Hello All, Tonight a small FOOT contingency greeted Peter Mead who spent the day in Detroit on business. The last time Peter was out we went to a ball game but of course after last nights MLB show there was no baseball in Mo-town so we took in a local show and dinner at a local eatery. The show is the "home show" of my favorite dealer Harold O but for the past three week OBC friendly dealer Mike Sandles has set up meaning there was a plethora of vintage cardboard to be had. I arrived last in our group, a little after 6 pm and didn't have much time to "graze" but still ended up with a stack of Hockey cards from Harold and a box of of cards from Mike that he had put together for me after a conversation we had last week. That box has a number of items I will be mentioning on another server but it did contain (14) cards that I needed for my collection among them a `51 Bowman Hodges, a `63 Post Maris and Snyder and some upgrades and Post SP's but most importantly a `59 Bob Gibson RC to replace the "one that got away" at Mike's table some time ago. Of course the reason for getting together was to hang out with Peter and that we did. After the show we went across the street for dinner and some cardboard was shared around the table. Peter handed me (3) `53 Bowman B&W's with Tiger Matt Batts and a `62 Post Canadian Jim Landis. Mike Rich handed me a nice little grouping with a `52 Topps Cloyd Boyer, a `58 Topps Bobby Richardson yellow letter, a `71 Milk Dud B. Roby, (3) `62 Post FB, a `68 Topps FB Stand up Gabriel, a `71 Kellogg's FB Barrington, a `73-74 Topps Basketball card (only Chamberlain remains) and (2) pesky `77-78 Topps Basketball grey backs. The conversation at the table ranged from baseball, to ballparks, to the National and everything in between. Mike Mroz ended up picking up the tab and we spent about 2-3 hours together in OBC fellowship. Thanks guys for a very enjoyable evening, oh and the cardboard was nice too. BE WELL!!! Peter promptly handed me a stack of cardboard, ranging from '63-'71, including one the was "signed" by one of his brother's childhood friends. Fred Newman - what a great card! A short time later, Mich Rich showed up and the three of us perused the goodies to be had. When Mark arrived, he too handed me a nice stack of 68 & 69 Topps. The show was nice, but it was great to retire to a nearby eatery and spend a couple of hours sharing stories of baseball and cardboard. I also arrived home to find an envelope from Brian Betza in my mailbox. He sent a half-dozen 70's football, including a 75 Bob Griese and also the NL SO leaders from the 72 Topps set. Lynn Miller also send some waiver wires, 57 to be exact! - Football style - miid-late 70's with names like Griffin, Dierdorf, Jaworski, Zorn, Gradishar, Griese and Simpson. It's not an OBC law firm - but a trio of generous members who I'd
like to thank today.

Let's start with CHICO - Sal Domino to those of you not wise in the
way of OBC nicknames (although, to be honest, Sal more closely
resembles Groucho.) Sal sends "a guy named Lew" to the Midwest. I
figured Burdette, but to my surprise found a 1970/71 NBA Rebounds
Leaders card with Lew Alcindor, among others. Thanks Sal!

JAZZ, of course, refers to Linda Fitak. Linda & I had a nice chat
session the other night, and yesterday a Fitak Pak arrived. Sports
cards included a 62 Topps FB for that all-OBC set, a 53 Topps, a 54
Bowman, and a 66 Topps nosebleeder. Also along for the ride were a
couple of more recent baseball cards, and some German tobacco cards,
including a dupe of one of Linda's favorites - a German actor. Linda,
thanks much for the cards & for the chat!

Finally, SNAKE - Mark Talbot for you rookies - sends some Dealer Scum
cards (a 54 Topps Rosen & a 59 Felipe Alou rookie, which means I got
a Flip and a Felipe), and chaperoning those 2 was a selection of 5
early 70's Topps hockey cards. Thanks Mark - payment will be headed
north tomorrow!

Found a few hits at Mike Sandles table inclucing a 61 high number and a couple of 62 Jellos (always love finding those). Thanks to Mr. Talbot for a 50 low number and a 51 high number Bowmans among a short stack of other cards. Then Mark pulls a 63 Post Bunning from a box that Mike (too many Mikes in this thread) Sandles saved for Mark. Unbelievable old friend!

A large thanks to Mike Mroz for picking up dinner--which was completely unecessary. Seems I might have to see what else I can find in my dup box. Great conversation and always a thrill to meet another OBCer.

The end of the evening was spent at the Rich Museum and cardboard hostel. Looked through a number of boxes, thousands of dups and some of Mike's prized possessions. Thanks for the hospitality, the cards (milk duds Thurman Munson, 53 B&W Bob Kuzava, 62 Fleer football, and four large hits to my 77 OPC set--only Brett, Yount, and two other HOFers.

didn't want to be "just a dealer" so he gave me those guys and a fistful
of great 69s, which is perilously close to becoming a wantlist--3 more
cards! PLUS, he tossed in two 54 Bowman, one from him and one from
this swell (actual) dealer, whose name is also Mike, apparently.
It took me a little while to figure out what had been done to those
cards. How common were "glossies?" I understand that doesn't do much
for their resale value, but I like them; they're safe from me nicking
the corners. ;-)

Ed Schott granted me a waiver wire wish plus several more--Topps 1969,
1971 and 1972 medium high numbers and a 73 checklist. Ed capped it off
with a 1973 Jackson (which may have been printed slightly later). By my
standards, these are hard cards to get, so thanks a ton, Ed.

All these great cards and an education, too! Thanks, OBC-Folk.

Subject: Recent and (record setting?) overdue thanks

Thanks go out to Lynn Miller for a recent envelope containing some hits in response to my "sets I thought I had finished" wantlist and hits to some other sets. Lynn sends a pair of 1970s, six 1972s, the one 1973 I neededto finish that set (again), a single hit to 1976, and a pair each for 1978and 1979.

Now for the possibly record setting overdue thanks. Last weekend I was doing some cleaning and sorting and went through a pile of magazines and such in a hidden corner of the house. In said pile I uncovered three OBC envelopes from 2006.

I'm too scared (and a little lazy) to check the group archives to see if these were acknowledged back in 2006.

Linda Fitak sent a pair of 1964s, plus a couple of Cricket cards and a couple of the usual miscellaneous cool things that Linda always seems to send out. The postmark was not readable, so I don't know when this was sent.

Jeff Sinclair sent a SCP in the form of a 1962. The postmark wasJuly 13, 2006.

Mark Talbot sent me some items for my 38th birthday which included a nice note and a trio if 1964s.

Met up with MikeRich, Mark Talbot and Mike Mroz at the wednesday show in Detroit last week. It is always great to see Mike and Mark and it was a true pleasure to meet Mr.MrOZ for the first time. As you know, Glenn is across the pond in Scotland. He has graciously started me with a nice little Hearts of Midlothian collection. He adds to that with two great pieces. First is a card from the 59-60 season picturing Alex Young. Apparently, the company that made the card was a sister company of Topps. The card looks like a 59 baseball card. He also includes a 4x6 picture of the 1938-39 Hearts team. Glenn, these are great cards. Thank you so much. I did pick up your box today and if anyone picks anything up for Glenn, feel free to hand it off to me and I will include it in the mailing. Finally, some National thanks. SAL DOMINO not only hands off a dealer badge to get me in the show, but he throws two 73 checklists my way. The Padres and Rnagers have been added to the binder.
