Like last year, I'm sending a big thanks to Mark Talbot for a birthday package. Mark is amazing in that he sends birthday cards to everyone in the group. Mark sent along a couple of Tigers Topps cards and two Tigers schedules. While I don't have my want list posted, Mark still managed to send a couple of cards of Pudge Rodriguez who was my favorite player during his Rangers days. Another of many Rangers blunders when they let him leave. Anyway, Mark, you're a gem for doing what you do, and I appreciate it very much. ROB GIOIA sent me a waiver wire of a 69 Jerry Koosman All Star card.

MAC WUBBEN who is still suffer from the collapse of Memphis in the NCAA
ease my pain with 3 1970 T of Diego Segui and 2 checklist. I also got
from Mac although not sure they were meant for me was a tobaacco card
of Doolin and a Mecca trifild card as I dont have those on my list. I
do collect random tobacco cards. If these need to go to someone else
Mac let me know and I will mail them to the guy.

BRIAN BETZA also sends some NCAA UPgrades with 4 from 1968 including

He showed me a number of recent hits and I was able to show him what I

Hello All,

It's always a pleasure to "walk" Mike in from his Toronto trips. He usually gives me a call when he hits the US border and we talk about his trip for the final leg of his journey. I suppose it helps to ward off driving fatigue but I enjoy the conversations. Last Sunday Mike decided to stop off at my home since he had left Toronto early and it's always fun to check out the items that Mike finds during his trips. One of the highlights Mike shared was (4) more `52 Topps HI numbers that he needed, the only one's I have ever seen belong to Mike as I do not own one as of yet. Mike claims that his Toronto trips are not as fruitful as they use to be but the 1000 or so cards that he showed me would be a major find for many of us. Mike allowed me to pull a `74 OPC card of Dick Allen from a rather large group of `74's that he picked up and I suppose he will probably check my early `70's OPC hockey lists to match up some hits to those sets with another larger group of dupes that Mik
e picked up. So thanks to Mike for one of those elusive OPC hits - BE WELL!!!

Hello All,

Many thanks to the following traders for finding the time to ship me come items for my collection. Thanks to:

Anthony Arbeeny who connects with a pair of `54 Bowman Football cards, both Philadelphia Eagles with Ken Farragut and Pete Pihos. These sets are getting harder and harder to hit so to knock off a couple is huge - Thanks Ant-man!!!

Bill Ashton selects a "hodgepodge" of stuff to send my way with Hockey, Baseball and Football cards. The (5) Hockey cards hit my `80's Topps Hockey sets and the rest are "oddball cards" that I really like. These are really cool Bill.

Brian Betza slips me a `55 Bowman Bob Talbot for my favorite players collection and a `62 Fleer Football card of Raiders Halfback George Fleming. A couple of great hits for the collection from good old Brian.

Rob Gioia allows me to claim a few `63 Jello cards in beautiful OBC condition from the waiver wire. I still need plenty of these but slowly but surely I'm making progress thanks to traders like Rob - Thanks buddy!!!

Finally, John McLaughlin decides that he can't wait till the next FOOT get together to send me a `53 Topps black letter version of Wayne Terwilliger with a newspaper cartoon od Twig and this years Toledo Mud Hens sked. I believe that John is probably sending a subtle message that another Mud Hens game would be a GREAT FOOT get-together for future consideration. I'm considering it John, so thanks for the neat stuff.

It is always fun to receive items in the mail from my friends out there in old cardboard land - Thanks for thinking of me.

had great surprises. I got envelopes from Brian Betza and Linda Fitak.

Brian hit my Topps 73, 74 and 76 sets, but funny thing is "the
highlight" was every card! 73 Phil Niekro, 74 Carew, Stargell, Fergie
(baseball royalty, not British), Palmer & Seaver ERA leaders 76 Morgan
and Concepcion! (Did you know Joe Morgan is only 5'7"? Rise up, short
people of the world!) Those 70s stars are my favorites and that was
an all-star team! Thank you, Brian!

Then I got a first-hand experience of a Linda Fitak smorgasboard.
Whoa. I've read about these (JD just described his), but getting one
is amazing. Linda nailed great hits to my 54 Bowman, and 53, 54, 55,
58, 60, 64, 65, 67, AND 68 Topps lists. All this for a waiver wire
request for the 54 Bowman!

But that's not all. Linda also hit me with Charlie's Angels,
Partridge Family, Boxing, Rocky II, Brady Bunch, Tron, flowers, flags,
Olympic Challenge UK, Flintstones, Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe,
Michael Jordan, Shaq, Topps Gold Profile Bouton #25, Grease, and
Renata Galasso cards!!! Plus several in German (one is clearly
bobsledding) that I'll need to have my sister-in-law from Germany
translate for me. And a Darrel "Bucky" Brandon card which has me
completely baffled as to year, make and set. That was an astounding
package, Linda. I'm not promising to work hard on the Michael or
Marilyn sets, but I see now what a true card collecting enthusiast
does! And I have a few non-sports cards from my childhood that I'll
dig up for you, too.

Thanks, Brian and Linda. I can't believe how much more I look forward
to mail time since joining this group!

extended to 3 OBCers who were kind enough to send cardboard my way. I
wish to ensure BILL ASHTON, RAY LUURS & BRIAN BETZA that my tardy thanks
is not a reflection of my gratitude, but rather a combination of a busy
schedule, s__t happens & a bit of old fashioned lollygaging.

Most recently, I am pleased to report that I was included in Brian's
mass mailings. Thanks out to Brian the 58 Friend & the 67 Hodges for my
HOM/HOF binder. Actually, in my humble opinion his rightful place should
be in my HOF binder. Of the many things that challenge this feeble mind,
the induction criteria the selection committee utilizes is among the top
three. C'est La Vie! Yes Brian, your RAOK was a ray of sunshine & did in
fact brighten an otherwise gray day

Speaking of Ray, Thanks also to Mr. Luurs for a most welcome NCAA pool
payoff. My appreciation is twofold. First I am aware that Ray went to
considerable lengths to procure said payoff, inclusive of placing
himself at the mercy of another mind boggler, the Canadian mail system.
Secondly, I have yet to payoff my NCAA Tourney debts to him and others
due to a paucity of presently available hits to wantlists. Thanks much
Ray for a PSA mint 9 Joe Coleman 72 Kellogg's & another Kellogg's
Coleman that allows me to scratch the 74s off my Tiger sets list. Along
for the ride was a Psycho for my all OBC 72T venture. I am indeed
grateful for your generosity. The mailman cometh, albeit a slightly
further delay.

It is said that the first shall be last, so it is with Grampa Ashton,
due only to the fact that his envelope contained cardboard to be
acknowledged elsewhere.

With final exams over and final grades in for all my students (some happy, some

Anthony Arbeeny starts off this edition of thanks with a five pack of mixedcardboard,
including two from 74-75 Topps hockey, and some baseball in theform
of a 60 back variation, a 70 OPC, and what he believes might be a 1973
variation (my birth year set). It=92s the Doug Griffin card that has a little
purple around his hand (96) =96 his version matches mine, so I guess we
need to have an APB for a version of the card without the purple! Variation
or not =96 the card is always appreciated AA!

Gary Mandell hits me with three separate flats in one day =96 combining forten
hits to my Kellogg=92s lists, highlighted by a Yaz! Great stuff Gary!

Peter Mead hits two lists with two cards each, sending two from the 70 OPC set
(including a favorite of mine - Vada Pinson), and two from the 52 Bowman
set (including baseball patriarch Ray Boone)! Great stuff Peter!

Lynn Miller hits me with more 70 OPCs, sending a seven pack including Tim McCarver!
Great hits Lynn =96 they are great!

Thunder Dan Austin hits me with some old hoops cards (three, including a 75checklist)
and some uv baseball! Great mixture Dan =96 thanks!

Ken Goetsch was kind enough to pass along one of his basketball starter sets,
with Elvin Hayes and Moses Malone including among the 52 hits! Thanks Ken
for being so kind enough to offer these up!

Kevin Martens keeps the Goudey express going by sending twenty two hits from
a uv set that seems to look a good deal like the vintage standby! Thanksfor
the big group of helping hits!

Rick Lyons ends this group of owed thanks as he sends a three sport puffy with
five 1964 Topps coins, nine 1975 Topps football cards, and a SCP from the
72-73 Basketball set! Its always a pleasure opening a puffy from you Rick

cards. A '56 Jackie Jensen was wrapped between a few hi #'s from '64
and the rest of them - a plethora of the neat stuff ranging from Rocky II,
Partridge Family, Kiss, Happy Days and a lot more that has become known as
the "Fitak Pack".
Just like the potato chip saying - You just cannot have 1 potato chip, you gotta
have a pile of 'em. Same for the "Fitak Pack".
Thanks Linda for the neat cardboard.

Davey Lopes, Larry Bowa (can't believe he's coaching for the Dodgers, almost
as bad as Durocher managing the Giants!), HOFers Fergie Jenkins and Phil
Niekro, and Jack Clark. Brian also sent in Ted Simmons and Mike Flanagan,

I met up with only 1 other OBCer at the Redford show today. Mike Rich
was already perusing the wares at Mike Sandles table when I got there a
few minutes early. After exchanging pleasantries, Mike handed me a
nice stack of cards. Included were a 74 Kelloggs, 15 66 Topps, a 69
Topps and a 78 BK Tigers Ralph Houk. Unfortunately I didn't get a
chance to pull any cards before heading to the show, so I'm gonna have
to try and find some payback for Mike, which can be a tough search.

I had a great show, and found lots of great hits. I even picked up my
first 71 Milk Duds card, and a stack of 75 Hostess with some stars -
figure I may as well start that one too!

All in all, a great time and, as always, it was nice to see Mr. Rich

Thanks to JOEL, BRIAN, MARK and BILL!

JOEL GYSELINCK sent a stack of TWENTY high numbers from the 1965 Topps

BRIAN BETZA sent a 1966, four 1967s, two 1970s and a 1972. A couple
of team cards for my team binder, thanks BRIAN!

MARK TALBOT sent some very special names, including Bob Shirley, Pete
Rose, Nolan Ryan, Mike Schmidt, Reggie Jackson, Eddie Murray... all
too new to specify, but very nice stuff nonetheless. Also included
was a 2007 All-Star ballot. Cool stuff, thanks, MARK.

BILL ASHTON sent a nice hefty box, stuffed to the gills with
too-new-to-mention stuff, but it included a lot of vintage-themed
stuff, so it really made my day.

These great guys also included some very nice notes with the cards,
which means a lot to me. I really appreciate all the cardboard, but
much more I appreciate that y'all are thinking of me. Thank you so
much. Thanks to OBC.

PS I have some good news over on the ramblings server, which I will

I really want to thank Mike Rich for a package in today's mail. You may
remember that Mike was at the Toronto show a while back and offered the group his

a great price to bring my '54 list down to one card - the Aaron. If that
wasn't enough, Mike also included some pretty nice traveling companions for Ernie
in the package - a '63 Fleer Ruben Amaro and, believe it or not, a '65 Topps
Embossed Mantle! That cuts my Embossed list to four cards - 4/8/28/59. I
always thought the Mantle would be the last to go, but Mike proved my wrong.

Much appreciated, Mike.

Hello All,

I have returned from my trip with my wife and happy to be home. Upon my arrival home I found an envelope from the New York Grand Hyatt which could only mean one thing - a recipe for vintage card happiness. Yes, former Chef Anthony sneaks a trio of `67 OPC baseball cards my way to make connections with my want list. John Buzzhardt, Paul Schaal and George Brunet have all been knocked off the list and added to the collection with compliments to our friend Mr. Arbeeny. BE WELL!!!

Anyway, thanks Linda for the '69 Dave Wickersham that I requested off

Subject: 3 packages or is it 4 Kiick start the weekend

As I sit here in stunned depression as my Pistons season came to a
stunning end by blowing a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter, I can at
least take solace in envelopes from Kit Okamuro and Andy Cook and 2 big
boxes from Bob D'Angelo. Kit sends along a 1972 NFLPA Fabric card of
Jim Kiick getting me 1 step closer (down to 15). Andy gets me to the
1/4 mark on the 1937-38 OPC Hockey set. Amazingingly I have about 1/3
of the major 1930s NHL card issues, which I have come to love. With
small sets, I am beginning to learn many of the names of the players,
even guys that were not stars. I had read a post a couple f weeks ago
about Bob having some Red & Green books. These are stat books with the
Red books being the American League and the Green books being National
League. Among the 17 books (now you know why there were 2 boxes) was
the elusive 1978 Red which completed a 28 year run of Red books. I
need 5 more to extend that to a 46 year run. I need a few more Green
books, but 11 hits to that list put a big dent. Thoughts of a 50 year
run for both leagues is not out of the question.
All 3 (4) packages were great!
