Our local grocery stores sell what they believe to be Paczki right before Lent season, except they fill with a mini teaspoon of custard or some sort of jam, rename these donuts Packzki and overcharge by about $1 per "donut". Next year for Fat Tuesday, I plan to take a vacation day and drive to Hamtramck to pick up a SUV load of Paczki. Also, a big thanks to Bob Reed's 5 year old daughter for somehow mysticallyassigning me my alumni team -- University of Texas! It would have been tough to cheer against them. Ryan Distelrath was kind enough to include me in his current blitz through the OBC ranks. I'm now the happy owner of a '52 Bowman Schoendienst, and also a very nice personal note - both of which I'll be keeping in my collection. Many thanks for your kindness, Ryan. The card is great but the note is evenbetter. ================= Date: Tue, 23 Mar 2010 19:55:34 -0500 (CDT) To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com From: hoot_owl1@verizon.net Subject: Thanks to Geno and KSU

Subject: Two dozen+ reasons to be thankful...

Good evening --

Got home late tonight after a frustrating day at work, most of it self-inflicted.
You can imagine what a nice surprise it was to find a *thick* package
of cards from Brock. On the first day of this wild, wild March Madness, my
proscribed team from Old Dominion stunned his representative, Notre Dame.Brock
dropped me an email immediately after, congratulating me on the win.I
felt a bit sheepish because I hadn't even had the chance to look at the score
yet (I sure did after his message! ). Brock mentioned that it was a
good thing that I have such an easy list of '67s. I'm glad it looked "easy"
to him too because I *love* the 23 hits he pounded off the list. I especially
love the Bobby Murcer rookie card, the cards of Joe Torre and Jim Fregosi
when they were still active players, and the trio of Twins -- Russ Nixon,
Sam Mele, and Ted Uhlaender. I also liked the awesome "Tribe Thumpers"card
with Rocky Colavito and "Daddy" Wags, the card of future Twins manager
Gene Mauch, and Tim McGraw's famous dad, Tug! I remember a story about Tug:
Apparently after Tug had played his first game against the Astros, a member
of the press asked Tug if he liked artificial turf better than grass. In
typical Tug fashion, he replied, "I don't know. I've never smoked artificial
turf." LOL...

At any rate, thanks a *ton* to Brock for a wonderful pick-me-up. Oh... I stated
I had two dozen+ reasons to be grateful and that Brock sent me 23 cards.
My other thanks goes out to Bob Reed for organizing this enjoyable diversion.
Thanks to his daughter, too, for a fine pick for my first round. :-)

Well all, I better get some sleep. Take care and have a wonderful evening...

Subject: NCAA and the anti-Ripken set

OBCers --

First off, Bob Donaldson made my day with an envelope to celebrate MichiganState
knocking off New Mexico St in Round 1. Included in the haul was acool
matchbook cover of Curt Davis of the Cubbies, a 1965 Embossed Santo, and
a Bears card of Golden Richards! While I was deployed, I shared space
with a rabid Cowboys fan, so we talked about guys who played for both like
Richards. The guy had an uncanny knack for knowing every college that anybody
who played for the Cowboys ever attended...amazing waste of gray matter,
which lent itself well to a deployment! Thanks for the great cards,

On a seperate note, I decided to post my 1980 set that I built as a kid on N54
to see what I could get in trade. The Henderson card was not in great
shape, but everything else was straight out of the pack from when I was 13
years old. My problem is that I have too many binders and my wife is on
my butt about cards and books engulfing the house. I ended up getting a
couple of Zeenuts in trade...thus fitting into a much smaller space! Ijust
posted a 1982 Fleer set, unfortunately I can't find the Ripken - I probably
took it out in one of our moves and put it somewhere safe...I just have
no idea where. I guess that backs up my wife's concerns about my lack
of organization! Anyway, it's now an anti-Ripken set, like anti-matter.
I've put it on there for a pre-war beater in trade, so if anybody wants
to trade me a pre-war Tipton just let me know. I'd prefer not to breakit
up, since I'll probably find the Ripken some day...it will cost more to
ship than what it's worth.

Take Care,

OK, let's review the Tournament Pool rules. The following is a verbatim quote
from Mr. Reed'semail of March 17th:

"Here is a recap of the rules. If your team wins their game the person who
has your opponent sends you something. If you team loses their game then
you send something to the person who has your opponent."

Pretty clear to me! Evidently it was not so clear to Randy Welk, who insisted
on sending me something in spite of the fact that his team (Ohio St.) beat
my team (UC Santa Barbara) in the opening round. I am none the less mostappreciative
of Randy'ssurprise envelope which contained a Zimmer for my

another from 1973 and something else to mention elsewhere.
Thanks Randy. I appreciate it.

And from Earl Kilbourn my final Ncaa tournament winnings. A good looking 1953

Hi Group-
I just got home from a mini-vacation in Green Bay, where the screen on my laptop
unexpectedly passed away. I've got it rigged up with some chicken wire
to an old desktop monitor right now because I had to get some thank yousout
there as soon as I can.

The first item in the overstuffed mailbox today came from Chris Stufflestreet.
I had sent him a few cards that won't be vintage for quite a while. He
replied with 19 TV Sets--all HD, in my opinion! Thank you very much for getting
that 55 set a HUGE kickstart for me!

Next was an envelope and nice note from Randy Welk. Randy also sent along about
a dozen cards ranging from 62-69. They look great--thank you Randy!

Another dozen hits from the 60s, including a Brooks Robinson, Billy Martin, and
Reds team card, arrived from "EEK". It took a few minutes to figure out
who "House of Maxwell" was, but now that I have, I owe Earl Kilbourn a debt
of gratitude.

Father Pat Wattigny provided the fourth and final piece of mail, and it wasa
doozy. 66 cards were in this package, all from 1962-64, and I lost count
of the number of stars and Hall of Famers. Thank you!

I'm simply humbled and grateful to be a part of OBC. Thanks to you all very
