A very happy New Year to all. I just got back a couple days ago from a good trip out east with my family to have Christmas with the in-lawsin Maryland. While there, Steve Rittenberg was gracious enough to offer mea respite from the family stuff. I went on over to Steve's feeling especially guilty because I was not able to bring any cards with on my trip. I hada terrific evening with him, going out for some delicious pizza and then returning to his unofficial museum of cardboard. The guy has WAY more stuff than any dealers I've seen... and it's far more interesting. While I did look at a few sportscards, my real enjoyment for the evening was catching up on Steve's nonsport card collection. I saw stuff that I'd never seen before... even in the catalogs. Heck, he even talked me into bringing home a bunch of them for my nonsport type card collection. I'll be scanning those in the next couple of days to share with the group. I used to have a nonsport virtual gallery posted when I was on AOL and I really want to get it posted again At any rate, I also have a few other huge thanks to post here for some awesome ballcards that have arrived in the past month but I will have to do that this afternoon after my next task for the day... organizing! Take care and thanks again to all of you for your patience with this more-off-again than on-again collector. Joe Ginsberg which shows as a true OBC card like the name inked on the front

From Mark Talbot - a birthday card and two nice 67 Topps Pin-Ups #1 Boog
Powell and #8 Sam McDowell.
From Peter Mead - a 51 Topps Blue #16 Murray Dickson with part of his last
name inked in - true OBC condition.
From Walker Guthrie - three 51 Bowmans - #168, 169, and 223. I had already
put cards in the binder and wrote on his envelop just the numbers so I would
not forget. Unfortunately I forgot the thank you part.

Holiday greetings arrived Saturday with Snoopy on the outside and a nice
clean 1955 Topps Frank Leja card inside. Mark Talbot sent Season's Greetings
with a nice note and a '55 Topps card that is probably in better condition then
any I have.

Thanks Mark, and best wishes to you and your family.

Subject: Post-Vacation Thanks!

My friends,

I have just recently returned home from a three week vacation that includedspending
some quality time with my grandmother in Georgia as well as traveling
to Houston, TX to spend time with the in-laws over the holidays. While
I certainly would not begin to say that I have recovered from these travails,
I thought it would be a good time to catch up on some well-deserved thank
yous for packages received both before and during my trips. Thanks go out

Double A, Anthony Arbeeny, who returns fire with a SCP from the Fleer Ted Williams
set, and throws in a group of four pigskin cards, including three 54
Bowmans! Great cards AA!

Bill Ashton sent an amazing flat my way a couple of months ago, along with kind
birthday wishes! The SCP was from the 1936 S and S game set =96 I have
always had a special place in my heart for these cards that doubled as games,
and this is certainly no exception! Thanks for the great present Bill!

Bob D=92Angelo also sent three flats my way in the last few weeks, but these
cards were not for me =96 they were for my wife! Before we moved to central
MI I always had a card store that would pull the new Ivan Rodriguez cards
from any new product they got in and hold them for me to then give to her,
but I have not been able to set up a similar arrangement here. While I might
not be able to tell you the specifics of Bob's flats, I will say thatBob
has been my wife=92s main source for new Ivan cards, and she could notbe
happier! Thanks for thinking of us Bob =96 those three SCPs certainly were!

Jeff Delott wishes me an OBC day, and he makes it so by sending a great SCPfor
my shrinking 50 Bowman set. The 50 Bowmans have always been my favorite
of the classic Bowman sets, so it=92s always nice to lay my hands on a new
one =96 thanks Jeff!

Larry Gersbach hits me with two vintage cards, including a 71 OPC high number
and a 61 Fleer Lloyd Waner! Great additions Gersh!

Thanks also to Randy Griffin for Holiday greetings and a couple of uv hits!Same
to you Randy!

More thank yous to come in the next couple of days!

Be happy,

My friends,

I continue to catch up on thanks from the past couple of months, and some big
thanks are certainly in order. Thanks to:

John Harrell, who helps me get =93hi=94 with a great 34-36 Batter-Up high number
of Wess Ferrell! Thanks for the great card Bama!

Brock Hattox included me in a recent lot of 56 Topps variations, sending along
seven, including Ed Mathews! Great cards from my favorite set Brock!

Rick Lyons helps continue what I hope becomes a never-ending swap session, sending
along six 71 OPCs, three 61 stamps, a 64 Santo coin, two 71 coins (with
Hank Aaron), and a 67 high number! What a puffy, indeed! Thanks Rick=96
more fire heading your way soon!

Kevin Martens sends along nine unmentionables =96 thanks for helping me out!

Peter Mead sent a flat my way back in November that got lost on the desk =96
but now it=92s found, and three 70 OPCs and two 69-70 Topps hockey cards
have found their way into my binders! Thanks Peter!

While on vacation, Peter sent me an email saying that he had the number onecard
on my top ten most wanted list, and that he was willing to send it myway.
It even beat me home, and now the Dodgers=92 Big Three (Koufax, Drysdale
and Podres) reside in my 63 binder, taking me to just ten more to finish
that set! Thanks again Peter for a fabulous number-one SCP!

Mike Mroz fulfills my desire for hockey with fourteen hits spread across five
vintage sets, highlighted by a 70-71 Bobby Hull and a 75-76 Phil Esposito!
The 74 Topps baseball variation and two Kellogg=92s hits were icing on the
cake! Thanks Mike!

Be happy,

I was the lucky recipient of three separate packages today which were
very unexpected.

The first one arrived with holiday packaging and was a card and cards
from Mark Talbot. He included a couple of tough oldies from slowly
diminishing want lists of my 55 Bowman and 56 Topps sets. Thanks Mark.

The second package was some return fire from Mike Mroz. He actually
sent to me first so I don't know if this is technically return fire.
Nonetheless he sends a 1960 Fleer card of Ed Barrow. Thanks Mike.

Finally a puffy arrives with a couple of 195o's football cards and the
real treat was the 4 1964 All Star coins. Thanks Brian.

A great set of packages making this days trip to the mailbox especially

Mark Talbot graced my mailbox with a pair of Ron Santo
gems - an OPC Deckle Edge and a 1970 RBI Leader card!
Santo looks like a little kid on the deckle - I have a
feeling Topps went with an old photo for that one.
Those 1970 Leader cards are cool since it shows the
top 50 or so. When an RBI leader card makes it all
the way down to Don Kessinger, you know it's pretty
complete! Thanks for the cards, Mark!

A big thank you goes out to Lynn Miller for a trio of great old cardboard, which included a hit to the 1970 set and two to the 1968 set. The 1970 SCP is especially appreciated, as it brings me a little closer to completion of what is known to me as the David Kolenda memorial set. A looong time ago, when a bunch of us used to get together and chat nightly on IRC (seems like we spent most of the time playing random .wav files - anyone remember Barry Clesh's eeeeeeeee sound?). Anyway, there was a discussion about what we considered to be the ugliest set of all time, and my choice was the 1970 greys. About a week later, I get this box in the mail from David containing a very nice start on the set. Back in those days we used to talk on the phone every so often, and I can remember him laughing at me.
Lynn, thanks for the great cards, and for bringing up some good memories of our friend David.

Subject: Massachusetts Wise Guy makes his best "Wise Man" Santa impression.

Hello All,

This could possibly be the final thank you message for this years "Secret Santa" exchange as "Wise Guy" Ken Morganti waits till the Feast of the Three Kings to bestow gifts here in Southeastern Michigan. I was aware that Ken's package would be late as he informed me on Christmas eve that Santa "lost his sleigh at the Mall" or some such reason. The fact that the much anticipated package arrived on the same day as 24 other packages from trading friends did not however diminish the impact, or the thought that Ken put behind his gift to me. So I must thank Ken for:

(5) `49 Bowman Baseball cards (Mitchell, Bonham, Tipton, Higbe & Ostermueller)
(2) `50 Bowman Baseball cards (Fain & Keltner)
(2) `70 Rold Gold Baseball cards (just Ruth & Sisler)
(5) `71 Kellogg's Baseball cards (Perry, Kessinger, Kaline, Perez & Rose)
(13) `81 Fleer Baseball cards, mostly variations (Wilson, McRea, Griffin, Dempsey, Martinez, Foster, Bonham, Matthews, Burns, Bevacqua, Jefferson, Summers & Triple Threat w/Scmidt, Rose + Bowa)
a `54 Bowman Football card (John Martinkovic)
a `55 Topps All-American Football card (Hank Foldberg)
(4) `60 Fleer Football cards (Amstutz, Baldwin, Drzewiecki & Woodward)
a `61 Topps Football SCP (just Johnny Unitas)
(4) `63 Topps Football cards (Howton, Cvercko, Tubbs & Bishop)
a `64 Philly Football card (Cards Team)
(4) `65 Philly Football cards (Michaels, Ryan, Coach Halas & Eller)
(3) `66 Topps Football cards (Holub, Faison & Duncan)
(2) `72-73 Topps Basketball cards (Gilmore AS & Melchionni AS)
a `75-76 Topps Basketball SCP (Cunningham)
a "rare" `77-78 Topps Basketball grey back (Petrie)
a `69-70 Topps Hockey SCP (Bucyk)
another SCP from `70-71 Topps Hockey (just P.Esposito)
(2) `71-72 Topps Hockey cards (Stanfield & Cheevers)
(6) `72-72 Topps Hockey cards (Johnson, Smith, Hull, Edwards, Hodge & Gibbs)
(2) `73-74 Topps Hockey cards (P.Esposito & Mikita)
(3) `74-75 Topps Hockey cards (Goring, Murphy & Clarke)
a `75-76 Topps Hockey SCP (another P.Esposito)
a `77-78 Topps Hockey card (Kehoe)
a `78-79 Topps Hockey SCP (Bossey RC)
a `79-80 Topps Hockey card (Sittler)
and finally (2) `84-85 Topps Hockey Cards (just Yzerman & LeFontaine RC's)

Ken sent (71) cards total and a very nice note, I think that is without a doubt safe to say that Ken over-did himself and certainly made it well worth the wait. I must add that Ken attains HERO status by sending the last card I needed for the `78-79 Topps Hockey set (just a single upgraded team card left) so I'm already making progress toward my goal of (10) vintage sets completed in 2008. Many thanks to Ken and all of OBC for a wonderful collecting start to 2008 - BE WELL!!!

Hello All,

A Big "Thumbs-up" goes out to Steve Rittenberg for cluing us in on some "dealer scum" that OBC'er Mark Macrae had available. Through that connection I received on Monday the following from Mark:

1948 BOWMAN- #3 Kiner
1949 BOWMAN - #46 Roberts and #110 Wynn
1950 BOWMAN - #77 Snider
1952 BOWMAN - #145 Mize
1952 TOPPS - #11 Rizzuto, #65 Slaughter, #88 Feller & #216 Ashburn
1954 TOPPS - #128 Aaron & #250 Williams
1956 TOPPS - #107 Mathews
1957 TOPPS - #312 Kubek
and BULK LOTS that included (16 Diff) 1957 Topps BB, 100 assorted 1959 Topps BB, 120 assorted 1969 Topps BB and 100 Assorted 1970 OPeeChee BB for the dupe box. Mark also "threw in" (3) `88 Topps vending boxes just for kicks and giggles. All this at a very reasonable OBC "dealer scum" discount which was much appreciated!!!

The most important "pick-up" was the 1954 TOPPS - Aaron & Williams cards which officially finishes my first set from the `50's decade. Those (2) cards have been on the list all by themselves for a number of years and now with Mark's help and Steve's "heads-up" the quest is now complete. That's (2) vintage sets down for 2008 in less than 10 days, I would say that my goal of (10) completed vintage sets is well ahead of schedule. Thanks you gentlemen!!! BE WELL!!!

Mid-week thanks go to TOM MASSIMO who chips in with four hits to my
OBC-only sets from 1959, 1962 and 1965. Tom includes two polar extremes
of player names... the tough as nails sounding "Rocky Bridges", and the
not-so intimidating sounding "Billy Muffett" (sounds too much like the
Muffin man to me!). Thanks Tom!

Garden Grove did seem to be in the middle of things there in Southern
California. Somewhat in between LA and San Diego, a bicycle ride to
Huntington Beach and a few Dwight Evans or Roberto Clemente throws from
Disneyland and the Big A. Of course, there wasn't a Big A when Chuck and
Bill lived there and now the home of the 'used to be' Los Angeles
Angels, 'used to be' California Angels, 'used to be' Anaheim Angels,
'currently' Lost Angeles Angels of Anaheim is called something else that
escapes me at the moment. No doubt named after some energy or
communications company.

Thanks to MIKE, TOM, and HOWARD!

MIKE MROZ sends the first of the hits from the "1980 swap party" with
a 1980 Kelloggs of George Arthur Foster, who hit 52 home runs for the
Big Red Machine in 1977. Thanks, MIKE!

TOM MASSIMO sends a 1965 Topps, a 1980 Babe Ruth, and some
unmentionables. Thanks, TOM!

And HOWARD MORGAN sends return fire that made my jaw drop. Three
awesome prewar Boston Braves: A 1933 Goudey of Al Spohrer, a 1939
Playball of Tony Cuccinello, and a 1940 Playball of Buddy Hassett!
But wait, there's more! He also included a 1968 Topps game of
Killebrew, a 1969 Deckle Edge of Richie Allen, and the only Topps
Wacky Packages sticker I've ever seen - Shorts Illustrated. And to
top it all off, he included an OBC special card of himself!

Speaking of the OBC member cards, I really like the different ones
I've seen - does the group make them together, or do individual
members just make their own? I've seen different designs, like the 55
Bowmans, 65 Topps, etc... and is there a checklist? Are there rare
varieties, green tints, reversed negatives, short prints? Perhaps if
we make another series, mine could be issued as a refractor parallel
only, in light of the recent UV discussion? Hahaha... :) Just saying
I have learned to smile about all this stuff.

Thanks again fellas.

thank you to Mike for his throw-in card, a tough-to-find '63 Fleer Billy

As Mike points out in a note, although the Koufax is clearly Tipton because
of a name scrawled in ink just above Sandy's name, it would be classified
much, much higher otherwise. Actually, I would put it as excellent except for the
writing. More than good enough for me in that set.

Much appreciated, Mike.

Subject: Thanks are in order!!!

Hello All,

I have been quite busy the past few days and have gotten behind on my thanks, so bear with me and appologies for the cross group posting but this puppy is just too long to separate and I wanted to thank all who were involved with Massacre Monday. Kudos out to:

For deliveries received today!!!

Anthony Arbeeny who returns volley with couple of OPC baseball cards. The `66 variety included a nice Jim Gosger card and a `67 Deron Johnson. These OPC sets are coming along quite nicely with a hit here and there - thanks for keeping the ball rolling Ant-man.

Tom Housley sends the first "hits" to recently posted `81 Fleer & Donruss sets with variation cards for Bevacqua, Cey, Wilson and a checklist as well as Tiger Mark Wagner. Thanks for getting my interest peaked on these sets again Tom!!!

Kevin Martens connects with a SCP from the `54 Bowman set with a variation card of Bob Friend that I have been looking for. There was a time when I was close to this set until I discovered all the blasted variation - so Kevin gets me 1 step closer.

LTC Wagner of the Florida pan-handle lays assault on my `75 Hostess Twinkee set with a splendid SCP of Dwight Evan for a very short list. This card must be a variation of sorts because it does not have the tell tale Twinkee stains all over it. A "retro" Hack Wilson card is sent as company for a very cool presentation - Thanks Geno!!!

Yesterday's mail brought items from the following:

Bob Bard ships out a waiver wire claim that has me wondering if i need to add items to my want list, a `99 Magic Moments card with Wade Boggs featuring his `83 Batting Title is "different" than the one I have in the set (my guess is that there are a number of "moments" cards that I don't have), a Golden Moments card featuring Roger Maris (I hope it's not the same thing here), and a very cool Sunoco card with HOF Tigers Al Kaline and Sparky Anderson. Thanks (I think) Bob for the cardboard and the questions.

Tim Fritz returns fire with (6) `76 Hostess Twinkee cards featuring Yount, Darwin, Burleson, Ruhle, Chambliss and Burris complete with Twinkee stains in place to guarantee there authenticity. Still on the "oddball" theme Tim also includes a couple of `93 Milk Bone cards with Biggio and Swift along with their canine friend Zach and Shelbee - very fun cards - Thanks Tim!!!

Tom Massimo finds an unusual `64 Topps Bill Freehan card that appears to be auto-penned with "Best Wishes - Bill Freehan" neatly across the face of the card (very cool). Tom included a dozen assorted Batman cards with red bat, blue bat and bat laughs included further prompting me to join the fray of Bat-enthusiast. Finally, a couple of `79-80 OPC Hockey cards from my list (Islanders Kaszycki & Howatt) were tucked into the puffy for good measure. A very nice package indeed Tom - THANKS!!!

Wednesday, Wyatt the mail-carrier dropped off stuff from:

Doug DeJong includes solid hits to my want list with a `76 Kellogg's card of Pete Rose, a `77 Kellogg's card of Ferguson Jenkins and an unusual Cracker Jack Ballpark Legends II card of Juan Marichall. It looks like a new set will be listed as a result of Doug's package as I find this a very cool item indeed - Much obliged to you Doug!!!

Mark Gilmore hits my recently posted `07 List with a variety of hits; (9) Topps A&G cards with Halladay, Marshall, Zumaya, Phillips, Miles, Frazier, Lee, Pujols & Roosevelt, a Co-Signers card of Bourn, a Topps card of Bonser, a Heritage Mantle insert #16 and a DiMaggio insert #44. Thanks for being the first to respond to that want list Mark, I appreciate the help.

Don Rice connects with a TOP 10 hit with the addition of a `57 Topps Joe Collins to my collection, this has been an incredibly difficult card to come by because of that "pin-striped suit" and coming in that difficult series. Joe was accompanied by a National Chicle Fine Pen card of Buck Newsom which is a set that NEVER sees any action, so Thanks so much Don for the wonderful package!!!

Tuesday I received from:

Mike Mroz a scratched AND unscratched `80-81 Topps Hockey card of Ray Bourque, a `72 Kellogg's card of Dave McNally, an `80 Kellogg's card of Tiger Lance Parrish, `80 Topps cards of Tigers Wockenfuss & LeFlore and a Circle K card of HOM'er Norm Cash. A delightful package to say the least - Thanks Mike!!!

On Massacre Monday I received (25) packages on a single day from:

Chuck Andres ships out a SCP from the `68 Topps Football Stand-up set with Curtis McClinton, a very nice intact card for my collection - Thanks Chuck!!!

Dan Angland connects with a SCP of Babe Ruth from the `92 Megacard set and (6) assorted Brooke Bond Tea cards featuring animals for my daughter Kendall. Very nice touch to remember my daughter Dan!!!

Don Berg completes a swap by sending me `69-70 Topps Basketball cards of Willis Reed and Elvin Hayes. If that wasn't enough, Don throws in a 2001 Topps Ichiro card to kill that set - so HERO status is officially bestowed on Don. Thanks for the trade my friend!!!

Chuck Bosshardt finds a TOP 10 hit for my list with a `52 Topps card of Al Rosen, this one has been on the list for a long time so it's GREAT to knock this one off. Great Hit Chuck!!!

Bob Brown achieves HERO status by sending the final (3) cards needed to complete my `81-82 Topps Basketball set (Shelton, Bailey & Poquette). Another one bites the dust thanks to the generosity of Bob!!!

Griffin Cole takes aim at my recently posted `07 Want List and smacks (30) assorted `07 Topps A&G cards from it. Names like Mantle, Pujols, Ortiz, Verlander, Matsuzaka and Ichiro included. Thanks for the help on this, the longest of my `07 want lists.

Doug Flater will also get credit for completing my `07 Topps/Target Ted Williams subset and will be immortalized with HERO status on my want list. Doug also includes Boof Bonser from the regular set leaving me with a single card left # 341(Akinori Iwamura-hint,hint). Your the best Doug!!!

Bill Gurtler sends out a `55 Topps card of Tiger Ray Herbert and a `55 Bowman of Tiger Bill Tuttle as well as a couple of `92 Milk Bone All-Star Dog cards for my daughter Kendall. A second delivery for Kendall on the same day, that's a record day for her as well. Thanks Bill!!!

Chris Lozipone helps me with my `07 Topps Heritage set with Tulowitski & Molina as well as (6) Mickey Mantle Home Run cards with #7, 19, 20, 28, 30 & 4. These are GREAT additions to my collection - Thanks Chris!!!

Rick Lyons checks out his dupe box and finds a `61 Magic Rub-off of Duke Mass, a `69 OPC card of Steve Hamilton and a `75 OPC card of Rookie catchers & outfielders featuring Tigers Danny Meyers and Leon Roberts and some Expos catcher by the name of Gary Carter. Nice stuff to send my way Rick - much appreciated!!!

Mike Mackie connects with a SCP from the `61 Topps set with Jim Backus of Gilligan's Island and Mr. Magoo fan. No wait a minute it's not Backus at all but an imposter by the name of Danny Murtaugh on a `61 All Star card (check it out, #567). Great card and it takes a double take not to Thurston Howell III on that card - Thanks Mike!!!

Tom Massimo allows me to raid his dupes of `60's Batman cards with (14) assorted issues from the mid 60's. It looks like I will have to be added to Steve Rittenbergs list of "who collects Batman" stuff. Look for additions to a want list near you thanks to Tom!!!

Peter Mead floors me with the SCP he sent - just a `58 Topps Sandy Koufax card - No big deal - WRONG!!! The base set is now down to a single card (Williams AS - hint, hint) and a handful of variations. Thanks to Peter I'm closing in on another vintage set completion - Way to go Peter!!!

Len Medeirus sees that my `61 Topps Football set can use some help and he connects with a pair from the set. Larry Grantham and Wray Carlton are now safely placed in the binder of vintage football courtesy of Len!!!

Lynn Miller writes a very nice letter (as usual) and flips me (17) cards for the `07 Topps Co-Signer set, details on a different server of course. Thanks Lynn and nice to hear from you again!!!

Guy Mitchell rings in on this record mailbox day with a couple of `49 Remar Bread Oakland Oaks cards featuring Milo Candini and Bud Foster, a rarely hit set and to get (2) in a single envelope is impressive. Thanks BIG TIME Guy!!!

Judd Morrison finds (3) `61 Nu-Card Scoops on my list and promptly ships them to Southeastern Michigan. Bobby Thomson, Rocky Colavito and Woddy Held are all featured on one of these classic "oddball" cards that I love so much. Judd - Thanks so much!!!

Brad Nelson sends a puffy with an `82 Topps K-Mart MVP set my way, a very cool set that has plenty of BIG TIME stars in it, Brad also includes a couple of `87 Twin Team issues (Hrbek & Kelly) - Thanks a ton Brad!!!

Bob Neill makes a move on my `55 Topps Double-Header set with a card featuring Jim Pendleton and Gene Conley. This is one Great SCP Neill - Thanks!!!

Lewis Oberlander finds a SCP from the `57 Topps set and upgrades a TIGER card for me - Bill Tuttle is looking much better next to his buddies in the binder thanks to BIG LEW, Thanks a Lot Lew!!!

John Storman smacks the TOP 10 list with a `57 Topps Joe Collins and a `53 Topps Harry Dorish back variation I needed. A couple of nice vintage cards for my collection, Thanks John!!!

Mike Weir sends a nice `69 Topps decal of Tim McCarver, a few `64 Topps coins (Pinson, Gonzolez & Hall) and a very well loved but much appreciated Dan-Dee Chips card of "The Original" Frank Thomas. What a cool grouping of vintage basebell item - Kudos Mike!!!

Myke Young is wanted fro homocide after becoming a set killer with the mailing of a `74 Topps Football card of Jeff Siemon. I have no explanation as to why This card has taken so long to get, but I got it now and Myke get HERO status because of it!!!

Of course I already mentioned Ken Morganti and Mark Macrea in earlier posts accounting for the biggest (1) day haul at the mailbox I have ever experienced in 9 years of trading in these fine groups. Many thanks to all the fine traders that have made this a monumental week in sports card trading - To all BE WELL!!!

Two great packages made it out of the frozen north and into the balmy
record high 73 degree weather here in Raleigh (Ok, am I rubbing it in
enough? I did spend 10 years in the frozen tundra of Endicott NY). First,
from the Evergreen State, Rick Lyons sends a great package of 61 and 62
Topps stamps, including a young looking Joe Torre and hte Phillies logo
stamp. Rick also included a 67 poster of Boog Powell.

And to complete the literal DH, Mike Rich ships me two 1955 Doubleheader
cards. At first I thought one of them had a rare (for MLB) combo of two
defunct teams--It had Charlie White of the Milwaukee Braves, and Dean Stone
of the Washington Senators--but the card specifically says, Washington
Nationals, even though I'm sure they were technically the Senators then
(I'm sure Howard remembers the year well and can attest to that). Mike
makes mention of the fact that he and I appear to be the only two people
actively collecting the 1969 Chemtoy Superball set. Is that true? Anyone
else a closet superball collector?

Thanks to both,

Also in the mail, Rob G sends 2 well trimmed 56s for the variation quest.
Most excellent additions to that expedition. And Rob, stick to the hero story

completion (any heroes out there?... it's #48 Williams). James' envelope
returns to more classic OBC fare... vintage baseball! His envelope
contain a cool dozen hits, including a 1949 John Wyrostek, and eleven
more hits to my OBC-only sets from 1957 thru 1960. Nice stuff! Thanks guys!

along some Fleer All Star game cards, that Steve Rittenberg and I are

Atlantic Oil Yaz and a 1976 All Star ballot (I need to compile my
list of those). Jim Moleta sent 1 of the final 4 1951 Topps Blue
Backs I needed in the form of Ennis. Rick Lyons put his stamp on the
week with 39 more hits to the 1949 Eureka Stmap list. This was the
2nd major shipment of these from Rick. Until Rick started firing
away, I only had a handful of these and now I have 93 of the 200.
I also received a package from a Steve Mangelli that included a 1949
Leaf BB, 3 1953 Topps BB bio variations and a 1966 Topps shortprint.
I had contacted Steve through soemthing SCD has started
periodically. A Collectors directory. I have a few swaps going with
guys I have contacted through this. I am going to try and get listed
myself and will let the group know how it turns out. Another person
who listed in their is going to swap me a few 1962 Salada BB coins.
I thought I was in the dark ages, but this guy does not have e-mail!
I also am working on a 3 way swap that should result in my getting 28

Tomorrow is a local show, so I need to go get some sleep to be ready

I was 8 years old and insisted on hvaing my mom shop at Piggly Wiggly for groceries instead of the local Super Value .... Piggly Wiggly gave out a different sheet of players each week. I embellished my book with the decals from the Topps packs I would open .....I lined up the Twins (Killebrew x3 and a pair of Olivas) on the front page very nicely, but the rest are all over the front and back covers, some on top of others. Should have saved that Mantle and the Reggie!

Many thanks Gary!

Hello All,

It was time again for another FOOT Conclave at the Redford Card Show which happens every 5 to 6 weeks. I arrived about 10:30 am and promptly met up with Ron Perry who had stopped by my favorite dealer Harolds table and we chatted and exchanged cardboard. Ron handed me an envelope with (3) `47 - `66 Exhibits with Johnny Antonelli, Dick Groat and Leon Wagner - excellent additions to my collection. Well I stood at Harolds table for a short while pulling out old cardboard and EEK Kilbourn approaches for a surprise attack, he decided to join us at the last minute. We had a nice chat and hung out most of the rest of the show.
We walked over to Mike Sandles table and met up with Mike Rich and more cardboard was exchanged as Mike handed off a `66 HI number of Bill Skowron, a `70 Cocoa Puffs Globetrotters Meadowlark Lemon, (2) `71 Topps Basketball Trios, (4) `70 Topps Glossy Football with Snow, Cook, Snell & Lamonica, and a `69 Topps Football 4 in 1 album for the Chiefs. COOL STUFF Mike!!! Well, EEK and I heard rumor that "The Wizard of Mroz" was in the building but he was nowhere to be seen. He must have used some of that Wizardly Power to do a disappearing act - nonetheless we decided to cite Mike for "unFOOTsmanlike conduct" for skipping out before all FOOT members had arrived and disappearing without giving notice to the single FOOT member of his pending disappearing act. I only hope the he and his Father-in-Law had a good time at the show - you were missed!!!
Following the show it was off to Eastside Mario's for cheap food and drink, big screen sports, talk, laughter and general FOOT commradarie. All-in-all a wonderful day with the FOOT - Great to see you guys again, and thanks for the cardboard accolades - BE WELL!!!

It is true - I was at the show and unfortunately, had to skip out
early. Please accept my humblest (is that a real word?) apologies
for leaving before all of FOOT arrived, as well as neglecting to say
my goodbye's to Mr's. Rich and Perry. I wasn't expecting to have to
leave that early, but had to due to my father-in-law's attendance

All-in-all, it was a good, although abbreviated time, and I walked
away with a couple of great items - the best of which was a Rickey
Henderson rookie, compliments of Mike Rich, which knocks me down to
needing one card for the 1980 Topps set. I was floored when he
handed it to me, to say the least. Thanks, Mike

Hi OBC

A good time was had yesterday morning at the Redford show. This is an excellent 9am-2pm Sunday show that is held about every six weeks. Card prices are low, there are lots of boxes of to search through and there really are some great finds. A contingent of five FOOT members were in attendance including Mark Talbot, Mike Rich, EEK, Mike Mroz and me.

Thanks are in order to Mike Rich who dropped of a few 68 Topps football standups and a couple 69 OPC Baseball. Mark Talbot also handed me a nice package of more than a dozen 73 and 74 OPC baseball.

My find of the day was a stack of 1962 Post football that included two real tough short prints. In addition I picked up some 1970 Topps football and 1970 Topps Basketball posters leaving each set one poster from completion.

As has been reported there was a local card show yesterday. We have
a couple of fav dealers there, Mark Talbot's fav, Harold, and Mike
Sandles, who a few FOOT members usually help set-up and tear down.
Mike also sets up in Cinci, where I am told Gersh also helps out. I
got there right at 9:00 for teh start, although many people were
already inside grabbing cards. Mike Sandles, does not allow anyone
to look at his display boards or his boxes of new material until
9:00, so I was OK. As Mike turned the display boards around, i
started picking off cards at a furioous pace and handed them to Mike
Mroz to hold until I was done. I never saw the cards again. I think
Mike bought them all, including dupes of some of the cards! Mike did
introduce me to his father in law, before they both left without
saying good bye. We decided Mike would be sent to the penalty box
for such a gross infraction of FOOT rules.
Ron Perry had also beaten me to the show. Now Ron only has a couple
hour drive to the show, vs. my 20 minutes. Ron gave a typical FOOT
handshake that contained an envelope with an Exhibit card and a Red
Mark Talbot was next and handed me a team bag containing a card of My
HOMer, Willie Horton from what I am guessing was a deck of playing
cards of teh Tigers, plus 9 of 14 1963 GAD Fun Cards I need. Another
set within 5.
Earl Kilborne made a Handful of FOOT. Earl joined us at the show and

So, in no particular order...
Two traders have recently hit my T205 set - not a very easy task. Both Bob
Donaldson and Chuck Paris managed to find a much coveted Polar Bear back
among their holdings and thought of trading it to me. THANKS CHUCK AND BOB!!
Mark Talbot rang in the New Year (Which gives you an idea of how old some
of these envelopes are) by sending a pair of big league managers from the 56
set in the form of Chuck Tanner and Alvin Dark. Well, both of them were still
in their playing days in 1956 and they both filled empty spots in the binder.
THANKS MARK!!
Don Rice sent the most recent package, which I can't technically detail
on this server, since it's about three years too recent to describe ;-)
Included were a couple cards of the all-time hit leader. THANKS DON!! TAYL,

I stayed home sick today with a really bad cold or flu and decided to
check the mail to at least get a minute of fresh air, and to my
surprise, found a nice puffy from Lynn Miller, filled with 29 hits to
my 1974 Topps set. What a way to feel better, although I keep falling
further and further into Lynn's debt... Included were such names as
Aparicio, Tiant, Berra, Santo, John, Concepcion and Mathews. Thanks
for keeping me in mind, Lynn!

MIKE MROZ delivers a pair of 74T & a baker's dozen from a 25 year old set!

DON RICE drops a 5 pack of 59T on me!

BILL ASHTON must've peeked into Mike's mail, as he also sent a pair of
74T (different one, fortunately) but substituted a 21 year old sticker
as a traveling companion.

Thanks guys! OBC - you gotta love it!

The following people contributed to my baseball set for the 1979 Wantlist Project:
Mike Mroz (x4), Sal Domino (x26), Bill Ashton (x1 plus 2 from 1978), Marshall
West (x4 plus a signed OBC card), Kevin Martens (x13), Don Rice (see below),
and Rick Lyons (x31). Thanks Guys! That knocks the list from 161 down
to 89. With 40 more on their way I'll be down to just 49 left.

Don Rice not only hit the =9279 list twice but also added a 1978 McCovey record
breaker, hits to both the 55 Bowman football and baseball sets (MinnieMinoso),
a 1950 Bowman baseball hit and a 1963 card of Jim Taylor of the Packers.

Bob Donaldson sends the second to last t205 I need (Lush). Huge hit. I would
do a second "need one" plea, but I'd guess there aren't any Wilhelms floating

Lynn Miller spies a `54 Bowman variation card of Gus Bell that was on my list and promptly shipped it off with well wishes. Also included were (7) Tiger cards from a set just beyond the threshold of conversation on this server - yet they still deserve acknowledgement. Thanks to Old Bubblehead!!!

Chuck Paris includes me in on the recent `62 Topps stamp give away project with a grouping of (8) from the set including Don Drysdale, Jay Hook, Sam Jones, Jerry Lumpe, Stu Miller, Frank Roby, Jake Wood and Don Zimmer. Quite a chunk out of the old wat list thanks to Chuck!!!

T.J. Valacak connects with a dozen cards from the same set that Lynn hit which has been getting quite a bit of coverage of late due to the Year Project idea and they are very much appreciated T.J.

to shrink my want list to 29....he gives me just the Aaron and the Mantle
World Series #134! Thank you Brock! Even without the paper gold, the trip
was very much worth my while, but those two babies are much appreciated!

BAMA, John Harrell, my mentor, who gets me started on the 1941 Goudey set with
Chester Ross of the Boston Bees. Bama, thanks for the card, and for being
a good mentor to me!

LYNN MILLER, who brought a box--a carton, no shoe box here, guys, a box of dupes
for us to search. 31 hits in all did Lynn have for me, from a nice 1953
Topps Marion Fricano, to several 54 Bowmans, 2 TVs, 5 57's, 12 1959 Topps,
3 61 Topps including the Hornsby and Haddix highlight cards, and two 66's
including Roy Face, who pitched in New Orleans when my daddy was a kid.
Thank you LYNN! The submarine stories were fun too!

Thanks for fun and friendship go to Geno, whom I had seen and met for the first
time in New Orleans late last year, and to Chris Stufflestreet, his wife
Ellen, and their daughter Melissa, who were great fun to be with at Brock's
"lil tin roof shack".

Hope to see y'all again soon! King cakes will be going out Wednesday morning!!!!

many of you know, there were multiple printings, and many updates to the

Subject: Thanks to Todd, Mac and Andy

Thanks to Todd Knowles, Mac Wubben and Andy Cook for our mini-OBC
meeting at Union Station in Washington DC. Card-wise, I did great.
Todd gave me a 1974 OPC Yaz card that has been impossible to find!
Just one more '74 OPC Red Sox needed for the team set. Friend-wise, I
did even better. Its always a great time when I get to see OBCers.
Todd reminded us about how he and Ken Morganti shared a room in Vegas
but never saw each other. Mac and Andy worked out a mega pre-war swap
while passersby gawked. I was even reminded of the time that I tore
my shorts at a Las Vegas Stars game and asked all the OBC wives for a
needle and thread. That happened so long ago, I don't remember the
conclusion. Maybe I got thread from a concession stand? Maybe I
bought another pair of shorts at the game? Boy, Im getting so old
that I have forgotten more than I remember.

Thanks again guys! And special thanks to Todd for providing a reason
for us to get together.

I was just doing some bill filing and found an envelope from Dan Angland stuck in among the stack. Bad thing is, he sent it over two weeks ago - the family knows that card arrivals are given to me ASAP, but this one somehow slipped by. At any rate, Dan sent me a waiver wire 1980 Phil Simms, which brings that list down to just two. Hero needed: #31 Bahr and #330 Dorsett.
Thanks, Dan - love the card!

Marshall West sent me a 63P Eddie Mathews and an autographed Marshall West rookie

Rick Lyons sent me a couple of Redmans ..... Charlie Dressen and Sid Gordon.
A pretty cool issue that I've never explored too much.... might just have

Subject: Cards are flying, and I'm swiming in OBC generosity!!!

Hello ALL,

More incoming items to express my thanks for, so allow me to thank:

Dan Austin connects with me once again (first time in quite a while) and he makes up for lost time by flipping me (20) `70 OPC Football cards (tough cards) and a half dozen "oddball" filler cards that Dan knows I would enjoy. We've been flipping cardboard going on 9 years my friend and it's always a pleasure and delight to hear from you.

EEK Kilbourn sneaks in and sends me (6) `80 Topps TIGER card that I posted on the Year of the Month project so that I could fill out a TIGER team set for my home-town collection. With tons of `80 Topps dupes I was surprised not to be able to pull Pat Underwood, John Hiller, Dave Tobik, Eddy Putman or Phil Mankowski from the dupes but Earl comes to the rescue, the Fidrych card was quite nice as well - Thanks my FOOT brethren.

Kevin Martens promised to send a couple shiny cards and he does. Thanks Kevin!!!

Ken Morganti sends a Year of the Month set killer from a set just beyond mentioning further!!!

Jim Silva takes care of the lone low numbered `72 Topps Football card that was recently added to the list because of the cardboard gremlins. I posted the need for a `72 Bobby Bell a number of months ago and Jim comes through once again putting to rest the "easy" part of the `72 FB set. Those blasted HI numbers have been very difficult but I will be collecting for many years to come so I will keep plugging away at it. No more "easy" hits thanks to Jim though!!!

T.J. Valacak hits my list again with a nice grouping of (9) assorted Hockey cards. Names included Gamble, Sather, Schoenfeld, Gendron, Favell, Burrows, Hart, Gilbert and Martin. Once again an outstanding grouping of both US and Canadian issues - Thanks T.J!!!

Mark Zentkovich who sends a `70 Milton Bradley card of Ron Santo, (23) Shakey's Pizza Hall of Fame card, (2) Cramer Baseball legends, (12) Hygrades Baseball Immortals and an little stack of (7) cards that are spoken of on another server. This lot was chock full of HOF greats like Mordecai Brown, Lefty Grove, Joe McCarthy, Cy Young, Sandy Koufax, Jimmie Foxx, Jackie Robinson and so many more. This is the largest group of Shakey's I've ever received - Thanks Mark!!!

Once again as you can see Wyatt has been packing them in and dropping `em off here in Southeastern Michigan. I am once again humbled by the generosity of this fine group - Keep on keepin' on!!! BE WELL!!!

REGARDS ---------------------- MARK
