Hello All, I was able to get out of the hole with a lot of collectors over "Spring Break" but getting back to the grindstone has slowed my ability to get large volumes of cardboard out the door. That however has not stopped the generosity from our members coming into Southeastern Michigan. I would like to thank the following: Chef Anthony Arbeeny connects again with (2) `73 Parker Brother Football cards - Mack & Pruitt and a SCP from the `73-74 Topps Basketball set of Austin Carr. Erik Greenwood digs up "pre-war" items to send my way featuring (3) Allen & Ginter Quadrupeds (Bighorn, Buffalo & Musk Ox) to start another Animal set, a couple of strip cards with a fighter pilot and a diving champ (I'll have to do some research on these) and finally a SCP from the `35 Goudey 4 in 1's picturing Reds and Cardinal players (Martin, O'Farrell, Byrd & MacFayden). Great little envelope of stuff Erik!!! Bill Malson finds some "oddball" Helmar items to ship my way. First a "nifty" beer carrying case with Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner prominently featured. Bill also included (4) crowns or bottle caps with Walter Johnson, Cool Papa Bell, Honus Wagner and Mordecai Brown. Bob Reed - the organizer of the NCAA championship pool sends the winners spoils to yours truly and makes quite an impression. Finally, Mac Wubben finds some great items to send me as a result of the NCAA victory of Florida Gators. As part of the victory spoils Mac sends (2) `50 Bowman's - Jimmy Russell & Jimmy Gumbert and a `52 Topps SCP of Bob Ramazzotti. With that, I now have all the regular Topps Niekros from 1970 to the end of his career, except, for some reason, the 1972. I just realized that several Niekros had come in nearly all at once, so thanks to all the OBCers that have really helped that along. They look really nice in my vintage Braves binder. And thanks, BOB! And thanks to JOHN SCOTT GRAY who sends along one of the most surprising cards I've ever received, OBC or otherwise. It's a 1941 Double Play card of Boston Bees John Cooney and Sibby Sisti. It's not often I get a Boston-era card, and this one is a prize in my collection! Thanks, JSG. Then today my walk to the mailbox with my 2-and-a-half year old daughter almost ended up bad. She wanted to get the mail with me. I think my excitement in going out to see if there are cards - it may be rubbing off on her. So I walked with her out to the road, held her up to open the mailbox, and she got out an envelope. No bills today, good. And this envelope is one that has that look - you all know what I mean, you know it has cards in it. She wanted to carry it back in, and when we got inside, she hopped down and didn't want to let go. When I finally "wrangled" them from her, I was thinking we may have bent the cards... but we didn't. So... thanks to the new guy, RUSSELL McBRIDE, for five hits to my 1960 Topps set, including Carl Willey for my Milwaukee Braves binder. And thanks for a fun trip to the mailbox. There's a TriStar pack as well, which I pop open but don't find the T206

Hi all, a very exciting week indeed.

Todd Knowles starts the assault with a 5 hitter including 2 highs from 70 and 3 1972's including the lefty Carlton and the captain himself Munson. A card that eluded me on ebay in which Todd has filled the longing. Real nice Todd!

Mattman the hit man Heilenman has graced me as well. 37 hits in all. 23 for the shrinking 77 set. And eight great 69's including a couple of Orioles, Belanger and Davy Johnson. Big Frank Howard closes it out. Tosses in four 79's and an 80 and a 70.
Thanks for the note Matt.

Ken Morganti helps me kill an all OBC set as well!

Amazing guys, Thanks.

OBCers --

Peter Mead was kind enough to send Mr. Stan Hack across the expanse of the
Atlantic Ocean to settle into his new home next door to Stonehenge! Hack is
accompanied by Bob Klinger on a 1941 Double Play card. This gem comes
courtesy of a Memphis over Bradley NCAA game, which frankly I would have
rather seen Bradley win. My Grandmother worked at the Student Union for
years at Bradley, while Grandpa worked over at Caterpillar. As young kids,
we loved going to Bradley and running around the campus. As we got older,
we liked to pretend that we were a bit older and the pretty girls were
actually eyeing us up! When my Grandma retired, they named the cafeteria
after her. They are both gone now, but great memories thanks to Peter and
Stan - thanks, my friend!

Subject: A whole weeks worth of THANKS!!!!

Hello All,

Plenty of incoming packages this week and simply not enough time in the day to stop and acknowledge these fine traders so I'm taking that time to do so today. Thanks to:

Our Fearless Leader Dan Austin spies down my list and forwards some Football, Hockey and "oddball" issues for my collection. In the eclectic mix were (2) `74-75 Hockey (Low & Kryskow), (3) `76-77 Topps Hockey (Wolfe, Pyatt & Mehan), a `66 Topps Football card of Steve Delong, a `57 Topps Football card of Lions end Dave Middleton, a `60 Land of Lakes Braves card of Del Crandell, a `64 Kahn's Wieners card of Jim Pagliaroni, a Dr. Jim Beckett card for my dart board and a Diamond Star reprint card. Nice grouping Dan!!!

Good old Linda Fitak graces my doorstep with the first offering in a few years. As always Linda's packages are a plethora of cardboard delights and she continues the tradition with Star Trek, Simpsons, Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, Kobe, Shaq, Retro Cards of Jackie Robinson & Bench, a Canseco and Gwynn card, a World Greatest Card Search pack but no Wagner card inside, a Pete Rose autograph card and a `66 Hi number Rookie stars card and from my TOP 10 List a `62 Topps Russ Nixon card - GREAT STUFF LINDA!!!!

Ken Goetsch takes his time and delights me with an NCAA winners spoils addition to my collection, a `69 Topps Football 4 in 1 featuring Hoak, Gabriel, Williams and Sharockman. This is the 10th victory package I have received so once again Thanks to Bob Reed for putting on this tourney and all the fun packages I have received. Thanks for continuing the tournament fun into May Ken!!!

Ken Goetsch finds yet more material for my collection and sends another envelope as he gets me started on the `70 Topps Football poster set with Bobby Bell, Deacon Jones, Johnny Robinson and David Lee. Thanks for the great "kickoff" Ken!!!

T.J. Valacak finds a few for me - a `69-70 Topps Hockey card of Glen Sather and (2) `72-73 Topps Hockey cards (White & Bucyk). Time to hit the dupe box again T.J. - Your the man!!!

Geno Wagner sends a `75 SSPC card of Mr. October - Riggie Jackson along with a retro card of Roberto Clemente. The Jackson card is the first hit in a newly posted set I am working on. Thanks for thinking of me Geno!!!

What a great week in card collecting here in Southeastern Michigan. Thanks to these and all the fine collectors in our group. This weekend will be spent with my Wife & my Mother so returns will take a back seat, hope those of you that are fortunate enough to celebrate the contributions of your Mom's with your Mom take full advantage of the weekend to do so. Happy Mothers Day!!! BE WELL!!!

Subject: NCAA Tournament Victory Spoils still coming in!!!

Hi All,

T.J. VALACAK and RAY LUURS connect big time with my want list and are very generous sending items to commemorate the Florida Gators victory this year. The hits keep coming allowing me to continue celebrating the NCAA tourney well into May.

Ray sends out a half dozen `68 Atlantic Oil cards with Alvis, Kaline, Maloney, Pappas, B. Roby and Santo. This takes a large bite out of a want list that rarely sees any action - I'm impressed Ray, Thanks a ton!!!

T.J. finds Ice Hockey cards to add to my collection with `73-74 Topps cards featuring Scoring leaders Phil Esposito and Bobby Clarke, Gerry Hart, Semi-Finals Series and Stanley Cup Finals, a couple of `74-75 Ken hodge and Ken Dryden and a SCP UV card that looks like a `54 Topps card but it's not (Pete Harnisch). Thanks for the great stuff T.J.

I have enjoyed 12 different packages from the guys in the NCAA pool so far and each one of them have been extra special. Thanks Ray and T.J. for your kindness. BE WELL!!!

A pair of suprises this week--

TJ Valacak sends a short stack of 1978-79 Topps hockey cards. Great stuff--included was a team card of the Buffalo Sabres--different generation but still my team.

Gersh goes north of the border to find a few gems off my only OPC posted list--1970. Included was a card of one of Kentucky's Senators.

Yes, I certainly did get it, and it's a beaut! I have a few nice ones
from your want list I'll send along in return. There's something about a
1930's card in Fair/Good condition which is really special, like there
was a kid somewhere along the line that really loved that card. As I
said, I don't have too many HOF'ers among the 33 Goudeys so this is even
more special.

I'll copy the Thanks email server to let everybody know how much this is

(Bama says the reason the card is not in the best of shape is that it
must have been to a couple of Sigma Nu parties - a reference to my
national executive leadership in Phi Kappa Sigma, which has taken up
most of my time and concern over the past three or four months, trying
to convince college-age boys not to do the one or two things they joined
a fraternity in order to be able to do.)

Very sorry to hear of your mom's illness. I'll think a few good thoughts
and I have a feeling everything will turn out OK.

You da man!

Thanks to ANDY, BOB and KENT!

ANDY COOK never ceases to amaze, with a package including a 1960 and
two 55's one of which was Johnny Podres, who according to a previous
card owner, didn't belong on the Dodgers any more, but the Tigers.
Then they changed their mind again and "traded" him to the Royals...
Hey it's neat how many trades, real and fictional, were inscribed
with pen or pencil onto the fronts of these cards throughout the
years. How wonderful. Thanks again, Andy!

BOB D'ANGELO sends along two very recent unmentionables for a set on
my UV list. Thanks for the shinies, Bob.

And the cards from KENT MONTGOMERY keep coming in! Two packages, one
for my BELL* project and one for me! Sweet. Kent's sendouts include
a 58 Red Sox team card, a dozen 59s including a couple Bravos, seven
60's, four 63's, two 64's, six 65's, a Topps game, two deckles, and
three posters! Impressive. Thanks and thanks again, Kent.

* - the BELL PROJECT is an accumulation of all possible cards of any
player with the last name BELL for a young man in my church. He
turns 11 in August, and I've been putting together a whole binder as
a surprise gift for him, mostly because he's shown a lot of interest
in collecting recently. And it's okay if I get dupes, because he's
got two little brothers and a little sister who also seem to want
cards when he gets to go home with some. So anyone who can send
some - that would be great. I will do my best to pay anyone back
that I can...

Anyway, thanks to Andy, Bob, and Kent, and thanks to OBC.

First, I will give a thanks to the person or happening that allowed me
to receive mail from the servers tonight. I hadn't received anything
since the 5th from the Thanks or Ramblings severs but when I logged on
tonight, determined to remain in front of the computer screen until I
solved the problem, mail started pouring in from the 18th to the
present. It's not from all the way back to the 5th but as long as it
continues I'm not gonna complain.

Awhile back I got an offering from Geno Wagner that I tried to
acknowledge but may have not been successful. Geno sent the great Monte
Irvin on a 54 Topps card and added an Action Packed Clemente from some
later year, probably because he ran out of APBA cards. Thanks Geno!!

Last week I got my yearly birthday greeting from Mark Talbot which
included a birthday card with a very nice note, a 2005 autographed, Mark
Talbot -- OBC card, and 6 1977 Kelloggs Xographs, (3D) cards, Tanana,
McBride, Randy Jones, Figueroa, The 'Count' Montefusco and Bill Madlock.
Thanks Mark, I am further and further in your debt.

Bill Malson once again shot a hole through a list of mine with a '59 Don
Drysdale. Wow! Thanks Bill!

A Gersh Original came on the same day. A '55 Topps, Reno Bertoia with a
small, odd shaped hole through the middle of it. Gersh doesn't know why
he put the hole in the card 51 years ago but I do. So I can see the card
on the next page when I put it in my binder. Duhh. Thanks Gersh!

When MARK TALBOT listed some waiver items several days ago, I was
anything but bashful in the list of needs I sent him. In reality, I was
hoping to knock one or two cards off my WL. Well, today a nice fat puffy
came from Mark containing over twenty beauties. Mixed with 19 Kelloggs
issues (including several from the next to impossible impossible 1971
set), Mark snuck two 1949 Bowmans and the treasured autographed version
of his OBC card. Wow! It's been quite a while since I received a puffy
like that. Thanks Mark!

Well I Ken!!! KEN MORGANTI sends an awesome group ..with 4 64's
including semi-high #500 Camilo Pascual and a beautiful 53 Topps
Pirate Paul La Palme!!!!! Terrific cards Ken!!

It topped off a great baseball day... perfect weather... fresh cut
grass and a 7-year old baseball game! My son was given the dreaded
center field assignment this game (which for 7-year olds tends to be a
sleepfest since few hitters can come close to hitting it that far) and
in the first inning one of the opposing batters hit a shot to his
left.... as Dad cringed he took 2 quick steps to his left and calmly
put up his glove to grab the ball for out #1!! What fun!!

I/we need to come up with a different terms than This Week In Thanks

Bama sends along a long promised WWII COMPLETE SET of the 1944 New
York Yankees stamp set. These have been mounted oncardboard (or has
the paper petrified?). Stamps look FANTASTIC, with some great names
like Bill Dickey, Frank Crosetti, etc. WOW!
Ken Morganti who seems to be doing another of his mass mailings,
allows me to claim a 1949 Bowman, plus 3 1950 Bowman, including a low
number Dom DiMaggio, PLUS 3 more 1950 Bowman WITHOUT the copyright
variations (the tough version)I need. the 4 hits to the main list
drops my Bowman BB quest to an even 100. Another WOW!
Ant (I am pretty sure it was Ant) sends along 5 upgrades, highlited
by 3 1970-71 Topps Basketball. Much of my set was damaged from
putting them into a photo album. When I took them out, some of the
backs stayed glued to the page from the albums adhesive. Rare
upgrade to that set.
MArshall West concludes a dealer scum offering I hope he was pleased
with, and sent some UV hits to protect the check. This included 2/3
of the 2002 King B FB set. Combined with the 2 I already had, I am
down to 6 to finish the set.
Thanks for a great week of cards.

Subject: Ebay bonuses

Hi gang,
I have two arrivals to report - one of which is recent and one that I've
probably neglected to report, but will again just to be safe. Both envelopes
arrived as a result of eBay. About a month ago, I sold off a bunch of my T205
dupes (in OBC condition, so it's no surprise that a couple OBC'ers ended up as
the high bidders). One of the high bidders happened to be Andy Cook, who
included a 1967 Topps Football checklist along with his prompt payment. It's a great
way to insure positive feedback if you ask me ;-) THANKS ANDY!!
The other delivery is an indirect result of T205's on eBay, only in this
case, I was the buyer. Shawn Adkins was the seller - the card I bought was for
the last spot in my binder, the somewhat notable Denton Young (although most
people refer to him as 'Cy'). This takes out one of the last reprint cards I've
been slowly replacing, leaving just Joss, Hoblitzell(no stats) and Wallace(no
cap, one line of 1910 stats) and one empty spot - the Moran with stray line
of type doesn't have a reprint. Of course, my insane quest to complete the set
with all Polar Bear backs will never end, but it's SOOO cool to have a T205
binder without a lot of empty spots and reprints in it. Shawn also included a
Harry Lord card from the T207 set. It's a tempting start to another set, but I'm
still sticking with the gold borders. THANKS SHAWN!! Hope everyone has a safe
and happy holiday weekend and don't forget why we're celebrating. TAYL,

Ken M

Ken Morganti who clobbers my list via his recent "tour of the Americas". This mega puffy included (7) `47-`66 Exhibits neatly and appropriately rubber banded together - Campanella, Dropo, Goodman, Kell, Lemon, Maglie & Wright; (9) `59 Fleer Ted Williams cards; (23) assorted Kellogg's cards with Garvey, Brock, Kaline, Cobb & Ruth to name a few; a SCP from the `63 Topps set - the card featuring the 40 - 120 Mets team - I am very close to 400 cards left for my Topps run thanks to this addition. Ken closes out the deal with an autographed pic of the "Cardclctor" himself bringing my signed collection of OBC-PTC cards to (9) total. Your generocity is overwhelming Ken - Thanks so much!!!

Ed Schott finds (8) `63 Topps cards from the "Rittenberg Collection" to forward to me so that I can send them off to another trading friend. So I will take care of them here in SE Michigan as they await transport to the Great State of Texas. Thanks for helping my friend Ed!!!

this weekend brought in a flat from ANDY COOK, who's old PO Box addy looks
to have changed. Andy sends a trio of kellogg hits including a 73 al kaline.
tnx andy!

Spent the holiday around Detroit, and got to take in a game at Comerica.
The FOOT members have been underselling this place -- it was absolutely
beautiful ! Would have a hard time saying it didn't rival my beloved Wrigley.

To add to it, Saturday night at the park was perfect weather, and there was
a great fireworks show after. Only downsides I saw -- $8 beers (if you can
down a 24 oz. can with no problem, I guess it's a bargin), and getting out of
the parking lots was a bit slow.

A great time at an underappreciated park!

Thanks to DOUG DeJONG for a TCP of Waiver Wire claims
for my 1965 Topps set-in-progress, including a couple
that go in the last few pages of the binder.

Thnaks also to ANDY COOK for a TCP that won't be
staying here. His recent Waiver Wire netted three
cards for my 9-year old collector buddy Cameron from
the 1965 Topps Embossed set. I'll get those over to
Cameron's place in a few days or so.

Take care,

Subject: end of May thanks x6

Thanks to MARSHALL, ANDY, KEN, ED, T.J. and DOUG!

MARSHALL WEST sends his very own mug on a signed card, and six cards
for the BELL collection. Thanks, Marshall!

ANDY COOK sends a couple of 61s, a 69 Deckle Santo, and a card I
claimed by mistake. I was looking for a 78 Topps #380, and indeed got
that, but it was from some other sport where the ball is brown and
isn't round. Thanks, Andy!

KEN MORGANTI also sends a signed likeness of himself, along with
fourteen hits to my almost finished set from the year (1980 plus 2).
He also sends along three additions to the BELL collection. This is
coming along quite nicely. Thanks, Ken!

This one's an exciting story, I think. ED McADAMS is not a member of
OBC, but he came across my OBC wantlist page and sent me a nice big
stack of vintage Braves, along with a lot of UV material I have on my
list, and some UV Braves stuff for the kids at the church, totaling
around 300 cards. He took some vingage and UV dupes off my hands in
exchange, although I wouldn't call it a trade. I'd definitely call it
charity from a long-time Braves fan and collector (ED) to a relatively
new Braves fan (me). He was excited to help out, and really thinks OBC
has a great philosophy. ... so anyway, if you think about it - without
OBC, that connection would never have happened. THANKS ED, and THANKS
OBC, for getting my list out into cyberspace!!!

And last but certainly not least, this makes five thanks posts in a row
for DOUG DEJONG, unless someone else posts while I'm writing. He's
apparently been working overtime, and sent me a 57, three 65s, two
66's, and a 69. Including a Lee Maye Braves card for the Milwaukee
binder. Thanks Doug!

Thanks again to all 6 of you and to OBC. To quote my hero, Lt. Col.
Henry Blake, "Mucho appreciado."

Subject: oooooooops. Thanks again, T.J.

Hi. I posted a few minutes ago, but forgot to include one super-
great package received today. T.J. Valacak continues a "high-speed
connection" with my mailbox, and "downloaded" another super stack of
cards. Let's see...

A 1961 Dave Wickersham who was traded by ball-point pen from the KC
A's to the Tigers.

Three 1964s, including a Ryne Duren whose team was ink-corrected from
Phillies to Senators. This phenomenon continues to astound me - well
maybe not quite astound, but it really does make me chuckle a little
bit every time. Perhaps someone could work on an all-ink-trades set
of some sort.

Three 1965s, including a post-Braves Del Crandall, who was really
traded to the Giants. Nice to have a card that shows his complete
Braves stats on the back.

Then six 1970s, including Jim Bunning... who for some reason was
voted one of the five worst senators ever by Time Magazine. I bet he
had a better fastball than they did. Also in the 70s was a Ron Santo
all-star, and a couple great Braves cards: Felix Millan all-star and
the team card. I really have a thing for team cards, and maybe I'll
put more about that on the ramblings server sometime.

Okay, back to the stack. Over ten percent of an O-Pee-Chee set whose
year shall remain unstated, but which is black bordered on the top
and white bordered on the bottom, and whose reverse is a shade of
pink that vaguely reminds me of cherry tums or something. Beautiful,
those O-Pee-Chee backs were. I tell ya.

And two more for the ever-popular BELL collection, Buddy and George.

Thanks, T.J. Your generosity, and that of so many others in this
group, is something I hope to never get used to.
