Bob sends over an SCP to my newly listed 53 set and includes a note saying that I accepted "any condition". Well, Bob has sent me a card that definitely belongs in the Tipton HOF. Card number 158 ( I will have to check) of Johnny Logan. On the front of the card, I can make out the team emblem near the nanme, teh "O" and "H" in his name, and most of the "B" on his hat. Other than that, this card has been skinned. It is truly a 1/1. Perhaps the most appealing aspect of the card is that it allows me to trim another number off my list. Thank you Bob! Also, thanks out to JAMES MOLETA. James sends over a nice 4-pack. First is a Twins team card from the 74 checkilst set. This is the last card needed for that small subset, so that makes James a hero! Also, Jim includes three hits to my dwindling 59 set. Two of the hits, Bill Hall and Brooks Lawrence, are actually Gremlins. I was a little embarrassed send out another Gremlin wantlist, so I quietly added the cards to my 59 wantlist. I must say that although I have had a great time putting my sets into binders, it is a little depressing coming across the Gremlins. The show was the usual, I found some hockey stuff I needed, a few Hostess cards, assorted Tigers, a `61 Golden Press Ty Cobb (that one has been on the list for about 5 years) and some UV stuff I started collecting recently. I also added a bunch to the dupe box (about 3-400 cards) from Mike Sandles table which will help as I continue to spread some of this cardboard about. We concluded our business and took over a couple of tables at Eastside Mario's and chowed down, watched Football, talked of cards, and sports and life in general. Now, it's obvious that I'm keeping score and not just the one Mark gave me. The reason is that as I mentioned in the Ramble that most of you deleted after reading the From: and Subject: lines, I forgot my wantlists when I went to the Redford show Sunday. Therefore I had to rely on memory when pulling cards to purchase. Of the twenty three 58's I pulled, I needed exactly 2. Of the twelve 72's I bought, I needed only For some of you, my bad memory could be your good fortune, or not! The good news is, I ended up with dupes for the dupes box to eventually pass on to OBCers. The bad news is that many of the cards I bought were considerable upgrades from what was already in the binder. That means of course that many of the cards I'll be looking to sending out in the next week or so will not be for the condition sensitive. I'll be checking for the "any condition" statements on the 58 and 72 want lists I peruse. Feel free to direct me to your wantlist if you are working on those sets and are not squeamish. MARK TALBOT starts things off with ten T-218s, nice additions to the only tobacco set I'm really working on. As a master of efficiency, Mark hit my want list with every single card, forgoing dupes. That's a lotta bang for the buck. He also threw in a few OBC bonus cards, including Isaly Discs of both Fisk and Yaz, effectively completing that set in record time (with help on the way from Ant Arbeeney). Thanks Mark! Next up was PETER MEAD, who did an end around by sending some Jiffy Pop discs to me via Marshall West, who kindly forwarded them. Peter's brain fart caused him to send the cards from Maryland to Utah to NY... quite a trip. But all arrived safely and in good shape. Thanks Peter! In the mean time, Good Samaritan MARSHAL WEST sweetened the Mead package with six vintage Zorro non-sport cards that are in better shape than most of the cards in my set. Thanks Marshall! Finally, BAMA sends cards from some pre-war sets that I am dipping my toes into, but not deeply enough to yet warrant a WL. Bama sends winnings from 1949 MP&Co, as well as 1936 Nat'l Chicle Fine Pens. OBC Bonus cards included with the lots were a 1943 MP&Co., as well as a cut 1929 exhibit. All great stuff. Thanks Bama! Hi all... Its been a LONG time since I posted anything or was active in this group, so you can imagine my surprise when Mr. Talbot FLAMED me earlier this week. Mark sent a chilly six pack of '75-76 Topps Hockey cards with the Atlanta Flames team card on top and Flames Right Winger Larry Romanchych a few cards down. Boston legend Rick Middleton's rookie card was enclosed, with him suited as a Ranger (man, that looks weird!). Other highlights included a great shot of Sabres HOFer Gilbert Perreault rushing in for a shot on Canadien's HOFer Ken Dryden in the 1974-75 Stanley Cup semi-finals, a card of Perrault's teammate, Danny Gare, and a team card of the Vancouver Canucks. All of the cards look pack-fresh... did you eat the gum, Mark? More important and touching than the awesome ice stars was the nice birthday note that Mark wrote and the fact that he literally hunted me down to get the cards and birthday wishes to me. It seems my address in the OBC directory is a bit out of date... as in almost 2 years! To update the records, my address is: Jim Wiehe 2215 North 164th Street Omaha, NE 68116 402-778-5724 (home); (402) 690-2413 (cell) Everything is going great here and I would try to catch everyone up to date but that *definitely* would belong in the rambles section! Take care and a HUGE thank you to Mark! ================= To: OBC-Thanks@yahoogroups.com Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2007 23:37:37 -0700 From: marcpeter@juno.com Subject: Auction Arrival BOB BANNON - sends along a really BEAUTIFUL 1921 Exhibit card of Jimmy Johnston.
