Two were from a Tipton 54 Bowman set I'm working on and two from a little better set. A while ago I picked up a bunch of nicer 54 Bowman Baseball, so I decided to split into collecting two sets. These are no doubt my easiest 50's sets to hit. A few packages are outbound and I'm going to try to get a few more out today. November is shaping up to be a huge travel month for me. Hopefully the H1N1 doesn't derail the plans. Yes, I actually did get a free ticket from a street "dealer" for Tuesday's second game against the Twins. I was sure it was some sort of scam, so I went first, and by golly's it got me into the stadium. I walked quickly away from entrance. The other package this week came on Thursday just as I was walking out the door to go to the Tigers vs Twins game. The return address was RJL from Blaine, MN. I thank you greatly!

Now, yesterday's mail brought another nice envelope too. This time, the
man to thank is BOB DONALDSON, who sends in a T205, a set that I haven'thit
in years! Ira Thomas of the Philadelphia Athletics, with a Polar Bearback

what a great Saturday surprise! Thank you very much Bob!

I hope all your NFL teams win today, gang, and that your baseball teams (well,
maybe except the Yankees) do too!

All the best,

Thanks to Peter for a stack of 13 from 1960 Topps. I started this set
when my half-brother brought a box of cards home that one of his
buddies had saved from his childhood. I never did much with it except
marvel at the cards of Sandy Koufax, Hank Aaron, Bob Gibson, and
Mickey Mantle - that is until I joined OBC. Rick is 16 years older and
had a group of rowdy friends who used to torment me, so it was a
surprise to get anything from Rick or from one of his gang that
actually matched something I did. Anyway, the envelope of cards
reminded me of that day in probably 1972 when Rick handed me a shoebox
with cards in it from his buddy Steve Iversen (really). Thanks, Peter

RICH NIESSEN and SPIKE GLIDDEN are the first to hit my newly posted 1952 Topps

card is not exactly pack fresh, but it fits in perfectly with my collection.
Spike sends over three hits. Marlin Stuart has some real crisp corners.
As I flip him over, it looks like a previous owner practiced underlining
and circling. There are 17 underlines and 23 circles on the back of Stuart.
Truly a one of a kind card. Someone must have been a little upsetwith
Sam Zoldak, as his card is torn at the top, and looks like it was seton
fire in the bottom left corner. Jack Phillips rounds out the trio. The
Pirate has had the borders removed for easy fit into a 9 pocket sheet. Spike,
great hits. Again, these fit right in. Thanks to both of you for the
additions. It was pretty cool putting these cards in the binder tonight.

Actually, these cards from Anthony Arbeeny arrived a long time ago and reminded me of great adventures. Well, I guess to a 10 or 11 year old in 1977, collecting a set of Star Wars cards could be called an adventure. I remember finally completing the blue series including the stickers, only to discover that they had already come out with red, yellow, orange, and probably a couple other colors by the time I got around to finishing it. I eventually sold my Star Wars set to the kid across the street (who claimed to have seen the movie in the neighborhood of 116 times - and I had yet to view it even once) for the then princely sum of $25. Who would've thought that some non-sport set would be worth more than a nickel anyway? Anyway, some 25 years or so later, I'm sitting in a room with Steve Rittenberg among others who were attending the Philly Show and looking through a box of non-sport cards and decided (was strongly urged by Steve) to start a non-sport set. I decided reclaiming the one non-sport set I had as a kid would be a good idea, and another addition to my list was created. I'm not sure if Ant was in attendance at that particular show, but he did point out to me at some point that there were variations for every card in the set - so now I was basically collecting TWO of the same set. Well, with these cards I'm back to one set again - actually there's only one CARD left on my list (#58 with one star) and two stickers to reclaim my Star Wars set. THANKS ANT!! Also joining the set were Gary Carter's rookie card (Catchers-Outfielders? Huh?), Vida Blue, rookie pitchers, Victory Leaders Catfish/Fergie/Messersmith/Niekro, Batting Leaders Carew (bad mustache!) and Garr, and 56 MVPs the Mick and Campy! But Lynn has a little inner conflict about setting priorities, because he also sent 11 1973 Topps, also a batch of great hits, and by the way, ALL HIGH NUMBERS! Geez, where DOES he get all these cards? Rookie pitchers, rookie outfielders (though no catchers) with Gary Matthews, a coach by the nameof Durocher, and a Twins Team Card made the trip. Lynn, I've said it before and I'm likely to say it again: You da Man! Seriously. It was always interesting to watch the Canadian version of the Olympic games.  Our own resident of Hamilton seems to be lighting up the thanks server lately.
Eaglebeak Row has also received an incredibly generous stack of cards from Gord Ellis--with a pile of 1971 OPCs, a couple of 1976 OPCs, one of the last 1977 OPCs on my list (none other than Yaz), four early 1950 bowmans and a couple of 1962 Civil War News cards.
Some stack--and what goes around comes around.

Thanks for about the 500th time to Mark Talbot for a short stack of 1971 OPCs.  A neat set from my era of buying cards--paper routes and disposable income.....
Mark, I think I am still ahead, no maybe you are ahead--you know  I don't really care one way or the other, but I do know it is my turn to bat.  Ahhhhh, the beauty of OBC!

I have often tucked Brock's list into my brief case when I attend the local shows just in case I might find something for him. Recently, I was able to pick up a "vintage" item for Brock and made the traditional OBC frontal assault most commonly referredto as the RAOK. However, as is always Brock's custom he allows me tosavor the moment of being "ahead" in the game for just a short while - this timefor a brief 24 hour period. Somehow, Brock has used that ESP he must be developing in his retirement to slip in the mail, nearly simultaneously, a pre-empted strike on my want-list. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Hattox I now have in my hands a `39 - `46 Salutations Exhibit (Keller) and (5) `62 Stat Back Exhibits (Burdette, Francona, Gentile, Pappas andSiebern)to add to my collection. So it is back to the drawing board to plan the next attack on Brock's list. I see that Brock has added `35 Goudey and `54 Red Heart to the list, perhaps I will be lucky enough to come across some of these before Brock "corners the market"and buys up every card he can find from these issues.
