At the time, I wrote down that I had sent him a 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson valued at $350. He sent me a Brooks Robinson among other cards in trade, and I got upset because I did not think he had traded fairly. I asked him to undo the trade and when he refused, I sent back his cards and told him to just keep the Jackie Robinson. In fact, since I had sent him a 1953 card instead of the 1952 card, his attempted trade was probably very fair. Later I told some of you about my "bad experience" with Gary and complained about the trade. It turns out that I was the one who was wrong, and my failure to communicate properly caused ill feelings that have lasted too long. I am very sorry and have apologized to Gary and asked him to forgive me. If my actions have caused any of you to hesitate to deal with Gary, I would ask that you would give him an opportunity and ignore anything you might have heard from me in the past. My best guess is that this is a type I, however, it has both the team name and position on back. It is supposed to be 1 or the other I thought. None of the other issues make any sense, so even though I have almost 1/2 this set and none of the others have both, I think this is a type I. I put out a ramble to see if any obcers wanted to met up for the weekend, and with in a few hours Mike Rich replied with an offer to meet up oh yeah and put me up for the trip. So needless to say I took Mike up on his offer. Now as I pulled up to mikes house i should have know that this trip was going to be great, as it started on the right foot, For the first time in my life i got pin point directions on MAPQUEST.....i was floored when i pulled up to mikes house with out getting lost. OK, I pulled into Mikes place, unpacked , and then we went out to the Tigers game. We got into Downtown area and parked not too far from the park, and took a little "People Mover" looks like a mini subway to the ball park. We got into the park, and wow was it beautiful. we had great seats, upper deck, but right behind home plate. The Food at the Park was also great. I put down 4 hot dogs. 2 Hebrew national, 1 Chicago style and 1 regular, and YES mike was right, that Chicago style killed me...wow was I feeling it, I thought I was having a heart attack, but of course it didn't stop me for going for my 4th dog...LOL mike and I were bull shitting the entire game having great time watching the game and in conversation. Oh yeah the tigers won a squeaker. After the game we went back to mikes place and we chatted about cards more, and about sports.Mike also showed me his AMAZING card collection and I was FLOORED again. what a collection When I went to call it a night I found a few hits to my 54 bowman 73 and 64 Topps, 55 Topps double header and a 1986 tcma mets team set in my room...WOW better then the bed mints....LOL OK now for the second day in Detroit. Mike and I go to a local card show and Meet up with Mark Talbot. At the show mark hands me a stack of cards a ton of NY Islanders cards and 20 hits to my 61 Topps, 8 hits to my 60 Topps and 2 hits to my 60 leaf. WOW thank you Mark. At the show mike introduced me to a dealer who had great box's I found a ton of 50's and 60's for $0.25 each..... mike talked the dealer and got me over 40% off oh yeah mike also paid for the cards behind my back and would take my $$$$ so another big thanks to mike over 60 cards. Mike also told the dealer I drove in to see the Red Wings game and the dealer threw in a Red Wings Puck for me. again thank you. Now it was time for me to say goodbye It was getting close to face off at the Red Wings game. I went to the game and I got to tell you the fans in Detroit were so great They all embrace me I went solo, but all the people around me were nice we started talking I told them I came in form NY and they made me feel like part of their party...great people in Detroit... I was in Heaven as it has been one of my dreams to see a playoff game there, I had a smile ear to ear the entire time I LOVED it so much. So thanks go out to Mike Rich for the cardboard, room and the great conversation, thanks to Mark Talbot for the cards and the conversations as well I had a great time meeting both of you, hope to see you both soon at the Thank you very much Rob "The FIREMAN" ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. ================= Date: Mon, 21 May 2007 18:21:01 EDT To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com From: brockhattox@cs.com Subject: Thanks to Mike Thanks to Mike Rich for 1961 Topps stamps of Wes Covington and Billy O'dell. My life has become quite hectic of late and I am doing my best. Many thanks to extend so let me get to them. As mentioned before by Mike Rich and Rob Gioia earlier we had a chance to meet up at the local card show this past Sunday where Rob was in from NYC to attend the afternoon Red Wing game at the Joe. It was great to meet up with Rob for the first time, an impressive individual. Rob allowed me to garner a OBC special condition Hank Aaron circa 1956 with a white back that was on my variations list. That's one I did not expect to get soon so it was quite nice of Rob to have brought it along. Mike also had some nice cardboard for me from his recent trip to Canada - Mike handed me a `54 Redman card of Jim Busby for my collection and (5) assorted Jungle Chewing Gum cards for Kendall. As always Mike a pleasure and of course it was great to meet another OBC'er. To Mike Rich again for asking me to accompany him to the Pistons playoff game on Monday night. Mike treated me to a suite ticket provided by one of his clients, a real treat for me as that type of seating is way out of my league (dare I mention the $1000 sticker price on the ticket). The Pistons won, it was a great night to share Mike's company and meet some of his colleagues. I even learned a "short-cut" into the Palace of Auburn Hills that really worked well for us. Thanks so much Mike!!! From Fairfax VA, Andy Cook connects with (3) `72 HI# Topps football cards with Randy Johnson, Jim Johnson and Lion Dick LeBeau. Nice trimmed OBC specials that bring my collection just a little bit closer to completion. Many thanks Andy. My apologies to these fine traders for their generosity - to all BE WELL!!! REGARDS -------------------------- MARK -------------- Original message -------------- From: "mikesportsfan" A few days ago I received a few of the 1944 New York Yankee stamps from Spike to get me started on a set of unmounted stamps. Spike also tipped off the gorup to an Ebay lot that I won and received the other nite of some Nielson Chocolate cards. I received a Fitak pack, including a 62 Bell Brand Podres a TCMA hit and a possible proof card of a Conlon. Ant Arbeeny continues the dribble of cards into FOOT territory with a pair of gray back Globetrotter hits. Mark Talbot joined me at the local card show today and delivered yet another knockout of a T220 card along with a (gasp) graded 1967 Laughlin World Series card. Long time since I had a hit to that set. Finally, Joya to Gioia as Rob drives 10 hours to Detroit on Saturday and treats me teh Tigers vs. Cardinals game. As Rob is getting indigestion from trying a Chicago style hot dog, he buys me a couple of dogs. He also allowed me to steal his Mets drinking cup for my cup collection. Rob spent the nite and joined Mark & I at the show, which I hope he enjoyed getting a few hits to his lists. Rob left from the show and went to the Red Wings playoff game (unforunately we let him attend alone) as the Wings lost in OT. As I type this Rob is driving home to NY straight from the game. Give him credit for a long weekend. Great to have met another OBCer. Thanks to all of the above for continuing to make OBC a great group to a member of. BROCK HATTOX sends a 1934 Diamond Stars card of HOFer Chick Hafey, one
of the few players who wore glasses back in those days. (That's Hafey
with the glasses, not Brock.)

Chick Hafey came from California to the majors, probably a rarity
given how many other Diamond Stars players were born in New England
and the South. He never reached 1500 hits or 1000 RBI, but made the
HOF with a .317 lifetime average and excellence over a 13-year career.

Found this comment in Wikipedia on Mr. Hafey:

"He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. In 1981,
Lawrence Ritter and Donald Honig included him in their book The 100
Greatest Baseball Players of All Time. They explained what they called
"the Smokey Joe Wood Syndrome," where a player of truly exceptional
talent but a career curtailed by injury should still, in spite of not
having had career statistics that would quantitatively rank him with
the all-time greats, be included on their list of the 100 greatest

One of the best things about a long holiday weekend, is that it gives

Second package was from Linda Fitak via way of Don Rice. Linda had
sent Don a 1951 Topps Blue Back #30 Slaughter that had been taped up on
a wall or in a scrap book. Since it was 1 of the last 5 I need to
complete that set, Don agreed to send it along to me.
I also received a pcakge with 3 of the last 4 1967 NY Yankees Coke caps
I need and then a big swap that yielded the missing gremlin to my 53
Bowman Color set to re-complete that, a 1950 Bowman low number to get
that set to 8, a 1952 Topps red back variation, a 1948 Bowman FB sp,
getting that set to single digits of 9, 1 of the last 2 1953 Bowman FB
and 2 of the last 10 1962 Post FB, and finally a few upgrades to my
Bowman BB sets.
Thanks Bama and Don. Amazing that all of the above sets are getting
close to completion. Any further assistance would be greatly

arrest". Thanks Bill!

Thanks out to DOUG DEJONG who sends out a waiver claim with some bonus
cards. I was able to claim the other card #463 from the 61 set, the
Braves team card. Doug also throws in three bonus cards to fill holes
in the binders. By the way, I am loving these binders. I have up to
the 65 in binders now. IT's awesome.
Thanks Doug!

Subject: Chef cooks up an All-American classic!!!

Hello All,

I am back from a fun in the sun weekend in Los Cabos Mexico with my wife and what a wonderful time we had. I got home to a nice packages and a ton of emails that it has taken me days to get through. Time to thank Chef Ant Arbeeny who connects with a SCP from the `55 Topps All-American Football set with a Marshall Goldberg card. This is a very cool set that rarely sees any action so it was nice of you to think of me Ant-man!!!

I am dreadfully behind in Birthday greetings and pay-backs and will no doubt get further behind with the final week of school coming up but I will do my best to get some overdue returns out in the coming days. BE WELL!!!
