For those of you who don't remember, Ken, at age 23, was a rookie phenom in 1961 with the Cincinnati Reds. He pitched against the Yankees in Game 5 of the '61 series. Lynn Miller sent a few 62 & 63 Tpps, including a 63 T Wilhelm for a buddy I owe. Ed Pike sent me my first 6 T-230 Pan Handle Scrap cards. Another set is added! Now all I need is a checklist. Don Rice sends a lucky 7 of my fav Coke caps. 2 of the last 5 65 AFL All-Stars and 5 of the last 9 of the 1965 version of this year's Super Bowl favorites. 1 of these was evena tough Sprite cap. Both Ed and Don graced their packages with some of the old BB Stamps. Brock sends along 1 of the last 4 62 Exhbiits I need, a 63 Exhbit, as I close in on 40% of that set and 4 minor shortprint issues to the big Exhbit set. This leaves me 2 shy of hitting the 200 mark. To think, just after I joined OBC, I gave away all my Exhibit cards to OBCers, and now I have just under 200 of the 336 in the set. I also worked out a few trades with non-OBCers, including a swap that resulted in my getting some more Coke caps to finish my 67 Senators & 64 Redskins, plus a few others. The last swap is someone I met through SCD's Collection corner section named Steve Magelli. If he contacts you he has my reference. He likes cards a little nicer than most OBCers, but he does have the OBC philospohy of wanting to make sure the other guy likes the swap at least as much as he does. Although I picked off some of his best dupes, he included an extra card to see if it qualified as a Tipton. I had to explain to him it was only poor and not a true Tipton. No holes, writing, tears or smells. Just really rough. I would bet close to 1/2 of OBC if not more than that, would want this card if I told you what it was. Not a bad week for the collection at all. I should be moving in to my own place within the next week with

My friends,

The last couple of weeks have seen some pretty significant changes to my want

even nicer when the changes come at the hands of great traders like:

Joel Gyselink, who sends two 1965 OPC hits my way from the great white north!
 Thanks for the DCP Joel!

Lynn Miller sends a nice sized stack of back variations for the 59 and 60 Topps
set, highlighted by former Atlanta Braves tv man Ernie Johnson! With twenty
hits in total, I think Lynn put my back out with his back variations!

Chuck Paris sends a few of his left-over 62 Stamps my way as a starter set! These
are the first 62 stamps in my collection, highlighted by Joe Torre,Rocky
Colavito and Jimmy Piersall! Thanks Chuck!

The House of Maxwell sends a group of fifteen recent (i.e. uv) cards my way=96
(although since they are modeled after the Allen and Ginter and 55 Bowman
sets, I do find myself quite confused indeed!) Regardless, thanks for the
helpers EEK!

Lastly, I do not believe that I have ever properly thanks Michael Mroz for an
amazing box of hockey cards he sent my way a couple of months ago! I still
have not had a chance to update my hockey lists because he sent so much!
Ranging from 69-70 to the uv 80s, his box of roughly 500 cards included just
about every big name in hockey over that span of time! I have a little
something set to head back Mike=92s way, but not nearly enough to thank him
for this smorgasbord of cardboard! Thanks Michael!

Thanks again all around!

Be happy,

If I woulda known how much fun winning a Super Bowl pool was, I'da done
it years ago.
As soon as I walked in the door from running some Saturday errands, my
happily announces "you got treasures". On the table were 8 envelopes
with that unmistakable "baseball cards inside" look. Here is the haul
from vintage forward:

From BOB DONALDSON comes a nice looking T-206 McIntyre. I have 7 of
these guys now and Mc is in by far the best shape albeit a bit shorter.
Thanks Bob, I really like it.

BROCK HATTOX sends me my very first Diamond Stars in the form of Jo Jo
White. Joynee is in pretty darn good shape as well. Very impressive
Brock, much thanks.

GLENN CODERE causes a 55 Redman of Ray Boone to be delivered to Grand
Blanc as well. As near as I can tell this is the last Redman Tiger I
need. Very cool, Thanks a lot my FOOT friend.

Grandpa BILL ASHTON sent 2 58Ts to that slowly shrinking list. Some of
you know that this is my all time favorite set, so seeing them pop out
of an envelope is always a "treasure". Thanks Bill.

Speaking of 58s, KEVIN MARTIN sends 3 more of those beauties for me to
check off the list. Steady progress, Thanks much Kevin.

Yet another 58 in the form of the Tigers Team card comes courtesy of
JOEL FREEDMAN. Joel also sends a hit for my 72t set. Much appreciated,
thanks Joel.

UNCLE GENO sends 8 psychos in hopes that I would find an "upgrade or
two". Obviously our flyboy has never seen my
ragtag collection of 72's. I found 4 of the 8 were upgrades. Pretty good
"hittin" Geno, your batting .500. I also enjoyed the stationary you
used, was that a niece or nephew? Whichever, I thought the portrait in
the lower left corner did you justice. Must have been in the days before
your military cut! Thank you Geno, for the cards and as always your
special touch!

A great day to all in OBC, stay warm!

Hello All,

We got record cold temperatures here in Southeastern Michigan and I finished my Public School Law course yesterday so today was a sit back and veg day. I finally got enough motivation to go downstairs and get some thanks out for some recently received items. So thanks to:

Joel Freedman sends a couple of shiny items for a set that hasn't been hit in many years - so thanks for helping me out Joel!!!

Ken Goetsch connects with (20) cards for the Year of the Month project getting me very close in that set. Thanks Ken!!!

Gary Mandell surprises me with a SCP from the `72 Topps Football set, a high numbered card of Tommy Nobis, I don't see many of these so it's great to pick one up in the mail. Thanks Gary!!!

Fellow FOOT member John McLaughlin sends the #1 card in the `59 Fleer Ted Williams set to help me get just one more closer to the end of that set.

T.J. Valacak sends with (47) cards for the Year of the Month project getting me very close in that set. Thanks T.J.!!!

A few eBay lots and a meeting with friend Rob Church added a couple hundred cards to the dupes so I will be getting more out in the coming days, so be on the lookout friend - BE WELL!!!

OBC items. Mark doubles my T218 collection. This collection was
started back in September of 2006 when Erik Greenwood sent me a pair.
Although I have not pursued these feverishly, I have lost out on more
than a few lots of these on ebay. TOday, Mark sends over CM Daniels
and WJ Keating. Mark also sends over a train cd to add to my non sport
train collection. Thanks for the hits Mark! And thanks to EEK as well.

Hello All,
I got a couple of items in the mail to start off the week and I hit another milestone. Thanks to:
Bill Ashton ships me a slabbed vintage specimen from the `40 Playball set to Southeastern Michigan. HOF'er Jimmie Foxx form that set is now a part of my collection with big kudos to Mr. Ashton.
Tom Housley who sends (2) envelopes with (14) cards from the Year of the Month project. Way to go Tom!!!
The next package was from an eBay seller in Canada who shipped me a copy of the `62 Topps Bob Uecker card to complete that set. I will be breaking it free from its slabbed plastic tomb to join the others in my collection and will give Mike Weir (from VCT) credit for the last "traded" card on my list and official "HERO" status.
That's (3) vintage Topps Baseball sets completed since the beginning of the year with `54, `58 and now `62 finally seeing completion. Thanks to all who had anything to do with these accomplishments (which is most of you), I'm moving full steam ahead toward my goal of (10) completed vintage sets by years end. You traders are the best!!! BE WELL!!!

Thanks to ED SCHOTT for a surprise flat, which contained a 1979
Kellogg's Bruce Sutter (sans Amish beard), a 1977 Cloth Lee "Big
Bopper" May, and a 4-bagger of 1962 Topps Football. So, you might
ask, what is so "ed-ucational"? Well, I'll tell you. The 62 FB all
had holes punched in the corner of the card that contained the card
number, meaning I had to do a little research to find out which ones
I now own. What's funny is that my first-ever 62 FB, from Rob Gioia,
had holes punched in exactly the same spots, so it looks like I may
be re-creating some kids'collection from 1962. Love those birth-year

Thanks for the cards, Ed, they are perfect.

PS - More "Ed-ucational" facts:
Lee May has the distinction of gettng the last hit, scoring the last
run, hitting the last home run & getting the last RBI in the history
of Crosley Field - and also made the last-ever put-out (in June 1970)

Bruce Sutter was originally drafted by, but did not sign with, the
Washington Senators (also in June 1970).

Getting my OBC mail directed to my work has definitely been a worthwhile idea. It's great to have an envelope or two of cards to open during my morning coffee break (for those of you who are unfamiliar with the British way of working, that runs from about 9;30 'til 11:30). Today was certainly a better than average day for arrivals.

First off, thanks out to Fr Pat Wattigny. Pat sent 3 cards on the long journey from Nawlens to Glasgow, and what beauties they were! A '65 semihi Carl Willey, and a pair of '64 semihis - Al Jackson and Orlando "Baby Bull" Cepeda. The '65 set is now about 90% complete, while the '64s have recently crept under the 100 to go mark. Thanks Pat!!

(Here's a little aside - What would be the most appropriate stats to have on the back of Fr Pat Wattigny's own baseball card? Saves? Conversions? PATs?)

Accompanying Pat's envelope this morning were two other items. First up was an ebay lot of 1970/71 Esso Hockey Stamps, all Red Wings. 11 in total, including Gordie Howe.

The last item was in a slightly larger envelope. It was another recent ebay pick up - a 1961 Tigers Yearbook. I recently also picked up a 1965 Yearbook which leaves only the 1960, 1962 & 1963 editions to be picked up to complete my "childhood in Michigan years" set run (1960-1973).

I received a very nice assortment of Topps cards from Bill Ashton that I'd
like to acknowledge. Bill sent a '61, a hard to hit 1965 (#133 1964 World
Series-game 2), one 19'70, one 19'72, 4 from the '73 set including FOOT HOMers
Cash and Horton and one of those unmentionables. Thanks Bill, much

Also, I was hit with a puffy from Linda Fitak yesterday. At first I tried
to resist opening it up until after I finished doing some chores, but alas it
was not to be. I couldn't hold off any longer, I just had to open it up just
to see what was there. Of course that was the end of doing anything
constructive, if anyone who has ever received a "Fitak Pack" knows.

Linda sent a 1953 Bowman, four 1959, a '70 and two from the 1961 Topps sets.
But wait, there's more... there were some very interesting British cards
and some newer cards that I won't elaborate on but I will mention that there
was a Topps card which duplicates the 1955 card of Al Kaline which will be
squirreled away in my Kaline binder. Thanks Linda. I had a lot of fun going
through all these cards and in fact I still have them spread out on my desk.

Maybe I should get back to some of those chores.

Subject: Three-bagger today...

(This is going through the Yahoo! Groups link, since my emails to the

fix that?)

I seem to have been a bit inactive here lately. I can't remember how
long it's been since I've my last three packages in all, but
today...there were three OBC packages for me!

First, LARRY ZURAWSKI sends a fat CD mailer with a 71 nosebleeder
(need 89 for that year now), two final-series 65s and almost FIFTY
hits to my 1963 Topps wantlist (WOW! I needed over 400 for that
year!). Among the hits were formerly stellar diamond stars like
Fregosi, Howser, Belinksy and a great early Met "Choo Choo" Coleman.

The second envelope was from STEVE HITZEMAN, with SCP "hitz" to my
'60, '62 and the ol' birthyear ('72) lists. The Psycho is especially
great, since my list for the birthyear set is getting down to big
stars and those pesky hi and semi hi #s. So any holes filled in that
binder are sweet!

Finally, a guy who has sent me a number of mailings lately but may not
have gotten any of my thanks since my emails never got through...but
BILL ASHTON has sent me several hundred hits to sets old and
not-so-old over the past several months. Today's package contains
more 63s and five hits to the '62s including Vada Pinson. Since I'm
not 100% sure I've been able to get out the thanks to Bill...let me
say that all the packages are really appreciated.

Before I go...I want to thank FATHER PAT for a box that was delivered
by UPS a few days ago...he promised to send along a genuine New
Orleans king cake at the recent OBC Gulf Coast get-together at Brock's
house a few weeks back. It was great! And I'm happy to say that
Melissa found the baby this time around.

Take care,

Thanks much Hitz.

From Minnesnowta RAY LUURS sends a 58 Hoeft red triangle variation and

I'm not a variation kinda guy, but since the 58 set is my all time

and one time donut shop owner, Mickey Lolich. The last time I was in
Lake Orion, the shop was still called Lolich's but the Mick sold it
years ago. Thanks Neal for the OPC hits, pleased to have them.

From way down the alphabet comes MAC WUBBEN who sends a 58T, a 72T of

favorite in the bunch was a T-206 Bush for my Tiger Team set. Mac
includes a note informing me that I am using non-standard numbering for
the T-206 list. That would be me, non-standard. As some of you know, I
don't know squat about pre-war cards. Thanks Mac, I really appreciate
the cardboard and the heads up.

Thanks to all, with a special thanks to Sean for setting up the pool and

For a wonderful addition to the Hank collection, a Braves Jay Publishing card. I have a question for the group that I also have asked Jeff if he knows. I've never researched these much and have to ask the group for
guidance. I never saw one before obviously. But looking at my list
and checking my Beckett he had this card issued in all five years of
1960 and 1962-1965. Beckett's description is exactly the same for all
five issues. The back of the card someone wrote in pencil 62-65 Jay
Publishing Type 2 #1. My question is there any difference in any of
the issues of him to be able to distinguish. Such as possibly
different poses, the only one I could think of maybe. If there are no
differences, does this mean that if I have one, it counts as having all
issues? I could go with that if that's the case, otherwise what's the
point of having 5 cards that look exactly the same and just saying I'll call this one the 1960, this one the 1962, etc, etc, etc.? I can just as easily call this a Braves Jay Publishing group card if there is no uniqueness at all between any of the issues. Thanks so much Jeff for another super Hank item.

Two great vintage OBC

from JOHN STORMAN. John had earlier posted a cryptic ramblings message

few e-mails later, and I find myself the proud owner of four additional
1948 Leaf baseball cards...  Chapman, Elliott, Hermanski and Platt.
Thanks John! The next envelope came from the omnipresent MARK TALBOT.
Although not my birthday, I must have done something right as Mark's

Seems to me that it is well nigh impossible to put together a definitive year-on-year set list for the Jay Publishing photos. For what its worth, I use the listing in the SCD catalog as a "master" list for the complete Type 1 and Type 2 periods. If it lists 4 pose variations for a particular player, that's what I'm gunning for.

In other words, I simply consider Type 1 and Type 2 and all the variations therein to be the "sets" regardless of the year of issue for a particular player/variation.

Clear as mud.

After a couple of days off work with a stinkin' cold, I returned this morning to find a pair of packages awaiting my attention in the mail room.

The first was from Bill Ashton, who forwarded an ebay lot on to me. Bill, however, felt the need to enhance the lot with a pair of Los Angeles Angels in the form of a '62 Fregosi and a '63 Art Fowler. An extremely welcome enhancement indeed!!

Next up was a variiety box of cards from TJ Valacak. TJ had told me that he was going to look out some dupes from the recent Topps Fan Favorite sets (that's one of them thar new-fangled UV sets for you old-timers). Little did I know that he was going to send a LOT more than that. Two bricks contained selection of 10 1972/73 OPC hockey cards, another 10 1970s Red Wings including a 73/74 Delvecchio, and on the baseball front 1965 Jerry Lumpe and a '62 Zoilo Versalles. The topper, however, was a 1960 Clete Boyer which along with a Willie McCovey AS from the ebay lot mentioned above takes the birthyear set down another 2 notches to 24 to go!! The remainder of TJs package will get full coverage on anothe well-known "Thanks" list.

BIG thanks to both of you!!!

Subject: Thanks from Glasgow/In a collecting pickle

Thanks out today to my fellow FOOT John McLaughlin for a beautiful 1952T Eddie Joost, along with a cartoon clipping featuring some amusing anecdotes told by Joost himself.

Now, John has placed me in a bit of a pickle here. For some time, I've been considering adding some 1950s elements to my collecting habits. When I first joined OBC, my set collecting was limited to 1968-1973, effectively the years that I collected when I was a kid prior to moving to Scotland. After some time, I decided to expand my horizons to include the rest of the 60's and 70's. I'd never really given too much thought to going further back, but over the course of the past couple of years, a few 1950s cards have found their way to Glasgow - no more than 30 or 40, mind you. The 52T Joost received from John today though has got me doing some serious thinking.

One of the main considerations for me in deciding whether or not to attend the National this year is - Can I pick up enough material there to make it worth my while? ( There is of course the social aspect of mingling with my fellow OBCers too, but I'm trying to be practical here!). If I fork out an appreciable wad of cash simply to get to Chicago, I certainly wouldn't want to return with a half filled 100-count box and no more than half-a-dozen hits per set. Maybe expanding into the 50s sets would provide me the opportunity to pick up something substantial.

Anyway, John, your very welcome card has certainly got the old collecting juices flowing!

Cheers for now!!

OBCers --

Mark Talbot really surprised me today when I went to
the mailbox - a T202 happened to be in the envelope
from Sterling Heights! The card features HOFer John
McGraw on the middle panel, with Chief Meyers and
George Wiltse on the ends. McGraw is in his black
uniform, which I read in a book on Matty and McGraw
that he ordered them for the Giants World Series
appearance. A lot of the T202 center panels show
those black Giant's uniforms of 1911 - pretty cool!
Chief Meyers was an underrated catcher of his day - he
certainly had a good bat for a backstop of his era.
He's also the most common end panel of the various
T202 panels, leading me to guess he was a fan favorite
as well.

Thanks for the awesome card, Mark - I'll be checking
your list soon!

As some of you know I have been looking for a Principal’s job and today I got another one of those “Dear John” letters from a prospective school. So the envelopes with cardboard were very nice to see indeed. I’d like to thank:
Brian Betza who ships off a SCP from the `60 Fleer Football set with Raiders Quarterback Paul Larson. Brian’s generosity brings the list down to 4 remaining; only Blanda, Cannon, Branch and Kemp remain. Thanks Brian!!!
Ed Schott sends me a nice grouping of DETROIT TIGERS with a couple from `63, singles from `65,`66 & `67 and a group of (4) from 1970. Always a pleasure to check out cards of Joe Niekro, Gates Brown, Mickey Lolich, Cesar Gutierrez, Bubba Phillips, Bob Scheffing, Hank Aguirre, Ray Oyler and Phil Regan. Thanks Ed!!!
Finally, a nice group of Topps Hockey cards with (8) from `76-77 and (2) team cards from `77-78 arrived from T.J. Valacak. To round it out T.J. included a card of Ted Simmons and TIGER great Ty Cobb. Nice lot T.J.
Thanks to these and all in this fabulous group – BE WELL!!!

Subject: THANKS OBC.

I just wanted to say something. Some might consider this a ramble,
but hey I'll try to keep it short.

But I was thinking... is there any way to figure out how much I've
gotten from OBC? On a large scale? I've been a member a little over
2 years now, and I know I've gotten several thousand cards from the
people in this group...

Then it came to me. I'm a bit of a statistical kind of guy. I guess
there's at least a little bit of that in all collectors, since we have
to make lists and whatnot. So I thought perhaps I could find one of
those "index" spreadsheets I used to make that showed how many cards I
was missing from each year of the Topps base set. I found one from a
few months before I joined, and figured it all up, and for Topps base
sets from 1952-2004 I was missing 14,504 cards. Okay...

So I made the exact same spreadsheet with today's numbers. Only took
a few minutes because if you've seen my wantlist, you know I keep
those numbers updated each time I receive cards. Subtract off a few
that I am expecting from a couple deals... carry the one... and it
comes to a grand total of 7,312. And that's even with the addition of
four newer years, through 2008 Topps!

Would I ever have thought it possible that in 2 years, I would cut my
wants in half? When I joined I was only about halfway done with 1974
and 1975. Finished! In fact, I've finished (I mean YOU'VE finished)
1974 through 1980, and I'm almost done with 1973. AND some UV years too!

Where will I be in 2 more years? Or 10? I hope I will be one of the
guys who gets to sit back and "pay it forward" to all the new guys. I
don't know. But I just thought that might be an interesting thought
to some of you. How much progress have you made? Where were you when
you joined?

So... the whole purpose of this was to say THANKS, OBC. So many of
you have been so generous, I just wanted to come up with another way
to express it.

Thanks... thanks, and thanks.

One envelope arrived this week...thanks to JIM SILVA for an SCP to the
Steelers wantlist that isn't hit very often. Jim sends along a 1973
team checklist. Though I needed the '74 CL, this one isn't marked and
makes a great upgrade to the one I had. It's always great to add to
the Steeler binder since it gets very little love now that the
1956-'90 Topps run is down to one hi # '72.

Two envelopes were discovered while cleaning. They were postmarked in
2007 but somehow got misplaced...the cards weren't ever taken off the
wantlist, so I am happy to give thanks, with apologies for the delay:

My "old" mentor JOHN COLLINS sends along a single hit to the 1961 set.
One card, three players: featuring the Reds' triple threats Vada
Pinson, Gus Bell and Frank Robinson. And the card is going to make
some of the other 61s in my binder to get jealous...

Finally, thanks go out to SAL DOMINO, who sends a 1960 Mike Cuellar
and the Yankees blue-border checklist from 1973. Always glad to cross
the Yankees off my wantlist...8 left to complete the Blue Border

Thanks for the cards!

Hi OBC,

I finally found some time to catch up with OBC inbounds and outbounds yesterday. Two more weeks and the US business travel should slow down a bit.

1. Lynn Miller sends about 20 hits to the 1970 OPC list. These are almost entirely leaders cards, World Series cards, and real good players like Sal Bando.

2. Jim Silva sends some 1970's football, all solid hits including a 1974 Fred Biletnikoff that finishes the set.

3. Bill Ashton sends two 1952 Bowman Baseball and I'm two closer on that set.

Cards out in tomorrow's mail to Jim and Bill. Lynn, I looked at your wantlist closely, and have nothing. I have some 60's and 70's OPC Baseball. If you are working on these sets, let me know.

Thanks -- again -- to BILL ASHTON for sending nine cards down from the
frigid North to (not so) sunny Florida. 7 even of the cards were from
the 1965 Topps set and included the Frank Baumann card seen in "The
Book." The other three cards were made by a latter-day card company
whose name began with the letter "D" and included a rookie card of a
decent pitcher who won a couple of Cy Young Awards for the Twins.

Over the past 4-5 months, Bill has hit my wantlists with a half dozen
mailings and a few hundred cards. Most were of the post-"OBC" era but
they are no less appreciated. Always great to whittle the lists down.

Take care,

A couple grand arrivals today...

First off, John Scott Gray sends along the very last 50 Bowman that I need.Preacher
Roe tucked away in the binder...and another set finished. Thanks

Also arriving today...the last t205 I needed...Wilhelm. I sent around the scan
once the deal was done...but now it's safely tucked away in the binder.
Thanks to all the OBC'ers who contributed along the way...with special thanks
to Brock Hattox and Ken Morganti for multiple hits along the way. Another
set that I could never have done without the help of OBC. All in all,
it was a fun and challenging set...the good mix of SP's, HOF'ers, minor leaguers,
variations and commons.

Two other OBC envelopes recently...

Mark Talbot sends six early OPC. Thanks Mark!

Bill Ashton sends an early bowman hit...and sends a 50's topps card I need...but
alas, it is not a 52 high number, but instead is a card from another sport
entirely (football). After knocking off so many sets...might be timefor
me to add a few football sets. Thanks Bill!

Subject: Late thank yous

Hi gang,
Between work, shopping for a new mattress and bedroom set (then waiting
for delivery of same a few days later), and preparing the bedroom with four
coats of paint among other things, I haven't had a lot of time for cards. Most of
these are still sitting in the envelopes, which have been on my desk for a
couple weeks. Rather than make those senders think I'm ungrateful or anything,
here's a list of people who have been kind enough to think of me while I've been
thinking of half a million things to do. Sorry if I omitted you or already
thanked you (although that seems doubtful considering I haven't sent out a note
of any kind in a while). In no particular order other than how I pull them off
the stack:
Aaron Shirley adds four to a set that falls just outside the legal OBC
limit, plus a couple that are two years more recent for one of my 'secret
projects'. THANKS AARON!!
Mark Talbot returns fire for cards I sent out! (I really did have time to
send him something, honest - at least it says so in his note). Two very rare
hits to the Kellogg's variations crossed off the list. I think these Kellogg's
cards will be on my list forever, since I'm normally too lazy to look for them
at shows. Plus my theory is that the factory sets didn't include any of them
and the ones on my list are from the cards that were originally included in
the cereal boxes... that's just a theory though. THANKS for crossing off two
more MARK!!
Marshall West, Dan Angland and Rick Lyons also deliver a SCP hits to my
most recently added set from the OBC Year Project that will be addressed on
another server. THANKS MARSHALL, DAN and RICK!!
Mike Mroz and Earl Kilbourn also had the same idea as the previous three
OBC'ers mentioned, but must've delivered their packages earlier, since they
both sent multiple cards and both packages have been filed away. I did write a
now undecipherable note on the backs of the envelopes, but both were postmarked
Jan. 28th, but those notes now only give me a slightly educated guess as to
what was in each. Both will be thanked on the other server as well. THANKS EARL
and MIKE!!
Brock Hattox sent me something so wonderful that I immediately ran to
whatever binder had the card missing and filled the empty slot. In my haste to
cross the card(s) off my list, I neglected to write a note about what Brock sent,
probably assuming I'd send out a thank you note while it was fresh in my
memory - that was over a month ago. I'm going out on a limb and say there were a
couple hits to the 1956 set in there, so I don't look completely ridiculous
thanking Brock for an empty envelope (as if thanking him a month late doesn't
already do that for me). THANKS BROCK!!
There, I think that's it (assuming the envelope I just found from Chuck
Paris sent in November last year got a thank you note sent out). I'd promise to
never let this happen again, but next up on the never ending list of projects
is the front bedroom, which needs a new ceiling. TAYL,

Ken M

JEFF DELOTT sends one from the classic days of baseball, a 1953 Bowman that features Hoot Evers posing with several baseball bats. The card text assures us that his .264 average from the previous year isn't indicative of his real talent, as he cleared .300 for three years previous. I wonder if Hoot kept one of those cards handy for a bad day? "Yeah, I was 0-for-4 today, but I hit .323 in 1950!"

You can read more about Hoot on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoot_Evers

writing it on the front. I believe that makes this a Topps Traded

These two names are all over the Thanks server lately...very busy !

best football card set in my eyes.

Big Thanks Jim !!! (I see a 77 Baseball Rookie Stars in there too...nice work
as that set dwindles to just 50 left...almost all OBC-led)

Hello All,

It has been a very busy week and I should have gotten to these acknowledgements much earlier in the week, so many thanks to:

Jeff Delott slips me (8) 12 pocket pages so that I can begin to organize my early Bowman collection. Thanks my friend for answering the call.

John Scott Gray (JSG the Younger to some of us) was at his old tricks the past few weeks hitting want lists across America and this week he hit me. JSG hit opposite ends of my collecting intrest with a `53 Bowman B&W card of Larry Jansen and a Topps A&G card of Greg Mattox. Surprised and pleased at the same time - Thanks John!!!

Potential Prospect Donny Muth comes through with a T-218 back variation of bowler Alex Dunbar. This is the first hit to the T-218 set in quite some time, even the last couple of eBay purchases yeilded no new items so this was special - Thumbs up to Donny!!!

John Storman finds a `49 Leaf Baseball SCP and places a Southeastern Michigan address on it and it arrived safe and sound. Indians backstop Jim Hegan is safely along side of the others in the collection thanks to John's kindness!!!

T.J. Valacak lets me grab up (4) cards in the Year to Year project with Tiger Aurelio Lopez, Jim Rice, Lee Smith and the Tiger Checklist. Nicely done T.J.

Geno Wagner clobbers the want list with (13) Churchman Boxing Personalities Tobbacco cards from Great Britian. these have been on the list for a long time and now I might actually have to start looking for the final few that I need. Geno includes a `74 Topps Baseball Stars gum lid to add to that rare issuea Tulsa Oilers card of Jim Willoughby from `75, a `75 SSPC Sample card of Denny Doyle and a retro Johnny Callison card that is quite cool. Thanks for thinking about me Geno!!!

Thank you guys for all the GREAT cardboard and your generocity that never ceases to amaze me - BE WELL!!!
