To Jim Beauchemin for a '60 Leaf Jim Woods card that arrived in the mail
today. Most of us have probably had the experience of starting a set, gathering
a decent amount of cards, and then stalling for a long period of time. My  '60
Leaf collection has been like that. I started collecting the set back  in
1960 when I was just starting high school. It sat there for about 30 years  with
about 5-6 cards in the collection until I resurrected my interest in  cards in
the early '90's. I picked off most of the low numbers during that  decade,
but the going has been very slooooooooow in recent years. Jim's  contribution
gets me very close to the halfway mark - 72 down with 73  to go. Something tells
me those last 73 will be tough to get, but that's  OK. Much appreciated, Jim.

Subject: Two Amazing hits from Talbot, and Cook

I just had the pleasure of receiving two of the nicer hits since I
have joined OBC.  They were amazing additions to my collection.

In a first time trade with Mark Talbot he hits me with 2 52 Topps, 2
53 Topps, 3 59 Topps high numbers including a beautiful NY Yankee
Team card.  A 56 Eddie Mathews was the next card staring at me
followed by 1955 Bowman Early Wynn.  The package was topped off by 9
1976 Topps football cards to cut that last nearly in half for me.

The second package was a little smaller but I've already learned that
when I open mail from Andy Cook I should be sitting down and making
sure that the Nitroglycerin is nearby.  9 cards, no big deal right?
Not unless those cards happen to include 2 T205's including HOFer
Roddy Wallace, 3 Canadian Goudeys including HOFer Lefty O'Doul, my
first Zeenut (1932), 1940 Play Ball, 1953 Mothers Cookies.  There was
also a card that was maybe my favorite of the set because I am a
Minnesota kid.  It was my very first 1961 Peter's Meat card.  I've
been looking for these things for quite awhile, but they are so hard
to come by at any sort of a reasonable price.

Wow, Mark and Andy, thank you so much.  What a treat to pick up some
cards like these in exchange for some dupes from my boxes.  Sure
beats paying the unimaginable amount of money that would have been
spent trying to acquire these cards at a show.

Belated thanks go out today to two OBC'ers who mailed in Superbowl
winnings this week. Bob Bannon sends over a nice four pack of 62's, including a high
number SP and #157 Wes Covington. The Covington is kinda special to me,

Its a real dreary day here in NY. Its been non stop  pouring since last
night, My basement has about a foot of water in it, so it  seems to be a bad
well mail call i go to the mail box and get pelted  with the heavy rain
and man its cold and i see nothing good in the mail, as i am  about to close
the mail box i see something in the back i reach in and its a  puffy.
OK the day might be getting a little better..... I look and its addressed
from Ft Pat.....I run inside, for 2 reasons 1 to open the puffy, and 2 to get
out of the rain...LOL in side the puffy Fr Pat sends a Hit to my 54 topps
almost hall of famer Gil Hodges ,a 62 post hit and a 62 topps hit.....oh yeah
also stuffed inside the puffy was 29 hits to my 61 topps  WOW WHAT a  hit......

Well once again the mailbox is jam full of goodies from fellow collectors and I am all smiles.  So let's get to the acknowledgments.

To kick things off Dan Angland allows me to raid his waiver wire of "odd-ball items".  Dan connects with some Donruss Yaz puzzle pieces, Yax scratch off, '88 Conlon's, and TCMA cards.  dan also sends along some skeds for that part of my collection.  Everyone knows how I love these odd-ball issues, thanks so much!!!  Kendall thanks you for the assortment of (8) British tobacco animal cards that you included for her Dan - nice touch!!!

Bob Bannon makes an assult on the Exhibit portion of my collection with (8) direct hits including a couple Salutations (Feller & Gordon), (5) Basic cards (Aspromonte, D.DiMaggio, Killebrew, Kuenn, & McDaniel) and a SCP from the `62 Stat-back set (Mahaffey).  I just got these into a binder over the weekend and it will be nice to fill (8) holes at once.  Thanks for thinking of me Bobby B.

Linda Fitak sends me one of the PHAMOUS PHITAK PACS - yes we are dancing around in SE Michigan because one of the special always "made to order" puffies from Northridge has arrived.  Headlined by a `51 Blue back of Gerry Staley, a `50 Bowman FB card of Dick Huffman, a `76 Shakey Pizza Luke Appling, an `80 Cramer Billy Southworth, (2) `92 Megacard Babe Ruth's, a `92 Ziploc Pee Wee Reese, (2) `94 Conlon's and a `01 Topps Heritage card - all hits to the want-list.  Along with all of that was a plethora of cardboard delights including Origins of Baseball, Target Dodgers, Crown Orioles, Domino's Pizza Tigers, Kobe, Shaq, Jordan and Manning cards and the usual assortment of non-sports.  included in the PAC were (22) assorted British tobacco and tea cards and (4) German ones.  Linda, I was kind of sulking around because I hadn't received a Phabulous Pac in some time, now with a mega-fix like this I bouncing off the walls.  Thanks Linda!!!

Rick Johnson makes a major impression on this long time trader as he releases a `58 Topps Roger Marris RC AND "The Mick".  Yes the soon to be M&M boys from this classic set are now scratched off the want list and I couldn't be more pleased.  I did my best to send a reasonably appropriate return package but I will always be in your debt Rick.  You are Topps in my book friend!!!

James Moleta slips me a few `49 Bowman cards "Boo" Ferriss and Barney McCoskey, both HI numbers from the set, a `52 Topps Tookie Gilbert black back, a `53 Topps Tommy Byrne black letter, (4) `63 Topps Stick-ons (Colavito, Davis, Pascual, and White), a `69 Topps Album of the Orioles, a `33 Goudey of Jack Quinn and finally a `84 Drake's card of Mr. October (only need "Iron-man" Ripken to complete the set).  That's one WOW puffy James, thanks so much.

Finally, Ed Schott allows me to claim (2) `61 Topps football cards from the waiver wire.  A couple of HI numbers with Richie McCabe and Mack Yoho are now added to my growing collection.  Ed these are just right for my set.  Thanks!!!

Mr. Moleta does not come to Washington.  James was expected to visit town last week and we were hoping for a quick get together--unfortunately it didn't pan out.  But James still sends a care package my way from Sugar Hill.  A 48 Bowman Barney McCoskey, a 52 Topps Marlin Stuart, and a couple of 53 Bowman colors--only Marion and Furillo.  I am a little late in getting to the PO with thte cards I had pulled for you--hopefully I will get them in the mail on Monday.

Mac Wubben was also supposed to be part of our "didn;t happent" get together.  One of these days we need to set up another lunch for the greater DC area OBCers.  Mac is kind enough to share a few gems from his doubles box--a 53 B&W Johnny Wyostek and three of his smaller Bowman cousins from the 1950 set. Thanks Mac.

Jim Beauchemin sends one of those tough high numbers from the 1960 Sports Novelties sets (1960 Leaf).  Gino Cimoli slips into the sparsely populated section of the binder.

Dan Angland shares some of his recent waiver wire with me--a 1970 Harn Aaron scratch off.  Many thanks.

And last but not least--a veritable cornacopia of cards.  It can only be a FitakPack.  The request came from her offering of a 70-71 OPC AS card of Bobby Hull (and if you have read this far I have a question--is it Gilbert Perreault on the back of the 70-71 OPC AS set?).  But of course Linda can't send just one card.  A 51 Bowman Lloyd Merriman and a 61 Fleer FB Paul Lowe sit atop about a 50-card stack of the fun and unusual.  Some standard FiPack items--Kobe, Michael (and that other Michael too), Shaq, and Peyton.  Tron and cards in German.  Cigarette or tea cards of flowers, royalty and animals. I Love Lucy and the Bionic Woman.  My favorite might be card number 124 from the Bulgaria Sports-Photos set--depicting  "Richter und Hogan," standing in front of a soccer goal--looks like circa 1950 or before.   Many thanks Linda!

The soccer card is from 1932.I had some soccer cards from a 1928 set
but a local soccer card collector eagerly bought them all because he
said they were the oldest soccer cards he had ever seen.He paid me $1
each and i hope i don't find out someday they were some rare valuable
set and worth a lot more.He offered to buy all the cards i had from the
1932 set too but i said i wanted to keep them to send out to bb card
collecting friends.
I also have some track and field cards from the 1932 Bulgaria Sports-
Photos set i have sent out occasionally but since my husband Tim was a
runner on his Jr. High school track team and it is his favorite sport
he snatched up most of the cards with runners for himself-Linda

Hello All,

Mike Rich and I got together at the Redford show and spent some time at OBC friendly dealer Mike Sandles table.  We went to lunch afterwards where Mike clobbered my T-218 set with (24) back variations including (5) Tolstoi backs.  Combine this with an eBay lot of 90+ cards and my back variation chase has taken a real beating over the last 3 days.  I expect some more from Erik Greenwood and then I will update the entire group on my quest for the "master" T-218 set.
Mike also found (5) of those pesky `80-81 Topps Basketball trio's and a SCP of Dave Cowens from the `75-76 Topps Basketball set.  Add a couple of `94 Conlons and some great company and we have the makings for a fine afternoon.  Along the way Mike let me buy from him (17) `71 Fleer Globetrotter grey backs that he had picked up at the show.  For me it was a very successful show, thanks in part to stuff Mike kept sliding my way.  Thanks again Mike, always a pleasure to get together with you at the show - BE WELL!!!!

Dan Angland sends along some UV waiver wire hits.
Today, I met up with Mark Talbot at a local card show.  Mark walked in
and handed me a pair of T-220 boxing cards and a 1988 Indians Gatorade
card.  Later we went to East Side Mario's for some Chicken strips and
drink.  Mark graciously picked up the tab and while we were there we
swapped a bunch of T-218s.  Mark also threw in a 1948 Leaf Boxing card,
finally getting me over the unlucky 13 on the have list.  Meanwhile my
T-218 list seems to have more ups and downs than the stock market.
I had a great show with getting type card hits and some E & W cards.

Hi gang,
A trio of letters broke up the mail drought today. I'm going to do
something a little different today and type up my thank you note as I open up each
envelope - isn't this extra exciting? OK< here goes: the first envelope comes
courtesy of Peter Mead and contains... rip, rip, rip... a Billy Hoeft and Ned
Yost from the 1962 Topps set. These are both the pose variations, which Peter
notes that I should have on my wantlist, even though I'm not colleting the green
tints the second time around. The Yost is a card I didn't have either version
of, so I'll keep that. I'll keep the Hoeft too just to make Grant jealous
that I have more 62's than him  THANKS PETER!!
Next up on the pile is the envelope from Brian Betza... slice... Brian's
letter has a SCP hit to my 1958 list in the form of Lou Burdette. The note says
that since Grant couldn't hit my list from the Superbowl and chose to hit
Brian instead, this card comes from both Grant and Brian. THANKS BRIAN (AND
Finally, the delivery from Dan Angland... tear, tear... ah, the final five
cards I need from a set that should otherwise be recognized on the UV server
(but won't since I've already started typing it up here) Due to a typo on my
list, I do still need one card to complete the set, but it's the one everyone
else needs because it wasn't supposed to be issued. Therefore, I'm putting the

Feats.I was amazed at some of the statistics of some of the players on

both games of a double header and pitching shutouts in both games!

I want to take a line or two here to apologize for the minimal amount of
cardboard that has left Evansville in the last year or so. A combination
of factors including a lack of available vendors such as shows, shops,
people and flea markets to purchase from and fill my shrunken dupe box;
a lack of time to spend on ebay looking for stuff and also time to
search wantlists to find matches for the dupes I still have; and a
hopefully, temporary, a lack of the extra funds I generally used to
finance my hobby, which means when I do get onto ebay I can't spend as
freely as I want to. I was saving to buy that darn Honus Wagner card but
they sold it before I could gather all my funds. Well, I hope 2007 is a
better year.

tobacco cards.    I now have a nice little collection of these train
cards, along with many other non-sport tobacco.  I am just wondering if
anyone has started collecting any of these tobacco's that Linda has
sent out.  I have jumped on board the train collection, picking up a
few cards on ebay.  A wantlist will likely follow after the Chicago
show later this month.

League leader, Nolan Ryan and National League leader,J.R.
Tim likes this card the best because the back shows that J.R. had a
league leading 303 strikeouts while Ryan lead his league with "only"

Hi gang,
Mike Rich e-mailed me wondering if I had gotten a package he sent last
weekend along with a couple others that had already been acknowledged. The mail
is apparently running a little slow east of the Connecticut river, as the
envelope arrived today - or it could've been because Mike asked about it's
whereabouts, which usually happens when an eBay buyer/seller asks where their
payment/package is. Anyway, Mike described it as 'not much of an envelope' and I guess
that's true... it is a kinda plain looking envelope with a Mel Ott stamp,
nothing special. The CONTENTS of said envelope are another story - a SCP hit to
my ever so tough 1963 Fleer FB set. It's the last card in the set, 'Bud'
McFadin that Mike found while reorganizing his variation box. I'm not sure if I
should call it a random act of kindness, a late addition to my Superbowl win, or a
congrats for being re-elected to the OBCAC as Mike's note states, so I'll
just call it "very much appreciated". THANKS MIKE!! TAYL,

Hi All!

Two envelopes arrived today, containing some very interesting cards.
First envelope was from TOM HOUSELY, who sent in 5 good hits to my 1976
Topps Traded set, leaving me just four cards to finish off that set!  Thanks

The catchup envelope was from CARLOS ALCAZAR, who sent in another six
hits to my 1976 Topps traded set, so thanks for those last week, Carlos!

The other interesting envelope that arrived today was a 13-card salute
to my 1957 Topps wantlist from CHRIS STUFFLESTREET.   These babies are not
Tipton mint by any stretch of the imagination, pointy corners, bright colors
and all!  Thanks Chris!

LINDA FITAK-Pack attacked Hamilton OH. The huge envelope contained the
usual assortment of unusual cards OBC has come to enjoy
receiving from the west coast. Included in the burgeoning
package was 1960 Fleer-Chief Bender, 1960 Leaf-Jim Rivera,
65T Embossed-Ken Boyer, 64T-nosebleeder #556 Mets Rookies,
& 1977 Hostess-Jerry Royster.

ED SCHOTT-Me a really nice Hi# 63T-Joe Schaffernorth.

The Chief Bender card reminds me of a story. The gentleman who ran the
Cincy Reds Minor Leagues for many years was also named Chief Bender.
He was with the Reds organization for well over 30 years. He also
happened to live in Hamilton & play tennis in the same morning group I
did. Early in his career he was a minor league manager for one of the
Southern League teams. The radio announcer for this team had the first
name of Chick. The radio station had a program where Chick did a pregame
interview with the manager & the show was called the Chick & Chief
Show. During the very first airing of the show, a call came into the
studio from some elderly woman who complained that she felt that the
name of the show was terrible, "The Chicken Thief Show". LOL

Hello all,
Today I got home from a long 24 hour tour at  work...and man did we run
our you know whats off..I was exhausted. When I got  home all I wanted to do
was hit the sack, but.....I come home and find 3 puffy  packages.

2 of the Puffys were from OBCers and 1 was an Ebay  purchase.

The Ebay Purchase was a 1957 Topps Checklist second series....

Now to the Thanks

The first puffy i open was from Chris Stefflestreet and It contained 11  hits
to my 57 Topps ...and one of my HOMers Johnny Antonelli

the second Puffy was from Ken Morganti this puffy had
a hit to my 53 topps,
6 hits to my 56 Topps
15 hits to my 58 Topps

From a break in the honeydew list, I was greeted by the kids with a couple
of surprises today. The first is from Linda Fitak. Linda sends another batch of
cards for me to research what they are, but of course some of them are to be
read by my wife as they are old German cig cards. As well Linda sends some
great  post-80's, quite a few Cleveland Indian cards, and a 1967 high number
whittling  down that set by one more.

Many thansk to Ken M. for two great 56 grey backs of Freddie Marsh and Art
Fowler. The Fowler is the "updated" variation (a variation that is found
quite often in my collection). This one was updaed to show Art had been
traded from the Reds to the Dodgers.  Apparently the original owner was
VERY meticulous with his cards--he uodated both the front and the
back.   And Ken sends along a nice 55 Bowman of himself--hmm, he also
appears a it older than when last we met.  thanks Ken.

Subject: Morganti Spreads Some Hobby Love

We all know our own Ramble King KEN MORGANTI is good at spreading some
stuff around.  When the stuff he's spreading is cards to good homes,
he's an OBC All-Star of the '61 Topps variety!

Thanks to Ken for including me in his latest waiver wire. Ken drops 24
cards from my Topps wantlists of various years from 1951-'67.
Highlights include a very nice 51 Red Back of Bill Werle, a Willard
Marshall from my "Impossible Dream" set (52T), an "updated" variation
of the 1956 Chico Carrasquel card, Yankee hurler Ralph Terry from
1962, nine hits to the '65 list including a Boyer/Santo/Willie Mays
leader card and two checklists and four '67s including team cards for
both the AL champs of '66 and the defending champs of the previous season.

Ken also sent three other cards that weren't on my wantlist.  They
were '60 Fleer cards of Ed Walsh, Pie Traynor and Yankee Red Ruffing.
Those are the first three cards I've ever owned from that set...and
I'm considering adding it to my wantlist.

Wyatt the mailman has been very busy thanks to my trading friends, so quick thanks to:

Erik Greenwood who sends (16) T-218 back variations my way including a Tolstoi Back, with the help of Erik and Mike Rich this insane quest for the "Master Set" of T-218's has really taken off.  I will be on the lookout for years to come (especially on the Tolstoi's), but this set has become quite special to me.  Erik is getting (7) of the cards he sent my way back because I don't have replacements for them so I will be looking for those as well.  Erik you know how special this trade was to me - Thanks so much!!!

Peter Iversen also sends another T-218 back variation my way of James McEntee and a `73 Fleer Baseball Firsts card explaining how Standardized Rules in Baseball came to be.  You know how I enjoy the "oddball" issues Peter - Thanks so much!!!

Ken Morganti sends a SCP from the `66 OPC Baseball set - some guy who was at the beginning of a long career in the majors - Phil Niekro.  Thanks for thinking of me Ken!!!

Free-lance trader Doug Pederson of Westford MA sends me a huge stack of (56) assorted Hockey from 68-69 through 70-71.  With names like Desjardins, Mikita, Mahovlich, Ullman, Keon, Horton, Tkaczuk, Ratelle, Gilbert, Giacomin, Hall, Believeau, Lemaire, Cournoyer and Savard - this was no ordinary lot. I haven't had the time to go through them all yet, but I've seen a

star power.  So anyway, the deal is he sold me a few cards, at a
ridiculously low rate, so I would have a little better dupes box to
send stuff out.  Be looking for chunks of it listed as availables when
I get through them and get the time to post.  Thanks, KEN, I can
definitely use them.  I've come up with about 100 hits, and a lot of
good old stuff to hopefully give out, either to the guys in OBC or

Thanks to long time trading friend Mark Talbot for a package with a
great variety of cards and book plus autographed photo.Mark gets me
started on the 59 set now with a Hi # Tony Kubek so Mark is the 2nd
trader to "show me the Tony!".He adds 2 1961 Post cards of 2 other
greats of the Yankee infield from the 60's-Bobby Richardson and Clete
Boyer.I guess the word got out  that my husband Tim collects track
and field athlete cards because he was a track star in Jr. High
school and broke several of the school records at various
distances.Mark sends 2 T-218 cards for Tim making them his oldest
track and field cards.And of course no package from Mark would be
complete without at least 1 J.R. Richard card.He sends a 1978 Topps
of the Astros fireballer.Add a great book in the baseball legends
series on my favorite player of all time, The Mick,and an autographed
photo of Yogi Berra's son and that rounds out this most exciting
selection from Mark- Mark also helpfully sends a checklist for the T-
218 Champion Athletes set listing the Track Stars and i am sure Tim

....but not much else!!!  LINDA FITAK couldn't even fit all these into
her patented envelope so instead they were puffy protected.  My first
ever graded card (although my son's bike ride was a little rough with

Topps, a '56 high number, '63, a '67 Bobby Wine, a '65 Pirate Bob
Friend, a nice '52 Bowman Pirate Bill Howerton, a '59 FB Mel Triplett,
and my FIRST EVER '60 Leaf Pirate Bennie Daniels (but since she sent my
first '52 Topps I shouldn't be surprised!!) Of course a plentiful
bounty of oddball cards which are easier to sort now that I've seen

Ken Morganti and his fellow union employees on strike has meant one
thing for certain for OBC. Ample time for Ken to deluge us with piles of
cards. Well, I'm glad you guys are back to work  I am a 26 year member
of the BC&T local 280, (probably most of your bread, buns and cakes come
from BC&T shops), and I know strikes are a pretty tough time for all,
especially if they go on for awhile but they are sometimes a necessary
Anyway, in his time off Ken managed to send tons of cards out and a
puffy came my way too. It included five '68 Topps Game cards, (TDavis,
Staub, McCarver, Fregosi and McCormick), which should knock that list
down to a dozen. Also, three '56 Topps cards, (Dale Long & some guys),
and a big pile of Post cards from three years, six from 1961, (Bauer,
Haddix, more guys),  nine from 1962, (Kuenn, Gilliam, CBoyer, JPerry,
lotsa other guys), and three from 1963, (Sanford, two more guys). Thanks

Subject: yikes - lost envelope just found with a Rich reward!!

I was cleaning out my car and I found an envelope that had fallen
between the seat and the divider.  The good news was that I found an
OBC envelope.  The bad news is that it had been sitting there for a
month with no thanks having been given out.

I quickly ripped into the envelope and found 4 1960 Posties (3 1963 and
a 1962) along with a 1971 signed Bill Zepp card.  Turns out Bill Zepp
has been hanging out in some of the same circles as Mike Rich and Mike
was kind enough to get an autograph for me.  You see, Bill Zepp pitched
for the Minnesota Twins for the Minnesota Twins in 1969 and 1970 before
a short stint with the Tigers in 1971.  Those years were some of my
first years in collecting and you have to understand that a Minnesota
Twins common was more valuable to a 7 year old in my neck of the woods
than any card with the names Jackson or Ryan.

Hi all,
A couple of envelopes graced my door the last couple days. Today's mail
comes from Steve Hitzeman, who celebrates my winning a Superbowl square by
sending me the Moon... well, it's the 1962 Topps version of Wally Moon. A nice SCP
hit - THANKS HITZ!!
Yesterday's mail produced two noteworthy deliveries. Now, I've had the
pleasure of meeting exactly two people named 'Kit' in my lifetime. They both
happened to send me something in the mail yesterday. The first was a catalog from
Kit Young, which didn't yield any hits to my list that I wouldn't have to pay
a fortune for - that got filed under 'T' for 'trash'. The other mailing was a
SCP from Kit Okamura, who also adds to my Superbowl pile with a SCP Warren
Spahn AS from the 1958 Topps set. This is really going to look out of place, not
becuase it's one of the few cards in the back page of the binder, but because
it has corners and is essentially devoid of any extracurricular writing on the
card. That also gets filed under 'T', but for "THANKS KIT!!" TAYL,

I was getting ready to ship out a package of returns to Erik Greenwood when Mike Rich called and told me he had 4 of the 7 cards I was going to have to return to Erik (I didn't have dudpes and they came from Erik's singles collection).  We got together today and I walked away with 3 of the cards so I will only have to return (4) to Erik.  All totaled with Mike and Erik's help I have eliminated almost 40 of the back variations I seek - Awesome!!!  A few years back when I started this set I never dreamed I would accumulate over 450 different specimens for this set.  The quest continues.  Thanks again Mike (and Erik too)!!!

Lots of hits this week.  Many of us know the feeling of a LONG ROUGH
day of work being brightened by OBC package(s) when we got home.
Work has absolutely exploded lately and I have been working 7 days a
week, with little let up in sight.  The trip to Chicago for the Sun
Times show is not possible.  My idea of time off the last few weeks,
is leaving after 10 hours, without a lunch break.
The other nite, I received a FITAK pack with 10 hits to my actual
lists, plus the usual Linda assortment of eclectic material.  The
hits included a 1938 Churchmans Boxing, bringing to within 20, a 1976
Shakeys (rare hit), a 1980 Laughlin 300/400/500 hit (am I the only 1
in the group actually collecting these?), a trio of Conlon's, a 4th
series Cramer Bb Legends card of local legend Kell, a pair of TCMA
cards and a type card I had to look up of a 1968-1974 Basketball Hall
of Fame Bookmard card.  I give myself credit for ID'ing it, as I
doubt many of us have ever heard of that set.  GREAT as always, Linda!
Last nite, I came home to 4 OBC envelopes.  Ed Schott sent me 2 Tab
caps (consider these part of my Coke cap colelction), that almost
escaped teh envvelpoe, but the PO saved and repackaged them.  The
envelope was graced by a Greenberg stamp.
Mac Wubben sends along a 1953 Topps black bio variation and a type
card of a Churchman's Golf card.  Anyone know if this is from 1938
also?  His envelope was also graced by Tigers legend Greenberg.
Peter Mead sends along a SCP graced by Mel Ott of a 1969 Atlantic Oil
Aaron, as that set continues to be nibbled away at.
Bob Neill said he made a mistake and picked up an extra Lake to Lake
Sheffing which I became the beneficiary of his mistake.  All I can
say, is keep making thoe kinds of mistakes!

Fitak attack in Connecticut - but I don't know where to begin in  description.

I knew Linda was going to send me a '53 Bowman Furillo, a few WWII cards
made in Germany, and some cards about old TV shows we reminisced about during an
Instant Message chat one day.

Well, I get the package today, what you could call a really puffed up  puffy.
Anyway, inside I find the cards she said she would send along with a note
indicating she also found a hi # '66 Red Sox.She neglected to mention that she
also included a '65 Embossed Ron Hunt, a '60 Fleer Joe Tinker, what looks like
a  very large '77 Hostess card of Fred Lynn (does anyone know what that is?),
other  Red Sox stuff, and about 40-50 other cards, some sports and some
non-sports,  most of which I don't even recognize. Some seem to be tobacco cards of
plants  and flowers. Others represent a motley collection of all kinds of

Boy, am I going to have great time researching and setting up new files.
This is a control freak's dream and I am certainly in that category.

I'm back from spring training.  Great trip, despite the horrendous
traffic going down around I95 Baltimore, the near-miss of a tornado in
Georgia,  a cloudburst in Jacksonville, and a snowstorm waiting for me
on the way back up.  Saw seven games, four at Space Coast, two in Vero
Beach, one at Port St. Lucie.  Stopped in Chincoteague Island for a
couple of days on the way home, to wait out the storm.  Great weather
for the most part, makes me wish I'd done it many years ago.  Will
definitely plan on it again next year.

Digging through the mail, I find two great obc packages to send along

Peter Mead sends along two nice hits to my Bowman sets, plus an upgrade
of one of my Top Five All-time Favorite cards, the 1973 Jack Aker.

It's a mega collection of #5s, including four tough type hits from the 70s! 1975 Praeger Ty Cobb, 1975 Great Plains Greats, 1978 TCMA 1941 Dodgers, and 1980 Franchise Babe Ruth all come off the list. Linda includes another dozen modern #5s, including British cigarette cards, some baseball, and some international. Plus, a 1949 Bowman of Hoot Evers! Just a great arrival all around.

I was expecting, and got, a Coke Cap from Ed Schott.  It is one of my childhood
heros - Vada Pinson.  I saw him play in Seattle in 1958, on his way upto
the majors, and you could easily tell he was someone special.

I was expecing the SCP (Single Cap Pleasure) but Ed also sent a 2005 Upper Deck
Classics card of Vada Pinson.  Yeah, it's UV but I think that new cards
of vintage players are exempt from the vintage-only rule.  Vada was a heck
of a player in the 60's.  Then, to put the cherry on the sundae, Ed mailsthe
envelope with a Mel Ott stamp!

1987 Brooke Bond Tea Cards - "Unexplained Mysteries of the World" - this card
writes of the February 1861 "Fall of Fishes" in Singapore, which resulted
from an earthquake.  Fish apparently fell from the sky for three days.  Yikes!

1933 Aurelia Zigarettenfabrik "Frauen die der Schohneit Krone tragen (Womenwith
the crown of beauty)" - featutres a Fraulein Ribeyra from Peru

1934 Staat der Arbeit und des Friedens (The country of work and peace).  The
following is from www.germancards.com:  This set is sub-titled "One year of
Adolf Hitler's government" and aims to show how the NSDAP had maintainedpeace
and created employment.  The set was issued shortly before the "night
of the long knives."

of drawings featuring Karl May in different areas of the world.  germancards.com
didn't have any mention of these.

That's it.  My brain hurts.  I don't want to figure out any more German.  I'd
love to know if anyone even read this far.

I have been working more hours than I am accustomed to lately.  Rare
days off and 11-12 hour days has become the norm with little let up
in site.  Had to miss the Chicago show last weekend, so those
packages when I do get home are true pick me ups.  OBC packages this
week included a SCP from Gran Rainsley of a disputed 1962 Post
Canadian BB shortprint.  Why disputed?  SCD lists this as a
shortprint, but Canadian Sportscard guide does NOT.  Grant, the
highest authority (after all he used to carry a gun) claims it is one
of the op 10 hardest in the set.  Howard Morgan had told me he had a
Batter Up or 2 for me.  Instead 8 graced my mailbox to give me some
of the color variations plus a solid hit with a high number
I also recevied 2 payback packages from non-OBCers Rick Lyons and
Dennis Hollenbeck.  Dennis, especially, was exceedingly generous with
cards such as Lake to Lake BB, 45 1974 Parker Bros. FB (set of 50 I
only had 3), a pair of type year Zeenuts, a type card 1910 Contentnea
T209 card (had to look that 1 up), 1955 Topps Doubleheader, 53 Topps
bio var., 49 Bowman BB var. and 1950 Bowman hit.  This was our 2nd
swap.  Meanwhile Rick sent 5 of the last 10 1969 Topps stamps I need,
plus other Topps inserts such as 61 & 62 stamps, 63 stickons, 64
stand-ups and a 65 transfer.  As I said great pick me ups.

I received two very fun packages today from OBC members.  The frist
package was from Steve Rittenberg.  In some return fire he knock off
two very difficult cards.  The first was a 1961 which is one of the
toughest high numbered cards in that set.  That knocks my need list for

Hello all
Today was the Westchester show in white  plains.....let me tell you It
SUCKED no real deals.
BUT i did run into an OBCer wearing a MAROON OBC hat. Good Ole Friar Bob
COrvello was in attendance.
Bob comes in and hands me 2 hits to my 55 topps and 2 hits to my 61 topps
then he treats me to a fantastic lunch. During and after Lunch Bob and I got a
chance to shoot the breeze for awhile and it was quite fun. I think that was
the  best part of the show just chatting about sports and other stuff with bob.

Now to the show....same amount of vintage as usual but no real deals. I  went
to my favorite dealer and picked up 2 cards  bought a 53 topps Mathews  in
good shape and a 58 topps A/S williams in vg shape for alittle under  $60  ok
deal nothing great i also picked up a 58 Killebrew in P shape for  $11 so those
were my only buys at this show.
If your thinking of coming up tomorrow i would suggest not coming its not
really worth it
but i still had a great time

Hello All,

I have had quite a week; the boss was out a few days which always increases my load at work.  I just started another course in my second Master�s program meaning more homework, reading etc�.  All this leaving less and less time for the hobby but it has not stopped you guys from filling the mailbox.  I will spend a good potion of this early evening updating the lists and need to take this opportunity to thank some great collecting friends.  Thanks to:

Chef Anthony Arbeeny sends a SCP from the `76-77 Topps Basketball set, but what a SCP it is.  One of the final 3 cards I needed � Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, only Gervin and an unmarked checklist to go close out this set thanks to the generosity of the Ant-man!!!

Bob Bannon really makes a big contribution to my collection with Topps and Bowman Baseball hits.  A couple of `51 Topps Blue-backs with Enos Slaughter and Joe Page added and a couple of `53 Bowman Color cards with Duke Snider and the Rizzuto/Martin card.  Bob also includes a `48 Bowman card of �Snuffy� Stirnweiss for a set that rarely see any action.  I�m putting the final touches on my return package Bob � Thanks for the great trade.

Kit Okamuro finds a � dozen assorted Hockey cards to send my way.  With a `70-71 Topps Yvan Cournoyer, a `75-76 Denis Potvin, an `81-82 Topps Mike Bossy, an `81-82 OPC Kevin Lowe, an `82-83 OPC Jari Kuri and  an `84-85 Ray Bourque.  Very nice little surprise package Kit, I�ll get some things out to you that you can use, Thanks for passing these along.

Add about (5) eBay lots and I have my work cut out for me.  I will be doing my best as time permits to get some items out to these and many others who deserve a package from me.  As always I appreciate your patience with me and want to once again thank all of those who have contributed to my collection this week   BE WELL!!!!

Another outstanding pack from Linda covering various generations. Milt Bolling from the 54 Bowman set, and Don Muller from the 54 Topps set.  A 71 high number, a 58, 64 and 72.

Plenty of cardboard flying so let me thank:

Jeff DeLott (O Mighty Mentor Man) who never really had to counsel me on any issues but has always just lead by example.  Today's example of kindness is a SCP from the `50 Bowman set - Al Evans.  Just a simple single card from my want list in a random act of kindness - Thanks Jeff.

Don Rice takes aim at my monthly posting and helps with (2) back variations for my T-218 set.  Andrew Glarner and Jem Driscoll now are added to the Master set quest as I slowly whittle away at the insane quest of attaining all the back variations of this set.  Thanks Don.

T.J. Valacak connects with some OPC Hockey cards.  (2) from `72-73 (Backstrom & Norris Trophy) and (2) from `75-76 (Lever & Giroux) are added to the growing Hockey collection with my compliments to Tom!!!  I got to thank T.J. for a trio of animal cards that I am able to pass on to my daughter Kendall - a very nicely added touch my man.

I got classes this weekend and my daughter's dance recital on Sunday - I will be pressed to get material out but I'll find some time somewhere.  Thanks to all these fine traders for their generosity - BE WELL!!!

Andy Cook hosted a DC area get-together today.  As always, I left with somegreat

Host Andy decided that I should be the obc blanket guy...(is anyone workingon
the b18's?)...so he covers me with 7 of those.  Grabbed a few other cards
from him too including a few 58's for a Senators team set I'm about to start,
a few 65 embossed, 70 posters, 60 fleers, and a 55 Bowman high number.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dan Austin for the second time.  Dan tells meI've
changed since the first time we met at Steve's a few years ago.  He didn't
say changed for the better, but that's what I assume he meant.  Anyhow,
as some of you know, Dan is the man in OPC world, and he starts me on the
78, 74 and 73 OPC sets...over 400 hits in all.  Also managed to snag a 53BC
Lemon, and a few 61 fleers as well.  Thanks Dan!

Finally, thanks to Steve (don't call him Steverino) Rittenberg for picking me
up...putting up with my chatter on the way there and back...and cards too...51
Bowmans including some highs, a 64 Koufax coin, a T213-2 Marquard, and
a whole mess of 75 OPC...almost 300.  Thanks Steve!
