First--my thanks to Ed Schott for putting together a favorite (non-star card)listing and then sending me a well loved version of Dick Green's 1965 Topps card.  This is probably closer to the condition of the card I lost as a kid.  I might even have to down grade.  I only wish I had a few hits for some of the crew that has picked cards.
Then there is the Marshall out west.  I mean Mr, West.  One of the beautiful things about OBC is that your fellow collectors really want to help you finish sets.  And Marshall has helped me as much as almost anyone--by constantly pulling singles from his own sets.  Simply unbelievable.  This time Marshall pulls the Davis boys from his 1962 Jello set--as he reminds me 1% of the entire set.  Marshall--not quite certain how to say thanks, but I know I will continue to try.

Two recent packages have made their way to South Carolina:

Thanks to Rich Niessen, who sends a glossy unmentionable featuring
childhood hero Dale Murphy! Thanks a ton Rich!

Thanks to Linda Fitak, who sends one of her patented Fitak-paks.
Linda hits the 58 and 59 Topps list once each and hits the 1963 Topps
list three times. So that those cards wouldn't get lonely, Linda also
includes some oddball cards and an assortment of tobacco cards
featuring kings, reptiles, legendary monsters and even an 1886

ED SCHOTT starts out the week with the new poject list with my favorite cards
of a 1971 Bert Blyleven. This is the card I will send with Geno when hemakes
his space trip:-) While I have always loved the 53 Bowman of Stan Musial
it was said to keep it to commons so I went with my HOMy.

Not to be out done JOHN STAMPER send yet another 71 Blyleven along with a 372
Topps football of Pete Gogalak, Ken Willard and Larry Little.

Last but not least is RICHARD DINGMAN who shortly after I sent my October want
list out send a message that he found some updated cards for my list. These
cards I kid you not look just like they were off the presses, seee mycards
I.ve know these arent any like I seen with this set as they have corner
and pristine colors. Richard in keeping with the 1971 theme (no Blyleven)
sends 41 updated verseion to the list along with a couple of 1978.

Thanks guys for cheering up what I had thought was a month long week. It just
nice to know this organization know how to cheer someone up on gloomy days.

Just for a medical update. In a couple of weeks I will be going in for my 4th
surgery on my Achilles tendon. This is one I should be in and out on the
same day with no problems. Just like the first one 15 month ago:-)

Lynn's elves have been busy printing more cards. He hits four lists -
'60, '61, '66, and '70 Topps baseball. Some highlights - a '61 MVP
card of Bobby Shantz. I once had a Bobby Shantz glove that I found
half buried under a log in Big Sur. It was floppy and thin but better
than the glove I had at the time. Every time I see a Shantz card it
brings back good memories of playing catch with that glove. A '60
Cincy Clouters with Frank Robinson - cool card. A huge stack of
probably 70 cards from 1970 including a card of Lou Brock using the
bat behind his back to stretch. You can see other players in the
background and it looks like he was caught warming up. I like it
because it doesn't look posed. WHat an amazing pack of cards.
Thank you, Lynn!

Now, I need to do some public thanks for a bunch of people who have sent me

some football, too, in several big trades); T.J. Vacalak (keeps hitting my '70s

everything, plus some great advice on OBC, too); Linda Fitak (I've been
'Fitaked' twice and my collection is a lot more diverse because of it -- anybody
collect1886 tobacco cards of German actresses?); Lynn Miller (a generousman
who sent me a couple hundred hits); Richard Dingman ('67 and '68 builders, plus
'70s hits); Randy Welk (some '70sfootball htis, plus '76 and '79 baseball);
Randy Griffin ('71 baseball hits); and Spike Glidden (a great collection of'60s

Rob sent me 10 hits from 1966 to go along with a couple of the Wally Yonamine
cards. This is the second time Rob has sent me some Yonamine cards as he
sent me some amazing ones from Japan a few months ago.

Pre-OBC (for me, anyway), Rob introduced me to Wally through his book. I had
seen a display about Wally at the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame while on vacation
a few years ago. Then Rob's book came out and I bought it immediately.
It is sensational and I thank Rob not only for the cards but for putting
Wally's amazing story in the spotlight. He certainly deserves it.

By the way, there is now an extensive Wally Yonamine exhibit located at theHonolulu
Airport. Read Rob's book, then impress your family with your knowledge
the next time you're out there!

Thanks Rob!!

Lynn Miller attacks the new 1963 Topps list, sending 25 big hits!
Highlights include Bill Virdon and an Aaron, Tommie, that is. As
usual, these cards look way too nice to be in my collection, or at
least in my 63s. I was hoping to put together the worst 1963 Topps
set ever assembled, but Lynn is single-handedly trying to keep this
one respectable. Lynn also sends an unmentionable (yet highly cool!)
addition to the Dale Murphy collection. Thanks a ton Lynn!

Here's a public thanks to Linda Fitak, from whom I received anenvelope of
on Saturday.

She supplied single hits on '59, '60, '61, '62 and '65 Topps baseball sets,
plusher usual unusual stuff, including a Don Cardwell from the Mets Commorative
Card Colletion, a Harry Wright from The Origins of Baseball, some whales, a
space ship, a butterfly, a Nestle card that has a picture of a car with the
writing in Spanish on the back, and some kind of Western cartoon sticker thing.

Thank you, Linda!

Oh, and by the way, I introduced Brian to Drago's famous char-grilled oysters.

OBC World,
When I say the pleasure was all mine...I mean it!
As suspected and mentioned many times before, an hour with a OBCer makes you
feel like you've been pals for years!
Somehow I will figure out how to drag MikeeOystersandCoffeeeDude-amanti to Drago's
http://www.dragosrestaurant.com/oysters.htm for that very importantresearch
that Father Pat and I started. After the 2 dozen and a Po'Boy each,
we weren't sure if we could research any longer...so I went back on Friday
with one of my cable buddies, researched 2 more dozen...

Back to meeting Father Pat...a very generous, kind gentleman. He drove downto
meet me at my hotel and we had the obligatory OBC cardboard swap!
#18 in the OBC card set is our subject here, the Slugging New Orleans Padre!
I've collected several of these heroes in the past...what is the full checklist,
does anyone know?

In that same pile there was room for 69 Lum Harris, 54 Eddie Mayo, 58 BobbyThomson!,
61s of Jim Golden and Dick Groat AS and 57 Gil Hodges!

Outstanding cards and and outstanding hour chatting with a great OBCer! Thanks
so much!
