastic bag: "funded by OBC." Mays was the other big ticket card for this set after I got lucky on a (nice-looking-but-) Tipton Mantle. Mac knew I was after it because he was going to by my proxy shopper at the National. And how completely OBC that it wasn't even "just" Willie Mays, but Whitey Ford came along! And...how completely OBC that Whitey Ford came along with 8 corners! I probably hit at least twenty different sets--many from OBCers.  I even finished three sets--1960 Bell Brand Dodgers, the 1954 Red Man set and one of those newer Topps sets that Kent Goto finished off for me.
Met a few OBCers for the first time and saw a few for too short a period of time.  I really enjoyed the game with Kent, Sal, Mac, Mike Rich, Steve R., Ron Perry, and a couple of VCTers Mike Mackie and Taylor Schock.
Met Sean McGowan, Jeff Delott and Dave Hornish for the first time.  Ran into the expanded Morganti clan--and generally enjoyed myself.
Thanks go out to:
Sal Domino for two 1952 Bowmans--great stuff.
Ron Perry for sharing one from his great 51 Blue Back buy--Ralph Branca.
Richard Dingman for three 1951 Bowmans.
Jeff Delott for another 1951 Bowman.
Kent Goto for finishing the 2&^8 Topps set, eight 40 Playballs and a 34 Goudey.  Unbelievable!
Mac Wubban for two 33 Goudeys, two 35 Goudeys and a stack for my 76 OPC set (which I think Mark Talbot and Mac have built in its entirety).
Mike Rich provides a multi-sport assortment--three 64 coins (only Mantle, Koufax and Stretch McCovey), a 69-70 Bobby Hull, a 60 Leaf high number, a 61 fleer football of Jerry Kramer and a couple 1971 OPC baseball.
Great show and great company--hopefully I can make it to Chicago next year.

Rich Niessen: Sent a huge box of cards that won't be vintage for a while and thus will appear elsewhere, but it positively KILLED most of a set and included inserts, too. Another National has come and gone, and I am still trying to recover.Similar to everyone that attends the National, I am sure I will forget togive thanks to some of the guys that were there. My apologies for those that I was not able to keep proper track to thank. I believe 19 OBCers madeit to this year's National, plus afew potential OBCers (Connor Reed, Dominic Morganti, plus Taylor Schock and Mike Mackie of VCT?, who may end up trying to join us). I think I got a chance to at least say hi to everyone but Tim Newcomb. I saw Tim on the show floor a couple of times, when I was watching Larry Kerrigan's table. He did not hear me call over. Sal helped do early coordination, Kent Goto allowed me to grab 5 assorted cards, including a 1937 Goudey Knot card (my 2nd), a strip card, Mother's Cookie and a 1961 Bell Brand! Richard Dingman, alowed me to share a lack of Quality Inn room with him for 2 nites, plus drove me to the airport as we shut down the show. Spike able to stop by for a day again. Jeff Delott gave me 2 1963 Topps bb for my buddy, incluing a #2 leader card with Mantle and then followedit up with another 63 in the mail yesterdy of (do not tell Sal) the Mets team card. Bob Donaldson gives me an upgrade to a Basketball checklist and gets me collecting another set with my 2nd 1967 Red Sox sticker. Ken Morganti continues to assist me with my 1971 Kellogg's variations, including a no 3 Sutton. Ken also allowed us to meet his wife and son. Dominic was a hit of the gathering, and already has some 1963 Bazooka ATG cards to play with. Mac Wubben was his usual generous self with a T-205 A. Lathan variation with a Cycle back, and 3 1910 Sweet Caporal pins, to honor its 100th anniversary. Peter Mead hosted me on Friday nite, and I got to see his 1962 Post/Post Canadian/Jell-o album. Impressive to see each row having 1 of each with almost all pockets filled. Rob Gioia played chauffeur for Mac and I on Saturday nite. Steve Rittenberg, and Gina, arranged for discounted gift certificates to a sports bar, picke dup the dealer passes I arranged for, plus gave me a Dan Dee Bauer (down to 2), 2 National chicle Fine Pens and 2 Dixie Lid type cards, that we have not been able to determine the year and specific set yet. Ed Schott played host and helped bird dogHostess Panels and at Chandy's table that a few people will receive. AndyCook wa also able to partake of 1 day of his first National. I was able to get some prewar hits from him, including my first 1911 Obak. Saen McGowan was the subject of some good natured ribbing at the swap as to how to tell what year a card is. Ron Perry was among the late adds to the group, andgo tsome of the best buys of the show with his 1951 Topps blue back and 1952 Wheaties purchases. I was able to bird dog a set completer of 1970 Topps Basketball Posters for him.Bob Reed & Connor showed up. I owe Connor an autographed Boog Powll card, I need to still mail out. Brian Betza was another late addition and made the swap on Saturday. Mike Mackie, of VCT, joined us at the swap, and handed me a W-572. I will try and put together a ramble about the show. Much appreciated, Richard! Second off, Father Pat gives me a gigantic stack of 1963's and 1965's, including a very cool 1963 National League batting leaders card with Frank Robinson, Stan Musial, and Hank Aaron! Very nice card indeed. The other highlight card that probably will not mean much to any of the other fellow collectors is a 1965 Dick Bertell card. The reason this card means so much to me is that it is one of my first vintage cards that I ever acquired. Back around 1987 or so, when I was seven years old, my best friend's neighbor collected cards as well. We would go to his house and trade our"junk wax" cards (always commons) for old Tiptonesque 1959-1968 cards thathis uncle mailed to him, trying to get him interested in the better cards to The Dick Bertell card was one of the cards in which I acquired. I kept itfor about 13 years, until my entire card collection was stolen from me. That is what turned me away from baseball card collecting for a good eight years. Seeing this card once again really brought the memories back full force. I am once again reminded of Mad Magazines, buying wax packs, being the class clown, and all around being a kid. I joined OBC a short five years after that using Prodigy. It is funny -- back then in 1987 this card was only 22 years old. That would be the equivalent of a 1988 Topps card nowadays. But I was only seven years old, and it felt as if I owned an original Gutenberg Bible. It certainly is crazy how time catches up with you. Whenever I come across a child, Itry to give them a small stack of older cards in order to turn them on to the hobby. I believe that my efforts have been fruitless thus far, but one of these days I just might change a child's life. One can only hope. If you have made it this far, thanks for reading! TJ VALACAK goes after two sets I'm happy to see coming down: a blistering thirty-two knocks to the 1969 Topps brings that one down to about 150. Included were: Yankees, Padres, Braves, Expos, ChiSox, Cards, AND AL Rookie Stars, Bill White, Tim McCarver, Luis Tiant, and "Aurelio Rodriguez" (who is actually a picture of Leonard Garcia). That was a hefty bunch...but TJ also threw in some hits to the 75 Topps set, including Lefty Carlton, Don Sutton, and the last missing checklist. That set stands at TEN! Awesome, TJ! I'm really grateful for all these! Blessings on you two and all the rest of the hooligans! Sheeshhh....but I do have the Williams cards and the Kaline, so I'm not totally weak on the star I had to laugh when I read Rob Gioia's "15 and a half hours" time difference from Halifax to British Columbia. Here in the PacNorwest a lot of us listen to Canadian stations for various types of music, and the CBC broadcasters ALWAYS say the time in half hour increments for Nova Scotia. I would assume the folks in Nova Scotia KNOW the time there --- why would the rest of the CBC listeners give a rat's ass that Nova Scotia is a half hour different FROM EVERYONE ELSE?! I mean, Grant practically lives on the Continental Ice Shelf -- even he doesn't get half hour time increments. A couple of quick thanks this morning:
Bama blows back into action with three players from the 1941 Double Play set--that's right three individual players neatly cut in half.  Great stuff!
Jeff Delott must have come into a supply of 1964 Topps coins as he hits two bingos from my relatively short list.  Many thanks!
And thanks to all of OBC!

Bob Reed sends a long a 1965 Bazooka. Only my 6th from this set. I was lucky enough to be included in Bama's distribution of 1941 Double Plays, with both halves of a high number panel. This is a set that I finally got passed the 1/2 way mark last year. I finally found the time to try and figure out some of the cards I picked up at the OBC National swap. Steve Rittenberg gave me 2 Dixie Lid cards, but we were not convinced they were from the regular Dixie Lid series. Afterstudying them I am of the belief they are trimmed versions of the 1954 Dixie Lids. My first 2 from that set. Kent Goto had allowed me to grab a few strip cards. I have now identified them as a 1920 W516-1 #3 Bodie (now have 5 from thsi set), 1923 W572 Severeid, my 2nd and a 1932 W574 Fonseca, my 2nd again. With my rule of 1 is a type card and 2, you are collecting them , that makes 3 more sets that I am now collecting. I keep adding more sets than I finish. I wonder if I can get from 500 sets I am working on to over 600??? Thanks to fine traders such as above and the rest of OBC, it could happen some day. If I am able to knock off some of the 65 sets that I need 3 or less to finish, it will make that challenge even tougher.
