Here are some of the Thanks I owe people. I hope I don't forget too

-- 1975 cards from Sal, Mike Rich, Tom Housley, JSG
-- A 1975 wrapper from Ed Schott
-- The last 1973 OPC Red Sox (Dewey Evans RC) from Spike
-- A set killer in the form of a TOUGH 64 Philly Bart Starr from Mac.
This is a blazer, probably the nicest card in my set.
-- A set killer from St. Al and Ken: A Bob Lilly RC which was in a
pile that they bought solely to help me out.
-- The last Helmar for my set from JSG, who picked it up at the Helmar
table at the National
-- A lead on most of a 51 Bowman Ted Williams for $10 from Mac. I
couldn't believe it when he called me and asked me to come over..
-- A pile of football that Sal bought while walking around with my list
-- A pile of non-sport and other goodies that Mark Talbot brough to
the swap for me. He finished off ANOTHER set.
-- A lead on some great deals on baseball and football cards courtesy
of Peter Mead.
-- Thanks to Spike + Mac for asking Kevin Savage to come over and look
at a large lot. It was too big for any of us to take on ourselves but
Kevin took it and let us pick through it before he puts it into his
-- Thanks to Al Cummings who demonstrated why he is known as "St. Al"
after I misplaced his car keys and gave him lots of stress.
-- And thanks to everyone who made it to the show, though I may have
omitted you in my report: Al Cummings, Ken Morganti, Sal Domino, Kent
Goto, Mike Rich, John Scott Gray, Ed Schott, Bob Reed (and Connor),
Chris Stufflestreet (and family), Gersh, Rob Gioia, Mark Talbot, Joe
Isaac, Bill Malson, Brock Hattox, Ray Luurs, Mac Wubben, Spike
Glidden, and Tom Housley.

This morning Al asked me if there were other shows coming up that
would be worth it for him. Fort Washington PA might be when they go
back to a good location but really, its only the National for me these
days. I can find the cards at shows or online but its only at the
National that I get to hang out with guys for a week. The only thing

weeks. I'm already looking forward to next year in Chicago.

special thanks to Steve Rittenberg and Mac Wubben.
Also, thanks to Rob Gioia for finishing off my 51 Topps Red Backs with the

the pesky 73 Topps Team Checklists variations, and the 71 Topps Scratch-offs.
I made some dents in my Bowman sets but have a long ways to go on them.

I got a new digital camera and I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going

whatever the pix I did take of the National.

In closing, I'll say what happened in Cleveland stays in Cleveland - Sal and

Subject: The National Swap Meet Report!!!

Hello All,

I arrived at 7 pm at the Hampton Inn and started meeting and greeting the OBC brethren and I knew immediately that my 3 hour drive to Cleveland was well worth it. I shook hands for the first time with Bill Malson, Mac Wubben, Connor Reed (Bob’s Son) and Ed Schott (who I managed to call Bob for the rest of the evening confusing him with Connor’s Dad). After greeting all in the room and handing out a specially prepared package to each, I grabbed a piece of pizza and the cardboard started flying.
John Scott Gray handed me an envelope with a SCP from the `50 Bowman set, none other than Tiger Vic Wertz. Wertz settled in the Detroit area after baseball and ran a beer distributing company and was known for his charitable work in the area. Thanks JSG!!!
Tom Housley handed me a small envelope that contained two of the `74 Parker Brothers Football variation cards that he got me started on in the first place. Gene Washington and Essex Johnson are now crossed off the list that now only has 15 cards remaining. Thanks for thinking of me Tom.
Steve Rittenberg handed me a couple of W-517 reprints that were given to him by Howard Morgan to hand out. Cool images of Lou Gehrig and Paul Waner among them. Thanks Howard (and Steve).
I met Connor Reed and we talked about his collection a bit as he was getting ready to collate a starter set of Donruss Champions courtesy of Mike Rich who had brought a large box for anyone who wanted a starter set. While he was at it Connor put a starter set of 36 cards together for me which will be added to my UV list thanks to Mike and Connor.
Spike Glidden handed me a couple of unusual items as he knows I enjoy “oddball” items. Added to the collection was an IAM Sugar packet of Babe Ruth and a type card from the `76 Funky Facts set that I have never seen before. Cool stuff Matt!!
Chris Stufflestreet brought a small box of dupes that I pulled a SCP for my Tiger collection – a `57 Topps card of utility man Bob Kennedy. Nice to see you and your family again Chris.
Steve Rittenberg handed me a grouping of baseball hits featuring a Don Wingfield postcard of my HOM’er Stormin` Norman Cash. Steve also included three Bazooka All-Time Greats with John McGraw, Dazzy Vance and Judge Landis. Steve was not done with me yet though as you will read later.
Mac Wubben stopped by and floored me with a SCP from the `53 Bowman B&W set, Cleveland Indian flamethrower Bob Lemon is now a part of the collection. This card came from a special OBC box at Kevin Savage’s table as I was able to pull some OBC gems from it on Sunday that had the same “Mr.” written on the back in front of the player’s name. Great find Mac, thanks for sharing it with me.
I swiped a couple of `74 Fleer Baseball First’s cards from the box that Kent Goto brought along. These cards should not be so hard to find but they are so I’m fortunate that Kent brought them along – Thanks Kent.
Steve Rittenberg wandered over and asked me if I had started collecting the `77-78 OPC WHA Hockey set, I told him I had but only had a few. He said “your now finished” and handed me a small folder that contained the entire set with Gordie, Mark & Marty Howe, Bobby Hull, Frank Mahovlich and so many others, but as you will read Steve was not done yet.
Ken Morganti got into the action by offering a difficult `63 Post card of Billy Williams for $5 and later flipped me a nicely trimmed `56 Topps Willie Mays gray back variation. Ken is always so generous it’s hard to keep up with him, thanks so much buddy.
I got into a nice conversation with Ray Luurs who allowed me to look through the box he brought and I grabbed a `55 Bowman upgrade of Hector “Skinny” Brown and a `53 Mother’s Cookies card of Pete Milne. I also a starter set of (9) `89 Master Bread cards with Tiger Alan Trammell. Thanks Ray, nice to catch up with you.
By now I managed to get a “comfy” chair near the television near where Larry Gersbach was sitting. Larry came up from the Cincinnati area with a box of cards to go through and I snagged a `66 Topps Dick Tracewski and a `67 Topps Hank Aguirre. Thanks a lot Larry and great to see you.
By now Steve Rittenberg saw me relaxing and he just had to get me busy, so he hands me a 3200 count box of Non-Sport stuff that would consume the remainder of my evening. By the end of it all I would pull cards for Indian Life in the 60’s, Cowboys, Lighthouses, Artic Scene’s, Heroes of History, Sights and Scenes of the World, Types of Nations, `56 Topps U.S. Presidents, `53 Bowman Presidents, `56 Topps Wings, `56 Topps World on Wheels and `56 Topps Davy Crockett. Hundreds of hits in all and then Steve has me look through some Basketball and I turn up (3) `71 Topps Trio’s for my collection. Before I’m done Steve asks me if I collect the `56 Gum Products Adventure set, I tell him I’m not and he throws me a starter stack of (48) of them. Steve says “this should get us close to even” – I would say so and then some Steve. I am floored by the wonderful things you bring each year to the swap and I feel fortunate that you allowed me to go hog-wild in a cardboard feeding frenzy.
I will be working all year to even us up my friend, thanks so much.
Finally, just hanging around with Sal Domino, “Saint” Al Cummings, Bob Reed, Rob Gioia and Joe Isaac was a blast. There’s not nearly enough time in the 4 or 5 hours we spent together to get caught up but it was great to see you all and I hope you will all make it to Chicago next year.
As is my usual custom at the swap meet I was among the last to leave and Mike Rich and I split the cost of a motel room about 4 miles away and spent another hour or so looking at cardboard and I got the low-down on the show. Before hitting the sack for the evening Mike slipped me a couple Nu-Card Hi-Lites blank back cards and added 14 more cards to my list as I was unaware of the variation and now with two of them I’m collecting them. Thanks I think Mike.
In my next “ramble” I will detail my day at the National – BE WELL!!!

Subject: Another National Report

I arrived in Cleveland on Wednesday with my 11 year old son Connor in tow.
We attended the show on Wed, Fri, and Sat and enjoyed it immensely. I had
the pleasure of meeting John Scott Gray, Brock Hattox, and Ray Luurs for the
first time.

Mac Wubben hits the 1950 Bowman set with 5 nice cards and 3 coins from the
1964 set. He also provided tickets to a Tribe game on Thursday for me and
Connor and allowed me to use his iPhone so I could set my fantasy team.
Thanks Mac!

Ken Morganti knocked off Cal Hubbard from the 1955 Bowman set. Thanks Ken!

Spike Glidden provided dealer scum material with 8 hits for the 1953 Bowman
Color set. Thanks Spike!

Chris Stufflestreet provided an SCP to the 1953 Bowman Black and White set.
Thanks Chris!

Kent Goto knocked off two more from the 1953 Bowman Black and White set plus
handed over an envelope that contained 3 more hits to other sets. Thanks

Sal Domino hit the 1971 coin set 7 times. Thanks Sal!

John Scott Gray allowed me to pick out 13 coins from the 1971 set and he
handed me an envelope at the show which contained a cool “beat the Yankees”
card of Rich Rollins. Thanks JS!

Tom Housley swaped some 1975 minis for some 1975 regular cards and picked up
a 1958 Joe Adcock for me at the show. Thanks Tom!

Ed Schott provided me with one of my most unusual trades. He gave me a 1959
Stan Musial in exchange for a BLT combo meal at Arby’s. He also hit the
1952 Bowman set one time. Thanks Ed!

Mark Talbot arrives at the swap with an envelope for me. After I spent 3
days at the show buying a bunch of cards Mark still went 3 for 3 on hitting
my list including the final 1974 Wonder Bread football card I needed.
Thanks Mark!

Steve Rittenberg came through big time. First, a 7 year upgrade to my 1998
SCD catalogue, then 3 cards to finish off a UV set, some 1969 football
stamps (separated and attached), numerous hits to my 2nd 1977 set which
looks like Connor is going to take over, and especially looking out for
deals at the show and letting me know about them. Stuff like 100 1964 coins
including a Mantle for $40 and nice looking 1952 Topps for $4 each. And
finally, I get an email saying he’ll be sending me the last 1972-73
basketball card I need, a Dr. J all star card. Thanks Steve!

I’m not sure who Connor got cards from but he ended up with more than I did.
I’m pretty sure Al Cummings, Mick Rich, and Steve did and possible some
others. Thanks guys for including him!

And thanks to the others that attended the swap, Joe Issac, Bill Malson, Ray
Luurs, and Gersh. Sorry I didn't have more time to chat and trade with you
guys. I think we had a total of 19 OBCers attend the swap.

I also have a few cards that I’m not sure where they came from so if I
missed anything or anybody let me know.

-Bob Reed (and Connor)

Hello All,

With my trip to Cleveland last week I have fallen behind on thanks so bear with me. I would like to acknowledge:

George Vrechek slaps me with a few Hockey cards Cesare Maniago from `74-75 and Greg Jolly from `76-77. George also includes a `53 TOPPS back variation (Tiger Ned Garver) and a couple more variations from the `81 Fleer set. Thanks for thinking of me George!!!

"Jimbo" Beauchemin connects with yet another `60 Leaf HI number with Gene Green being added to my collection. I didn't see too many of these at the National this past weekend so I still don't know where Jim finds all of these. Thanks again my friend!!!

"Rookie" Mike Mroz sends (9) T-42 - various bird's on Mecca, Piedmont and Sweet Caporal backs, very nice. To make it a true Michigan delivery Mike also includes a `62 Topps card of Tiger Jake Wood for my collection - way to go Mike!!!

Bob D'Angelo for 96 hits to a very shiny set that will get further acknowledgment on another server. Thanks Bob!!!

Thanks so much fellas, we will be leaving for a week on Lake Huron with our Annual Church Family Camp on Sunday so it's safe to say "I'll be out of touch" for about a week or so. I'm going to try to get some stuff out but it may just have to wait. BE WELL!!!

OBCers --

I sent Mac on a mission at the National and he came
through large with a pair of much needed T202s for my
list. Not only that, but Mac threw in a third one in
a "buy two, get one free" sort of deal! The cards
really feature some great players, especially if you
are a Giants fan. Roger Bresnahan, a HOF catcher is
on one of them, while Larry Doyle and the unfortunate
Fred Merkle grace another one. The Bresnahan card
features an interesting middle panel. McGraw had his
Giants wearing all black for the World Series in those
years, as I found out reading a book about him. The
middle panel shows a first baseman (not named)
fielding a pickoff throw. The guy is wearing all
black, but the runner trying to get back has NY on his
sleeve. Maybe another team wore dark jerseys like
that as well, but I'm not too sure. Anyway, I owe you
big, Mac!!

By the way, we found a house and close on the 30 Aug.

OBC Thanx go out to:

STEVE RITTENBERG-Goes beyond the call of duty by finishing off the
last four cards of my 72T set. How's Vic Davalillo
for an odd ball last card. Steve also provided me
with a Carl Gersbach football card, he was a former
linebacker for the Minn Vikings. I don't collect
football cards but with such a great last name this
will be the exception.

TOM HOUSLEY-Handed me an envelope in Cleveland with two 71T coins, Tom
Seaver & Sonny Seibert. My second Carl Gersbach card also
was given to at this time. (MR's rule states I must be
collecting Carl Gersbach cards now.) I was also able to
upgrade several mid 70T's from Tom's dupe box.

KENT GOTO-Luv any thing coming from Kent & this was no exception, 53B
B&W-Morris Martin, 51T-Redback-Henry Thompson & 52B-Mickey

SAL DOMINO-Wonder we love this guy, 52-Berk Ross card of Ferris Fain,
seveteen OPC's from 1972 & 75, and the 1965 embossed card
of the "Say Hey Kid", Willie Mays.

KENT MORGANTI-Lted his sychadelic hat & pulled out a group of 1960
Leafs that he allowed me to rake in.

MARK TALBOT-For nine 1975 & 76 cards & a current
year FOOT schedule for his home team Tigers.

MAC WUBBEN-At it again, this time with a fist full of 64T coins,
including many stars & the 53B B&W-DeMaister.

JSG the YOUNGER-Provided seven 1978 Hostess cards & several 71T coins
out of his dupe box.

ROB GIOAI-Was the first to hit me with cards at the National by giving
me three 53B B&W's. Nice first impression Rob, must be
thinking about politics after the fireman gig is over.

JOE ISAAC-Several 65T embossed cards & several 57T cards out of his
dupe box.

BOB REED-Em & weep, a great 1971 Cincy Reds Team album. The beginning
of the Big Red Machine. I think Housley was jealous over
this one.

BIG AL, ED SCHOTT, MIKE RICH, RAY LUURS, CHRIS STUFFLESTREET,SPIKE
& BILL MALSON also provided their dupes boxes for looking thru &
I am sure they provided me with hits.

Thanx also to Spike Glidden for allowing me to be his roomie for a
nite at the Cleveland Show. As always the cards were flying fast &
furious & any oversight in the thanx dept is tru
ely unintentional.

MIKE MR OZ-Followed the yellow brick road to Hamilton & provided
two 71T coins-Koosman & Mack Jones. Nice double play for
the rookie OBCer.

I will try and not turn this into a ramble, but many thanks need to
be given:
The day I left for the National, TJ Valack checked in with a small
stack of schedules (one of these days I will put together a list of
the few thousand I have on these). At the National, Steve buried me
with a stack of old mags, lots of misc. items, including a Dan Dee
Rizzuto and some Kahn's. Also a stack of 1979s with 1978 backs, I
love these type of miscut items! Lots of dealer scum also. Kent
Goto for selling me his VIP badge at pre-show prices (not that I have
paid him yet). Peter Mead hits me with a pair of 62 Jell-o's about 3
minutes before I nought one of them and a type card of a 55 Johnston
Cookie. Spike bought a set of 1976 Funky Facts, kept #5 for himself
and gave a few others, type cards. I got the rest, so I am close to
a set. Also for letting me rent a bed on Thursday nite. Mac hits me
with a T-205 Clarke HOFer and a 38 Goudey! JSG with a 50 Bowman BB
variation and gets me started on both Challenge the Yankees sets with
a pair from each year. Al with a big hit to the 1960 Bell Brand set
and most generous offers of the room, picking up a dinner tab,
driving (well maybe not thanks for the driving!), etc. Chris with a
1972 NFLPA Fabric Mean Joe Greene. Bob Reed for letting me use his
parking pass for 2 days and a 1952 Topps miscut. Sal with a hit to
my buddy's 1962 Topps BB list #400 Elston Howard and directions on
how to get an autograph for Bob Reed. Bill Malson with a Salutation
Exhibit card of Trout. Tom Houseley with a 73 high number. Mark
Talbot for making the hotel arrangements for Saturday nite, giving me
a T-218 Tolstoi (I had given all I had to Mark) and a pair of T-220s,
including Corbett. Ken Morganti for letting me raid his 71 Kellogg's
variations and splitting a lot of Red Man cards. I apologize if I
missed anyone else. See the ramble that I will get to for the others
I got to meet or get re-acquianted with. John McLaughlin, who missed
the show, sent along 4 1964 Coke Cap Colts. As most know these are
among my fav items. I also received 2 packages while at the
National, that were waiting on my return. Ken Monks of VCT and OPCC
sends along some Papa Gino Discs (he is checking for the ones you
need Steve) and Gary Cameron who is in CSCT sends along a bunch of
UV, plus a 1971 OPC BB Killebrew. This is extremely significant as
it COMPLETES my 1965-1980 OPC BB run!!!
I have yet to update my OBC lsits for any of the items I have
received. I hope to get to it this weekend.

Subject: My National

Well in my Nationals I was the source of admusement or irration depending
if you heard about it or was picking up after me. I promise If i ever go
again I wont wear anything to identify me with you guys. It hell growing old and
no one know why you cant remember things two seconds after you think of
them. I can remember wanting to do something take Steps to do them and then
wonder what he hell i am doing.

Any way the entertainment part, I lost my 1952 partial Roy Campanella
(remember showing Al and Steve in room have no idea where it is after that,) bought
three of four 1952 Joe Page/ JOhnny Sain cards i aleady had. I do remember
Gersch got one and Tom H. got the other two ---so they found good homes. Also
bought a 1952 card (high #) for Steve only to find I had i also....so Spike
is giving it a good home. I also found a card for Sal only to pay for it and
turning to talble across ilse and find it 60% cheaper.

Al is no lost because OBC came through with card I did need. Starting with
JSG the YOUNGER and MARK TALBOT came through with some 1956 Variations i had
on my LIst. Thanks guys.

STEVE RITTENBERG gave me a UV Bert card along with 1952 high # of Connie
Marrero in his dealer scum box.

Rest of the cards i received were wrecking havoc with my Twins set. KEN
GOTO wiped out most of my UV sets, along with AL CUMMINGS who hit my 2007 Twins
set I havent even put up yet. With most of the others SAL DOMINO. ED SCHOTT,
BILL MALSON, and TOM HOUSLEY hitting the vintage stuff. TOM H also added the
1962 GREEN Tints back of the list but I managed to knock it back down to two
. He determined that 6 of my green tints werent.

For the most part the last two nationals were a disappointment as most of
the dealers were dealing in topps and Bowman what oddball sets I did find were
limited to the years I wasn't collection. I had hoped to finish my 53
Mothers (2) and Johnston (2) Cookie set but found none. I did finishe the first
Helmar set(3) and bought the second set. Other than that i managed to pick up
some Blyleven (Cleveland regional) pictures and slides. Kurt sold me some
T-205 and T-206's he had for $20. some 1952 variations (finally quit going
after Sain and Page error cards) so besides the error cards i just need #307
Frank Campos with a Black star and 65 hight numbers to finish set.

The real reason I go to Nationals is I got to meet old friends (those not
picking up after me;-) and got to add 6 new names to list. They were MAC
WUBBEN, ROB GIOIA, BILL MALSON, JOE ISSAC, BOB REED and ED SCHOTT just misssing by
hours BRIAN DWYER and BROCK HATTOX . There was one other I missed but for
the life of me no name comes to mind right now.

I would like to end this for AL sharing hsi room and STEVE for lending me a
pass the first day for SPIKE lending a bed the second night. It really was
a pleasure to see all of you again.

MARK TALBOT sends out a birthday package that arrived today on my
birthday. And what a day it was. My parents came up along with my
niece and my mom cooked dinner. I have to say, the thing I miss most
since I moved out, even at the age of 35, is my moms home cooking. I
left Mark's package alone until everyone left and just now dug into the
envelope. Great planning Mark. He hits my 1960 football set with four
hits. Included are two Bears, one of them being Bill George. Now,
everyone knows about the linebacker legacy here in Chicago. Butkus-
Singletary-Urlacher. But the true fans know that Bill George was the
start of that legacy. Mark also includes a Lions team card - ugh,
those Lions. I have quite a few relatives in Michigan and they always
make some noise for the Lions - but only when they are winning. Yep,
they're fair weather fans. I can't stand it. That has fueled my
dislike for those darn Lions. Anyways, enough with my ramble. Thank
you so much Mark. I think that your birthday wish card that you send
out to the members of OBC is something that is truly unique and
generous. And I will do my best to live long and prosper. Thanks

Hello All,
This is a thank you and a Rambling all in one....
Thank you goes to Bob Corvello The Ole Friar Bob Invited my family and I
to his wonderful Home for a Lovely BBQ. We had a great meeting his family,
and then Bob handed me a box of cards in it bob hit my 55 bowman, 59 topps, 61
topps x2 64 topps x12 and my 65 topps X3.... Very nice hits. But the major
thanks is to Bob and his wife for inviting us to his house . We had a great
time .....until it was time to leave.
Our Time with Bob was cut LONGER what do i mean by longer??? well I'm
glad you all asked. When we arrived at Bobs house it was way out in the
country, and i didn't have pockets so i left my keys in the car.....Im sure you all
know where this one is going.....well as we are about to leave my kids are in
the car plying and we tell them to come out and say goodbye...well My little
trouble maker Tony slams the door and say goodbye, that's when I noticed my
doors were locked....the LIL....well lets say boy locked my doors....
OK im pissed but im a fireman so i can get in....oh yeah that only wors easy
with the right tools, and i wasn't at work so i didn't have many tools...I
tired to use a hanger and a screw driver i was in the car, but couldn't do
much. Finally Bob had a long slender piece of tin looked like a slim jim so i
tried it...pried the door open alittle to get it in, then hit the
button...AND.....NOTHING.....2006 toyota corollas have an anti theft lock so if the car
door is pryed open the button doesn't open...... I wish i knew that b-4 i put
all the scratches and dents over my door.....Finally mrs Corvello called AAA
for us and an hour later and 5 seconds later they opened the door....and we
were in.....
Never a dull moment with the Gioias, but al in all we had a wonderful
time and hope to do it again...THank you Bob and your Lovely wife

A couple selections stand out .... Rennie Stennet, ? Henderson (NL OF), Richie

it looks like there may be a "dangling chad" for Carlton Fisk.

Got home early Saturday monring after a ten day business trip to Delhi, India. No card shops to be had........and I keep taking naps trying to get my body clock back in order. A true experience.

Returned home to a number of packages--thanks OBC!!

Tom Housley sends a package he had hoped to give me at the National. Me too--sorry I was unable to make the swap (but it was my last chance to be with my kids for a couple of weeks). Now enscounced in my 1972 binder are a couple of nice upgrades--Gaylord Perry and a semi-high.

Mark Talbot continues our never ending trade--going into its sixth year by my reckoning. A number of upgrades to my 1966 set, a bunch of 1964 Topps coins, a magnetic Tigers schedule and a neat Wiz Kids item. Great stuff as always Mark--and I guess I have been tagged and am it.

Bill Ashton continues to fire stuff my way with an assortment of new odds and ends (I may even have to post a couple more odd new sets). Included were a number of early Bowmans from 1948-1952--seems I have a little work cut out for me to dig up a return package.

Chuck Paris sends four great T206s my way for a package that I hope to get in the mail tomorrow. It is too much Chuck--so I am going to have to send a player to be named later. Many thanks.

Thanks OBC

Steve Rittenberg achieves hero status by killing off the 1972-73 Basketball

in ’73 so it’s nice to final wrap it up after almost 25 years. He also does
some damage to the 1975 minis. Thanks Steve!

Ed Schott sends a puffy full of stuff. Twenty three hits to some late 70’s
second sets, an unmentionable item, plus eight ruboffs from 1966 including
Willie McCovey. Thanks Ed!

I recently celebrated the anniversary of my birth and that was making me
feel blue but Mark Talbot changes my color by sending birthday greeting in

Next up is Mike Mroz. He just won't stop! (And trust me, I'm NOT
complaining!). Mike sends seven hit from 69-70 and 75-76 Topps Hockey.
It is no exaggeration to say that most of these cards are pack fresh,
putting many in my sets to shame. Oh, the horror! :-) Thanks Mike!

Hello All,

With the beginning of school fast approaching I have been quite busy at work and even so I still have plenty of incoming items to be thankful for. So with no further ado please allow me to acknowledge:

From down in FLA comes (5) more shiny specimens from Topps most recent offering to the public from Bob D'Angelo. I'm getting oh so close on this one thanks to Bob and a few others who have helped. Thanks Bob!!!

Sending more shiny cards was long-time trading partner Kevin Martens. With (19) assorted hits to the list Kevin puts me so close to completing the newest Topps set that I will no doubt resort to groveling for the final remaining cards on the list on that other server (or I might try to find them on Sunday at the Redford show). A nifty Mickey Mantle HR card was also include so thanks old friend, your the best!!!

Well I think the web-pages are up to date and another pile of stuff is ready to ship out so Thanks to all the recent contributors to my collection - I hope to reciprocate in the near future. BE WELL!!!

The old is Grant Rainsley because, well he's old.
Plus he's sent a ton of cards towards my collection and started some of my bad

I won't detail the sendings out, but they were great...from as far back as 1956

Subject: FOOT gathering Thanks

Today there was a local card show which caused a gathering of a
handful of FOOT members (I would not make a good doctor with that
analogy). 5 FOOT Toes (much better analogy. Earl Kilborne has
labeled each individual FOOT member as a Toe, so I guess we were a
FOOTful today). FOOT members present were myself, Mark Talbot, John
McLaughlin, Chuck Paris and newest inductee, Mike Mroz. I was first
to arrive and was at OBC friendly dealer Mike Sandle's tables when
Mike Mroz spotted my OBC shirt. Note to new members, there are OBC
shirts and hats. Ken Morganti may still ahve some hats for sale.
Mark Talbot was not far behind and gave me a Tiger sked & almost
wiped out my early Conlon list. Chuck Paris made the long trip, and
handed over an envelope with a 62 Topps Stamp Album with Mantle and
other stamps in it. A few 69 Stamp albums, a 35 Goudey that was
quite interesting. Many of us have seen cards pasted into an album
with 5 glue dots. The 35 Goudeys have a puzzle back and this person
must have been working on the puzzle as the glue marks are on the
FRONT of the card. He also hit my E120 American Caramel list, which
was my 2nd in the set. As we know that means I am officially working
no the set, so later on at the show, I picked 1 up, so now I have 3.
Later Chcuk took us ot to his car (he would make a perfect predator
offering little kids goodies) such as some FB pamphlets, hits my
Kessler BB Handbook list, an RC Cola flat, an autographed Tiger card,
some beautiful B & W 8 x 10 photosr and a 1961 Topps stmap album
cover, absent the pages.
Returning to the show, Mike Mroz hands me an envelope full of skeds.
After the show, John McLaughlin went over to a local card shop where
John upgraded my 68 Topps set with a Seaver! We then went to
Eastside Mario's to watch the Tigers hang on in beating the Yankees
and John gracisouly picked up the tab.
Mike Sandles, in exchange for me buying him and his asssitant a hot
dog each, gave me a 500 ct Topps vending box almost completely filled
with 1974s and also a few 67s and a stack of 50 - 100 66s to pass
around OBC. I know Mike and John perused the box, but do not know if
they grabbed anything. Anyone just beginning those sets let me know
if you want some commons.
I did not get much today, but did get a few prewar cards and started
a new set; 1970 McDonlad's Brewers which I only need 2 cards(311 and
the logo card) to complete.

Little toe checking in here (if you see the pic I'm pretty sure I'm the smallest
and I'm definitely on the end).

It was only a 3 hour drive and I hadn't been to a show in about 3 years so I'm
really glad Mike encouraged me to go. It was great seeing everybody but
I missed Earl being there.... maybe next time (10/14 right Mike).

Mr.'s Rich and Talbot both hit my 50's lists and their knowledge of the dealers
helped me find a few deals. I was able to add three T206 Polar Bear'sto
my collection and picked up some publications from Oddball Larry including
a 1950 HS football program in which my school was the visiting team.

I also started a new set! The 1977 Sertoma Stars. I'd never seen them before.......
they have a puzzle back which is the T200 Pittsburgh National....
right up my alley!!! Anybody collect these? I've got a few dups now.

One other thanks...... I'm turning the grief Mark gave me over my Most Wanted
into an achievable Most Wanted to go along with my pie-in-the-sky version.
I'll expect you to hit it regularly Mark !!!!!!!!!

Thanks again guys,

Subject: This Week in Baseball Cards

Here's my account of our little gathering of the FOOT which took place yesterday at a nice little card show in Redford Michigan.? Upon my arrival I first spotted Mike Rich, who started things off by tossing a baseball to me from about 20 feet away.? Of course I dropped it.? When I did get a hold of it I discovered that it had a autograph from my HOMer, Mark Fidrych.

I was the last of the group to arrive, making it five of us.? Within a couple of minutes cards and other memorabilia started to arrive from each member, I was beginning to feel like Tony Soprano with people handing me envelopes.

The only negative thing about this was the fact that I have a very hard time finding stuff for some of these guys, so I'll have to work on some payback, but other then that, it was a great time.? Besides the great deals I got from dealer Mike Sandels and a trip to a local card shop which together amounted to a very large stack of cards, I'd like to thank a really great group of guys; Mark Talbot, Chuck Paris, Mike Mroz and Mike Rich?for their generosity.? I know this is getting a little long, but I just have to tell anyone who might still be reading this, some of what I discovered once I had the chance to check things out upon my arrival back home: Fidrych autographed baseball and Picture, 2007 Tigers magnet schedule, 1953 Bowman Del Ennis, 1955 Topps John McCall, 34 1959 Topps with a Charley Maxwell card right on top, 1966 Topps Jim Northrup sp high number which is the last Tiger card from that set that has eluded me for many years, a 1968 Joe Sparma, 22 1970 and 12 1973 Topps.

I think that's all but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm forgetting something.

Hello All,

It has been a number of years since we have managed to get a large grouping of FOOT members, the last time an outing of the FOOT had 5 or more "toes" was out at the "House of Maxwell" a few years back. As you have heard 5 of us got together on Sunday at the Redford Show - Chuck Paris, John McLaughlin, Mike Mroz, Mike Rich and I spent some time together flipping cardboard and memorabilia at one another and swapping a few stories as well. It was great to see all of them.
I haven't seen Chuck since the outing at Earl's home a few years back so I had to rib him about his quest for T-206 cards in EX condition. The reality is that I would like to see Chuck's collection of these cards as I know his passion for them. I share that passion with my T-218 quest and Chuck passed on a couple for that set. Chuck also contributed a Jim Landis Exhibit card, a `48 Leaf baseball card of "Snuffy" Stirnweiss, a `50 Bowman Baseball low number card of Joe Page and a `61 HI number of Charley James. If that wasn't enough a trip to Chuck's card netted me a few Tiger Stadium cups, a RC cola "flat" of Dave Cash, and a number of 8x10 reprints of turn of the Century Tigers with Bush, Mullin, Cobb, Jennings and Crawford for my newly established Tiger Collection. Thanks for all the great stuff Chuck and I will check out that "hitable" want list entry of yours (I love a challenge).
Yesterday was my first meeting with Rookie Mike Mroz, I think we managed to initiate him in proper OBC Fashion. All of us made sure that Mike walked out with plenty of additions to his collection and Mike made a mini assault on my `70-71 Topps Hockey set with (7) hits including Gamble, Veneruzzo, Morrison, Hillman, Goldsworthy, Pappin and Carleton. Thanks so much Mike - it was great to meet another member, hey and I can say I got one up on Steve (who along with Ken have probably met the most OBC members).
Mike Rich contributed (3) `75 SSPC cards for that small set including Wood, Cuellar and Medich. Mike also includes a `73 Topps Team Checklist of the A's with 2 **, a `75 Hostess panel with Wynn, Scott & Luzinski and the return of some T-218 Canadian cards I passed on to Mike a few months ago for him to upgrade or add to his collection. Thanks as always Mike, great to see you buddy.
I had to get back home to work on some "honey-do" items and was unable to join John and Mike at Eastside Marios but I did get a chance to talk to John about his recent trip to another local show at Gibraltar where he saw Tiger "hero" Willie Horton (Mike Rich's HOM'er). It was great to catch up with John, Mike M., Chuck and Mike R at the show, thanks for the goodies and the comraddarie. BE WELL!!!

Hi guys-

Been a bit out of touch lately--the three boys are at the ages where they
are on 3 different baseball teams, three different soccer teams, etc. You
get the idea. And with their schedule, work, and my new modified-fast-pitch
softball team, free time is at a premium.

Anyway, thanks today to Brian Betza, who surprise me with two nice 71's.
Thanks a ton, Brian.

Two packages need to be mentioned here...

Today, I received an envelope from WALKER GUTHRIE with a TCP, a trio
from the 64T set. Walker says he hopes the cards work for me...two
are nicer than most of the 64s I own, and the other one will fit in
quite nicely. Walker, when it comes to what I have on my wantlist, a
hole in the card is preferable to one in the binder.

From last week, I need to give out belated thanks to FATHER PAT, who
sent along a baker's half-dozen hits to the 1965T set. Included in
the pile was Cardinal pitcher Ray Sadecki...who I had the privilege of
talking with back in February over the phone. That made the stack
especially personal. Ray had some great stories...if he ever gives
his permission to do so, I'll be happy to share some of the stuff we
discussed with the group.

Great stuff, guys. They're getting ready to join their new friends in
my binders.

Take care,

Also, non-OBC'er Judd Morrison, a 70-year-old gentleman from Siloam

The two packages in today's mail knocked me out! I just came to and
have to post my thanks to Brian Lindholme and Mac Wubben. Brian sent
one of those elusive '33 Goudeys and two '40 Play Balls. Then he added
a '53 Topps, two '54 Bowmans, a '58 Topps, about 30 '59 Topps, and
6 '67 Topps. If that wasn't enough, he threw in a NM '36 S&S Game card
for the heck of it. All very nice and welcome additions!

Then I opened Mac's box and it was just as great! A beautiful slabbed
EX '40 Play Ball of good ol Schoolboy Hoyt was on top. An investment
beauty! Then a few '58 Topps including "Rival Fence Busters" Mays &
Snider, three '59 Topps including "Fence Busters" Aaron & Mathews, only
two '67 Topps but they were Aaron and Yaz, and to finish up about 180
beginner's set of '73 Topps.

This has been one pretty nice day! Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!

Subject: Thanks, plus a bit of an explanation...

Thanks to LINDA, WILLIAM, JOEL, WALKER, and JAMES!

A couple days ago I realized that I had EIGHT packages on my desk, an
issue that I needed to address. But first, I think there's something
I should say. I've been away, and I'm sure some of you noticed. I
haven't updated my wantlists since June, and before that, I think they
hadn't been done since April. So that was about the time that I just
decided to take a break. I've been trying to focus more on my
ministry and my family, and I think the cards got in the way of that.
I do that sometimes. Cards, for me, need to be an occasional stress
reliever after a hectic day or week, not a "hiding place" where I can
isolate myself from the world for hours on end.

The simpler way of saying all this is that the summer is a very busy
time for youth ministry, and I really didn't have the time anyway, but
I think I had a very productive summer growing closer to some of the
young people at my church, and my wife and two beautiful little girls.

I'm sure some of you have had times where you just had to put `em down
for a little bit. I probably don't need to explain that any more.
But anyway, I feel confident that I can come back to a little more
active status in the group, without overdoing it. There are a few of
you to whom I owe an apology, as well as a heartfelt thanks. I'm
gonna try to make it up to you, as soon as I can.

So, on with the thanks!

LINDA FITAK acts like I never left, sending THREE packages over the
last couple months. Some 1959, 60, and 61 cards, plus a neat
assortment of non-sports: Grease, Kiss, Rocky, Tron, and Mork & Mindy!
For someone who deals so much with non-sport cards, you sure are a
great sport! Thanks, LINDA.

WILLIAM ASHTON sent TWO packages, including a LOT of different stuff!
The first package had about 30 O-Pee-Chee cards from 1978 and 1979,
including 1979 Robin Yount and Eddie Murray cards! The second had a
1954 Topps Jim Pendleton card and a LOT of UV stuff, mostly from my
lists. Thank you VERY much, BILL.

JOEL GYSELINCK sent some airmail, including a 1972 Vida Blue, and an
assortment of UV stuff, too. Thanks a bunch, JOEL.

WALKER GUTHRIE found a nice 1971 Topps NL HR leaders card with Bench,
Billy Williams, and Tony Perez. Thanks, WALKER!

JAMES MOLETA sent a nice assortment of 1969 and 1971 cards, plus a
1953 Gus Bell for J.B. (the "church Bell project"). He just happens
to have turned 12 this week, so guess what I'm giving him on Sunday
for his birthday? Don't worry, I'll let him know it's not from me.
It's from one of the many cool guys at OBC.

And thanks, OBC, for putting up with jokers like me. It's still an
honor to be a part of this great band of brothers (and a sister or two).

more than i can say for myself :-( sorry for the postage steve, but thanks!

LINDA FITAK sent an extraordinalry fitak pack with hits to the 54 bowman, 77
kelloggs, 90 target dodgers and the (un)usual(ly large) hodge podge of sport
and non-sport hits alike. tnx linda!
