The most recent additions to my collection both occoured on the same day - one via the USPS and the other in an OBC Live event. Sal Domino was in town last week to take in a Red Sox game with me against his other favorite team - the New York Mets. Before the game, I helped guide him through the streets of Boston and took in a Duck Boat tour, which was a lot better than I expected... and a first for me, since I hadn't done any 'touristy' things in my home city in ages. Before our daylong adventure began, I got to show off a little of my collection and added a couple 1965 Topps cards to the binder that Sal handed to me. As always, it was a blast hanging out with him and it's too bad he couldn't have taken more time off from work. As for the game, the home team continued their winning streak and their domination of the NL. (Thanks also to Bob Donadson for getting a lead on some tickets.) It was also a great way to spend my day off from work (which was the last day off I've had before today). THANKS SAL!! Between the Duck Boat tour and the game, Sal dropped me off at home to get in a quick nap (since I had worked the night before) and get himself some time to rest up before the game. When he dropped me off, I immediately noticed a large puffy sticking out of the mailbox. Mark Talbot located a slew of hits to my varios 60's FB lists. This ended up cutting into my nap time as I crossed off numbers and pocketed the cards into their respective binders, but I wouldn't have gotten ANY sleep without opening up the envelope to find out what was inside. A lot of the cards finished off binder pages too - always a good thing not having any empty spaces on the page. THANKS MARK!! Also, on the eBay front: the list is now down to ONE card for my 1948-49 Leaf set. I landed a PSA1 George Kell that OBC friendly dealer Kevin Savage had up for auction. Now all that stands between me and a full binder is the dreaded Hank Sauer SP RC. When I called up Kevin to give him my CC info, I was told that he has one coming up on eBay soon (a PSA1 MC with some paper loss). It'd be SOOO nice to finally put that set to bed. Wish me luck. Count me among the many benefactors of the benevolent one, KENT GOTO. In my opinion Clark Kent Goto would be more appropriate as he sends me a very special Single Card Pleasure in the form of a 61 Post, Paul Foytack. Not only does Kent's generosity afford me the rare opportunity to check a Postie off my wantlist, but this particular card holds a special meaning for me. Too many summer days ago, my best friend called me to tell me that he had a Post cereal box with Paul Foytack on the back that he was saving for me. The next day I went over to his house with great anticipation of another Postie to add to my Tiger collection. (You guessed it, this is going to turn very sad, very quick.) His mother, and up until then, my favorite mother outside of my own, threw the box in the trash. I mentioned that this was many summer days ago. So many in fact that it was 'back in the day" when we did not put our trash to the road for pick up. Every house had a burn barrel out back for burning trash. My Foytack went up a smoke stack. That trauma has lingered in boyhood memories for the past 45 years. But alas, thanks to our very own mass mailing Mr. Goto, I am healed. Thank You seems so insufficient, but it will have to do for now! Thanks Kent! That sums up my Saturday. We started out by heading over to U.S.
Cellular Field to see my Sox take on my wife's Sox. During bp,
Jonathon Paplebon gave my niece (I brainwashed her before birth) a
ball. She was more than thrilled. It was a painful off season for her
as her favorite ballplayer, Damon, signed with the Yanks. Her second
favorite, Bronson Arroyo, was traded for a back-up outfielder. I
still don't get that one. Anyway, she had a huge "who's your papi?"
sign with her. The ball from Pap made her day. The BoSox win made
mine. I get a dinner of choice from my lovely wife. Enough with my
babbling, on with the thanks.

Saturday thanks out to JEFF DELOTT who sends a pair of 58's my way.
Thanks Jeff. It was a welcomed surprise when I got home from the
game. Have a great weekend and be safe!

Well I got some cards from someone I have been getting cards from since
sometime in early 1990 - I will always remember the box of 1962's that
sent me on my way to finishing that set around 1990 - and also the 1985
Topps set that was sent for my nephew...

BOB NEILL - sends along a couple from the 1953 Johnston Cookies set for
me - Dave Jolly and Max Surkont - lovely cards. That DOUBLES my count in
that set - 4 and 21 to go...! Thanks Bob for the cards and the thoughts.
I hope to find a gem for you soon...!

Happy day to all of you and Congrats to ITALY!

Subject: RMCCC

What is the RMCCC, you ask ???
Well, of course, it's the Rocky Mountain Card Collectors Convergence.

Now, before we discuss such an event, please, allow me to give you some visions
and set the table. Number one, the setting. Colorado. This time of year,
you can tune into many a newscast on your television and witness footage
of any number of large fires that might be burning out here in the great
west, Colorado, included. Simply put, it's hot and dry here. VERY hot and
dry. Two, on any given Sunday morning, yes, even here, your local IHOP,Denny's,
Perkin's and/or Village Inn or other breakfast joint, might be jammed,
but NOT the freeways. Not here.

Well, table set. This morning we had both. Due to a very serious accidenton
the freeway, (...and thank GOODNESS it wasn't me for a change.) along with
our chosen meeting joint, traffic was jammed and most of us needed detours
and lost and found highway guides just to get us there. ...and by the time
we did arrive and climb out of our cars, we were greeted with a cold and
nasty, misty rain.

Never fear, we were all inside and once the packed restaurant staff finallyrealized
that first four, then six, then eight, then twelve of us were going
to be sitting down, they hustled up some tables for us and treated us right.
Very right. Oh, and did I mention how BIG it is out here in the west?
Well you never mind that, because big Colorado or no, it is nothing compared
to the big hospitality seven great traders and collectors all displayed
toward one another and our families. Bill Blakslee and his, Jim Goodreidand
his, Ray Luurs, Josh Martinez, Guy Mitchell, Jim Silva and me and mine,
all shared cards, stories, food, drink and fun.

It was nice. Very nice, guys, thank you very much. I personally can't wait
to do it again. ...and, if any of you ever get the opportunity to meet with
and spend some time with any of them, my experience today tells me you could
easily do a lot worse.

Alas, all good things must end, and only all too soon after we had just met,
it was time to pack up and leave again. Unfortunately for us, Guy and Jim
G and his, had other obligations for the afternoon and couldn't join up with
us for the game, however, all was not lost because when you lose some, you
usually gain some, and that is just what we did when Josh was able to be
joined by his, the amazing Denise.

Why amazing, you ask? Well, let me tell you. This brings us back to that hot
and dry thing that we are so used to here in Colorado. However, when you
have the cold, high altitude air at twelve and fourteen thousand feet up,
pushing down into the scalding, dry, 90+ degree heat of the prairie plains,
well, you get the perfect mix to make storms. Phooey, who cares? Not us
here, because we just sort of push those storms on, farther east into theplains
and the Midwest, where you folks out there get the wet soakers and tornado
alley stuff that we send you. Most all we ever see here are "spit showers."
A few bolts of lightning, (To start more fires, of course!) a couple
of bags of wind, (Well yes, to fan those fire flames, and to send on out
toward tornado alley.) and a few drops of rain that most of the time, dry
up even before they hit the ground because it's so dry and the humidity is
so low. If we ever do see true rainfall here, again, those storm clouds are
always pushed on to the east and forty minutes later Colorado is left with
sunshine, rainbows, and sometimes even lollipops for the kids. Right back
to the hot and dry.

Not today. In fact, when we arrived at the stadium, I was expecting to seejust
that, sunshine and rainbows, but instead we were greeted with that same,
nasty gray sky, cold breeze, and a wet, rainy mist. ...and it didn't go
away. But neither did these amazing folks in Colorado. That's why I said
amazing. Gray skies, soggy peanuts, and wet clothing couldn't dampen ourspirits.
In fact, after drinking half of our beverages and putting them down
in the cupholders to clap and jeer, we then looked down only to see we had
been blessed by the rain which had nearly filled those cups back up again.
 Woo hoo, free beer !!!

Er, ah, well, all right, maebea I had one too many, but when the home team loses,
your beer is half watered down and you're soaked to the bone and shivering
and freezing, yet everyone is still smiling, shaking hands and asking
each other to do it again, you just KNOW you're among good friends.

So, if you ever see another "RMCCC" posting about some sort of an event outhere
again, ya'll better get your tails in here, read about it, and get out
here, because if you do, you're going to find yourself in the midst of some
BIG hospitality and BIG fun.

Colorado. It's amazingly BIG out here !!!!! Thanks folks!

p.s. Oh, and there is a Walker guarantee going around that we can arrange at
least ten years of Rockies game meets like this and you'll NEVER get rained
on like we did today. I guarantee it!!!

Hi gang,
Mike's note to the other server has me feeling a little guilty about
not getting this out sooner, so I'd better type up a note before I start
feeling really bad. The most recent additions to my collection both
occoured on the same day - one via the USPS and the other in an OBC Live
event. Sal Domino was in town last week to take in a Red Sox game with
me against his other favorite team - the New York Mets. Before the game,
I helped guide him through the streets of Boston and took in a Duck Boat
tour, which was a lot better than I expected... and a first for me,
since I hadn't done any 'touristy' things in my home city in ages.
Before our daylong adventure began, I got to show off a little of my
collection and added a couple 1965 Topps cards to the binder that Sal
handed to me. As always, it was a blast hanging out with him and it's
too bad he couldn't have taken more time off from work. As for the game,
the home team continued their winning streak and their dominatio! n of
the NL. (Thanks also to Bob Donadson for getting a lead on some
tickets.) It was also a great way to spend my day off from work (which
was the last day off I've had before today). THANKS SAL!!
Between the Duck Boat tour and the game, Sal dropped me off at home to
get in a quick nap (since I had worked the night before) and get himself
some time to rest up before the game. When he dropped me off, I
immediately noticed a large puffy sticking out of the mailbox. Mark
Talbot located a slew of hits to my varios 60's FB lists. This ended up
cutting into my nap time as I crossed off numbers and pocketed the cards
into their respective binders, but I wouldn't have gotten ANY sleep
without opening up the envelope to find out what was inside. A lot of
the cards finished off binder pages too - always a good thing not having
any empty spaces on the page. THANKS MARK!!
Also, on the eBay front: the list is now down to ONE card for my
1948-49 Leaf set. I landed a PSA1 George Kell that OBC friendly dealer
Kevin Savage had up for auction. Now all that stands between me and a
full binder is the dreaded Hank Sauer SP RC. When I called up Kevin to
give him my CC info, I was told that he has one coming up on eBay soon
(a PSA1 MC with some paper loss). It'd be SOOO nice to finally put that
set to bed. Wish me luck. TAYL,

Ken M

Two things to be thankful for today, Monday, July 10th. The Mariners finally

yesterday's "Turn Back the Clock" game that I attended, after dropping the

Secondly, just got off the phone with my original OBC mentor, Lorin Anderson.
Lorin sent me six absolutely great hits to my '50 Bowman list after I posted

I received two envelopes from Colorado today! RMCC in action? First, JIM SILVA hits me with a nice 71 Bobby Bonds. I'll always remember an interview they did a few years ago with Bobby, they were asking him to compare his baseball skills vs. his sons blossoming skills. Basically, he said that Barry was a better power hitter, and a better hitter for average, then they asked him who was faster? Bobby just laughed and said that Barry was fast, but I was world class! Guess that's why he batted lead-off? Thanks for the card and the memory, Jim.

Also in the mail box today was the second package from the mile high state. This one from WALKER GUTHRIE, who sends to Pennsylvania a SCP from 1970 and a DCP from '68, including Bucco Gene Alley. Also, along for the ride, an unmentionable with a picture of a Mickey Mantle Louisville Slugger. Never saw that before. Thanks Walker!

It's great to be active again. Thanks OBC!!!!

After a tornado struck about 30 minutes from work tonight, I came home to
discover some welcome cardboard. First, thanks to RICHARD KIMBALL for a
Reds-themed package (bear with me on some of these, it's a stretch): a 77 Kellogg's of
Reds CF Cesar Geronimo, plus 5 1975 Topps minis: my HOM inductee, Reds SS Dave
Concepcion, Jose Cardenal (spent some time as a Reds coach), Frank Tanana
(rhymes with banana, when there's a rain delay Reds announcers Marty & Steve take
listener calls on what they call the Banana Phone), Doc Medich (OK, I've got
nothing here), and Al Oliver (uh, born in Portsmouth Ohio, which is on the
Ohio River, which flows right past Great American Ballpark, home of the Reds).
Thanks for the terrific cards, Fuge!

Next, thanks to MIKE RICH for knocking off one of the final cards I need (all
checklists) for the 73 Topps football set, and also a half-dozen chips -
ice-chips, that is - to my 71-72 Topps hockey list. Thanks a bunch, Mike!

Tom Housley

Oh yeah - try working at a TV station & answering phone calls from VERY irate
viewers who are quite cheesed off that we interrupted the last 30 minutes of
Big Brother for tornado warnings. 4 out of every 5 calls I (stupidly) answered
were just downright nasty & rude. I tell ya, these people take their reality
TV waaaay too seriously. Me, I prefer to take cardboard too seriously - it's a
lot more fun.

A very cool package arrived this week from Linda Fitak. It included a beautiful postcard drawing of Alice Faye done by Linda. Linda...I have another one of your post card illustrations depicting a different famous actress, I believe, but I cannot find it. I think it is in one of the many boxes I haven't unpacked since we moved to Vermont (we are currently renting a small house and we don't have the room to put out all our stuff yet ;) Anyway...I just wanted to say that I really like your postcard drawings and will put this one and the other one, once I find it, in a binder. You are quite talented and your postcards make great collectibles!

Also in Linda's package were many cool non-sports cards including (2) 1964 Topps Beatles cards off my list, #148 from the B/W set (John Lennon), and #21 from the Hard Days Night set. Also a Marilyn Monroe card (beautiful) and a 1961 Leaf "Spook Stories" card showing what looks like "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" (a classic movie!!).

In addition, Linda sent me some vintage baseball including a 58T, a 60T, (2) 61T's (inc. J.Callison), and (3) 62T's!

And...Linda also included an "Origins of Baseball " Kid Nichols and "Conlon" Max Bishop.

Very cool package, and much appreciated Linda!!

Thank you OBC!

I finally got around to reading Al Rosen's book, True Mint, that he gave

The accompanying picture showed some poor to good cards that could
easily found a home in OBC collections. Basically, I guess he figures if

Thanks to T.J., BOB, MIKE, JIM, RICHARD, TERRY, FATHER PAT and EARL!

The past few weeks, I've been rather busy, which is to be expected
with any youth minister in the summertime. That's when the kids are
most available... But it's especially heating up this week, for our
Vacation Bible School! We're having a great time, but with my wife
being the director, it's pretty much been 12-14 hour days for the
last couple weeks straight.

A couple of cool OBC-related things have happened to me during this
busy time. I got back late last Saturday from a church trip to the
Braves game (they won - Francoeur homered and Smoltz had TWO hits of
his own), and when I opened the mailbox, a package literally fell out
at me. It was the first time that had happened to me, although I've
heard that phrase used several times. Then on Monday, after the
first night of VBS: there were FOUR more packages waiting for me!
Then I got ANOTHER on Tuesday, and another TODAY! Thanks to all the
folks who have made this a great week in cards, even though I haven't
really had the time to fully appreciate them yet... those days will

First, thanks to T.J. VALACAK, who sent me a stack of oldies before
all this recent rush (please accept my apologies for the lateness of
this thanks posting). They included six 59s, six 60s, a 61, two 62s,
two 63s, a 64, three 66s, and two 68s! Included in that bunch were
three Braves, including a favorite of mine, Joe Adcock! Thanks, T.J.!

BOB NEILL sent an amazing forty-seven cards from 1966 Topps!
Included were five Braves, whose pictures were all taken before their
first season in Atlanta had begun. So those pages in my binder,
which hold the 66s, are what I call the no-cap Braves. Very much
appreciated, Bob!

MIKE RICH sent a 1979 Steve Carlton, taking that set down to only
five! Also included was an autographed #3 of the legendary Motor
Mouth Mike Rich himself! Sweet, thanks Mike!

JIM SILVA sends two 60s, a 73, and a 75 mini of Joe Niekro! Thanks,
EL FUEGO!

RICHARD KIMBALL sends over a 70, 71, 72, and two 74s, including two
Braves, and a famous "floating faces" Cubs team card. Thanks, FUGE!

TERRY DIETRICK found some beauties for me. A couple of 60s, a 62, a
75, and seven 73s: they include Rollie Fingers, who is on TV as I
compose this! And there's also two cards of two more favorites of
mine, Frank Robinson and Harmon Killebrew! Thanks, Terry!

FATHER PAT went old-school on me, and sent a 55 and five 56s! Great
additions to my slowly growing 50's collection, thanks Father!

And last but not least, EARL KILBOURN sent a hefty stack of some
cards in a very recent set, which will be detailed on the UV server
in a few minutes. Thanks EEK!

THANKS AGAIN, EVERYONE. THANKS, OBC.

Received 3 packages this week from OBC. Also got 2 other sports
packages in the mail this week. From OBC, Ant Arbeeny sends along a
type card in the form of a 1974 Parker Brothers FB card. Love those
type cards.
I already had a type card from the 1971 Bazooka FB set. Ed Schott
let me claim 2 off the waiver wire, including some guy named NAMATH!
So now I am officially collecting the set and have over 8% of the
set. Ed also had a hit for my 1965 Topps Transfers set. This is the
ugliest postwar set ever issued in my opinion, but I am getting
closer to finishing it.
I had put in a waiver claim of a 1976 Star Market Red Sox from bob
Donaldson for a type issue. Bob sends over 4 of them, including Jim
Rice and Luis Tiant. Another set to add to the wantlist. Along for
teh ride were a pair of HOF Programs, 3 1940s BB Magazines (sans
covers) and 4 1978 All Star Gallery Magazines (Angels, Dodgers,
Rangers & White Sox). These have 27 SSPC cards attached inside.
These are FANTASTIC. Although I had seen the magazines before, I had
never noticed the SSPC cards. So yet ANOTHER set started this week.
So I received a type card and will be adding 3 more sets to my
lists. I know many were concerned that my lists did not have enough
sets on them, but this should allay that angst.
Thanks so much guys.

named Joe Torre. While that card is in outstanding condition (read: all
four corners intact, no milk stains, no bends, no creases, no obscure
collector's name written on the back, etc.) the second of two he sent
was in truly amazing shape: a 1963 Post Don "Airedale" Drysdale, a
genuine condition rarity. The card is possibly in Gem Mint condition, no
kidding! Even though I detest the Lucite slabbed tombs, I am seriously
considering getting this one professionally graded, because this is most
likely the best condition card in my entire collection and I'd lay even
money the grade includes the word "Mint" in some form.

These will be hard to match but I'll rummage around here and see what I
can find. Thanks so much!!!

Some claims came my way yesterday, and it's always a good day when
something comes around that is from before the 2.5x3.5 inch standard.

Well, CHUCK PARIS sent me a 53, a 54, and two 55s... and a 62 Postie of
Brave Carlton Willey! The last in the lot was a 1966 Richie Allen, who
apparently wasn't supposed to be playing for the Phillies, according to
a previous card owner. The team name is completely marked out in pen,
and he has a nice little "added touch," with LA on his chest.

This particular quirk of the hobby has really become an interesting
question mark with me. I never did it myself; I guess I came around
too late. Cards were totally collectibles when I got into it in the
early 80's. It makes me wonder, and maybe some of you can shed some
more light on it: did the kids change the team more often because the
player had really been traded, and they wanted to update their cards...
or because the kid just wanted everyone to play for their favorite team?

Well, thanks CHUCK. You've sent some nice ones.

I was rather dubious about starting the 72 set given that it's the
largest vintage Topps set out there. Not to mention of course all those
expletive deleted Hi's. I figured, what the heck, my grandkids could
finish it when I go to the big Baseball Card Show in the sky. But alas,
I once again underestimate this great and grand group of ours. I could
go on and on about what it has meant to me to be a member but this is
supposed to be a Thanks not a Ramble. So without further ado......

Thanks to TJ VALACAK for contributing 4 well conditioned Psychos. These
will spruce up the neighborhood when I get them in the binder that I
will be starting now that my 600 count box is over half full.

Thanks to the recently, frequently mentioned PETER MEAD for sending 5
somewhat off centered 72's. Of course it's fitting since that's what
Psychos are. Besides the centering is excellent compared to a few in
that set that have part of their neighbors on their card as well. Far
from complaining these are very much appreciated Peter, and a special
thanks for the 2 HOFers Fergie and the young Willie Stargell.

OK, I'm off to find a big binder and 44 nine pocket sheets!

Subject: Thanks and what a day at the National!

My first thanks to Mike Rich for a 66 topps # 452 for my set. When i
got home from the National his was the first letter i opened.thanks,

Next to the National. It is easy to make specific thanks concerning
packages & envelopes received in the mail because the return address
is on the envelope but i had never gotten cards from OBCers while
attending the National until today. And i quickly found out it hard to
keep track of who handed me what cards with my great OBC friends
handing both me and my husband cards left and right it seemed.I will
do my best in acknowledging but i would like to thank all OBCer's who
attended the National today who gave me cards.

Marshall West handed me a plastic box with an autographed card of
himself. The card is a great parody of that 52 topps card with the
player with all the balls stuck to his bat.Marshall's card has a
bunch of golf balls stuck to a golf club and he is in the exact pose
on his card as Zernial? is on the 52 topps card.Marshall also adds 5
great condition 62 topps for my set and 21 Series 1 Blue Star Wars
1977 cards.thanks, Linda

Since Marshall had his name on a piece of paper with the plastic box
it was easier for me to thank him.The others i received cards from i
can't identify individuals so i have to thank them collectively-Sal
Domino,Kent Goto,Ken Morganti,Kevin Martins,Josh Levine,Dave Fallen.

Thanks to the OBCer who handed me 10 1961 topps probably purchased
from Roger Neufeldt because i recognize the little yellow dot
stickers he uses on the card sleeves for pricing.

Also thanks to the OBCer who handed me the National Biscuit Co
Straight Arrow cards and the zip lock bag with 5 1957 topps, 25 1960
topps, 2 1962 topps, 2 fantastic condition 52 Bowmans,2 49 bowmans, 2
48 Bowmans and 12 You'll Die Laughing Comedy cards i very much
appreciate. All that was on the bag was my name.Let me know WHO gave
me this bag-I have to get to work on payback.thanks, Linda

Also Ken Morganiti mentioned in an e-mail i would find some OBC
friendly dealers with great prices.I have been waiting years for the
National to find these dealers with their great prices because local
card shop dealers and dealers at local shows here aren't cheap.Cheap
meaning they don't sell 50's vintage cards for $1 but are $3 $4 and
up.I found Wayne Johnsons table and i thought i had died and went to
heaven. When he found out i was an OBC member he pulled out a huge
stack of 55+ cards at $1 each for me!!!

I had finally reached the promised land brothers and sisters ,
amen!!; and Johnson was opening those gates to card heaven for me! In
the 55 card stack were 52 topps,53 topps,53 Color Bowmans,54 topps,54
Bowmans,55 topps, 56 topps!!!!
And what condition too!The cards are not thrashed beaters but a lot
of nice Vg-Ex cards. There were 6 1954 Ex conditon beauties witn no
creases in the stack,a 52 topps Del Crandell,52 topps Joe Dobson,53
topps Frank Shea,Dick Brodski Ferris Fain,Jim Pendleton and Johnny
The cards were all in individual thick top loaders and Johnson put
them in a paper bag for me.I am keeping the cards in that paper bag
and after the National is over and i am back to the humdrum existance
of the overpriced local dealers at card shows whenever i get
discouraged over the high prices of cards i can get that paper bag
and pull out the cards and relive that one moment of magic when an
OBC friendly dealer sold me great 50's cards at $1 each.Yes, my dream
of finally being able to buy 50's classics at $1 each came true.

My husband Tim didn't do badly either. He found several dealers
selling t206's for $10 to $20 each including some nice Brooklyn
Dodgers and one Hall Of Famer i don't recall the name of- Linda

Then, five years after my wife promised that I could get a real dog (she had a 4 pound Maltese when we met), she delievers a Yellow Lab pup 2 weeks before the show, and I couldn't go. So perfect timing Mike, thanks much.

MIKE RICH hits me with a SCP, 1952T #190. It's a pretty short list, so every
hit is like candy. Thanks Mike!

I generally avoid eBay stores like the plague, but did some type card searching
last week and came away with three #5s, filling in holes of classic players, if
not during their playing days:

1976-77 HRT/RES 1947 Bowman - Andy Pafko
1980 Baseball Immortals - Honus Wagner
1980 TCMA 1950 Phillies (Whiz Kids) - Curt Simmons

Say what you like, about the 70s--they produced tons of interesting oddballs!
(Full #5 list is http://obcspike.50megs.com/type.html)

Finally, a regular Yahoo Sports baseball columnist tackles the National card
show, even if he (gag) has to talk to Mr. Mint along the way.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AvQuiCkoXv3Cop9kyY0WhLo5nYcB?slug=jp-cards072806&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

At least he expresses love for an obscure Indians reliever and wraps it up this

"Big Loot can take his Felix Hernandez cards. And Mr. Mint can take his
million-dollar collection. They represent the new and the old. It's funny that
the generation that collected cards from the middle of the boom is the one that
went bust. Oh, well.

I'll take Rich Yett, whose card, according to Beckett is worth 5 cents. Cards
like that, ones that are practically valueless, are called common. To me, it's
anything but."

topps)Zernial and a few 55 topps and bowmans from his dups box.

I have to make a special thanks to dealer Kurt Tourdot who sent over a
OBC condition box to the dinner group with many fine 60's cards for all
members attending.

Also thanks to dealer Ken Savage who payed the tab for dinner for the
revelers of the cardboard.

And my last thanks, but certainly not my least go to my husband Tim,
for buying one of my most wanted cards for me at the National-a 1950's
topps Television & Radio Stars of NBC # 16- Audrey Meadows -who with
Jackie Gleason was on my favorite TV show of all time especially for
native New Yorkers- The Honeymooners- thanks , Linda

This has been an interesting week for acquisitions. The Original
Tipton, the Guru sent me some cards of pictures that may be older than
he is; Dinosaur cards.
Joe Duffy checks in with a pair of Fleer Baksteball stars. Getting
real close on some of early Fleer BSKB sets.
Ed Schott gets Fresh, I mean Fresca cap of the 66 Packers from the
National set. Took me a while to determine if this was from the
packers set or the National set. Tough to get Fresca issues.
Neal Thomas sends along a pair of 63 Topps for my buddy's list.
I will try and post a ramble of some other pick-ups from local shows
that certainly lessened my missing the National.
Thanks gents.

That's right! Larry Tipton, the original wikipedia superstar himself sends
along the very last envelope ever received at my Jenifer St address. Larry
says hello with a 51 Bowman SCP. Thanks Larry!

Now the move is over, I'll hopefully have a bit more room/time for cards.

Thanks Guru!

In an earlier thankyou post i posted a thankyou to an OBCer who gave me
a zip lock bag with some great cards.I had forgotten who is was or he
handed the bag to Tim who didn't know him at the time.
Thankfully he e-mailed me and identified himself and i would like to
give a proper thankyou now to Dave Fallen- in that bag he gave me were
many National Biscuit cards i had never seen before and i really
appreciate those and the other cards in that bag that hit some of my
sets.In that bag were 2 1948 Bowmans and those little black and white
cards are very hard to find, thanks a lot Dave, Linda.

I finally found my way home from Washington Island, Wisconsin and a
week of great salmon fishing. The scenery is beautiful and the
fishing was unbelievable. Although we did not catch the tournament
winner, we definitely landed a few fish that will return some
money. I would have to say that one of the great aspects of
returning home from vacation was finding a number of envelopes
waiting for me from OBC members. What a great group this is and I
am happy and proud to be a part of it. A big thanks to the

DAN ANGLAND for a trio of uv hall of famers

CHEF ANTHONY ARBEENY for three hits to my 78 set including Rich
Gossage, and a pairof uv's.

LINDA FITAK sent an envelope addressed to "T.J. Vrechek", which
ended up at George's house. Since I have had the pleasure to meet
and talk with George, I will accept this as a compliment. George
forwarded the envelope my way. So thank you also to GEORGE VRECHEK
for the assist. In Linda's envelope, she hits my new 50's project
with a 56 ROnJackson. She also includes a 54 Bowman Sammy White of
the Red Sox. I guess I will have to start on the Bowman's as well.
Linda includes a 58 Vic Wertz and a 61 Lindy McDaniel. She also
includes an origin of baseball card and a treasure planet card.

JEFF DELOTT sends a 58 Don Landrum my way.

LARRY TIPTON sends a pair of HOFers my way. A 68 Fergie Jenkins,
and a 67 Luis Aparicio.

BRIAN BETZA hits my 66 set with a Ron Herbel, and hits my 50's sox
project with a 54 Fred Marsh.

Thanks again to everyone and be safe.

BlankFirst- let me thank LARRY TIPTON for 5 hits to my '68 wantlist. Thanks
so much LARRY!

THE NATIONAL- It was a whirlwind of time, but I totally enjoyed the card
show. I could not get enough of it. Having not gone to any shows in years,
I was surprised to see such a big shift to "slabbed" material.

> On Wednesday night, I was late to the "free" autograph table (actually I

Embarrassed, I went to the other table that said "John Capelletti". Again
tossing my Capelletti card down, the signer at that table said that
Capelletti had already left. Here we go again. I said, "Who the heck are
you?" He said, "Roman Gabriel".
Thank goodness no one replaced Wendel Tyler at his signing table. He was
just simply gone.

Thanks especially to Sal and for tracking me down and keeping me posted.
And my apologies to all for my early departure (but I am now starting a plan
for Cleveland).
