Spike sent along all but card #5 (of course) in the 1978 SSPC Yankees set. These were issued inside a magazine or Yankees yearbook, 9 to a page, 3 pages. They issued them for many teams, and I have about 1/2 the teams now. Spike was not surprised when he offered these on teh waiver wire, that I had told him they were on my Rick Johnson sent along some oddball UV cards, a great 1976 Topps miscut back that contained 1/2 of a Yount back (I get such a kick out of miscut, blank and wrong back cards)(why are they referred to as wrong backs and not wrong fronts???). The key to the package were the final few 1974 Parker Bros FB set. I think the entire set was sent via members of trading groups. I did not buy a single card! Chuck Paris sends along a 1922 E120 Kelleher, my 4th in the set. Check and I had the same thought wondering if this was the grandfather of former Tiger Mick Kelleher. John Storman sends along a 1949 Bowman high number. I have had an extremely tough time with this set. This hit finally brings the needs for the base set to 46, 1 less than I need for the 1952 Topps set. Based upon prices and sizes of the sets you would think that I would be a lot closer on the 49 Bowmans than 52 Topps, but this just has not happened. If anyone ever gets a good buy on some high numbers and wants to split the lot, please let me know(I also think Jim Moleta is on the lookout for these). Mac Wubben sends along a T205 Schulte, bringing me to 44 in the set. Looks like I will fall short of getting to my 2007 goal of having 50 in this set, but this gets me closer. So 5 packages causing 1 vintage set done, 1 vintage set added to the need 5 or less list, an E card, a T card and a hit to a high priority tough set! One of the best weeks of OBC hits in a long time. I remember vividly watching these games in school on the B&W televisions that were rolled into the classrooms in those days (I was GREAT to have a lots of male teachers in the 8th grade). Of course now we just expect our school aged fans to stay up well past their school night bed times to watch the Fall classic - but that's info for another server. Jimbo also included a "space-filling" Teddy Ball-game Salutations Exhibit counterfeit card. Jimbo has a sharp eye for these because it sure would have fooled me. Michael Mroz sent me a beautiful pair of 1975 Topps Mini's, World Series Game 3 with the classic Rollie Fingers delivery photo, and a Brewers team card. These cards are in absolutely beautiful condition, and my want list for the "1975 Mutants" as I call them is down to about a couple dozen of the hard ones to find - not so many superstars, not so many commons, just a lot of minor stars and special cards. This is the set that OBC built, as every one of the cards was received from OBC members and I really appreciate the additions. Thanks Mike! Geno Wagner sends a beautiful pair of R773 Goudey Indians (American Indians, not Cleveland Indians) from the late 1940's that are so gorgeous I want to share them with you. The first is a surgically repaired Red Cloud card, evidently torn in half and put back together with Scotch tape, of one of the most outstandingly beautiful of the Indian cards in the series, especially the full headdress: http://www.deliafamily.net/jpg/RedCloud.jpg The second card Geno sent is a very popular card from the R773 Goudey set, Colonel Jim Bowie, which had the "Indian Chewing Gum" strip on the front cut off, leaving just the beautiful and violent fighting scene (it's easy to see what Col. Bowie's weapon of choice is!) http://www.deliafamily.net/jpg/Bowie.jpg This practice of amputating the card to keep only the picture reminds me of what I used to do to Topps 1968 All Stars cards, cutting off about 1/3 of the card with the burlap background and the Sporting News banner. The result was a beautiful, simple, unusual-looking card about the size of a 1948 Bowman like so: http://www.deliafamily.net/jpg/Robby.jpg I liked that "modified" design so much I made two "complete sets" out of the Topps All Stars, and would consider doing the same to the Goudey Indians if they weren't so valuable. As usual, Geno's envelope is more than impressive. My wife handed me his letter and said with genuine amazement that I was getting a letter from a Lieutenant Colonel! I told her it's only Geno and that he's a dead ringer for Donny Osmond which cooled her down. Thanks very much, Geno, they brought back a lot of great memories. You know, sometimes I wonder about the Christmas season and what has happened to the things I remember as a kid way back when. With all the hustle and bustle, cooking and running around, it kind of gets lost. Then you become a part of OBC (for me some 15 years) and it brings back everything that Christmas is all about. We share stories, our lives, our ups and downs, new additions, the passing of others and the opportunity to meet some of the coolest people at the National, where we all seem to have a common goal-- let's knock something off someone else's list! With those things in mind, I finally got to find out who my OBC Santa was,,, in the form of Earl Kilbourn (known to all of us as EEK who lives in the house of Maxwell). I received a VERY cool MLB calendar of past and present ballparks. I love this! I had last year's and would look thru the pictures. This years was led off with Fenway Park! Amazing how the more things change the more they stay the same. You see the old parks, see some from the cookie cutter era, and now how many have returned to the "old" days. And along for the ride were some needed cards off my short list including some studio, I believe '94 set killers and 2 great 58s. Thanks LOADS Earl, Santa would be very proud! I tend to reflect on our group at this time of year, and to think some of us have been here this many years is mind boggling. For example, I have seen Kent turn gray (yeah I know, you have seen me lose my hair!). I also think back on the members we have lost over time... ZZ Bob (one of my first card influences when he was Pres of TIC and I was VP), Kevin Lohse (one of the great moments in OBC history), Rick Redpath (a tribute what OBC people are all about), David Kolenda (who opened his home to a bunch of strangers, even if his sliding screen door didn't open), and my buddy John Ball (who I brought in here over 75 minis and we'd reminisce every year about Bunning's no hitter on Father's Day against the Mets). You guys (and gals!) always restore my faith in the spirit of Christmas. The giving and outpouring of friendships I have made here will last me a lifetime. I have always been proud to be in this group and glad that I had a chance to help shape some of its history. Some of you new guys have already found out how amazing a bunch of people we have here. Just wait until you get to a National and watch Steve lug boxes and boxes of cards! I wish you all the best in health and happiness in the coming year. The best part about OBC Christmas is you can send anything, not just wantlist stuff. My list is ridiculous anyway, but my reading list is ever-expanding. Bob sent along a couple of great books on the Negro Leagues, Bob Gibson, and a front office guy named Donald Davidson that looks pretty entertaining! My OBC Christmas envelope arrived way back in November and amazingly I managed not to misplace it. There was no name inside or outside the envelope but with a Mobile AL postmark and the contents inside I'm pretty sure it was Brock Hattox who was disguised as Santa this year. The contents included two uncut Hostess panels, one from 1978 and one from 1979, which resulted in 5 hits to my lists including Robin Yount. I was immediately faced with the dilemma of cutting them apart or keeping them uncut. Since they look cool the way they are I decided to leave them as is andwill add them to the beginning of the binder. Now I just have to refrain from adding uncut panels to my wantlist. Also included was a rare 1952 hit of Ed Erautt. It's rare because there's 4 corners, no paper loss and no writing on the card like many of my others.Ed's 15 career victories ranks him second all time in wins by a person with the initials E.E. behind only Eric Erickson's 34. The big gift I got from my wife was a laptop computer so now it should be easier for me to check wantlists, something I didn't do too well in 2007 mainly due to the PC being monopolized by my kids. Hope Santa was good to everybody out there and thanks to Brock for the thoughtful hits to the list. -Bob Reed The best games are on Xbox 360. I have eagerly anticipated this since receiving my OBC Santa gift from Florida. It was a bit heavy for an SCP or some other old cardboard so I knew I was in for some special treat. I was certainly not disappointed as my OBC Santa, Larry "Guru" Tipton sent me a book, "Baseball Parks Yesterday and Today". A terrific compendium of the history in words and stunning photos of all the major parks in baseball, major and minor leagues. I think the only one left out is the "Field of Dreams". Guru also included a very nice note which was attached to a vintage bookmark as he puts it. A 1962 Post card of Gino Cimoli (another great baseball name) that he personally cut from the cereal box as a young collector. I will certainly enjoy reading this for a long time to help pass the lonely hours until my family arrives. Guru also indicated he will be visiting Vegas in March for the NASCAR stop here. Can't wait for that moment, see you then Guru. I have also been very remiss in not expressing timely thanks to some other OBCers over the past few months for other gifts. I've been working double shifts and have just terminated my employment to get my health back and recuperate somewhat before finding another line of work. So my deepest apologies to the following fine givers. Bill Ashton for a large group cards which I will mention on another server, thanks so much Bill. Rick Lyons for two separate mailings. The first being an Hank Aaron ruboff or tattoo that I have yet to identify with my newly purchased Beckett. And a 1974 OPC #1 Hank Aaron HR King card. Always appreciate the Hank items and Rick can you please clue me in on the first Hank item? Steve Rittenberg for an item which will be mentioned in another thanks and for another Hank OPC card. Thanks old friend. Mac Wubben for a 1968 OPC #110 Hank Aaron card. Thank you Mac for getting another toughie off the list. Thanks to Mike Rich for some additional Hank items but more importantly for being a dear, dear friend in another rough period in my life. Due to a small remodeling of the house, my OBC package was placed somewhere else so that I wouldn't forget it. Well, after the tree went up and all the presents were loaded underneath and subsequently ripped open, my OBC package remained right where it was undisturbed. I was getting ready for a drive to NH to visit my parents for lunch followed by a trip to my girlfriend's folks for dinner, when I heard from downstairs, "You know, you've got one more package to open." "Really? What's that?" I replied, figuring I had already gotten way more than I deserve from Santa. "It's your OBC gift." "Oh yeah! I forgot about that!" figuring I had placed it out of the way to open FIRST, not LAST. Well, at least putting it aside saved some of the temptation and taunting that it's early arrival would've caused in a more conspicuous spot. Sal delivers a SCP hit to the 1955 Red Man set in the form of Henry Thompson, which cuts that list in half and erases an entire line from my list. 'Sal'ta Claus also added a half dozen 1956 Topps cards to get that list down to about the last three dozen (which unfortunately about 2/3rd's of which are HOF'ers). Here's a quote from the article: "It was Sibby who signaled the bullpen for the southpaw Youngberry in the climactic scene, only to have Roy Hobbs homer into the light tower to win the pennant for the Knights! After years of reliving his managerial error on TV reruns of the movie, Sibbi jokingly vowed 'if they ever make Natural 2, I'm going out there again, but this time, on the first pitch, Redford's going right down on his ass!'" Gotta love Sibby. Thanks to DAN AUSTIN for hosting a swap at his house yesterday.
Attendees included Peter Mead, Andy Cook, and Andy's Dad. Peter hit
me with some football and a pack fresh 1968 Topps Poster of Jim
Lonborg. I had never seen these posters before. Pretty neat stuff.
I don't want to ruin it by tacking it to the wall so I've folded it
up so that Lonborg is still visible and placed it inside a one-pocket
sheet. If anyone has a better idea, let me know. Andy hit me with
some Beatles Diary cards, football, and some cards to be listed on the
waiver wire. Our host, Dan, knocked off one of the last 14 cards I
need for a 1965 Topps Football set with a Paul (related to Derek?)
Lowe card. Dan also let me help myself to some football, modern
issues (including a Piersall from his binder) and as much pizza as I
could eat.

Thanks guys. OBC swaps with you guys will one of the things I miss
the most if I end up moving.

My thanks are late, but my thankfulness is great! My OBC Santa this year was Linda Fitak. Linda sent her patented variety of goodies which included tons of research material, but this time I can actually read most of it, as most of them are British tobacco cards. There are a few in German, and even one in French. You're letting me off light this time, Linda!

Also included were some Target Dodgers (for those uninformed souls, Target released a monster set in 1990 depicting anyone who'd ever worn a Dodger uni up to that point), a stack of UV Dodger greats, a 1978 TCMA Kirby Higby, 1979 TCMAs of Dan Bankhead and Billy Cox and hits to my '65, '66 and '68 sets.

Thanks Linda - I always love what you send. Much appreciated!

Okay, I guess once you hit 50 you're allowed to be forgetful. With a few
days off for Christmas I was going through my piles and found an envelope
from Bill Ashton containing a great 1954 Bowman of Henry Thompson. I truly
can't remember if I thanked him or not, so rather than be an ingrate, I
figured i'd risk jokes about senility and thank him (either again, or for
the first time). The envelope has a postmark of Nov 20th (yes,

Woodstock were two 1956 White backs--Jack Harshman and Harry Chiti. The
Harry Chiti card is interesting as it has a line that I wish were still

idiot. It says" Harry returned to the Cubs after 2 years in the army". Can
you imagine if today's players had to give up 2 years to serve their country?

Hello All,

As I'm getting ready to ring in the New Year with Dick Clark & Friends the entire event is put on hold as my lovely wife hands me todays "mailbag". Yes my fellow traders have sent 2007 out with a bang with some fabulous old (and new) cardboard. So thanks to:
Chef Anthony Arbeeny sends a `66 Topps Football card of Frank Jackson, a `77 Renata Glasso Checklist, a `71 Fleer Globe-trotters card and what appears to be a `95-96 Team set of the International Hockey Leauge's Cleveland Lumberjacks. What a nice group of "old" & "new" - Thanks Ant-man!!!
Brian Betza who connects with a `48 Bowman Football card of Jack Wiley and (4) assorted Tiger cards for my Tiger Team Sets (`61 Gernert, `66 Fisher/Hiller RC, `70 Niekro & Robertson). The Tiger sets are coming along well and I might just get some of the `70's sets listed shortly as I getting close to organizing these dupe boxes soon. Thanks so much for these hits Brian!!!
Kevin Martens sends out the last (3) common cards for the `07 Upper Deck Goudey set leaving me with just a bunch of short prints to go. Thanks old friend, you have always helped me with the "newer sets"!!!
Don Rice ships out (4) `92 Conlan cards with Ruth, Gehringer, Appling & Terry. Great "old-time" players from that noble hall in Copperstown - Thanks Don!!!
T.J. Valacek finds some OPC Hockey cards to send me so added to my collection are (3) from `69-70 (Smith, Baun & Connelly), (2) from `70-71 (Hextall & Marcotte) and a SCP from `71-72 (Watson). Along for the ride was T.J.'s Holiday pic of himself, his wife Traci and son Anton, Great stuff T.J.!!!
So there you have it - What an end to the old year - I am looking forward to the coming of 2008 - To all in VCT land - BE WELL!!!
