Friar apologizes for not having anything on my list - but of course, that's not the reason we join the NCAA pool...it's to get mail. And he delivers with a variety pack spanning the years 1952 - 1983 with Cubs and Red Sox players! I didn't watch much American League growing up, but I always liked Fenway Park (thus the BoSox) and the colors of the A's (and great names like Vida Blue, Sal Bando, and Joe Rudi). With my wife being a Connecticut girl and growing up watching the Red Sox, I had to add them to my 1952 wantlist along with the Cubs. Thanks for the great cards, Friar -- and Let's Go State - not only for the Big Ten, but for my tourney chances! BTW, the REA auction went live today - my favorite day of the year in baseball auctions. Check out the site and request a catalog - they're freeand super cool. I won a lot of T202s, T200s, and T3s last year, which my wife asks everyday when I'm going to sell the non-T202s. I sort of promised I would when the bid went over $1000, but I haven't got around to it...nor will I probably. Why is $1000 worth of shoes, purses, and hair coloring acceptable, but pre-war cards have to be justified? Anyway, I've got my first bid in for this year and I'm looking at a couple others when that falls through. Amazingly, they have TWO Hoblitzell "No Stats" in the auction! Gersh sends NCAA payoff in the form of 4 1963 Topps BB for my buddy Rocky whom I owe. Included were 3 semi-high and high numbers. Lynn Miller sends along a 1950 Bowman BB variation (missing the copyright). Player has a headache, mainly due to the hole in his head! Richard Dingman sends me a SCP that he states is the only dupe he had that I needed: a 1963 GAD Fun Card of Genrig. Richard and Bob Reed I think have both completed this set. The Gehrig gets me down to 4 more to wipe this set out. I had great plans to go to the Tigers Home Opener on Friday. I ended up not having arrangted to go with anyone and was thinking I would go down to one of the bars and try and get a ticket from someone that decided it would be better to stay and drink than go to the game and buy a ticket cheap to the sold out game. Very cold temps combined with wind resulted ina wind chill in the 20s. Considering I have not fully shook the cough from my cold a month ago, made me decide to stay home and watch the game on TV. It did allow me to stay home long enough to make the house habitable (enough) for RonPerry to drive down and join Mark Talbot and I for the finals of the NCAA Frozen Four and Boston College waxed Wisconsin. This morning Ron and I gotup and went to the local Redford show. Show has really slipped lately in that I was not able to get much for my collection, just 4 1977 Our Heroes of Sport cards (to get me within 7 of completion). Mark provided me with 4 upgrades to my 1971-72 Topps BSKB set, including Jerry Lucas. Ron swapped me some Red Mans for my master set quest of both expiration dates and with and without tabs. He then swapped me 2 R311 of Dykes and Harder to get me to 1/3 of the set at 9. Ron and I left the show to go tot he Tigers game, where I got sunburned and the Tigers rallied from a first inning 5-0 deficit and a 6th inning 7-1 deficit to win with a walkoff passed ball in the 9th, 9-8. We then went to a local pub and watched the Red Wings win in OT to clinch 5th place seeding for the NHL playoffs. Thanks for a great weekend. In any case I sent off a couple of pretty nice Post Cereal cards (imagine that) to Brock--and what comes back........
his lesser condition version of the two (that is right, only two) cards and a slabbed T205 of Bayard "Bud" Sharpe.  I actually went to school with a Bayard.  Brock also sent a couple of 62 Jellos my way last week--all in all a large thank you to our Gulf Coaster.

Rich Niessen sent 2 more 51T Blue Backs. He started me on that set a year ago and sends one every so often to keep it moving. Then John Leroux sent an awesome autographed 8x10 of Phil Cavaretta. Foryou guys that don't know, I love autographed B&W vintage baseball photos. The old B&Ws have so much more character than the new high definition, million color jobs that are mass produced today. He said to let him know if he could bring me back anything. Got me to wondering, are there Chinese baseball cards or sport cards? Must be, but I never heard of them, nor have I seen any on ebay or anywhere. Anybody know about this? To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com From: jschris@triwest.net Date: Fri, 23 Apr 2010 17:01:48 +0000 Subject: [OBC-Thanks] Whatta Day! Fresh off of reading all the trivialities and fun stuff of the 20-0 Brewer win (save some runs for the weekend, will ya?), I arrive home to find one amazing envelope in the box from Rob Fitts. I have emailed Rob a few times because I found his Wally Yonamine book to be sensational (seriously, go pick up a copy of this book!) and I was amazedto find out that we are now in OBC together. I never knew who Wally was until I read a blurb about him while at the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame a few years back. Wouldn't you know it, a couple months later Rob comes out with his book. Wally is now a sports hero of mine. So...what was in the envelope? Three incredible Wally Yonamine Japanese baseball cards, certainly worth far more than the trivial chunks of cardboard I sent to him. These cards are so special to me that I'm planning on putting them in a frame with my Wally Yonamine autographed photo. Thank you so much, Rob! OBCers -- I've been away for a couple of weeks and arrived home to find four great packages, plus a 1915 Cracker Jack Hoblitzell card in NM condition from a Memory Lane auction. Here's the details: From Mark Talbot, I received some NCAA spoils after the Spartans beat the Terrapins -a pair of Santo oddballs and a few non-sports critters for my daughter! Gotta love those deckle-edge cards, not sure how those companies grade the corners. Thanks a bunch, Mark! From Larry Gersbach comes a batch of Topps Wings cards...some great old airplanes in that group! That was the golden age of flying with different models coming off the line every week - would have been great to be a test pilot back then. Nowadays, we just keep slapping new stuff on old planes. Thanks for the great cards, Gersh! The last two packages both come by way of DC from Mac Wubben - nothing special, just a T206 Hofman, a T205 Russell Ford, and best of all, a T205 Hoblitzell variation -- not a bad haul from the nation's capitol! One of these days I need to get a Pentagon trip and go visit Mac, although that would make me the only guy to ever wish for a trip to that place. Thanks for the awesome hits, Mac! The Robert Edward auction ends tomorrow - anybody bidding? I'm going after the lot with five Christy Mathewson T202 cards - I'm up at the moment, but it's along way to the end.
