Mom's funeral was on Friday. A very sad, but highly dignified occasion which was attended by our small family and many good friends and acquaintances. Seeing many of these old faces for the first time in ages really helped me through the day as they reminded me of so many good times across the years. I can't say enough about the support that I was given throughout this by my wife Maureen. She has steadied my ship on more than one occasion. I think of Mom every day and miss her so much. Its good to have my lovely wife's shoulder to lean on. Hopefully, life will begin to get back to normal over the course of the next few weeks. Thanks out today to: John Scott Gray - John hits the hockey lists with a trio of 70/71 Topps, and a further trio from the 72/73 set Bob Donaldson - Bob hits the dwindling 1960T set with a YAZ RC!! Can you believe that? OK, so its not in the greatest of condition. The rightmost 55% of the card is in EX, and of the remainder 35% is poor, and the other 10% is just, well, missing. But hey, its a Yaz RC and it will certainly fill the gap in the binder until something better comes along!! Just for good measure, Bob also sends 3 1970T football, and a pair of early 1970s Detroit Lions stamps (Lem Barney & Errol Mann) TJ Valacak - TJ picked up and forwarded some cards to me from Kurt Tourdot at The National. As well as the cards from Kurt, TJ included one or two of his own, including a 1970T Super Stottlemyre, 2 1964 hi#s, and a pair of UV Tigers. Mike Mroz - Mike and TJ must have hooked up at The National as he also stuck an item in the box from Kurt, a postage stamp from Grenada featuring Tigers great Al Kaline On top of all that, there were also numerous ebay wins such as a Bobby Thomson Exhibit, a 68/69 OPC Gary Unger RC, a 68/69 OPC Gordie Howe AS, and a 67/68T Alex Delvecchio. beautiful, well-loved 54T Duane Pillette, 57T Gerry Snyder, 59T Vada

I just have to make a comment about this card. I have included a few
German large cards of the 1936 Olympics in the cards I sent to several
OBCers. I included them because the Olympics was recent. You would
think there would be a lot of interest in these cards because of the
Olympics. Oddly not- at least at the local card shop bid board. There
were a bunch of these cards on the bid board recently put up by a
seller probably wanting to capitalize on the Olympic games.
But.. I won all the cards he put up AND uncontested (no one else bid on
them!) for 25 cents each.
You might say ..sure, but are there any known athletes on the cards you
YES, one of the cards pictures Jesse Owens and I won it for 25 cents!

We are taking turns watching the storms roll through. First it was the gulf
coast now the southeast coast. We have Hanna heading our way tonight andit
should be over by tomorrow afternoon. We may get lucky as the winds are"only"
70 mph. Stick your hand out the car window at 70 and you know thatis
still a lot of force. The worst hurricane that I have been through was a

forced me to hold off on any card activity until today. A lot of
cardboard coming to the Western burbs of Chicago. Thanks to the
following OBCers.

PETER MEAD hits my 53 Bowman set with a "Rough Edged Joe Nuxhall".
He may be missing a little bit of paper, but he's filling a hole in
my set. Thanks Peter!

ANDY COOK sends over a Joel Horlen card from the Marathon Oil set.
It's nice to add a card from this set for my Red Sox/White Sox
collection. Thanks Andy!

RICK LYONS sends over a six pack of cards for my 75 Topps mini set.
Included is Topps all-star Larry Milburne. Growing up, I loved
seeing that trophy on cards. Thanks Rick!

Also thanks to LYNN MILLER, JOHN STAMPER, SPIKE GLIDDEN, and PETER
MEAD again for sending some great uv cards for sets and the Sox.

Thank you Gents! Have a great weekend,

We are taking turns watching the storms roll through. First it was the gulf
coast now the southeast coast. We have Hanna heading our way tonightand
it should be over by tomorrow afternoon. We may get lucky as the winds
are "only" 70 mph. Stick your hand out the car window at 70 and you know
that is still a lot of force. The worst hurricane that I have been through

Huge prewar thanks to Mark Talbot for finishing off my T218 set! He sent the elusive Sutton, portrait. I've been working on this set for somewhere between 12-15 years. It's one of my favorite prewar sets, full of track stars, swimmers, competitive walkers, a roller skater, pool players, pilots, boxers, golfers and bowlers. I found the golfers, bowlers and pool players to be the most difficult to locate, although none of the cards are extremely rare or expensive. I'm now going to put Sutton in his empty spot in the album and review the set once more. Thanks Mark!

Hello All,

Time has just slipped away for me the past few weeks and these fellow traders certainly deserved better than I these very late acknowledgments. Over the past 10 days or so envelopes and packages have been piling up and I have finally gotten some time to thanks the following fine members.

Andy Cook surprises me to pick up a T-206 card for the collection with Otto Knabe of Philadelphia. It is so nice to pick these up from my collecting friends, thanks so much Andy!!!

Spike Glidden finds a few T-206 cards to pass in my direction with Moose McCormick and Emil Batch. I do not see too many of these and it’s great to add them whenever I can – Thanks Matthew!!!

Aaron Shirley finds a SCP and passes along a `94 Conlon Burgundy card of Babe Pinelli to add to my collection. I use to find these cards all over the place but they have become rather scarce. Thanks Aaron.

Frank Thomas (The Original) sends me (3) separate envelopes w/a total of 13 Topps insert cards with dates too new to discuss here but Frank has been busy with the packages friends.

Mac Wubben helps me out with some variations from `53 Topps (Walker Black bio) and `54 Bowman (Mele & Friend). These pesky variation cards are fun to chase and great to get in the mailbox – Thanks Mac!!!

I continue to get packages out but as most of you know it's hard to keep pace with the generous members of this fine organization. Thanks to all - BE WELL!!!

After thinking that I'd finished my 1980 Topps set a couple months

these sets often popping up as Bosox or Tigers?), I updated my

Lynn Miller had sent along Reggie and a Phillies team card as what
should have nailed the coffin shut on that list.

I shouldn't be surprised that the final piece to that is my 1980 Topps

Mark Talbot. Wait it's not even my birthday!! Always great to be surprised by Mark and this was no exception. A well-read paperback on Hank finds its way to Vegas. Good, some light and enjoyable reading while I spin the slots. At least now I can feel good about losing some money. Also a Tiger card. And some cool end labels from 1940's Tip Top bread loaves which I guess would have contained a baseball card when they were purchased. Maybe Mark wants me to start collecting another 1947 birthyear set??? I hope not, just happy with one birthyear set.But if these would have anyspecial significance to someone, I'd be happy to send them along. They've got to be a vintage collector's item for sure. Mark sent9 of them since they conveniently fit in the pockets of a 9 card page. Thanks Mark foryour extremethoughtfulness as has become customary with your packages. Bob D'Angelo sent me a special sports insert from the Tampa Tribune. Many of you might not know that I lived in Tampa for about 18 months in the early 90's right after I retired from the Navy. And like most places we have lived, retain a fond memory of the local teams. In fact I attended a minor league Yankees game with Jeter at SS just before he was called up forhis major league debut. their generosity:

Brian Betza sent me 1974 Topps and a great stack of 1975 Topps to

Rick Lyons hit me with 1968 Topps Game, 1969 Topps, and went to town on
attacking my 1972 Topps, 1978 Topps, and 1979 Topps wants. It's
rewarding to see those wants getting deleted. Thanks, Rick.

Linda Fitak sent me one of her famous "Fitak Surprise Bundles" which
included 1960 Topps, 1963 Topps, 1966 Topps, and 1967 Topps. The unique
extras were greatly appreciated, and serve as a reminder that it's OK
to have baseball cards as your favorite thing to appreciate, but there
are other special treasures in the world to admire and save. Linda's
generosity and thoughtfulness should be appreciated by all of us.

Subject: Thursday Two-fer

It's always a special day when two OBC
envelopes arrive in your mail box simultaneously. Of course, this only
places me even further into OBC debt, and once again reminds me it's
time to get moving on that issue! (Lame excuse: a freak cyclocross
incident last Sunday has during warm-ups for a local race left me with 18
stitches in my ankle, and I am at the same time changing jobs this
coming week, so I do have some other things rattling around my
brain!). But enough of that gibberish.....
BRIAN BETZA starts off with seven hits to my OBC-only 1966 Topps set. This was one of my "missing years" as a kid, and I have no idea why. I collected heavily in '65 and '67, but not '66. So I always enjoy seeing what I missed out on first time around.
MIKE RUMLEY-WELLS follows with a wonderful SCP to one of those seldom hit sets....  1962 Salada coins. Mike sends the red button variation of Ken McBride. These were a favorite of mine as a kid. Not because I remember collecting them (I was only five years old), but because I remember stealing them from my ten year old brother. They fascinated me, and big bro' was none to happy with having to constantly guard his hoard from his pesty little brother.
Thanks Mike, Thanks Brian!

Tonight I'm thanking GLENN CODERE and MIKE MROZ, both of whom showed
generosity above and beyond the call.

Glenn hit me with a 1964 Topps RBI Leaders with Hank Aaron on it.
That would be giving enough, but Glenn actually got it on ebay and
since he didn't need it, had it sent directly to someone who did.
Glen, that was terrific of you and it's a sweet card!

Mike sent an envelope jammed with hits and a note saying these were
give-aways from the National that he snagged for me. First of all,
that was really great of you, Mike, thinking of me! Second, I've
gotta guess you threw in some yourself, unless some dealer(s) giving
away cards in NM condition. I think only our group does that! Others
were pretty clearly Tipton Mint--I like the one's that have been
personalized. I can picture some kid making that "his" card by
writing his name over the player's...I'd love to be able to talk to
that guy now.
Mike continues his streak of sending me great and favorite players:
Morgan, Kaline, Frank Howard, Tug McGraw, and a pitcher name of Cy
Young who had 511 wins. (How the heck is that possible?) Mike hit
Topps 59, 62, 63, 68, and 71-75.

Thanks a ton, Glenn and Mike, for a great dose of cardboard-inspired

Blessings on y'all and have a great weekend,
